Crime / Photos: See Assault Rifles Multi-millionaire Used In Killing 59 At US Concert by odutolasodiq(m): 3:28pm On Oct 04, 2017
The first photographs from inside the hotel room used by Stephen Paddock during his killing spree show the fire power he used to kill 59 people in Las Vegas, United States of America.

One image appears to show an assault rifle fitted with a legal modified stock, which uses the weapon’s recoil to allow the shooter to fire rounds at a speed approaching that of a fully automatic gun.

Police confirmed that Paddock had fitted two “bump stocks”, which can be obtained for as little as $99 (£75).

A second picture obtained by Boston25 News shows an assault rifle abandoned on the carpet, fitted with a bipod and scope.
Dozens of spent cartridges show the intensity of the attack.
And a hammer, possibly used to smash the suite’s corner windows, can be seen clearly.
In all, police say Paddock had 23 guns inside room 32135 of the Mandalay Bay hotel, and another 19 at his home.

Housekeepers say they noticed nothing that would have alerted them to his plans, but Joseph Lombardo, sheriff of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department, said he had used more than 10 bags to carry his weapons up to the 32nd floor.
From his vantage point, Paddock had an uninterrupted view of the Route 91 Harvest Festival where some 22,000 people gathered below.

Security guards were met by bullets as they approached the door to the suite.
Paddock was dead by the time police officers used explosives to gain entry.

Politics / Cleaner Lagos Initiative: Govt. Begins Waste Bags Distribution To Households by odutolasodiq(m): 3:36pm On Sep 29, 2017
In line with its commitment to achieve a cleaner, healthy and safer environment for residents, the state government has kicked-off the distribution of waste bags to households in communities across Lagos.

According to the Operations Director, Visionscape, Tarak Sahay, one million bags will be distributed in this first phase of the exercise.

That was made known during an interactive forum organized recently by Visionscape with Area Managers under the Cleaner Lagos Initiative.

The meeting held at Visionscape office located at Ogudu GRA, Lagos.

Visionscape is a leading global environmental utility group assigned by the Lagos State Government to provide waste management services.

Mr. Sahay said: “In the last six months we have surveyed the entire city of Lagos and collated vital data to make this initiative very effective. We therefore understand population density of the communities and areas we are working even up to the number of streets and households in the state. This fair assessment aids us to know the amount of waste that can be generated in any particular location. And accordingly, we are going to create adequate capacity required in terms of number of bins for the areas.

“So, when they use the nylon bags to hold their domestic waste, they will move it to the collection points where we have located nearest to them. And the CLI workers will take it from there. In the long run, we will be providing the waste bags to each household in the entire city of Lagos.

He also said plans were on to ensure wastes are collected weekly, adding that community involvement is important in achieving the goals of Cleaner Lagos Initiative.

The CLI which was initiated by the Governor Akinwunmi Abode-led government aims to make Lagos the greenest city in Africa by 2029, reducing the accumulation of solid waste, promoting best practices including reducing reusing and recycling.

It also include preventing public littering and disposal of waste, improving the quality, practices and treatment of waterways, wastewater and sewage, reducing greenhouse gas emission and air pollution to decrease the impact on climate change.

The firm is also to engage in environmental-based projects to address and reverse degradation and decrease Lagos’ crime rate with the creation of over 27, 000 direct and indirect jobs and alleviating poverty.

Other top executives of Visionscape, including Tunji Sasore, operations manager; Thomas Forgacs, chief operations officer and Aravindu Valmeekan, operations manager, Lagos West as well as area managers attended the interactive forum

Among the highlights of the Cleaner Lagos Initiative are: regular collection of waste with trucks and properly kitted operators, proper distribution of bins across the state, effective operation of sanitation workers, sweeping daily in every Local Government Area (LG) and Local Council development Area (LCDA), regular cleaning of waterways, highways, and drainage system to prevent flooding.

Politics / Why We Arrested Fayose’s Aides – EFCC by odutolasodiq(m): 3:11pm On Sep 29, 2017
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC has given their reason for the arrest of Ekiti State Commissioner of Finance, Toyin Ojo and the Accountant-General of the state on Thursday.

In coincidence with the day the state governor, Ayodele Fayose was declaring his intention at to contest 2019 Presidency in Abuja, two of his cabinet members were not spared by the anti-graft agency.

However, Wilson Uwujaren, the spokesman of EFCC, said in a statement signed that
government officials were arrested following their refusal to honour the commission’s invitation.

“They are currently in the custody of the EFCC. They were picked up today following their refusal to honour previous invitations for interrogation in relation to pending investigation on the misuse of bailout funds by the Ayodele Fayose administration,” he stated.

Politics / Tell The Villa Hawks That Last Year They Used DSS, It Failed – Fayose by odutolasodiq(m): 2:32pm On Sep 29, 2017
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti state has reacted to the arrest of his State Commissioner for Finance, Chief Toyin Ojo and the Accountant General, Mrs. Yemisi Owolabi by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, saying

those he described as “Villa hawks” to be told that “last year, they used DSS” but “it failed.”

