BusinessOgbete Market Fire: Police Says No Casualty Was Recorded In The Inferno by OEPHIUS(op): 6:32am On Jan 04, 2020
The Enugu State Police Command said on Friday that no life or property was lost in the fire outbreak that occurred at the mattress section of Ogbete Main Market in the state capital.

The Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Ebere Amaraizu, told journalists that the fire was first noticed in a shop at the foam section of the market at 3:30 p.m.

Amaraizu said the fire started from a faulty small generating set in the shop.

He said: “The fire and fume from the faulty generating set were put off by public-spirited traders.

“As I speak to you, no life or property was lost in the entire incident.”

The command’s spokesman, however, urged social media speculators and those that magnify incidents out of proportion to have a change of heart this New Year.

“I wonder what one wants to gain by raising an unfounded alarm or escalating minor issues,’’ he said.

The state’s Chief Fire Officer, Okwudili Ohaa, who came with a fire-fighting truck to the market, lauded the traders for putting out the fire at its nursery state. (NAN)

PoliticsMaria Amadi: Youths Protest Against Ultimatum To Release Nurse's Killers by OEPHIUS(op): 1:14pm On Jan 03, 2020
A coalition of youth organizations in Enugu State, under the auspices of Enugu Youth Coalition for Good Governance, has berated a purported group of civil society organizations in the state for giving the state government a 14-day ultimatum to release the three suspects in the murder of Mrs. Maria Amadi, the former head of nursing services, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Enugu.
In a statement by the coordinator of the youth coalition and the Executive Chairman, National Youth Council of Nigeria, Enugu State Chapter, Comrade Paschal Ugwu, the group disclosed that the murder case is in court and subjudice.
Describing the 14-day ultimatum to the state government as baseless, diversionary and mere shadow-chasing, the youth group warned the purported CSOs to respect the rule of law and allow justice to take its course, adding that any attempt to divert attention and mischievously ridicule the state government’s commitment to justice will be firmly resisted.
The youth stated that that the “kangaroo” ultimatum was the handiwork of those who are afraid of justice and have skeletons in their cupboards, wondering why they should not allow the judiciary and the security agencies carry out their due responsibilities, according to the law and constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Reacting to the threat by the purported CSOs - the group led by Comrade Igboke Onyebuchi - to embark on a protest if the three persons accused and detained over the murder of the nurse are not released after the expiration of the two-week ultimatum, the youth group warned them to desist from any act that could undermine the existing peace and tranquility in the state.

According to the youth coalition, “Enugu youths view this latest show of shame by this concocted coalition of civil society organizations’ group being mischievously propelled by one Igboke Onyebuchi as a charade and a diversionary measure to evade justice - we cannot allow this to happen.

“We, therefore, warn the originators of this baseless ultimatum to allow justice to take its course and stop bringing Enugu State government into this matter as it is neither the judiciary nor the police that are prosecuting the murder case in a competent court of law. We urge the state government to remain focused and undaunted in its resolve to support and promote the course of justice in Enugu State.

“We support the demand for justice by the late Mrs. Amadi’s family, the members of National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives, Enugu State Chapter, including the Joint Health Sector Union and Association of Resident Doctors, among other concerned bodies and individuals.”

...Parades arrested woman

The Enugu State Police Command has rescued a maid, Peace Goewam, captured in a viral video where she was being traumatized by her madam.

In the video, which elicited angry reactions from Nigerians, the woman, Mrs. Amaka Ortolehi, from Ngor-Okpala, Imo State, was seen maltreating the maid in most heartless manner.

The incident, our correspondent gathered, led the Enugu State Police Commissioner, Ahmad Abdulrahman into launching a manhunt for her.

Addressing journalists at the State Police Command, the Commissioner said "when I viewed the viral video, it was an eyesore.

"I gave order to my technical officers and anti-cult team. This eventually led to her arrest, alongside her husband Nkemakolam Ortolehi.

"We also arrested Mr. Jonathan Goewan, the uncle to the victim, who out of greed brought her to Enugu from Jos and probably sold her to this wicked family
.

"Irrationally, she held her own daughter who she had affection for but was thrusting this very girl on the ground as if she was killing a fowl."

