Uzo-Uwani LGA road gets lion share Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration has awarded contracts for the execution of another set of development projects totaling over N3.2 billion, in keeping with its renewed vigour to provide massive infrastructure in the state. It would be recalled that barely two weeks ago, the state government awarded contracts for urban and rural development projects totaling over N1.7 billion. Rising from a meeting of the State Executive Council, held yesterday, at the EXCO Chambers of the Government House, Enugu, the Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, while briefing newsmen, disclosed that the Council, upon the request from the state’s Rural Access and Mobility Project (RAMP-2), approved the asphalting of 26.665km Ukpabi-Nimbo-Ugbene Ajima-Eziani road in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area at the sum of N1,090,631,422.12. Aroh added that the Council also considered and approved the request from RAMP-2 for asphalting of another inter-community link road, the Neke-Mbu-Ogbodu Aba-Obollo Etiti road - a 22.443 km road that connects Isi-Uzo and Udenu Local Government Area - at the cost of N913,434,678.045. The Information commissioner explained that the Council graciously approved the two roads because of their importance in linking and providing access to multiple communities in line with the rural development policy of the Ugwuanyi administration. Also approved by the Council was award of contract for the construction of the Nsukka Township Stadium (Phase One) at the sum of N996,426,670.80. Aroh added that the Council equally approved remodeling and renovation of the Abuja Building, Government House, to ensure efficient administrative service delivery; construction of fence, pavement, surfacing, landscaping and beautification of the newly constructed State Customary Court of Appeal headquarters, Independence Layout, Enugu and supply of 300 units of bicycles to complement the 260 vehicles as well as motorcycles purchased by the state government for security operations in the rural areas, all totaling over four hundred million naira (N400m). The Information commissioner further added that the Council directed the Ministry of Gender Affairs to relocate all street beggars in Enugu to the state’s Rehabilitation Centre at Emene, for proper upkeep and medical attention “so that these people are properly taken care of and rehabilitated and taken back to the society as proper citizens”. He stated that the Council appraised the outstanding performance of Model Secondary School Nsukka, which emerged the 5th best school in public category in the country, at the recent Federal Government’s educational awards and “approved the institution of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s Award of Excellence to the best primary and secondary schools in the state”. Aroh pointed out that award will be held annually, disclosing that the winners of the secondary school category, across the three senatorial districts of the state, for every year will each receive “a brand new bus from the state government”. The commissioner further disclosed that “the Council approved the immediate purchase of a brand new bus for the Model Secondary School Nsukka, in recognition of their outstanding performance” and “the immediate promotion of the principal of the school, Mr. Obi Ezeugwuorie to Principal Special Grade Level 17, for providing the desired leadership. A day turns two and now, it is over 92 days that a fierce critic of the ruling party, Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata, has been seen or heard about. That’s how long his wife has waited for the person at their doorstep to be him; how long his children have missed his adoring palm cuddle them to sleep on their bedside; and loved ones waited for their phones to ring and his voice is heard from the other side of the phone. That’s the extent of the phycological torture Dadiyata family has had to endure over his mysterious disappearance. And, there is no end in sight to that traumatic experience. No one has owned up to having him even though he was forcibly whisked away right in front of his residence in Barnawa area of Kaduna state. It was on the 2nd of August, 2019 and nothing has been heard about him to date. The premise for his abduction is unclear and whereabouts are unknown. But what is puzzling, is the muted response of the government to the sudden disappearance of Dadiyata. For weeks that the University lecturer is missing, the ruling government, either in Kaduna state or his home state of Kano, has maintained a deafening silence. And that is fuelling theories that Dadiyata’s disappearance may be political. Whether online or offline, Dadiyata was consistent in voicing his disapproval of the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government and bemoaned the trajectory of the country under the ruling party. Times without number, Dadiyata would take to his Twitter page to lament the disturbing surge of poverty among Nigerians and point out bad governance as the