Politics / Buhari To Address Nigerians On Monday Morning by odutolasodiq(m): 7:04pm On Aug 19, 2017
President Buhari has arrived Nigeria through the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja.
Wearing a black caftan with a cap to match, the 74-year-old left the aircraft unaided and was met by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo and other senior government officials, including ministers, security chiefs and state governors.
He took a salute to the military guard of honour before he was driven in a convoy to the presidential villa. An enthusiastic crowd of supporters were at the airport and lined the roads to welcome Buhari back. He is set to address Nigerians on Monday morning, the presidency said.
The president left for the British capital on May 7 with his prolonged absence causing tensions back home, where calls have grown for him to either return or resign. Buhari, a retired general who headed a military regime in the 1980s, has been dogged by speculation about his health since June last year when he first went to London for treatment of what his aides said was a persistent ear infection. He then spent nearly two months in London in January and February and said on his return in early March that he had “never been so ill”. In July, members of the ruling party and the opposition went to see him in London and even took pictures in an attempt to douse public anxiety.
The health of Nigeria’s leaders has been a sensitive issue since the 2010 death in office of president Umaru Musa Yar’Adua after months of treatment abroad.
Buhari’s main opponents in the 2015 election that brought him to power claimed he had prostate cancer. He denied it. Since August 7, there has been a series of protests in Abuja demanding that Buhari return or quit if he is incapacitated. The rallies turned violent on Tuesday when mainly ethnic Hausa traders pelted protesters with stones, prompting them to abandon their daily vigils. Deji Adeyanju, one of the protest organisers, told AFP on Saturday he was excited at the news of Buhari’s return. “We are happy that the president is coming back today because we have been vindicated,” he said. “We organised the rallies to make him come back so that he can continue to carry out the mandate on which he was elected in 2015.” Adeyanju said a planned protest in Lagos on Monday has now been cancelled. “There is no more demonstration as the president has acceded to our demand,” he said, warning however that protesters would “maintain close vigilance” of the government and urging Buhari to tackle rising insecurity, including the Boko Haram insurgency and militancy in the Niger delta. “More importantly, the president has to end mass poverty in the land and the fight against corruption has to be given a push,” he added. Dapo Thomas, a politics lecturer at Lagos university, said Buhari’s return would boost the central government’s clout. “Every policy, every decision, every project will now have a stamp of authority and legitimacy,” he said, adding that the anti-graft campaign would also be stepped up. “Buhari’s selling point is his integrity. He is very passionate about eradicating corruption from Nigeria and I think his return will re-invigorate the campaign,” he said. Buhari has been struggling to rid Nigeria of the endemic corruption that has blighted its development and helped tip the country into recession. High-profile members of the previous government have been arrested on corruption charges, sparking accusations of a political witch hunt — claims the current administration denies.

Politics / Biafra: Nnamdi Kanu’s Nuclear Weapon And The Road To Self-destruction by odutolasodiq(m): 3:17pm On Aug 18, 2017
By kayode Ogundamisi

Sadly, it isn’t the so-called “marginalisation” that may lead to another civil war in Nigeria. It is IGNORANCE. The weapon of FEAR is being deployed across the Nigerian space.
Imaginary enemies are being created from North, South, East and West. The creators of the imaginary enemies are protected from the implosion that will emerge from misleading an IGNORANT mass.

How else can you describe the claim by IPOB’s Nnamdi Kanu and his Biafra travellers of possessing a nuclear weapon? Something that is bound to be misleading a couple of young people into untimely death, making them believe they have some spiritual capability to defeat any force in the universe.

I experienced same with the Oodua People’s Congress. When you advise the young cadres not to overestimate or rely on some charm that will turn bullets into water, they laugh you off as the ‘grammar speaking’ Secretary General, sadly several young people did not live to see if the charm worked or not.

The claim of the possession of a nuclear weapon and the manipulated photo of a Deactivated Soviet era SS-4 missile posted on Radio Biafra Facebook claimed to be an active Biafra missile may be funny to some, but it isn’t funny at all, I also laughed it off, but looking at the comment section, hundreds of young Igbo men and women believed it, some even calling for the immediate deployment of the weapon on Northern Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu and his co-travellers are treading a very dangerous path, they are experimenting with something very dangerous, but the Igbo are treading an even more dangerous path of self-destruction, they fail to learn from Northern Nigeria, the Northern political elites introduced Sharia, they defied then President Olusegun Obasanjo. All the States in the North introduced Sharia, most created private militias to enforce the law, when they were reminded Sharia was already part of the Nigerian constitution, they protested, to them it was a convenient political tool, religion was deployed for political gains, they claimed they had a right to self-determination, a right most of them later opposed when the OPC and others demanded for a Sovereign National Conference.