While Governor Fayose was declaring his presidential ambition on Thursday 28th of September, 2017, EFCC swooped in and arrested the Ekiti state’s Commissioner for Finance and its Accountant General over alleged financial misappropriation of the bail-out funds to the state.

But Governor Fayose, while condemning the arrest, said,

“The arrestors of today would be arrested tomorrow.”

Governor Fayose gave the statement through his twitter handle, @GovAyoFayose. While equally faulting his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP’s stance that he would not contest the 2019 presidency under its ticket, Fayose also said that he wants to contest despite PDP’s zoning of the position to the north, saying, “Do we now say that if no one comes out from the North, the party won’t have a candidate?”

He also said that;
“Our party should not wait or beg anyone to fly its flag.”

According to him, “If you say I’m not an issue, why can’t you ignore me?” “The arrestors of today would be arrested tomorrow.”
“Those who gave reasons @realDonaldTrump won’t be POTUS know better now.

I want to be President of Nigeria, that’s what I will be.” “They think they can use @officialEFCC to intimidate us, we are waiting. But tell the Villa hawks that last year, they used DSS, it failed.” “They remembered bailout fund the moment I made it public that I was declaring for President.

So Ekiti was the only state that got bailout?”

“My decision to seek the PDP ticket to contest the 2019 presidential election is without prejudice to our party’s position.”

“However, I am a supporter of competence and capacity especially now that this country needs young and able leaders that can take our country out of this present state of hopelessness.”

“Most importantly, despite that the party has zoned the presidency to the North, no one has come out in this manner to show interest.”

“Our party should not wait or beg anyone to fly its flag.”

“Do we now say that if no one comes out from the North, the party won’t have a candidate?” “Going down memory lane, in 1999 and 2003,despite that our party zoned the presidency to the South, Rimi and Gemade contested the ticket.”

“Also in 2007, some party members from the South did declare their intention to contest interest and obtained nomination Forms.”

“Our party must not lose sight that Nigerians at this period are desirous of a President with demonstrated capacity to change their fortunes”

“Our party must not lose sight that Nigerians at this period are desirous of a President with demonstrated capacity to change their fortunes.”

“Twice, I defeated incumbents to become the Governor of Ekiti State. I am confident that with your support as my party leaders and supporters, I will defeat President Buhari, in a free and fair election.” He posited

Sports / National Stadium Of Prostitutes, Drug Peddlers, Beer And Pepper Soup Joints by odutolasodiq(m): 12:58pm On Sep 25, 2017
Built in 1972, the National Stadium served as a training center for Nigerian athletes, established and aspiring, but has since become a haven for prostitutes and drug peddlers, apart from serving as a food and drink joint.

This was the response of a football coach on the state of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos. The statement is just one of several attestations of negligence suffered by the country’s first national stadium.

Built in 1972, the National Stadium served as a training center for Nigerian athletes, established and aspiring, but has since become a haven for prostitutes and drug peddlers, apart from serving as a food and drink joint.

A year after it was built, the National Stadium became the center of attraction as the All Africa Games came underway. For 11 days, the stadium hosted world leaders and leading sports professionals. Nigeria went on to win 63 medals, including gold in football, which pitched the country second only next to Egypt.

Aside from the All Africa Games, a number of international competitions such as the 1980 and 2000 African Cup of Nations and FIFA World Cup qualifying matches were hosted there. While the memories endure, the world class facilities that made the hosting of such competitions possible are long moribund. From the overcrowded table tennis court to the derelict all indoor games complex, further down to the main bowl, the various sections of the stadium beg for attention.

With a capacity of 45,000 seats, the National Stadium, in some other clime, could have been a source of huge revenue for the federal government. But the main bowl is constantly under lock except during football matches organized by private companies. Even then, movement within the main bowl is restricted.

A father took his four-year-old son, who had been yearning to see the race track that he had seen on television, to the stadium but the boy had to shed some tears before the guard allowed him and his father in for only 10 minutes.

“We are not allowing people into the stadium,” he told the man to the disappointment of his son. The boy began to cry, throwing tantrums and refusing to release his grip on the gate. After much begging from the father and the boy’s inconsolable cry, the guard allowed them in.

In August of this year, SaharaReporters visited the main bowl during a football boot camp organized by Cowbell, a dairy product, and observed that only one of the gates to the main bowl was opened and all the entrances to the bleachers and stands were locked. The kids, she noticed, urinated in different corners of the main bowl as there were no toilets accessible to them.

“The male toilet is always locked and that woman there [pointing at an elderly woman who kept watch of the only accessible toilet] will not allow us use the opened toilet,” one of the Cowbell participants said, after discreetly relieving himself at the corner of the track. It was later found out that people pay N50 to use the toilet. In order to avoid the fee, many defecate or urinate anywhere they consider convenient.

Fun City

Although the National Stadium has long lost its shine as a sport center, it certainly does well as a social center, particularly at night. Perhaps the more flourishing businesses in the sport complex are those that offer food and drinks, with chilled beers and spicy ‘Nkwobi’ and pepper soup as main attractions. Beyond these are women who come to strut their stuff, hoping to strike a deal for the night. According to Sniper, there’s no dull moment in the stadium at night.