He added that "we protected and rescued the girl and she is going be to handed over to a government agency that will take care of her till we trace her parents.

"They will come down and tell us why they divorced this girl from them; as for the uncle, he has no satisfactory answer, so we are suspecting fowl play.

"This is typical example of Child Abuse, child labour, torture and man's inhumanity to man."

The Police Commissioner vowed that all those involved in one way or the other in the girl child's ordeal would be prosecuted and appropriate punishment meted on them.

Meanwhile, Mrs. Ortelehi has blamed the devil for her actions.

Speaking with newsmen amidst tears, she said "I don't know what came over me. I don't treat her in such manner before. You can enquire from her school, you can ask our neighbours.

"This is not how we have been living, I'm a lover of children, all come to my house. Anger put me into this, I love Peace, we have been living together for two years, this is just something that went out of the ordinary."

PoliticsChristmas: Lawan, Gbajabiamila, Ugwuanyi, Others Urge Nigerians To Embrace Love, by OEPHIUS(op): 9:19am On Dec 25, 2019
The President of the Senate, Ahmad Lawan, has asked Nigerians to embrace peace, love, tolerance and self-sacrifice, which were the hallmark of the teachings of Jesus Christ.

In a Christmas message he released on Tuesday, he said beyond religion, the messages brought by Christ are important in nation-building and development.
Mr Lawan asked Nigerians, as a people and government, to remember the weak and the most vulnerable “in our midst and do the best we can to bring them succour and help them to also feel the joy of the season.”

He reiterated the ninth National Assembly’s commitment to deliver its legislative agenda.

“The amendment to the Deep Off-shore and Inland Basin Production Sharing Contracts Act, the Fiscal Policy laws, Procurement Act and the timely passage of the 2020 Budget, which was promptly assented to by the President, signpost the determination of the Assembly to work for Nigerians.

“The modest achievements of the Assembly within the short period were made possible by the bi-partisan approach to national issues by the Federal lawmakers, the collaboration and harmonious relationship with other arms of government.”
Speaker’s message

On his part, Femi Gbajabiamila, Speaker of the House of Representatives, in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Lanre Lasisi, felicitated with Nigerian Christians for marking this year’s Christmas.

He called for sober reflections among Nigerians. He also urged them to offer special prayers to their leaders, “for the continuous unity and peaceful coexistence among the citizens and to overcome challenges of insecurity in some parts of the country”.

“Christmas is a period of merrymaking, but beyond that, it is also a period for us all as a people to take time and pray for our country. I admonish my Christian brothers and sisters to pray for our continuous survival in peace and unity as a country,” his statement read.

“I also urge them to emulate all that Jesus Christ stood for: his love for humanity, his peace-making nature, his magnanimity, his accommodating mind and everything the Christ was known for.”
Other messages

Meanwhile, a former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, in a goodwill message issued by Uche Anichukwu, his media aide, called for renewed collaboration among Nigerians.

“This season is therefore a call to show unconditional love, for we cannot claim to love God if we do not show love to our fellow men created in the image and likeness of God.

“As Africans, we must endeavor to sustain our social security system and the culture of being our brother’s keeper to ensure that nobody is left behind.”

In a similar message, Rafiu Ajakaye, the Chief Press Secretary to the Kwara State governor, Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, admonished Nigerians to eschew discrimination, irrespective of differences in tribe, religion and sociopolitical leanings.

“We call on Nigerians, especially Kwarans, to do more to foster love and peace this season and beyond because a major selling point of the state is the calm and peaceful disposition of our people. We also call for continuous mutual respect and understanding within the faith community and not allow anyone to cause disaffection in the state.”

Mr Abdulrazaq also called for modesty while the festive session lasts.
In his Christmas message, Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State called on Nigerians to take advantage of the religious event to offer special prayers for sustained peace, unity and progress of the country.

Mr Ugwuanyi felicitated with his fellow Christian faithful, wishing ‘Ndi Enugu’ and indeed all Nigerians Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

The governor noted that the festive season offers yet another opportunity for the people to promote peace, good virtues, love and unity as well as dedicate their lives to the service of God.