underlining cause of the situation facing the country. For him, those in government are not serving the people as they should. He was an example of what good leadership could yield and he wants many other Nigerians to benefit from the opportunity the country offers just like he did. That was why he’s a staunch follower of a former governor of Kano state, Rabiu Kwankwaso, who sponsored him and many other Kano indigenes abroad for education without political considerations. His intention is noble and patriotic. That is what usually irritates him when he noticed poor governance and increasing pressed for a better service for citizens. The essence of any government is to serve the people and if Dadiyata is not impressed, it is within his right as a citizen to voice out. But his voice in demanding better service for the people seemed to have grown so loud that someone is terrified. And the question that agitates many minds including mine is ‘who is terrified by Dadiyata voice’? Those inquisitive minds are well aware of Dadiyata’s calm, friendly and trouble-free personality and were not able to get the motivation for his disappearance. What is more disturbing and painful is the feeling of what his family and loved ones must be passing through. This was obvious when Dadiyata’s wife busted into tears during a telephone interview with Premium Times when she said: “The children have been asking for their father.” No child would not notice their father not being around for over 92 days. But the most disturbing part is when she said: “The Police are telling us they would do their best and we have not been able to get more than that from them”. It’s unimaginable that anyone could just disappearance and after days, the police would still be clueless about where to look or give the family a glimpse of hope. And this was the same Police that the “patrol team led by the DPO quickly moved to the scene but the hoodlums had already escaped with the victim,” and went on to say “the command (Kaduna Police) is currently making efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspected criminals and rescue the victim.” For sometimes now, the manner in which vocal voices have gone missing or arrested on trump up charges have raised great concerns on the tolerance to divergent views. Even more disturbing is the impunity with which those who despise criticisms, abuse their privileges and excessively unleash state apparatus to silence opposing voices by taking them out of circulation. Stories of critics railroaded, harassed, intimidated and hurled into detentions are become frequent, stirring fears on the minds of the people about their safety after speaking. Joseph Odok, Stephen Kefason, and some unknown critics are languishing in prison or detention facilities across the country. Their crimes, just like Dadiyata, are being vocal critics of government policies and asking for better services for the people. But that of Dadiyata is, even more, a nightmare for his family. No one deserves such a traumatic experience and anyone holding Dadiyata should halt that horrible pain. The unending trauma that the people holding Dadiyata has passed on his family is too frightening and this experience must end. A COMMUNIQUE ON PSSMOSA NATIONAL ELECTIONS ISSUED ATTHE END OF AN AGREEMENT REACHED BY MEMBERS OF PSSMOSA WHO HENCEFORTH SHOULD BE REFERRED TO AS R-PSSMOSA. Introduction PSSMOSA is Police Secondary School Minna Old Student Association. R-PSSMOSA is Reformed. The R-PSSMOSA consists of members of different graduated sets of Police Secondary School Minna who have come together as a result of the injustices perpetuated by the electoral committee which conducted the National Elections of PSSMOSA in 2019. The different graduate sets have raised concerns through multiple petitions rejecting the outcome and condemning the process of the elections. As a result, those petitions were collated and all the aggrieved groups decided to come together to form R-PSSMOSA in order to ensure justice and FairPlay, and also to bring an end to the growing culture of corruption which have since overtaken the organization. The National Elections and irregularities. Firstly, we would want to refer to the electoral guideline given to each set by the Electoral Committee; The last point ( clearly stated that “At the end of each set voting, the counting will be done inside the created WhatsApp group and the result for each set will be announced in the set representative WhatsApp group, where all the collation of election result from all set will be made public. The final result will be jointly collated and counted by all set representative, electoral committee, Independent Electoral Observers and winners will be announced”.The above point was however not adhered to (Proof available) Secondly, six votes were cancelled from 2006 set citing reasons to double voting and making statement in the designated WhatsApp group that was meant for voting purpose alone. It could have been accepted by them if only the voters actually deleted any votes they made which was not the case, the