Culture / Re: Who Owns The Child Born Out Of Wedlock (unmarried Relationship) by odumchi: 5:44am On Jul 17, 2014
tonychristopher:

That is bad....a child has the right to know his father. In Igbo land its the man owns the child bride price or not Igbo land is patrilineal society and a child bears the father's name u know

Hmmm. I disagree. In Igboland (well, in my community at least), if a woman bears a child out of wedlock, the child would be seen as a descendant of its grandfather (and not the father) and would answer the grandfather's name, almost as if its biological father never existed. It's this same concept that gave birth to the old practice of fathers without male children permitting their daughters to be impregnated by a man out of wedlock, so as to take the [male] child as their own son.

Education / Re: Gregory University, Abia To Make Igbo Language A Compulsory Course by odumchi: 7:46pm On Dec 29, 2013
Serendipity: I am Igbo, but this is the apogee of rudderlessness. Igbo is a microscopic langiage and the knowledge of it is more or less useless. This is truer given that the majority of pupils that will attend that glorified secondary school varsity are Igbos who in most cases were taught the subject in high school and have thus gotten a smattering of the language.

Ahu adii gi.

The ikoro has been sounding since I woke up, they are dressing Udunkulu for his grand entrance and his dressing room is right in my compound. I have pictures and hope to make more and i'll love to share.

@doninspain, if you show up in my villa, locate me at the Eze's palace grin

If you'd like to see it on the front page, feel free to create a new thread.

I'd be surprised if their combined populations reached 100,000. You don't seem to know much about these things you're arguing.

Thank you.

Ohafia and Abiriba are now towns? In that case Umuahia must be a megalopolis. What a jokster.

Fulaman198: Google Translate now translates Igbo, Yoruba, and Hausa. I don't know how good the Igbo translations are, but the Hausa ones are terrible.

I've checked it out. The Igbo is horrible as well. It's meant for translating individual words rather than entire sentences and long phrases.

A native doctor (babalawo) isn't the same as a ritualist. Anyway, wealth is not everyone's priority in life. Traditionally, medicine men were humble people who were content to devote their lives to the service of an oracle or spirit.