He, therefore, thanked Ndi Enugu for their love, unceasing prayers, goodwill, solidarity and support, reassuring them of his firm resolve to sustain the tempo of peace and good governance in the state as well as continue to serve them with the fear of God.

Indigenes of Enugu State residing in other parts of the country who returned home for the festive season through the free transportation programme offered to them by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration have expressed deep appreciation to the governor for his magnanimity and commitment to the wellbeing of the people.

A cross section of the beneficiaries who returned safely from Zamfara and Jigawa State, said they were delighted and proud of Gov. Ugwuanyi for extending such a rare gesture to them to celebrate the festive season with their loved ones.

The jubilant returnees disclosed that they had lost hope of coming home for the festivity because of economic challenges and high transport fare until they received the news of the state government’s free transportation offer.

They stated that Gov. Ugwuanyi’s administration has been consistent with the free transportation programme, stressing that the gesture was a demonstration of his unique leadership style, benevolence, caring spirit and commitment to the wellbeing of his people.

The visibly excited indigenes, who said they had a smooth journey, appreciated God for the safe trip, asking Him to continue to bless the governor and enrich him with more wisdom and grace to take the state to greater heights.

Speaking, Mrs. Mary Udeh, a returnee from Zamfara State said: “We are grateful to God Almighty for a safe trip, all the way from Zamfara State. It was a long journey and the transport fare from Zamfara to Enugu is very high. So, most of us had no hope of returning home for this Christmas and New Year.

“But as God may have it, our caring governor remembered us as usual and made it possible for us to be here to see our family members and celebrate this Christmas with them. It is a good thing that Gburugburu (Ugwuanyi) made us to feel at home. We are grateful to him and the people he used to make this possible. May the good Lord continue to bless him and his family. We will continue to pray for him and speak well of him.

Another beneficiary, Mr. Joseph Mbah, a returnee from Jigawa State, while thanking the state government for adding the state to the benefiting states said: “This is a great surprise to all of us here who returned from Jigawa State. We did not pay any transport fare to arrive here. It is a surprise because we have not heard of any state that is offering such free transportation to their people who are residing with us in Jigawa State.

“Our governor, Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, has proved to us that he is caring governor; that he is a kind-hearted leader who thinks of the wellbeing of his people everywhere they are. He has saved me over sixty thousand naira (N60,000), which I would have spent to transport my family back home.

“It is not even about the money alone, it is about his concern and the sense of belonging he has given to us, that even though we are not here physically, his government recognizes us. So, on behalf of everybody in this bus, I say a very big thank you to Gburugburu, our good governor”.

According to Mrs. Ngozi Eke, another returnee from Zamfara State, “we are so happy and thank him (Ugwuanyi) for assisting us come back home for Christmas. We have heard a lot about his good works and kindness to people. The free transportation has been a great help to me and my entire family. We say a big thank you to him. May God continue to bless him. Amen”.

PoliticsInvest In Enugu, Ugwuanyi Tells Indigenes, Investors by OEPHIUS(op): 6:27pm On Dec 23, 2019
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State has called on indigenes of the state especially those residing outside and all legitimate businessmen and investors to think Enugu in their investment decisions as his administration has provided the conducive environment for business to thrive.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who spoke during the inauguration of an ultra modern truck park at Ugwuoba, Gariki Market in Oji River Local Government Area, developed by an indigene of the community based in Ghana, Chief Sunday Ikwumeleze, maintained that his administration has invested a lot in repositioning Enugu as a destination of choice for genuine investors.

The governor congratulated the developer for his wise decision in investing in the project with his “hard earned resources” as well as his “faith and confidence in our operating environment”.

Noting that the investment will benefit the state, the council area and the people, socially and economically, Gov. Ugwuanyi stressed that the business venture will not only decongest the Enugu-Onitsha expressway and ease the flow of traffic, but also create jobs and wealth for the people of the state.

He added that the state government will continue to function as investment enabler through provision of secure operating environment for business to thrive, consistent and favourable policies, facilitation of all bureaucratic processes for starting and doing business, friendly tax regime and professional regulatory oversight role, among others.