comments were posted erroneously as the group name is similar to the set WhatsApp group, upon realizing this, they quickly deleted their comments. Thirdly, it was shocking and disturbing that the chairperson of the electoral committee failed to stand by the glaring truth. She deemed Kazeem Suleiman (2002 set member) ineligible to vote, despite evidence of payment of eligibility dues and a chat conversation confirming details of payment by the financial Secretary. That is ridiculous. Fourthly, we are not satisfied with the composition of the Electoral Committee. It was designed to favor some sets, the five (5) panel of Electoral Committee in which two (2) amongst the committee member are from same set. This will not be accepted as it affects the process of the election and the outcome eventually. However, we recommend questions and answer session for the sake of our Association. If we may ask, WHY did one of the Observers (Major Jafaru Bello) publicly condemned the election and referred to it “a shame”? Submission Consequent to the inactions of the electoral committee to do the right thing, we want to declare the following 1. We reject the National Elections of PSSMOSA held in 2019, in its entirety without any reservation whatsoever. 2. We do not recognize any new leadership, and we want an immediate reconstitution a new electoral committee among neutral persons with through nominations from 7 set representatives. 3. We call for a fresh election to usher in democratically elected leadership under a more cohesive platform which will allow inclusion and transparency. Or even be held in a secret ballot election practically at election ground 4. We also call a mandate to be given at the congress to foster the reform of PSSMOSA to prevent future mismanagement of the organisation. If the following is not done within 72 hours, we shall take further actions that are necessary to ensure that justice will be served. God bless our great Alma-mater. Signed. Hon. Fidelis Isah Mohammed Mubarak. For 1997-2019 set (through the set representative) https://ourdailywire.com/r-pssmosa-rejects-national-election-calls-for-rebirth-of-association/

Ugwuanyi pointed out that no meaningful progress can be made in the implementation of government development agenda without the active collaboration and cooperation of the workers. “As a government, we will continue to do everything that is possible and practicable to sustain the wonderful relationship that currently exists between the state government and the organized labour”, the governor said. While commending the national leadership of NLC for organizing the retreat, the governor noted that such an exercise was central to capacity building, agenda setting and redirecting leadership focus on domestic issues, global trends and challenges of the times. He expressed delight that the retreat brought together the state councils to chart common goals with the national leadership corps in one forum and under the same roof, saying: “I am confident that at the end of the retreat, the participants would be further enriched by the plenary lectures, interactive and policy sessions from the eminent resource persons that the congress has assembled”. In his opening remark, the NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for his presence at the event, his hospitality and the serenity of the state, describing the governor as a labour-friendly governor. He stated that the national leadership retreat was necessitated by the need to for orientation, familiarization and capacity building for the new leadership against the background of the experiences of past years and contemporary happenings. https://dailypost.ng/2019/10/22/ugwuanyi-reiterates-commitment-to-workers-welfare/

…Promises continuous logistic support to security agencies Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State on Monday handed over twenty nine (29) pick-up trucks to the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps and the Department of State Services to assist them in their operations in the state. Other security agencies that benefitted from the state government’s largesse included the Nigerian Airforce, Nigerian Immigration Service, Nigerian Customs Service, Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Federal Road Safety Corps and National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP). Gov. Ugwuanyi, only last week, handed over 65 out of the 100 units of the Innoson vehicles procured and installed with ultra-modern security and communication gadgets by his administration to the Nigeria Police Force, to aid its operations in the state. Handing over the 29 vehicles to the security operatives during a brief ceremony at the Government House, Enugu, Gov. Ugwuanyi said that the gesture was to ensure that the security agencies in the state were well-equipped and well-motivated to effectively and professionally discharge their duties. The governor added that the vehicles and the newly-created Forest Guards were in line with the retooling strategy of the state’s security architecture to