The move by Northern political leaders emboldened radical elements within the North, they planted the seed for Islamic militias who acted as Sharia police, that metamorphosed into hate preachers, that gave birth to Boko Haram. An then  Boko Haram appointed commissioners in Borno State, they had funding’s from state governments across the North, then the monster started consuming the people,  today Northern Nigeria is a war zone, that region can never survive the after effect of Boko Haram even if the evil group is defeated, will Ndi-Igbo learn from the North? I pray so.

The Frankenstein monster called IPOB is now claiming to have a private army, performing military drills, displaying ‘photo-shopped’ nuclear missiles, claiming to possess war weapons never imagined, yet one clash with the police the so-called Biafra Secret Police are unable to protect themselves, neither are they able to protect the innocent by standers that may be caught in the crisis in South Eastern Nigeria.

I weep for Nigeria. Newly independent Southern Sudan is exporting over a million refugees to her neighbors after independence from Sudan, will Ndi-Igbo put a leech on its Frankenstein monster? Or are they pleased they finally have a mad man who can face that imaginary enemy? War is not a tea party, those who survived Biafra 1 should know better, Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu also bragged, told his people they have all the weapons, at least Ojukwu did have some weapons, he deployed the resources of his wealthy father Sir Louis Odumegwu Ojukwu, KBE. Ojukwu deployed propaganda, his people bought it, they had a reason to, they had legitimate grievances, they had just faced a horrible pogrom, Ojukwu gave them hope, but hope will not win wars, preparation and a long-standing strategy does, when the dream failed, Ojukwu had a plan B, a plane to take him away from the war zone, he did not forget to go with his Mercedes Benz car, his immediate family and enough foreign currency to give him a comfortable life in exile, he lived in a mansion facing the sea side, his people are still traumatised till today.

He came back from exile, joined the party of the so-called enemy, he joined National Party of Nigeria a party perceived to be ‘Northern’. He died a Nigerian, buried with the green white green flag wrapped around his casket. Hundreds of wounded Biafra soldiers still litter Enugu-Anambra roads till today begging for alms to at least have one meal per day.

Today the nselfsef acclaimed Igbo messiah, a self-styled spiritual leader who claims to heal the sick, Nnamdi Kanu is going down the same path Ojukwu took, he seems to have studied Ojukwu’s mannerism and use of propaganda and exploitation of genuine grievances and Igbo’s are watching and relishing the drumbeat of war.

When the rain falls, it won’t fall on the roof of Kanu’s fathers compound in Abia State. It will fall on us all. The irony is that most of those playing the drum beats of war have dual nationality, they have their immediate families far removed from ground zero, it is the poor of North, South, East and West who will pay for the madness.

The Nigerian government are also failing in tackling the scourge, they are dismissive of Kanu, they underestimate the power of propaganda, they fail to understand that Nigeria is blessed with an Army of unemployed people, this rejected and oppressed people will fall for anything, in the absence of a responsible government any psychopath who speaks the right language will get the loyalty of millions of vulnerable people, mostly young with a lot of energy.

Nigerian government must look at the demands of all groups, engage with them, they should also increase the capacity of the security to tackle insurgency with limited violation of the rights of citizens. ALL OPTIONS MUST BE ON THE TABLE.

Politics / Gunmen Attack EFCC Headquarters In Abuja-sahara Reporters by odutolasodiq(m): 2:57pm On Aug 16, 2017
A major security breach was recorded at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in the early hours of Wednesday, August 16, 2017, as unknown gunmen attacked the office located at Wuse Zone 7, Abuja.

The group of heavily armed bandits invaded the office at about 05.00 hours and began shooting into the premises, damaging vehicles parked in the premises in the process. However, the attack was repelled by guards on duty. The hoodlums escaped in a getaway vehicle but not without leaving a message; a white envelope dropped by the fleeing attackers was found to contain a death threat addressed to Ishaku Sharu, a senior investigator with the Commission. Ishaku who heads the Foreign Exchange Malpractices Fraud Section is in charge of corruption investigation involving several politically exposed persons and retired military brass hats.

The attack on the Zone 7 office which houses the Commission’s AMCON Desk, Procurement Fraud and Foreign Exchange Malpractices Sections, is coming few weeks after another investigator, Austin Okwor was shot and wounded by unknown assailants in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

The latest incident has already been reported to the police for investigation.

Politics / Boko Haram Attacks Adamawa Community, Raze 60 Houses by odutolasodiq(m): 5:14pm On Aug 10, 2017
Many people were feared dead on Thursday in a fresh attack by Boko Haram Islamists in Ghumbili community in the Madagali Local Government Area of Adamawa.