“Business is good here,” one of the joint owners said. “We have customers and because this place is secluded, they are free to do as they like. Some of them come in with their girls while some meet new girls here,” she said, smiling.

Little to Cheer

Undoubtedly, the stadium is an embarrassment to many Nigerians today, but Amanda and her mother are happy for the opportunity to use the stadium even in its poor state.

Six-year-old Amanda was one of the participants of the Olumide Ayodeji basketball camp.

After taking a few shots and drinking her water, she told our reporter that she loves coming to the stadium to play basketball with her friends.

“The basketball camp has helped keep the kids busy. They are on holiday, so instead of leaving them at home to watch TV all day or go for summer classes, sport is a better option,” Amanda’s mother explained.

Similarly, Laolu, a lawn tennis player, said he loves to visit the stadium.

“I like coming to the stadium, but my parents prevent me sometimes. Lawn tennis is not like other sports and this place is different from other parts of the stadium where you see rough boys. I am trying to save up so that I can buy my own racket,” he said.

More Talk, Less Action

Solomon Dalung, Minister for Youth and Sports, visited the stadium in March this year and acknowledged that it was in shambles.

“The national stadium, which was regarded as a monument of our national history, has become a national embarrassment. It is in a very sorry state, as the level of dilapidation can never be compared to our level of civilization,” Mr. Dalung said.

Prior to the minister’s visit, the Lagos State government indicated interest in acquiring the stadium, a move Mr. Dalung viewed positively.

“We can’t fold our arms and watch this monument continue to rot away. We intend to renovate the facility and bring it back to its prime position as sports city where other sports, apart from football, can also be developed. That is why I welcome the decision of the Lagos State government to step in to restore our national pride and bring it back to a state we all can be proud of.

"It is the first step and a very important step in the process of a possible takeover. This inspection has given us first hand information as to what is required to bring back the edifice to use,” assured Mr. Dalung.

He clarified, however, that taking over management of the stadium does not mean ceding ownership of it to Lagos.

Since visiting the stadium, little, if anything, has been done to improve it.

According to Deji Tinubu, the special adviser on sport to Akinwunmi Ambode, Lagos State governor, the state government is still “waiting for a positive response from the federal government.”

Mr. Tinubu, who spoke with SaharaReporters about the handover, said the Lagos State government “will be patient.” He also said Lagos State has no power over a federal government property without permission to take charge.

However, should a federal government property become a harbinger of insecurity, patience might not be the best virtue, because as it stands, no one knows for sure whether or not such patience will pay off.

But until then, urchins will continue to use the stadium to buy drugs while prostitutes flourish in the monument of shame.

Foreign Affairs / Breaking: Iran joins N/Korea, tests new ballistic missile by odutolasodiq(m): 12:32pm On Sep 23, 2017
Just like North Korea, Iran has tested a new ballistic missile that is reportedly capable of carrying multiple warheads after a successful unveiling on Friday at a military parade in Tehran.

The missile known as “the Khorramshahr”, has a range of 1,250 miles (2,000 kilometers) and can carry multiple warheads, according to Press TV.

“The Khorramshahr missile launched from an unknown location has become smaller in size and more tactical and it will be operational in the near future,” the broadcaster said. With such a range, the missile would be easily capable of reaching Israel and Saudi Arabia.

Speaking during Friday’s parade, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said Tehran would press ahead with strengthening its missile capabilities and military defenses. “We will promote our defensive and military power as much as we deem necessary,” Rouhani said.

“We seek no one’s permission to defend our land.” He added, “Whether you like it or not we are going to help Syria, Yemen and Palestine, and we will strengthen our missiles.”

Rouhani said the United States and Israel have isolated themselves by opposing the 2015 nuclear agreement between Iran and the other major powers. He added that Iran remains fully committed to the pact, Press TV reported.

The United States extended sanctions relief for Iran last week as part of the agreement, which President Donald Trump has described as “the worst deal ever.”

It was mainly a procedural move, but it was significant since re-imposing nuclear-related sanctions could lead Iran to end its compliance with the deal and revert back to rapid uranium enrichment; something it’s threatened to do if the United States reneges.

Politics / Operation Python Dance: How Does The Python Dance? by odutolasodiq(m): 1:18pm On Sep 14, 2017
By Amenze obi

I had thought that the operation code-named “Python Dance”, which the Nigerian Army launched in the South East in the twilight of 2016 meant something special in military parlance. I thought it represented an idea, which could make sense only to the initiated.

But its translation into Igbo as “Egwu Eke” in the second phase of the operation has exposed the ordinariness of the expression. What we have is not even a translation. It is outright transliteration. In this regard, Python Dance means nothing other than the dance of the python.

So we then ask: How does the python dance? Does the python even dance? Does its snaky and dodgy movement amount to a dance? Even if we associate this snake with dancing, how does that represent what the army did in the South East last year and which it is doing again now? As a matter of fact, there is a contradiction between what the python represents and the allusion being made to it here. Tropical pythons are generally docile and nonvenomous. One, therefore, wonders how this attribute fits the military operation in the South East.