meet up with the desired standard and tackle the emerging dimensions of insecurity and criminality in the country. Gov. Ugwuanyi, who promised continuous logistic support for the security agencies, disclosed that the 100 patrol vans were installed with state-of-the-art security systems, adding that 260 motorcycles, 300 bicycles were procured with 18 automated drones for surveillance underway. Update on the ongoing reconstruction of Monarch mini-bridge, off Ugwuaji-Loma Linda-Timber road, Enugu, by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi's administration. The old bridge constructed over two decades ago, which provided access to the highly populated neighbourhood, collapsed at the peak of the rainy season, drawing the attention of the governor who ordered its immediate reconstruction. Christmas, as we all know, is a special occasion when Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ. It is a significant global festival for Christians, which marks the day that God established His kingdom on earth with the birth of Christ Jesus, the Saviour. According to Luke 2:11, “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour which is Christ the Lord.” The charm of Christmas can hardly ever be resisted. It is a season characterised by spiritual and sectarian activities – from masquerade displays to exchange of cards, gifts and sports contests. It is the period when cities wear new colours and rural communities host privileged men and women of honour. In truth, the city offers its dwellers rare opportunities for prosperity just as the countryside revels in its tranquility spiced with that inimitable sense of community and humanity. But notwithstanding those city treasures, the village remains the compelling destination for parents, children and their other relatives at Christmas. In years gone by, the true value of Christmas found vivid expression in the rural communities. This was when natives reconnected with their roots with so much glitz and glamour. While parents held family meetings or entertained guests who had visited to welcome them back to the village, the excited child, in the company of his peers, would scoop mud from the backyard with which he moulded different sizes and types of imaginary creations. On the flip ide, today’s child has his fingers on the computer keyboard or on the telephone, almost oblivious of the world around him. The narrative has also changed for the adults. These days, the Yuletide obsession by families to return to their places of birth has been largely lost to liquidity crisis affecting families and/or the inability of parents to muster the resources needed to cater for the transportation of their loved ones to their places of birth. For indigenes of Enugu State who live in these far-flung Nigerian cities, their story is different. As the 2019 Christmas season draws nearer, their distinct hometowns await their mass return with open arms. It is all thanks to the magnanimity of the governor of Enugu State, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Gburugburu), who, once again, is offering free transportation for the indigenes of the state who live in cities that are far from the Coal City. The governor is only keeping faith with his unbroken gesture of ensuring that willing Enugu State indigenes who reside in other states are brought back home to celebrate Christmas with their kith and kin. By this singular act of deploying government resources to convey those willing to celebrate the Yuletide in their communities, Governor Ugwuanyi was only sustaining his avowed commitment to philanthropy that is authentic and strategic. It is on record that he has continued to offer this yearly Enugu State Free Christmas Transportation package since he ascended the throne at the Lion Building. This year’s package has been further enhanced to cover no less than 20 states and the Federal Capital Territory. The gesture also underlines Governor Ugwuanyi’s enduring commitment to ameliorate the suffering of his people as well as give them a sense of belonging because, as he always says, “Our people are the heroes of democracy and we must do whatever is possible and reasonable to enhance their wellbeing.” From civil servants to traders, teachers, artisans, religious groups and other professional bodies, Ugwuanyi has not wavered in the numerous welfare schemes that cut across different classes and persuasions. As Mr. Bob Itanyi, the managing director of ENTRACO rolls out the finer details of the free Christmas transportation package in earnest, it is gratifying to note that it has aroused wild celebrations across the states where Enugu indigenes reside. Governor Ugwuanyi is, uarguably, a source of inspiration and emulation as he sets the standard on giving back to the society. It is, therefore, not surprising that even as some of his colleagues now strive so hard to emulate his legacy of generosity and putting money into good causes, the governor never ceases to empower his people in different ways. Remarkably, more and more of the population of Enugu State indigenes who reside