Nairaland / General / Bagging Full Scholarships Abroad by ODGNigeria: 2:21pm On Nov 03, 2019
Hi,
My name is Dayo Oladipo, a Nigerian in the diaspora. I'm a recipient of the Belt and Road Master Fellowship programme at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences.

Exactly this time two years ago, I dedicated my time to seeking for scholarship opportunities abroad and I ended up getting full scholarship offers from different institutions around the world.

I've been trying to show people how they can do the same, but unfortunately, I'm strapped for time. I'd love to use this platform to discuss how I did it, and would also invite scholars from time to time so that they can share their experiences. We've been running a WhatsApp platform where we guide people on how to secure scholarships for over a year now, but unfortunately, it got filled up on day 2. Now we're on Telegram.

You can join using this Telegram link: https:///scholarsarena (Or simply search for Scholars' Arena on Telegram).

Recently, with some of my friends, I wrote a free guide (sorry, two actually) on how to get scholarships abroad China edition). We'll be releasing other guides free of charge as time goes on. Feel free to share with your friends.

Guide 1: Bagging Scholarships in China https://drive.google.com/open?id=1XV_HLW0jJR8IbScUu31Qr6SqC_5FcQAL

Guide 2: Applying to UCAS https://drive.google.com/open?id=1SRuxvmsKaTeDXV7qb5W4NqidA2hdedxj

Please endeavour to read the guide so that you can get most of your questions answered. I'll be reluctant to answer something I already spent hours explaining on a piece of paper. But if you have any questions, please feel free to reply under this thread. And if you'd like to enlighten Nigerians about your experience, abeg feel free to talk about your own scholarship story too.

Thank you and welcome.

Sincerely yours,
Oladipo Dayo George.

very much needed. both foreign affairs authentication and embassy authentication is needed for that single document

AUTHENTICATION AT THE MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS IS NOT NEEDED. Only police report will do. I'm now in Beijing and I know so many people who didn't use it.

please dear, as you visited the embassy of recent, do you know whether police character certificate is still needed for the visa application. You could do well by listing all the documents required. Thanks as I await your speedy response

Yes, it is. Very needed. Although there is no need for attestation at the ministry of foreign affairs in Abuja (I wasted money on that part).

I just called that foolish Lagos consulate now and this is what the girl just narrated

You will have to provide the statement of account of sponsor
He said with the Chinese government scholarship, you still need to provide it in as much they are not paying for flight and visa

He said, what has the person in question been doing since he graduated. If he or she has been sitting at home, he or she must provide the evidence of sponsorship to show that you are capable of paying your flight. Or are you picking the money from the street?

He then said if the person in question is working and he is going to pay for his flight, he or she should provide his or her statement of account that will cover flight and visa fee......

This is the number I called

+23412715350

That doesn't make her foolish, bro. She was just doing her job. It's true we understand the situation of things a bit more than they do, but she's just another lady behind the phone, feeding you with every information that his agreed upon at the consulate.

do they expect you want to fly to China before. Nawa o. They should be interested seeing you are capable of transporting yourself to chins

I called the lady again today, she said, "if 'FULL SCHOLARSHIP' is not ticked on your JW202 form, you're goino bring a statement."

In my case, my form doesn't have that, it only has "scholarship", although it is full (Belt and Road). And monthly stipend is 4k RMB.

Reminds me of a man whose cash was stolen after leaving the bank. He simply returned to the bank, went straight to the cashier and gave her a dirty slap saying: "where is my money", while the chaos was on going over the slap and the branch manager was trying to understand the matter behind the slap a call came through via the cashiers phone, as oga branch manager picked the call a male voice from the other end of the phone said: "nne we don collect the moni"...rest was history

No! You can get it done here in Lagos for 7k within 2 hours and better with a good bargaining power!

I did mine at 4k. You can get yours too at that price.

Also, instead of travelling all the way to Abuja, you can apply for your documents to be transferred from Alagbon to the ministry. I did mine for 6k.

Thanks. Do you think I should book the flight now or wait to do the visa things first? Because the jw202 and admission letter may arrive late when the flights start going up. I went to wakanow ph but they advised I do the visa first. What do you think? I know the documents will come, I know I will travel to China, so no question of if I don't go again.