Even though the expression, as employed by the army,  has no semantic value, the activities of soldiers  in carrying out the operation in the South East tell us in clear terms the intent and purpose of the exercise.  It is about oppression and suppression, harassment and intimidation. It is about brute force, and abuse and  curtailment of human rights. The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. General Tukur Buratai, has, in his own words, said it was about raids, cordon and search operations, anti-kidnapping drills, road blocks, checkpoints,  and ultimately, a show of force to curb the rising threat to national security in the south eastern part of the country. This declaration by Buratai is punitive in intent and purpose. It is a provocative dance; a slap on the face and an assault on the mentality of the people of the South East. I do not see the python playing this role.  What I see is a sting, a calculated violence on the sobriety of a people.

The operation, to all intents and purposes, is aimed at provoking a war. Government is clearly the aggressor here. The Biafran agitators, whom government is targeting in this operation have made it clear at all times that theirs is not an arms struggle. They are not interested in warfare. So, who does the government think it wants to provoke into war? If the idea is to intimidate and beat the people of the South East into line, then it will be ultimately counterproductive. Those who seek to preserve the unity of the country by bruising and brutalising the body and mind of a section of it may end up achieving the very opposite of their mission.

In fact, what is going on at moment in the South East is not about Python Dance as declared. The operation, according to the time table released by the Nigerian Army,  is supposed to start on September 15 and end on October 14. Yet military raids and killings in the region started several days before the official commencement of the operation. This goes to show that the announcement of the exercise is merely to fulfill all righteousness. Government has very sinister intentions. It is poised for action. It wants to put an end to separatist agitations by sheer force of arms. Democratic governance does not admit of this crude tactic. What we have on our hands is a hateful and vengeful exercise. It is a shame that a government which is elected by the people to serve the collective interest of the country is showing open disdain and dislike for a section.

But we do not need to second-guess what government is up to. It is doing the bidding of the Arewa aggressors who, in June, issued a quit notice to the Igbo to leave the North not later than 1st of October. In stepping out against the activities of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), the Arewa youths freely engaged in hate speech and hate song. They called the Igbo names. They incited the northern population to violence and murder. While all this was taking place, men and women of goodwill condemned the action of the Arewa youths and called for the arrest of their ring leaders. Curiously, the Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami, said government would not arrest the Arewa boys because of its security implications. Malami did not tell us what the security implications were. But he did not bat an eyelid when he approached the courts to rearrest Nnamdi Kanu. For Malami, arresting Kanu or any of the Biafran agitators has no security implication. Only that of the Arewa boys has. Can a country survive under this brazen show of nepotism and favoritism?

Viewing the situation from where we are at moment, it is evident that government is trying to meet the conditions given by the Arewa boys for the suspension of the quit notice. No one should lose sight of the fact that government has created a state of siege in the South East at a time the Igbo in the North are likely to come under attack from their northern traducers. It is a case of double jeopardy for the Igbo, especially those who may be on the run when the guns begin to boom in northern towns and cities. Now, the East which they are supposed to return to has been seized by an army of occupation. If this is not a grand design to annihilate a people, I wonder what else it is.

These are, indeed, trying times for the Igbo. But the way to survive the onslaught is by being steadfast. Ohanaeze Ndigbo is already doing this. It is telling the inconvenient truth to government. It had told them to withdraw the troops deployed to the South East. That is the final word. There is no middle ground on this matter. Speaking tongue-in-cheek or sounding cowardly as Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State has done is shameful. Men of courage do not seek cover whenever they want to make a point. They say it as it is. Okezie fell short in this regard.  He failed to condemn the invasion and shootings that took place in Umuahia on 10th of September. For the governor, the incident could “presumably be attributed to the commencement of the said Operation Python Dance II.” Really? Does Governor Okezie not know that Operation Python Dance was yet to commence?  The governor appears to be scared stiff. That is why he has imposed a curfew in Aba.  The governor is clearly going for the wrong solution. He should tell the Federal Government to withdraw the troops. That is the only way to go.

He and other lily-livered governors like Willie Obiano of Anambra State should make bold to remind the Federal Government that the army operation in the South East is misplaced. If the government wants to carry out anti-kidnapping drills, it knows where to go to. After all, we have more cases of kidnappings and armed banditry in other parts of the South other than the South East. In the same vein, if government is interested in show of force, it should look northward. The North East should be a fertile ground for such activities. Making the South East a whipping boy should be rejected and condemned by South East leaders. Those who bury their heads in the sand will have posterity to contend with.

Beyond being a mobile banking code, GTB uses that number as a marketing strategy.

The idea is to make you and other Nigerians (non-GTB customers especially) dial the number on their mobile phones to see the actual purpose when in the real sense, the code is of no value to non- customers. So in a nutshell, GTB wants you and other non-GTB customers to see what they're missing.

You'd notice that throughout the ad (video) play time, the name "GTB" was never mentioned. They kept making reference to *737# and "Nigerians". If they had mentioned *737# and "GTB Customers", you'd not have created this thread.

Education / OAU: Show Of Shame As SUG Excos Fight Over N3.8m by odutolasodiq(m): 1:08pm On Sep 07, 2017
Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU) Students’ Union Vice President, Jacob Tosin ( Emerald ) and the Director of Social, Adedayo Afolabi ( Lamba ) fought dirty on Tuesday, 5th of September, 2017 at the CEC meeting that held at the office of the President of the Union, Oyekan Ibukun.