in other states that were not covered by the previous exercises had been clamouring for their inclusion in this year’s free Christmas transportation programme. And that is, precisely, what the governor has done by extending the offer to many other states within the Nigerian federation. From these states and cities, numerous emotional tributes and words of gratitude that describe Rt. Hon. Ugwuanyi as “the most charitable governor in Nigeria” continue to pour in. Some of the cities earmarked include Abuja, Lagos, Ibadan, Makurdi, Port Harcourt, Jos, Kaduna, Kano, Minna, Ilorin, Gombe, Kebbi, Sokoto and Akure. Others are Zamfara, Jalingo, Lafia, Maiduguri, Bauchi and Damaturu, among others. Today, as this humble servant to the poor moves to bring together members of the various families to celebrate the birthday of Jesus Christ with their loved ones, it rekindles the memories of old and affords the young and the elderly the dream opportunity to reunite with their childhood friends and folks. It requires no power of divination to know that when these Enugu State indigenes besiege the various parks or garages to board the vehicles on their homeward journey, the frenetic noise, the riotous scenes and the big scramble shall serve to highlight the well-known fact that Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi is one ruler who has a soft heart for his people https://www.sunnewsonline.com/free-transportation-ugwuanyis-unbroken-gesture-at-yuletide-sparks-celebrations/ |
…sensitizes them on hand washing The wife of Enugu State Governor, Mrs. Monica Ugwuanyi, has advised parents and guardians to cultivate the culture of healthy living and proper hygiene in their families to reduce the risk of exposing their children and loved ones to communicable diseases. Mrs. Ugwuanyi gave the advice during the event marking this year’s Global Hand Washing Day in Enugu organized by her pet project, Ugo’s Touch of Life Foundation at Amechi Primary School, Awkunanaw, Enugu South Local Government Area. Speaking further, the governor’s wife emphasized the importance of proper hand washing especially among children, stressing that such measure will go a long way to enhance their health status. She added that the theme of the event, “Clean Hands for All” was carefully chosen by her foundation to sensitize school children on proper hygiene and hand washing practices. Mrs. Ugwuanyi, therefore, urged them to always endeavor to wash their hands with soap before and after eating, after easing themselves, before cooking or touching cooking utensils as she also advised them never to clean their hands with towel after washing. The Enugu governor’s wife also harped on the need for enabling environment for children irrespective of their gender disparity, saying: “Time has gone when a girl child was discriminated against in academic pursuit. We are in the 21st century. Every child irrespective of gender is entitled to education”. According to her, “girls should strive to study science courses such as engineering, medicine, mathematics, computer science, among others. This is the era we call STEM, which means, Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics. Girls should strive to study medicine and shun the previous phobia entrenched in these courses”. In his address, the President-General of Amechi, Awkuwanaw and former Commissioner for Environment, Hon. John Egbo, lauded Mrs. Ugwuanyi for her commitment to the wellbeing of the people of the state especially women, children and vulnerable groups. Hon. Egbo equally applauded Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the development projects his administration has executed in the area, such as the ongoing construction of Amechi and Amechi Uno bridge, noting that the gesture will go a long way to enhance their living standard. He went further to commend the governor for the effective measures being put in place by his administration to strengthen the security of the state and protect lives and property. “We are happy to welcome Her Excellency to Amechi for this hand washing day event. Your Excellency, God will continue to bless you and your husband. His Excellency has done a lot for us. Our security guards are working; our neighborhood watch members are working; our place is secured and the police are also patrolling. Work is ongoing at the bridge linking us with Amechi Uno. Gov. Ugwuanyi has truly done much for us”. Enugu State is truly in the hands of God. ##