His words: “Our administration has invested a lot of time and energy to position Enugu as a destination of choice for genuine investors. Our progress in this direction is self-evident in the leapfrogging of our state from its 2014 World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking as 27th out of 37 states (including FCT, Abuja), to an enviable ranking as the 2nd State in Ease of Starting Business and 3rd State in Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria in the 2018 World Bank Ease of Doing Business sub-national ranking for which our State was honoured on 3rd April, 2019 by the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council at Abuja”.

Earlier, the Transition Committee Chairman of Oji River LGA, Barr. Frank Udemezue, commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for approving the project, stating that it was a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to promoting business investment in the state through the entrenchment of peace and good governance.

The chairman, who noted that the economic importance of the park was enormous considering its location at the border between Enugu and Anambra State, added that the investment will create direct and indirect jobs, put an end to indiscriminate parking of trucks along Enugu-Onitsha expressway and enhance the security of the area.

Speaking, the developer appreciated Gov. Ugwuanyi for his support and presence at the event, disclosing that he keyed into the investment through the advice of the immediate past chairman of the council, Hon. Harrison Okeke, who he said initiated the project.

In his goodwill message, a chieftain of the state and indigene of Oji River LGA, Chief Gbazuagu Nweke Gbazuagu, thanked the governor for his humility, peace initiatives and uncommon leadership style, which he said have made it possible for business to thrive in the state.

He also applauded Chief Ikwumeleze, for thinking home by constructing the “magnificent park”, and reassured him that his investment will succeed.

PoliticsAppreciating Ugwuanyi’s Unique Governance Footing At Christmas by OEPHIUS(op): 5:54am On Dec 23, 2019
By Louis Amoke

Recently, former President Goodluck Jonathan was in Enugu, to deliver a lecture at the 10th anniversary celebration of Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu. The former President’s visit to Enugu reechoed a fundamental aspect of governance structure of the state, where Rt. Hon. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi holds sway as the governor.

The former President who was treated to a dinner by Gov. Ugwuanyi, at the Government House, Enugu, after the event at the university, expressed delight at the uncommon leadership style of the governor in fostering peace and unity among the political class in the state, irrespective of party differences.

Jonathan described Gov. Ugwuanyi as a man of peace pointing out that his disposition in relating with members of the opposition political parties, after winning the election, was commendable and the best approach to governance. He maintained that such multi-partisanship and inclusive governance style were rare feats other leaders should emulate to move their constituencies forward.

According to him, “If you are the governor of a state, you must treat all the citizens equally, irrespective of their political persuasions; otherwise you are not a good governor”. The ex-President who also spoke about Ugwuanyi’s swelling popularity, urged members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state to continue to encourage the governor in his peace initiatives, stressing that “we need peace and unity if we want rapid development”.

On the governor’s performance during the last election, Jonathan also expressed delight that Ugwuanyi scored higher percentage of votes (95.54 percent) in his second term election than in the first term, stating that it was unprecedented in the annals of the country.

A few weeks after the former President bared his mind on Ugwuanyi’s unique governance footing, the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Rev. Fr. Ejike Mbaka, described the governor as a rare, God-fearing leader who has continued to lead the state with uncommon zeal, passion and humility even after his re-election.

Fr. Mbaka who spoke when Gov. Ugwuanyi, accompanied by his deputy, Mrs. Cecilia Ezeilo, other elected public office holders at the state and national levels, leadership of the state Judiciary, Prince Engr. Arthur Eze, members of the State Executive Council (EXCO), state leadership and members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), various support groups, among others, offered a special thanksgiving to God at the Adoration Ministry for his landslide victory at the last governorship election, stated that “it is only a humble man who will do this”.

Relating the gesture to the story of ten lepers who were healed by Jesus Christ in which one of them came back to appreciate God, Fr. Mbaka said: “I want to thank God for giving us a man with this kind of gold heart”, stating that “Enugu has never had it like this”.

The priest pointed out that the thanksgiving Mass was unique, unprecedented and a true reflection of what Gov. Ugwuanyi represents, as a humble, peaceful, visionary and God-fearing leader.

Fr. Mbaka further explained that the thanksgiving Mass was also to thank God that the entire elections in Enugu State were adjudged the most peaceful and hitch-free in the country, adding that “we have all gathered here because of our governor, to give honour to whom honour is due and appreciate his good leadership”.