Investigation revealed that the kerfuffle is connected to N3.8 million Students’ Union backlog fund released by the University management on Thursday, 31st of August, 2017.

We gathered that the council resolved to embark on some projects with the backlog fund which include; refurbishment of union library, construction of SUB relaxation centre and construction of staircase around Alumni-Archi axis while the Vice President, Emerald expressed her displeasure over the decision because they declined her proposal.

The Welfare Director of the Union, Ajiboye Adekanmi, who spoke to our reporter in an interview was quoted saying:

“The Vice President was not pleased with the decision because we denied her the funds for fresher’s package. We told her to wait for the disbursement of of 2016/17  session but she flared up.”

“While she proceeded to the door to exit the meeting, Lamba engaged her but she raised alarm of harassment. Emerald attacked Lamba first before he retaliated. Later, she opened the fridge of the president but could not find any bottle except a malt bottle on the shelf which she broke to attack Lamba. When both party engaged in another round of physical combat, Lamba headbutted the Vice President, Emerald. They both sustained injuries and they were taken to university health centre”, Welfare Director said.

The Financial Secretary of the Union, Omisakin Kehinde also shared story related to that of the Welfare Director with our reporter.

“We got a backlog from management and we all discussed on what to you the money for.  Emerald raised the issue of fresher’s package which was discarded since she already has N1.4 million in her proposed budget. She hot vexed. While trying to leave, Lamba blocked her but she slapped Lamba. Both engaged themselves physically before we could separate them.”

“Emerald searched fridge, later got a bottle on the shelf, broke it and charged Lamba while Lamba also headbutted her”, Omisakin stated.

The Secretary General of the Union, Boluwajaiye Adeoluwa, while speaking in a public group said the matter was not a big issue. He said two grown up individuals were unable to control their anger and it escalated.

However, the PRO of union, Okediji Simon Zuma and the President, Oyekan Ibukun denied any form of interview with our reporter on the saga.

While speaking with Lamba in a telephone conversation, he told our reporter that he only prevented the VP from going out which led to the saga.

“When we could not meet her demand, she vexed but I held her back jokingly. She slapped me times without number,  broke bottle and I headbutted her which was self defense”, Lamba argued.

Meanwhile, on getting to the University health centre we were told that the Vice President, Emerald has been transferred to 7th day Adventist Hospital, Ile Ife due to the fact that government doctors embarked on strike.

On our visitation to the 7th day Adventist hospital, we met the University Acting Chief Security Officer, Mr. O. Babatunde who said the Vice Chancellor of the institution has ordered the security unit to investigate the incident and file comprehensive report to his office.

He said: “The Vice Chancellor is already aware of the matter, he has placed to me that we should investigate and file comprehensive report before today the end of Today. Fighting is becoming too rampant and we are getting irritated with the officers behavior”

He further buttressed that the management don’t want to regret reinstatement of the Union.

However, all efforts to speak with Emerald proved abortive as she was seen receiving drip with swollen face at the time our reporter got to the hospital.

One of her friends who spoke to us under the condition of anonymity for security reasons said the VP was mercilessly rough handled by the Director of Social and nobody sees anything wrong with Lamba deeds.

While reacting to the incident, a member of the SU parliament,  Ayuba Quadri was quoted saying:”It’s quite sadder and embarrassing that, isn’t only some ridiculous adults that have brought the country into the present degeneracy, but, it’s sufficed also to acknowledge the retrogressive roles played by youths in this downfall, we are as a nation, today.”

Another student who pleaded anonymity also told our reporter that the Union is fast becoming a death trap and if care is not taken, the union leaders will dent the image of the institution.

Politics / Kwara Activist Petitions Police As Saraki's Aides And Thugs Threaten Him by odutolasodiq(m): 3:48pm On Sep 01, 2017
Mr. Kayode Oyin-Zubair, an Ilorin resident and critic of the Senate President, Mr. Bukola Saraki, has received threats to his life from supporters of the Senate President.

Thugs of the Senate President also tortured another critic into falsely accusing him of attempting to detonate a bomb at the Kwara State High Court premises.

Fearing for his life, Mr. Oyin-Zubair has written to the Kwara State Commissioner of Police, alleging criminal defamation and threat to life. Dated August 31, the petition traced the Mr. Oyin-Zubair's ordeal to about a month ago when he appeared at the Kwara State High Court in support of Mr. Biodun Baba, a teacher arraigned for criticising Mr. Saraki on Facebook.

On that day, he met a man who also came to solidarize with Mr. Saraki's victim. On August 30, Mr. Oyin-Zubair returned to the Kwara State High Court to observe the proceedings in the matter between SaharaReporters and Mr. Saraki. Mr. Oyin-Zubair said he saw a swarm of people led by one Mr. Tunji Sulyman and one Mrs. Sarah Adebayo.