By Louis Amoke https://dailypost.ng/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/Ugwuanyi.jpg The recent decisions by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration to restore the Enugu urban master-plan, construct pedestrian bridges and overlay major roads in the city, among other interventions, are not only bold initiatives but also positive steps towards reinvigorating and upgrading the state capital for socio-economic expansion. These actions demonstrate the governor’s political will to advance good governance and further enhance the development structure of Enugu City, to sustain its enviable status as the historical capital of Eastern Nigeria, East Central State, old Anambra and Enugu State and the capital of the present Enugu State. The initiatives which were part of the outcome of the maiden meeting of the newly-inaugurated State Executive Council have set a new agenda for rapid development in line with the governance strategy of the state government towards ensuring that Enugu continues to receive deserved attention as one of the oldest and finest state capitals in the country. Undoubtedly, the new policy direction is deeply heartwarming, especially to the urban inhabitants, considering the fact that the state government, through its rural development policy, in the last four years, had concentrated massive development more in the rural areas than in urban centres. The grassroots development programme of the Ugwuanyi administration, which is novel in the annals of the state, was a deliberate strategy to break the barrier of development imbalance that had existed between the urban and rural dwellers in order to create more urban centres for socio-economic expansion as well as give the larger population of the state a sense of belonging. It would be recalled that Gov. Ugwuanyi, in his first term’s inaugural address, stated that his administration will “pay a special attention to rural development because majority of our people live in the rural areas”. He added that the state government will create more urban areas to boost economic growth. In keeping with this sound vision, Ugwuanyi’s administration, in the past four years, through its grassroots development initiatives, executed massive development projects which were concentrated largely in the rural areas, remembering long neglected communities, such Amurri, Eha-Amufu, Uzo-Uwani, among others. For instance, prior to Ugwuanyi’s administration, 13 out of 16 wards in Uzo-Uwani LGA could not access their council headquarters in Umuluokpa because of bad road. The federal road connecting Enugu and Ebonyi State, through Eha Amufu, in Isi-Uzo LGA, was neglected for over 36 years, until it was recently rehabilitated to standard by the Ugwuanyi administration. Today, the people of Amurri in Nkanu West LGA await the commencement of the second phase of their road, after the Ugwuanyi administration constructed the first phase for a community that has never experienced any form of development on its land in the past 100 years. The rural development strategy such as the “One Community, One Project” scheme also ensured that every community had one project or another according to their priority. Out of about 550 kilometers of roads covered so far in the state, over 65 percent was executed in the rural areas. For the majority of the rural dwellers, especially those who had not seen asphalted roads or other development projects in their communities until the enthronement of the present administration, it was indeed a dream come true as they do not only enjoy good road network today which has reconnected them to larger society for socio-economic growth, they also have access to other government facilities that make life more meaningful. The outcome of the maiden council meeting which centered government’s development attention on Enugu City, coupled with the inauguration of the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA) for the restoration of the Enugu urban master-plan, therefore reinvigorated the governor’s steadfastness to strike a balance and give the state capital the facelift it deserves to compete favorably among its contemporaries. Recall that the Ugwuanyi administration has taken measures to sustain the glory of Enugu City, through reconstruction and maintenance of urban roads and other facilities; engagement of 1000 youths (additional 1,000 underway) to clean up the state; rehabilitation of historical government structures such as the popular Michael Okpara Square, Enugu, State House of Assembly Complex, Zik’s Residence, as well as the ongoing completion of the Enugu International Conference Centre, among others. On the planned overlay of major roads in Enugu City, constructed by past administrations, which entails the application of hot rolled asphaltic wearing course on the existing ones with other technical considerations, the aim is to increase the durability of the roads to last for a longer time and serve the public better. The comprehensive maintenance is comparatively cheap, considering the enormous resources being spent yearly by the present administration to repair potholes being created on the roads every rainy season as a result of persistent rains. The planned overlay, therefore, will also beautify the roads and add value to the aesthetic of the state capital as a modern city founded over a century ago. The State Commissioner for Information, Nnanyelugo Chidi Aroh, while briefing newsmen on the said overlay, alongside the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Greg Nnaji, stated that the project was in addition to the ongoing repairs of identified potholes in Enugu urban and intercity roads. Speaking further, the Information commissioner disclosed that the approved construction of three pedestrian bridges in Enugu urban to be located at Ogbete Main Market, Enugu, by Holy Ghost Cathedral, Garki Awkunanaw and Mayor Bus-stop by Agbani Road, was to ensure safety of pedestrians, free traffic and orderliness. Inaugurating the 14-man Enugu Master-plan Enforcement Authority, headed by his former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh as the Executive Chairman, Gov. Ugwuanyi directed them to immediately commence enforcement of full development control in Enugu Capital Territory, in line with “relevant extant laws and the need for biodiversity conservation and ecosystem balance.” Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that the enforcement authority “was constituted in line with a deliberate choice of the state government to enhance the glory of Enugu as the former capital of Eastern Nigeria, East Central State, old Anambra and Enugu State as well as the present Enugu State”. The governor maintained that Enugu deserves an enhanced serene ambience to be able to offer the full compliments of urban triangle; a place to live, work and play. He also pointed out that the serenity of Enugu City is one of the state’s greatest assets that must be jealously guarded, directing members of the enforcement body that “you must therefore halt and begin to reverse the contraptions of building approvals pervading Enugu Capital Territory”. According to him, “Enugu Capital Territory must sustain its ranking as a destination of choice in real estate investment. We expect nothing less from you. “I must emphasize, as always, that your loyalty as public officers should be to God and the state. You must at all times be seen to pursue honesty, transparency, accountability, equity, justice, fairness and unalloyed commitment to your duty in the course of your service to this state. “The roles may be different but we are united in the objective - to alleviate the sufferings of our people and put smiles on their faces and these we must do in fulfillment of our contract with Ndi Enugu”. Other far reaching decisions taken at the maiden council meeting, aimed at ensuring the serenity and security of the state, which have received the commendations of the state workers and other stakeholders, were the approval for the purchase of eighteen (18) automated drones for surveillance within and outside the state for effective security management and ratification of earlier approval given by the last State Executive Council on May 28, 2019, for the purchase of one hundred (100) units of Innoson patrol vans to enhance the capabilities of the security agencies in the state. The council equally ratified the approval for the purchase of 260 vehicles as well as motorcycles and bicycles to be handed over to Forest Guards, Neighborhood Watch groups, among others, for community policing. The security vehicles, according to Aroh, have been supplied and are being installed with communication gadgets and other security facilities for maximum effectiveness. Only on Tuesday, 65 out of the 100 patrol vans were handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at the Government House, Enugu, where the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmad Abdulrahman who received the vehicles on behalf of the Inspector General of Police, Adamu Mohammed Abubakar, commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for “this wonderful gesture”, describing the governor as “an unassuming personality, a symbol of peaceful co-existence and the architect of modern security in Enugu State”. Reacting, workers in the state through the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) applauded the governor for the sustained efforts of his administration “towards reducing crime to the barest minimum in the state”. They also lauded him for the ongoing road maintenance in Enugu metropolis and its environs; recruitment of 1,700 Forest Guards; planned deployment of automated drones; purchase of vehicles, motorcycles and bicycles and most importantly his spirit of patriotism in patronizing an indigenous vehicle manufacturing company, Innoson Group, to assist the security agencies in their operations. Expressing satisfaction, the state’s workers, declared that the security measures have contributed immensely “in keeping crime at a very low rate in Enugu State and the sustenance of the position of the state as the most peaceful state in Nigeria”. From the foregoing, Gov. Ugwuanyi has adroitly addressed the interlinking complexities of human security and inclusive development and delivered a winning formular in Enugu State. He simply deserves the warmth and support of his constituents and key stakeholders. No wonder he is getting them – with a lot of appreciation and enthusiasm. Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State yesterday inaugurated the Enugu Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), headed by his former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties, Dr. Josef Umunnakwe Onoh as the Executive Chairman.