The spiritual director applauded the governor for his sustained efforts in securing the state and providing more dividends of democracy to the people after his re-election, disclosing that “many governors do not work in their second term”.

The cleric therefore commended the governor for continuing with his massive infrastructural development across the state as well as other remarkable achievements such as payment of the 13th month salary to all civil servants and staff of MDAs in the state as Christmas bonus, which he said was not obtainable in other states of the country.

He equally lauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his humility, passion for the wellbeing of the people, especially the poor, “his kind-heartedness and for being a father to his people”.

Proclaiming that the governor “will go higher than this level”, the Spiritual Director reassured him of the unceasing prayers of the ministry, advising him to continue with his good works.

“This is my son, please let him sustain his good works. Good name is better than silver and gold. Keep your good works up. You will be a free and happy man after office. God will be with you”, the cleric said.

Frankly, it is undisputed that Gov. Ugwuanyi in this second term administration, as Fr. Mbaka rightly opined, has not only increased the pace of delivery of democracy dividends to the people of the state but has also remained a Godly, peaceful, humble and visionary leader, committed to the wellbeing of his people.

The governor, through the state government’s continuous award of contracts for infrastructural development and numerous interventions in other spheres of the economy, such as security, health, education, agriculture, welfare, among others, has not lost focus of where his administration is headed, in terms of deploying “government services to create fair and equal opportunity for every willing citizen to make a living and create wealth, educate our children, and enjoy life in a peaceful and secure environment”.

Presently, residents and indigenes of the state residing in other parts of the country who are returning home to celebrate the festive season with their loved ones are enjoying free transportation offered by the Ugwuanyi administration, in the spirit of Christmas.

A few days ago, Gov. Ugwuanyi was at the Hallowed Chambers of the State House of Assembly to present the 2020 budget proposal of N169.56 billion for consideration and passage.

The budget proposal, which was tagged: “Budget of Responsive and Accountable Governance”, was designed to strategically consolidate and expand on the solid foundation already laid in creating an environment that encourages full development of human and natural resources. The essence, according to the governor, was to rekindle social services as well as build vital infrastructure in all sectors of the economy across the state.

It is interesting to note that the appropriation bill aptly captured the implementation of the recommendations of the twelve (12) sectoral ad-hoc committees, constituted at the inception of Ugwuanyi’s second term administration, on review of different sectors of governance for advancement of good governance and optimized service delivery.

Presenting the budget, Ugwuanyi disclosed that his administration has in the past four years maintained steady economic growth, which was largely because of political stability in the state, stronger and more efficient institutions of governance, improved security of lives and property, provision of critical infrastructure, consistent economic policy and commitment to fiscal discipline.

He added that the revenue and expenditure performance in the 2019 budget was a huge success as his administration recorded unique achievements in infrastructure, education, health, electrification, security, urban beautification, transport, water, women and youth empowerment, commerce, industry and housing among others.

The governor explained that the proposed N169.56 billion budget size was 55.27% higher than the 2019 budget of N109.199 billion and has a whopping capital expenditure of N100.77 billion, representing 59.43% of the budget, because of “our continuing commitment to meeting the development expectations of our people through the provision of critical infrastructure in virtually all the sectors”.

On the highlights of the key deliverables of the 2020 capital budget, Gov. Ugwuanyi, stated that the state government, among numerous legacy projects, plans to construct the first Enugu Underpass/Flyover at Nike Lake Resort/Nike Road T-junction, Enugu, construct and reconstruct more urban and rural roads, upgrade and remodel the Hotel Presidential, Enugu as well as enhance facilities at Nike Lake Resort and complete the construction, landscaping and furnishing of the International Conference Center (ICC), Enugu.

He also listed the reconstruction of Michael Okpara Square, Enugu with provision of additional pavilions, construction of Adada Campus of Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) Nsukka, operationalization of the Enugu Medical Diagnostic Centre and full implementation of the Universal Health Coverage in the state, establishment of Small and Medium Scale Industries in the 17 LGAs and the upgrading and revitalization of Primary Health Care facilities across the 17 council areas to ensure quick and easy access to healthcare delivery in the remote villages, among others.