While waiting beside his car, Mr. Oyin-Zubair said he was greeted by a young man wearing a T-shirt emblazoned with "The Cabal Must Go". He recognized the young man from their meeting during Mr. Baba's court appearance the previous month. Mr. Oyin-Zubair said he had to leave the court premises to attend to a personal intervention program he had lined up in Ilorin that day.
Half an hour after he left, Mr. Oyin-Zubair said in the petition, he started receiving distress calls and messages from the young man he met, saying some individuals had planned to attack him court. Mr. Oyin-Zubair said he advised the young man to remain in the courtroom because nobody would dare attack him inside the courtroom.

When Mr. Oyin-Zubair finished what he was doing, he headed to the court, where he got some policemen to accompany him to the courtroom in the hope of rescuing the young man. However, they did not find him.

Later in the day, said Mr. Oyin-Zubair, the young man phoned to say he was abducted from the courtroom and brutalized. Much later the same day, Mr. Oyin-Zubair said he received calls from friends that a video had been posted on the Facebook page of one Mr. Olusegun Olusola AKA Shollyment.

The video, according to Mr. Oyin-Zubair, showed the young man he met in court lying against him after being tortured. He said he phoned the young man to find out what had happened and the young man said he was made to frame him up under duress, at gunpoint, as one of those engaged to disrupt court proceedings earlier in the day. The next day, Mr. Oyin-Zubair said a blog owned by Mr Saraki, Fidelity Reporters, posted a report that Mr. Oyin-Zubair was sponsored by SaharaReporters publisher, Mr. Omoyele Sowore, to detonate a bomb at the court premises.

"It is on this note that I passionately request you to investigate those behind this dastardly act and threat to my life before harm is done to me. To aid the fast investigation, the cellphone number of Olusegun Olusola, who posted the video on his Facebook page is 08036619476," Mr. Oyin-Zubair wrote in his petition.

Politics / Quit Notice : Arewa Youths Can’t Fool Us With Withdrawal — Niger Delta Agitators by odutolasodiq(m): 7:03am On Aug 28, 2017
By Levinus Nwabughiogu

ABUJA—Niger Delta agitators, yesterday, described the withdrawal of the quit notice issued to the Igbos resident in the North by a coalition of northern youth as an attempt to hoodwink Nigerians.

They said that it was also laughable to announce the withdrawal alongside a call to revoke the bail conditions of the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

Rising from a meeting where they evaluated the developments, the agitators rejected the withdrawal of the notice in its entirety.

They also accused the Federal Government and the northern governors of conniving with the Arewa youths in issuing the Igbo quit notice.

In a statement after the meeting, the agitators maintained their earlier stance which demanded the departure of northerners and Yoruba of the South West from the Niger Delta region before October 1, 2017.

Those who signed the statement included General John Duku (Niger Delta Watchdogs and Convener, Coalition of Niger Delta Agitators); General Ekpo Ekpo (Niger Delta Volunteers); General Osarolor Nedam (Niger Delta Warriors); Major-Gen. Henry Okon Etete (Niger Delta Peoples Fighters); Major-Gen. Asukwo Henshaw (Bakassi Freedom Fighters); Major-Gen. Ibinabo Horsfall (Niger Delta Movement for Justice); Major-Gen. Duke Emmanson (Niger Delta Fighters Network); Major-Gen. Inibeghe Adams (Niger Delta Freedom Mandate) and Major-Gen. Ibinabo Tariah (Niger Delta Development Network).

The agitators also insisted that all oil blocks in the coastal area given to a former President, former military heads of state, amongst other personalities should be returned to them.

They also reiterated their resolve to resume attacks on all oil installations from September 10 and warned all onshore and offshore workers to leave the area.

They said: “The recent gathering of the Arewa Youths in Transcorp Hilton, Abuja to announce the suspension of the quit notice issued to Igbos in the North is one action that glaringly shows that government and security heads from the North were the brains behind the earlier announcement.

“It is laughable that the Arewa Youth group thinks it can fool the rest of Nigerians, particularly those of us in the Niger Delta part of Nigeria, by replacing the quit notice with call for the arrest of Nnamdi Kanu.”

Today the Federal Government has met-up the demand of the Coalition of Northern Youth Groups by filing a motion in court to revoke Nnamdi Kanu’s bail.”

Politics / Police Declare Senator Misau Wanted, Say He Patronises Indian Hemps Joints by odutolasodiq(m): 10:17pm On Aug 27, 2017
The Nigerian Police Force have said that Senator Isah Hamma Misau is wanted for being a deserter from the  organisation and that he will be arrested for the crime and possible forgery of a retirement letter.

It was the twist in the financial allegation slammed against the Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris  by the Senator, who claimed that Idris diverted N10billion income made by the police.
The police responded by not only debunking the allegation, but also claiming that Senator Isah Mamman Misau deserted his post in Niger state seven years ago as a Deputy Superintendent.

According to the police, Misau still exists on the Nigeria Police Force Officers Staff List as AP. No 57300 DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman.

His last posting  was to Niger State Police Command on the 24 September, 2010. The police said the retirement letter which the Senator showed journalists may have been forged.

THE POLICE FULL STATEMENT:

“The Force’s attention was drawn to the publications in the media attributed to the Senator captioned “Senator accuses IG of cornering N10b monthly IGR, taking bribe to post CPs to juicy states”.