The attack comes a few days after a similar incident in a neighbouring village in the Local Government, known as Mildu, where seven people were killed by the insurgents.
Confirming the attack, the Chairman of Madagali Local Government Council, Mr Yusuf Muhammed, said that the attack lasted from 11 p.m. on Wednesday to 3 a.m. on Thursday.

He said that the jihadists burnt no fewer than 60 houses and looted foodstuff.

“They looted foodstuff, killed livestock and burnt the village completely,” he stated.

Muhammed said that the exact number of dead and injured people had yet to be ascertained and that villagers who escaped the attack were currently taking refuge at Gulak, the headquarters of the council.

But the Spokesman of the Police Command in Adamawa, Mr Othman Abubakar, who also confirmed the attack, said that no life was lost.

He said, however, that houses were destroyed in the attack, the latest in a string of deadly blows on mainly soft targets in Nigeria’s troubled northeast.

Speaking on the development, the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency, Mr Haruna Furo, said that only one person was killed and that many houses were destroyed.

Boko Haram appears to have raised its onslaught in recent weeks in its eight-year bloody insurgency that has claimed thousands of lives.

Politics / ResumeOrResign Protest: Why We Stopped Anti-Buhari Protesters – Police by odutolasodiq(m): 5:46pm On Aug 09, 2017
The Federal Capital Territory Police Commands, Abuja have given their reasons for disembarking the “peaceful” protest of a group at Unity Fountain yesterday demanding the resumption of President Muhammadu Buhari or resignation after 90 days of absence.

While the group led by the renowned singer and activist, Charly Boy continued their ResumeOrResign Sit-Out protest yesterday, the Police forcefully halted the protest because hoodlums hijacked the demonstration. The gang leader, Charly Boy even collapsed after inhaling gas from the canister blew into the air by the Police in bid to  discontinue the protest.

Shortly after the incidence, the statement issued by Anjuguri Manzah, FCT police spokesman, contains the said reason for immediate intervention.

Read below:

“The FCT police command in the early hours of today August 8, 2017 intervened and prevented breakdown of law and order, and disturbance of public peace in the federal capital territory (FCT), Abuja by dispersing some miscreants, hoodlums and other criminal elements that have infiltrated the protest being carried out by a group of Concerned Nigerians under the auspices of Our- Mumu-Don-do Movement at Unity Fountain, Maitama, Abuja,” it said.

“Today August, 8 2017 the same group assembled at the same venue but allowed miscreants, hoodlums and other unruly individuals to infiltrate the protests, who started blocking the major roads adjoining the Unity Fountain, obstructing traffic and preventing movements of other innocent citizens from going to their means of livelihood, and thereby exhibiting unruly behaviour and other violent acts very likely to cause the breakdown of law and order and disturbance of public peace. The Police personnel intervened at the point that the concerned Nigerians group lost control of the crowd and prevented miscreants, hoodlums and other criminal elements from hijacking the protest to cause mayhem and chaos.”

Politics / Buhari Sets Date, Option To Resign – Presidency Source Reveals by odutolasodiq(m): 4:31pm On Aug 09, 2017
As the agitations of the Concerned Nigerians under the auspices of “Our Mumu Don Do” Movement becomes fiercer and clocks third day today.

The Presidency has spoken about the intended specific date of President Muhammadu Buhari’s resignation if he doesn’t recover soon.

Yesterday August 8, a credible source within the Presidency told journalists that the president has revealed a particular date to tender his resignation if he doesn’t recover from his illness.

The President has been in London since May 7 for a medical check-up, leaving Vice- President Yemi Osinbajo to act in his stead.

In reactions to the media uproar over his continued absence, the source said:

“The president is not desperate to cling on to power if his health cannot carry him. I can tell you authoritatively that he has given a timeline that if he doesn’t recover fully on a specific date, he will file in his resignation letter and if you
know President Buhari very well, he meant what he said.

“That is why Nigerians who love the president and his efforts in restoring Nigeria’s lost glory should continue to pray for his quick recovery. It will be to our disservice if he dies as some people are wishing him”.

To note, the specific date given by President Buhari was not made public but it can be revealed that the condition for resignation is hinged on his health status.