From the foregoing, the assertion that Gov. Ugwuanyi, after his reelection, has remained humble, visionary and steadfast in his resolve to fully actualize the policy thrust of his administration for the wellbeing of the people, unlike most reelected public office holders, speaks volumes of his unique posture on governance and the stuff he is made of as an exemplary leader.

Part of the decisions of the council, according to the commissioner, was the appointment of a marketing consultant for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of Enugu Rangers International Football Club, adding that the Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Hon. Peter Okonkwo as Chairman and Mr. Ike Celestine Ezugwu as General Manager of the agency.

Other members of the inaugurated board include, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Chijioke Edeoga, representative of Advertisement Practitioners Council of Nigeria (APCON), Mr. Ikechukwu Onu, representatives of Outdoor Advertising Agency of Nigeria (OAAN), Mr. Chobby Eneh and Mr. Uche Ekwueme, and Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas.

Inaugurating the board at the Government House, Enugu, Gov. Ugwuanyi, represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Prof. Simon Uchenna Ortuanya, emphasized the crucial role of advertising in the socio-economic development of the society.

The governor pointed out that there has been loss of revenue and deterioration of advertising in the state because of the activities of quacks and flagrant abuses of regulations, stressing that “advertising practitioners have engaged in sharp practices and Enugu metropolis and other semi-urban cities have been defaced with billboards”.

He therefore charged the new board to regulate and control advertising in the state, ensure that advertising practitioners operate professionally, responsibly and ethically, ensure the ambience that advertisement creates and restore the beauty of the state capital and its environs, among others.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who disclosed that the members of the board were selected based on their track records as professionals, stated they are expected to bring their wealth of experience to bear in ensuring the improvement of advertising practice in the state.

Earlier in his speech, the Chairman of the board and Commissioner for Local Government Affairs, Barr. Okonkwo, said the state government’s decision to constitute the agency was “because of the public outcry on double taxation, flagrant abuse of advertising principles in the state and the need to integrate and regulate all the activities of the practitioners”.

He added that all the Chairmen of the 17 Local Government Areas of the state were included in the integration “so that a synergy will be created whereby a unified agency will oversee the activities of these issues”.

On his part, the Commissioner for Environment, Hon. Edeoga, commended the governor for the bold initiative which he said was the first of its kind in the entire South East and South South geo-political zones.

“We have an agency like this in Lagos and it is making a lot of changes with regard to discipline in the erection of billboards and signage as well as the chaos that characterize such acts”, he said.

The environment commissioner expressed confidence that the agency’s positive impact will be felt in the state, stressing the need for collaboration between the state government and the local government, which he was constitutionally responsible for advertisements, for business to thrive in the state.

Responding, the General Manager of the agency, Mr. Ezugwu, thanked Gov. Ugwuanyi for finding them worthy “to be in this particular agency”, maintaining that “the state of outdoor advertising in the state is nothing to write home about”.

Noting that their appointment was a demonstration of the trust and confidence the governor repose in them, the General Manager promised they will deliver on the assignment satisfactorily.

“We have done a lot to make Enugu a destination of choice for credible investors. Under my watch, Enugu State has transited from its 2014 World Bank Ease of Doing Business ranking as 27th out of 37 States (including FCT, Abuja), to an enviable ranking as the 2nd State in Ease of Starting Business and 3rd State in Ease of Doing Business in Nigeria in the 2018 World Bank Ease of Doing Business sub-national ranking. PoliticsEnugu IGR Increase, Fallout Out Of Ugwuanyi’s Measures - ESIRS by OEPHIUS(op):
The Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS) has attributed the sustainable increase in the state’s Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) to the well-thought-out measures adopted by Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration.

Speaking during the taxpayers’ sensitization and enlightenment programme organized by the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service (ESIRS) in conjunction with the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, held at Enugu, the Chairman of ESIRS, Prince Emeka Odo, disclosed that the state government “has been implementing a cocktail of measures designed to make tax payment easier for tax payers in the state”.

The chairman stated that the event, which also witnessed the investiture of the State Accountant-General, Sir. Paschal Okolie, as Chairman, Enugu and District Society, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria, was to deepen the relationship between the tax authority and tax payers.