“It’s expedient to disabuse the minds of the members of the Public, most especially people that must have read the story or listened to the fabricated lies, unsubstantiated allegations and shallow imaginations of a personality claiming to be a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria with premeditated evil plans to incite the public against the Nigeria Police Force.

“The misleading, misrepresentation of facts and concocted allegations by the Senator against the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force are unfounded fallacies aimed at casting aspersions on the renewed commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to ensure law and order and protection of lives and property across the country.

“For avoidance of doubt, as earlier stated on 23rd August, 2017 during the Force press briefing with the media, Senator Isah Hamman Misau dubiously absconded and deserted the Nigeria Police Force on 24th September, 2010 when he was redeployed to Niger State Command and he refused to report, consequent upon which he was queried in line with the Public Service Rules Sections 030301(b)(g)(m)&(o) and  030402(a)(b)(c)(e)&(w), in addition to the previous queries and disciplinary process he was facing when he refused to proceed on Junior Command Course(JCC) 49/2008 at Staff College Jos between 5th January, 2009 and 19th June, 2009.

“The retirement letter presented to the journalists by DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman is suspiciously forged and dubiously obtained. The letter which was dated 5th March, 2014, a period of more than Four (4) years after AP No 57300 DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman (Senator Isah Hamman Misau) deserted the Force is now being investigated by the Force.

“It is on record for the public and the media to verify that, as AP No 57300 DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman was being wanted as a deserter, he contested and lost the Bauchi Central Senatorial Election in 2011 General Elections under Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), at the age of Thirty Seven (37).

“One Bappa Aliyu Misau contested against him under Congress of Progressive Change (CPC) Political Party; other contestants with him were Mohammed A. Mohammed (ANPP), Ibrahim Mohammed (Labour Party), Alh. Dansallah I. Ningi (MPPP), Ahmed Abdul Ningi (PDP) winner.

“AP. No 57300 DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman absconded from duty and deserted the Force on the 24th September, 2010 but contested the Bauchi Central Senatorial Election in 2011 General Elections under Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN), and got suspected to have forged retirement letter dated 5th March, 2014.

“This means that for four (4) years, he is still a Police Officer which made it a criminal act for him to contest election as a Police Officer in service and this is another fraud the Police is investigating against him.

“He also perpetrated an act of impersonation by acknowledging the receipt of the suspected forged retirement letter as a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP Hamman Isah) instead of his actual rank of a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) (Ref Suspected fake retirement letter)

“DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman got the suspected forged retirement letter in 2014 but he contested the Bauchi Central Senatorial Election in 2011 General Elections under Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) at that time he was a Deputy Superintendent of Police and a deserter of the Force. This is a clear element and criminal liability of fraud and impersonation, because under the law, you cannot be a Police Officer and still stand for election.

“Furthermore, the evidences so far gathered revealed that the suspected forged retirement letter dated 5th March, 2014 which is currently a subject of investigation, was approved within six(6) working days by the Police Service Commission, this is very abnormal as the procedure for processing retirement must have been altered fraudulently.

“The suspicion of the Police on this is that the suspected forged letter was obtained to perpetuate deceit in furtherance of DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman’s fraudulent intentions and this is another reason why the suspected forged letter of retirement being brandished by DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman is being investigated.

“It is clearly a false allegation and severe distractions for DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman or any other person to wrongly without any proof or evidence accuse the Inspector General of Police of failure to remit money realized from Policemen attached to private citizens and oil companies amounting into about N10b monthly Internally Generated Revenue (IGR), when the truth and facts are that Nigeria Police Force is not a Revenue Generating Agency.

“These allegations from a dubious and fraudulent deserter Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) are ridiculous, baseless and a bear parlour gossip which can only be from someone of unsound mind, unrepentant and habitual liar who patronises Indian hemps joints.

“It is also pertinent to clear the misgivings of the accusation from DSP Mohammed Isa Hamman and inform the public that the Force based postings, transfers and deployment of Commissioners of Police, Police Mobile Force Commanders, SPU Commanders and other Commanding Officers on merit and competence of such officer to perform in that capacity and not on monetary, ethnic or religious consideration.

Posting and transfers are routine administrative tools to ensure the best performance of Police Officers toward optimum service delivery for the benefit of the public. The Inspector General of Police cannot compromise his integrity by receiving money before officers are posted. This allegation is also baseless, unfounded and so should be disregarded and discountenance by the public.

“His allegations against Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Police Command. CP Moses Jitoboh was promoted Commissioner of Police before the current Police Management Team and he is not a Nupe officer but was found to be capable and efficient which was why he was posted as Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command. Since his posting to Adamawa State, he has brought down crime rate to barest in the State and there has not been any complaint from the People and Government of Adamawa State on his performance. Therefore, there is no basis whatsoever for a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) to evaluate the performance of a Commissioner of Police.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State and other Officers that DSP Mohammed Isah Hamman disparaged have been granted permission and liberty by the Inspector General of Police to take legal actions against him as deemed necessary for his reckless utterances on the reputation of these officers.

