PoliticsRe: Abians Come And Let Us Discuss The Welfare Of Our State by odumchi(op): 5:13pm On Aug 06, 2012
Super1759: My people. Lets not just beat around the bush. Abia has been on bondage since 8 to 12 years now. The only way out is getting T.A orji out of that seat, else abia still have 3 more years of backwardness..very sad indeed
This is an excellent idea, but it will be extremely difficult. Orji has a network of corrupt politicians around him who will stop at nothing to keep him in his seat (as long as they receive their usual share of Abia's money).

Situations like this are very disheartening. For the most part, Orji is governor in name only. Abia is a rich state but yet: teachers' salaries are still withheld, roads are unpaved, and the pension of civil servants (most of whom have no other source of income) are delayed.

How do we go about impeachment?

Kenyaphilia: Well I have seen people like that too...although the majority I meet have completely lost their accents..I mean they speak totally like Americans but the went their 5 or 6 years when they were in late teens or early 20s...one told me that they had to develop the accent to be understood.
I know what you mean. It's very frustrating to have people say that they can't understand you because of how you speak. However, I will never lose my original accent.

I do find a Nigerian's fake American accent funny, though. It's hilarious when someone from Naija says, "Yeah man. Wazzup man."

Obiagu1: I feel that to improve Igbo language more, it needs to be more centralized while we incorporate various dialects into it.
We only need to bring in adjectives, nouns and distinct verbs from various dialects to broaden the vocabulary like it is in English while we maintain a central structure and verbs should be standardized eliminating spelling differences like ejo/ezo, bụ/wụ, si/shi (said). Other spelling differences should be standardized too like ife/ihe, gini/kini, unu/ịnyị, mmiri/mmili etc.

Ex. One could say:
Aga m echiya azụ ọsịsọ maka mmiri na-ezo.
Aga m echiya azụ ngwa-ngwa maka mmiri na-ezo.
Aga m echiya azụ eze-eze maka mmiri na-ezo.

Ọ bụ gịnị ka ị na-eme ugbua?
Ọ bụ gịnị ka ị na-eme kita?
Ọ bụ gịnị ka ị na-eme mgben?

A similar example in English is:
I think he is going mad.
I think he is going crazy.
I think he is going insane.

Ndị be anyị, kee ife iche?
Obiagu, ihe a dikwa nma kama bia lee ya aga m za vu ya. Anyinde ekwesighi irughari Igbo ka o di ka English. Aga Igbo di wu nma ya. Ndaa asusu odo di n'elu uwa mara nma ka Igbo?

Onyenye suwa olu mba ya. Ihe m na eze wu ka e gbeni igbuisigba olumba dum di na ali Igbo.

I've been living in the US for some time now and I've developed two accents for myself: a Nigerian, and an American.

In school I use my "American accent" (which isn't all too American since people tell me I have a slight accent) while at home (and in the company of fellow Nigerians) I use my Nigerian accent (which I can use on command). So I'd say no; I haven't lost my accent.

Mrs.Chima:
Just because you havent heard....it doesnt mean it is true or were u referring to marriage retention?

I guess that is not true either huh? Also last time I have Nigeria isnt the only country in Africa.

I did say Africa......did I nothuhhuhhuh??
I was really referring to the marital homicides. I wasn't really paying attention to the rest of Africa since Nigeria was the focus of my discussion.

I don't believe that the homicide rate of Africa dwarfs that of the West.

Mgben a bụ kịta?

@odumchi,

Anụ berọ m "aga, za, rizogba, na risakwa" mbụ, m na-achọ ka ọmara m ahụ smiley
Oke Obiagu,

'Aga' is how the Aro people say 'how'.
'Za' is how we say 'si' (to come from).
'Risa/Rita' is how we Aro say 'cheta' (to remember)
'Rizo' is how we say 'chefuo' (to forget)

In the Arochukwu dialect, 'gba' always replaces 'cha'. For example:

English - Have you finished eating?
Izugbe - Irichȧla?
Arochukwu - Irigbạla?

If you want to say "How did you (plural) do it" in Aro, you'll say:

"Ndaa aga inyi za mee ya"

In Izugbe:

"Kedu ka unu si mee ya".

Mrs.Chima:
Yes....Africa and Asia has the highest marriage retention but the HIGHEST SPOUSAL RELATED HOMICIDES. I wonder why?
How'd you come about this? Outside of films, I've never heard of a case where a spouse kills a spouse (maybe it's just me) in Nigeria.

However in the US, one is bound (almost guaranteed) to hear such at least a few times a month.

Andre Uweh: Some of us Ndigbo have different dialects that are so strong. Instead of writing our strong dialects in threads that are meant for every Igbo, then we better do it here. As someone claimed in another thread that it is rude to write in your dialect in threads meant for the entirety of Ndigbo. Chinenye who likes writing in his village dialect should feel free to do it here or in the Ngwa thread created today. Failure to do that means he should forever shut up.