Another thing.. Is 250k lagos to beijing cheap? I've not been to China before. Thanks

1. First, book as early as possible.
2. Plan to leave on weekdays (Monday-Thursday).
3. Use incognito browser.
You can also mail them ahead for more discounts
If you don't use incognito mode, you'll most likely get a high price, most especially if you search for flights frequently.
Flight booking websites use your cookies to give you prices. Without any cookie information to access, they offer their lowest.

Can anyone who actually went to the embassy last week tell us what they met there?

y repeating same question when answers have been provided. It is frustrating for people to repeat same answers so u can't expect people to comment what they have said before. The problem is people have answered but most of u just don't want to read the previous utterances and comments in this thread.

police clearance certificate is not needed. You don't need to notarize from ministry of foreign affairs. I said use court.

Just use the documents u used for processing admission and scholarship and check the website for instruction and download the entry visa u need. Also check my previous comments and comments of other people.

When u get to China, hope u know u will still process another study visa. You also need to collect documents from your school JW201(for those who who got full scholarship from CSC) or JW202 visa sheet (for self study or partial scholarship/ province scholarship) and admission letter from your school before you can process entry visa from Nigeria.

I think you guys should just google and read. I am not even in China but Google provided answers.

Aiit boss.

Thanks. I'm going on JW202 tho. And I got a full scholarship (Belt and Road)

You mean both?

or just police clearance cert. I have already notarized my docs with a notary public.

since u are on scholarship, u dont need statement of account. Your academic records should also include your secondary school testimonial and waec/neco. The court certification is enough. Dont waste your money. Just use same documents u used when processing admission/scholarship.

You will need to do another medical record/certificate when u get to China. Some schools dont accept Nigeria medical. So b alert.

GOOD LUCK

Bros, please what about police clearance certificate? Is it needed?

Also, do I have to notarize any docs at the ministry of foreign affairs?

[img][/img]After giving yourself the courage to check your JAMB scores, you see that things aren’t going to change so much, you get the message that you have to wait for another year and write again. That’s not even the main problem, but who knows whether you’re going to pass next year’s JAMB, or whether or not you’re going to gain admission if you do. Well, this is the fear of every admission seeker whose dad is not a vice chancellor. My main purpose of writing this to you is to make you understand that you might have come short in your UTME examination, but you haven’t failed admission wise. You can still catch up.

Why am I making these bold claims? How do I know this? I know this because I was in your shoes and I was able to succeed in my quest to gain admission even after I failed JAMB UTME examination.

This claim sounds too good to be true most especially for those who do not know about IJMB.

Well, you think you’ve failed and you already have your mind made up. This is a painful situation, I have been there. But one thing I’m going to tell you is that you should read this piece before you lose hope.

What if I told you all hope is not lost? Well, you most probably wouldn’t believe. I was skeptical too. To me, it was unthinkable to believe that I could gain admission even after I have failed UTME. I didn’t gain admission into 100 level, I gained into 200!

IJMB is an A’level programme which allows you to gain admission into 200 level in a Nigerian University.

Before you lose hope, here are the things I want you to know.

Jamb is not the only means of gaining admission into Nigerian universities.
Well, you may be hearing this for the first time, or you also know that you can gain admission through DIRECT ENTRY after you must have finished polytechnic or earned your NCE certificate from a college of education.

Most people know this, but we are ignorant about A’levels (examinations that enable us to gain admission after completion).

With A’levels, you easily gain admission into 200 level into a Nigerian university after you must have passed and met your course requirements.

UTME admission is highly competitive.
The numbers don’t lie; well over 1.6 million people write jamb every year and try to scramble their way into the limited spaces in various Nigerian universities. This competition is very fierce, most especially when you compare it to the 15,000 students who seek to gain admission yearly through direct entry (IJMB, JUPEB, ND, HND etc.) into various institutions in the country.

You can start with a deficiency in O’levels.
Don’t let your O’level deficiency stop you (it almost stopped me!). A deficiency in O’level will not help your university admission process but would definitely not stop you from doing O’levels.

You can simultaneously tackle your deficiencies during you’re A’level programme. So when the results come out, you’re ready to walk into 200 level with all your requirements intact.

With this information, I gained admission at the first shot and graduated 3 years afterwards. Don’t let your ignorance stop you, it almost stopped me.

I hope you make the right choice.

Sincerely yours,

Dayo.

Any helpful information would help.
