If Nigeria's power, fuel and transportation issues could be sorted out, I see no reason why the SW couldn't follow in the path of Bangalore in providing international IT services: after all, we have the English language skills, and lots of highly educated young people like the founder of Nairaland himself (and then there are the huge numbers of Yoruba people in the US and the UK working in IT). Imagine being able to earn a living as a software developer for western multinationals while living in Abeokuta, Ibadan or Akure!

Unfortunately, the Nigerian economy has never behaved like your typical economy elsewhere.
The country is still suffering from the 1983 example which is exactly the same thing sanusi is prescribing.
A president is concerned with the economic as well as the social repercussions of his actions. He cannot afford to govern by economic theory.
Any free fall will result in demands for wage increases, strikes, increasing poverty, hoarding etc as prices spiral in response to the free fall.
A loss of value in the currency of other countries leads to an increase in exports as their goods become cheaper. In Nigeria, it leads to hardship.
Iweala bastardised the country's economy by increasing it's appetite for foreign goods. She went as far as even granting import duty waivers for foreign goods which can be manufactered in Nigeria and are actually manufactured in Nigeria.
We have nothing to lose. The so called investors( speculators) are the types Nigeria does not need and cannot afford. They are parasites who add no value to the economy.
All imports and luxury good apart from some food should be subjected to heavy duty.

If you want to ride out a drought, you have to be ready to shed the fat.
A MORE IMPORTANT QUESTION
What economic activity do all the private jet owners engage in to afford the luxury?

Every single one of those country has unique geographical, demographical,historical or cultural selling point.
Switzerland and Luxembourg are simply extentions of Germany,France. They enjoy and share in the goodwill of their parent countries in much the same way the Anglo countries US,Canada,Australia,United Kingdom and new Zealand share their success and economic bounty.
Those countries can be regarded as manaco with presidents.
Botswana is blessed with ridiculous numbers and variety of wildlife. That is before you consider her proximity to south Africa which she has been able to leverage as a laid back sanctuary for people who want to escape the bustle of south Africa

I'm with Fashola on this one. My only grouse is the THE SW will pick up the largest tab.The refusal to pay taxes elsewhere is the reason why almost every other aspect of Nigerian life is taxed.

The earlier they went back to their shops, the better for them.

A struggle for independence is for serious well groomed people with clout, brains,wisdom and a proper education.
The charade can be perceived from a mile away.
At this point, the international community will not tolerate any crisis that will lead to the destabilisation of the West African sub region. Not with their hands full with Iraq, Afghanistan, Syria,Somalia, Libya and the Sanai peninsula.
They would rather give arms and shut down any such attempt.

Growing up, Lagos was mainly full of professionals. Mostly made up of private sector workers and the few federal workers. Also around were the blue collars workers who serviced the economy.
These people also voted that way as well.
In fact, the poorest people you saw around were the fresh graduates and Ghanaian teachers who were looking to climb up the ladders.
Now, as a result of mass migration of the unskilled and people who do not share in our values, the election was about the good, the bad and the ugly rather than being about the good, the better and the best.