Health / Consumption of processed, chemical foods linked to infertility-Fertility Experts by odutolasodiq(m): 10:27am On Aug 09, 2017
As Nigerian Fertility experts began consultation on ethics in Assisted Reproduction Technique, the high rate of infertility among Nigerian men has been linked to high consumption of chemically grown and processed foods.
In the interview with journalists during a Public Discussion on Ethics in Invitro Fertilisation, IVF, practice in Nigeria,  the President Association for Fertility and Reproductive Health, AFRH, Dr. Faye Iketubosin , who traced the problem on the food chain said these foods have been causing harm to both men and female.  Iketubosin, a Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist said “Male fertility has been on the increase in the last 20 years. According to him, the average sperm count in men has dropped as such that the World a Health Organisation, WHO, actually estimates that it’s now downward from 20 million to 15 million and that’s because of the global food chain trend. “It is so because of the food chain. Eating a lot of processes foods that are grown with chemicals and productions. These chemicals have now gotten to the food chain and affecting us in negative ways resulting to infertility on the male side.” He said while the causes of male infertility could be trace to chemically grown and processed foods, the female infertility is mainly caused by their career pursuit resulting to delay in marriage and child bearing. “The female side, there are also a number of factors which also affects fertility. One of them is that, more women have embarked on successful careers causing delay in having children. A woman has a life span in which she can achieve children naturally. So by the time she begins that quest for child, they would have gotten too old.” He argued that, the only way to solve the problem of chemically grown and processed foods is to imbibe the culture of organic farming. “In some countries, they have gone back to organic farming and products which tends to be more expensive than the processed foods. This will take more of a bigger government policy to actually look into agricultural policy which should monitor our food chain” he added. Speaking on the Ethics in ART, Faye said the forum was organized to listen to different groups and religion how they feel about the effectiveness of In Vitro Fertilization, adding that the proceeds of the public discussion would go into the drafting of Ethical Practice Guidelines for ART activities by the AFRH. “It’s an enlightening session and also an information gathering for practitioners, we as practitioners are concerned about we carrying out our duties in an ethical way. We need to speak to the public to get their opinion on certain things that we do which we think maybe controversial, particularly when they are in conflict with our culture. So at the end of the day we want to know what is of ethical standard as regard our profession in Nigeria” he said. Speaking from the religious perspective, Dr. Ahmad Sa’eid of the department of surgery, Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, who was a panellist argued that for IVF to be considered, the religions in the country should be put in place. “This program will provide a framework for some kind of policy for the government for development and maybe for future presentation as a kind of law. We can see the religious aspect of it and therefore we are hopeful that whenever these policies will be made and laws developed, it will take into cognizance the fact that more than 90 percent of the citizens of this country are either Christians or Muslims. So you can’t make a law that will disregard these fates. “We want to assume again that when such policies or laws are developed, it will also take care of the concern that our culture is very important to the people who are citizens of this country. The fact that it’s happening in other parts of the world doesn’t mean that everything happening there must be imported wholesale into Nigeria. Child bearing brings joy but the fact that I want to fill the joy of child bearing doesn’t mean that I must get that at all cost” he said. On his part, Chairman AFRH Ethics Committee, Dr. Richardson Ajayi , commented that the essence of the programme was to enable the practitioners reflect to the perspective of the society as regards religion and non-religion. “The whole concept of ethics is the fusion of different positions. There are religious group that has certain positions and non-religious group have a certain position, so we are only trying to reflect the framework of our society by getting the position we believe is right or wrong according to our own society.  The law is a bit slow in Nigeria and one of the objectives of this forum is to be able to reflect that irrespective of the society. Once we know what the society thinks, the next thing is to try and put it into law. This is part of the journey of trying to modify the legal position of what IVF in our country should be” he said.

Politics / Boko Haram Is Getting Tougher - Fayose Warns by odutolasodiq(m): 12:10pm On Jul 31, 2017
The relentless speechmaker against the All Progressives Congress-led Federal Government, Governor Ayodele Fayose has decried the perpetual killings perpetrated by the insurgent group of Boko Haram.

The Ekiti state Governor threw banters at the APC-Federal Government which had in times past claimed victory over Boko Haram.

In his own indication, the Governor feels Boko Haram is still fiercer than it started off killing soldiers at will yet the Federal Government keeps the effects low from the public.

Governor Fayose, in a press release issued on Sunday by his Chief
Press Secretary, Mr. Idowu Adelusi, argued this saying:

“The battle is not over yet. In fact, it is raging fiercer than ever before. The gory killing of the oil workers confirms this. The wanton destruction of lives and property all over the place by Boko Haram also testifies to this fact.

“Like the ostrich, this government is trying hard to cover what cannot be covered. Boko Haram ambushes and kills soldiers at will.

“Gallant officers and men continue to fall in battle to the superior firepower and higher morale of the insurgents.

“Boko Haram invades and sacks communities at will, carting away human beings and other resources.

“The insurgents throw bombs with reckless abandon. Is this the evidence of a degraded or defeated Boko Haram?”

It's obvious this guy doesn't have a pint of blood of freedom fighters running in his veins, he just wanted attention and recognition and he got it. With those stringent bail conditions he was able to meet all he should be doing now is making peaceful consultations and laying strategies. I won't be surprised if he is re-arrested... and this time he is gonna stay long in detention. Little wonder most of the political bigwigs from SE distance themselves from his suicide mission called agitation in the name of self recognition.