Odo noted that Ugwuanyi’s administration has been implementing “an ambitious four-point development agenda” aimed at impacting positively on the lives of the people, stressing that such feat requires that government harnesses all the potential sources of internally generated revenues in the state without additional pressure on the people.

The chairman added that it was in the light of the above that the agency in conjunction with other related agencies of government embarked on the programme for effective result.

He disclosed that the revenue generation measures adopted by the state government include, early adoption of Treasury Single Account (TSA) platform for accounting system, direct bank lodgment system, restructuring and strengthening of the revenue agency, automating of all revenue generating MDAs, vigorous tax payers’ enlightenment programmes in the media and streamlining of overlapping laws to address the issue of multiple taxation.

Odo who revealed that voluntary tax compliance in the state has been on the increase as a result of the state government adopted measures, added that “it has also reflected positively on the IGR figures of the state which has risen progressively from about N14 billion in 2016 to N22 billion last year”. He said that “the figure for this year is expected to be much higher than that of last year”.

Also speaking, the Commissioner for Finance, Mrs. Adaonah Kene-Uyanwune, pointed out that tax matters are collective responsibility aimed at generating more revenues to the state for rapid development and socio-economic growth.

Maintaining that tax administrators, practitioners and payers are major players in taxation, the finance commissioner stressed that without taxation government will not meet up with its obligations to the public.

Mrs. Uyanwune stated that the era of focusing attention on oil as major source of government revenue is over, enjoining the public to always pay their tax for them to continue enjoying meaningful developments.

She, therefore, applauded Gov. Ugwuanyi for his untiring efforts in repositioning the state Internal Revenue Service as well as the revenue agency for achieving an enviable landmark in revenue generation for the state.

BusinessWhy The EFCC Is Hounding Allen Onyeama, Air Peace CEO - Leaders.ng by OEPHIUS(op): 6:36pm On Dec 11, 2019
Things are falling apart for Allen Onyeama and Air Peace, the US Department of Justice have indicted him for money laundering while Nigeria’s EFCC has launched an investigation into the books of one of Nigeria’s leading Airline Company.

In a game of names and conspiracies, new facts have emerged which point to the reality that the Jonathans, Mr. Timi Alaibe, former Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commision and Kingsley Kuku, former Chairman of The Presidential Amnesty Program to former President Jonathan are the real owners of Nigerian Airline, Airpeace Nigeria LTD.

WHERE THE MONEY CAME FROM

Kingsley Kuku during his time as Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Program converted his office as a fund raising scheme, and indeed the funds were raised. Several billions of unaccounted tax payers money were stolen from the Amnesty program, and when Kingsley Kuku’s time as Chairman was over, a clearly orchestrated arson was committed at the accounts records office of the Presidential Amnesty Office to erase all trace of theft and fraud, a well thought out plan, a well executed plan. But the eyes of Nigeria’s anti graft commissions were already on him, and he fled to the U.S. before he could answer to EFCC’s questions about a N6.2bn contract, he has been on exile since 2015.

THE FRONT – ALLEN ONYEAMA.

Allen Onyema, the publicly known owner of Air Peace was a legal practitioner based in Lagos until 2013 when Air Peace was inaugurated. He was not a business man who had build successful empires over time, he had no digital or analogue record of successful business ventures. In 2013, he had successfully obtained the permits to set up what would eventually be Nigeria’s biggest airline company from nothing.

The US Department of Justice a few weeks ago indicted Mr Onyeama for fraud and money laundering, apparently more people have began to ask the question “Where did Mr Allen get the funds to set up Air Peace from?”

Private investigations have revealed that Air Peace and “Mama Peace”, the nickname of Former First Lady, Patience Jonathan are no different from rain and water.

It has been gathered that Patience Goodluck Jonathan popular known as ‘Mama Peace’ who personally recommended the name ‘Air Peace Nigeria’. Patience Jonathan who had wanted her face to be behind the then newly founded airline was advised against it as it would have far reaching consequences on political optics seeing as Goodluck Jonathan made no attempt to revive the nation’s national Carrier

Investigations confirmed that Mr. Timi Alaibe and Mr Kuku used Alex Onyema’s firm to open different NGOs and companies that were later used to transfer money in millions of dollars to US accounts that Mr. Allen Onyeama used to purchase the Airpeace Nigeria LTD fleet – This is why the U.S got involved.