“Considering all the above, the Force is compelled to seek the prompt consideration of the Senate Ethics and Privileges Committee to prevail on DSP Mohammed Isah Hamman to return to the Nigeria Police Force to face the Force Disciplinary Committee for various acts of serious misconduct, unprofessional wrong doings contrary to discipline, and other discreditable improper behaviours unbecoming of a Police Officer that he was charged with.

“The Nigeria Police Force hereby declares DSP Mohammed Isah Hamman (Senator Isah Haman Misau) a deserter from the Nigeria Police Force; the Force will definitely take appropriate action in this circumstance as it has to do with a Deserter under the Police Act and Regulations, the Criminal and Penal Codes, stipulating a deserter as a suspected criminal under the law. All other security agencies in the Country are equally implored to assist the Nigeria Police Force in this regard.

“Members of the public are advised to disregard and discountenance all the allegations against the Inspector General of Police and the Nigeria Police Force by DSP Mohammed Isah Hamman as totally unfounded and absolute falsehood.

” In conclusion, AP No 57300 DSP Mohammed Isah Hamman is still a Police Officer and not regarded as a Senator by the Nigeria Police Force. The retirement letter he is parading is a suspected forged document under investigation.

Health / Cellphone Radiation May Cause Male Infertility – Experts by odutolasodiq(m): 5:05pm On Aug 26, 2017
A Chemical Pathologist, Prof. Ganiyu Arinola, has advised men against putting cellphone in their trouser pockets, saying it may cause male infertility. Arinola, who is the Head, Department of Chemical Pathology, University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen in Ibadan.

According to him, public attention has been drawn to the issue of safety of radiations from laptops and putting cellphone in the pockets. “This calls for special focus, considering the fact that infertility has affected certain percentages of couples of reproductive age.

“It is worthy of note that nearly half of these percentages have been linked to male infertility.

“Other factors include exposure to certain environmental pollutants, lifestyle, occupation and infections of the urinary genital tract which have been linked to male infertility.

“Putting cellphone in the pockets or hang on a belt is recently proposed to be the cause of infertility, especially in the males,’’ he said.

Arinola, who is also a senior lecturer of Immunology at the University of Ibadan, said that studies carried out, using various methodologies, linked cellphones radiation to male infertility.

According to him, opinions differ as to the possible mechanism by which cellphones radiation may produce these changes within the short-time of putting it in the male pockets.

“Radiation from cellphones is said to affect sperm structure, mobility/movement, vitality or being alive for expected length of time.

“But, it is known that millions of sperm cells are released during mating and only one sperm is needed to fertilise the female egg.

“The likelihood is that all the sperms may not be damaged at the same time, but within the short-time of putting cell-phones in the pocket.

“Based on the health risks from cellphone radiation, it is advisable that simple precautionary safe method of handling cellphone should be practiced in order to protect health and fertility.

“Men should put their cell phones in the pockets of their shirts or suits, car safe, or hold it by hands, which are not in direct contact with testis sac. “This is a wake-up call to the men of reproductive age,’’ he said.

Arinola also advised that cellphone users should be cautious of the duration of phone possession, frequency of daily use, length of use and where they are kept. He said:

“Human body, such as layers of the skin, bone and tissue offer protection from the direct radiation of cellphone. “Sperm damage was suggested to be the production of `toxic’ or reactive oxygen species by radiation from cellphones.”

Arinola further explained that the reactive oxygen species were particularly harmful to living cells and proteinous substances, which according to him, our body sperm cells and supporting materials are made-up of.

“The production of oxygen species by cellphone radiation raises the possibility that cellphone radiation, as a result of careless placements and long term use, can contribute to sperm damage.

“Based on the health risks from cellphone radiation, it is advisable that simple precautionary safe method of handling cellphone should be practiced in order to protect health and fertility.

NAN reports that a Professor of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Prof. Alexander Owolabi, had described infertility as major burden on clinical service delivery in Nigeria, leading to marital disharmony and physical violence against women.

Owolabi, who is also an In-Vitro Fertilisation (IVF) expert with the Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital (OAUTH)), Ile-Ife, said,  “There is gender discrimination as to who among the couple is responsible for infertility.’’

While delivering the 306th Inaugural Lecture of the Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife, Osun, said:

“About 40 per cent of infertility is due to problems in the female, 40 per cent to problems in the male, and 15 per cent to combined male/female problems. “In five per cent, there is no recognisable cause,’’ he said.

Owolabi said that the factors predispose to HIV such as greater marital instability and higher likelihood of extramarital sexual partners when a couple was frustrated by the inability to have a child. According to him, experiences from clinical practice in Nigeria indicate that infertility is a major burden on clinical service delivery in Nigeria. He said several reports indicated that infertility was the most frequent reason for gynaecological consultation in Nigeria.

Owolabi said: “As result of high premium place on child bearing, and since in this environment, childbearing is the sole purpose for marriage, infertility or childlessness is socially destabilising for couples.

“Infertility carries several stigmas, causes marital disharmony, divorce, suicide, separation, remarriage, social ostracisation and physical violence against women, even when it is a male factor that is responsible.

“These factors increase the chances of spreading HIV/AIDS.’’