In 2009, Mr. Timi Alaibe who had wanted to contest for Bayelsa governorship election after his stint as Senior Special Adviser on Amnesty to the president, approached Patience Jonathan the then First lady to help persuade President Jonathan to appoint his progeny Kingsley Kuku who served as his Personal Assisatnt while in NDDC to be Chairman of the Presidential Amnesty Program in an attempt to cover his tracks.

Patience Jonathan agreed on the condition that her office will be constantly serviced by the Amnesty Office. Timi Alaibe agreed and a new alliance was forged between the duo. An alliance that would consequently give birth to Air Peace Airlines LTD.

FOLLOWING THE MONEY

A few months ago, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered a financial audit of the Presidential Amnesty Program and the NDDC.

Consequently, the The United States Department of Justice charged Allen Ifechukwu Athan Onyema, the Chairman, CEO, and founder of Air Peace, a Nigerian airline, with bank fraud and money laundering “for moving more than $20 million from Nigeria through United States bank accounts in a scheme involving false documents based on the purchase of airplanes,” according to a statement from the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Georgia.

Air Peace’s Chief of Administration and Finance, Ejiroghene Eghagha, was also being charged with bank fraud and committing aggravated identity theft in connection with the scheme.

According to the statement issued by the Department Office Justice, “Onyema allegedly leveraged his status as a prominent business leader and airline executive while using falsified documents to commit fraud.” U.S. Attorney Byung J. “BJay” Pak was quoted in the statement as saying; “We will diligently protect the integrity of our banking system from being corrupted by criminals, even when they disguise themselves in a cloak of international business.”

Robert J. Murphy , Special Agent in Charge of the DEA Atlanta Field Division who commented on the indictment said, “Allen Onyema’s status as a wealthy businessman turned out to be a fraud. He corrupted the U.S. banking system, but his trail of deceit and trickery came to a skidding halt. DEA would like to thank the many law enforcement partners and the subsequent prosecution by the U.S. Attorney’s Office who aided in making this investigation a success.”

“Onyema setup various innocent sounding multi-million dollar asset purchases which were nothing more than alleged fronts for his scam,” said acting Special Agent in Charge Robert Hammer, who oversees HSI operations in Georgia and Alabama.

According to U.S. Attorney Pak, the indictment, and other information presented in court: “Onyema, a Nigerian citizen and businessman, is the founder and Chairman of several organizations that purport to promote peace across Nigeria, including the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Center for Non-Violence and Peace Development, and All-Time Peace Media Communications Limited.

“Beginning in 2010, Onyema began travelling frequently to Atlanta, where he opened several personal and business bank accounts. Between 2010 and 2018, over $44.9 million was allegedly transferred into his Atlanta-based accounts from foreign sources.”

Onyema founded Air Peace in 2013.
According to the statement, “in years following the founding of Air Peace, he traveled to the United States and purchased multiple airplanes for the airline. However, over $3 million of the funds used to purchase the aircraft allegedly came from bank accounts for Foundation for Ethnic Harmony, International Center for Non-Violence and Peace Development, All-Time Peace Media Communications Limited, and Every Child Limited.

“Beginning in approximately May 2016, Onyema, together with Eghagha, allegedly used a series of export letters of credit to cause banks to transfer more than $20 million into Atlanta-based bank accounts controlled by Onyema. The letters of credit were purportedly to fund the purchase of five separate Boeing 737 passenger planes by Air Peace. The letters were supported by documents such as purchase agreements, bills of sale, and appraisals proving that Air Peace was purchasing the aircraft from Springfield Aviation Company LLC, a business registered in Georgia.

“However, the supporting documents were fake — Springfield Aviation Company LLC, which is owned by Onyema and managed by a person with no connection to the aviation business, never owned the aircraft, and the company that allegedly drafted the appraisals did not exist.

“Eghagha allegedly participated in this scheme as well, directing the Springfield Aviation manager to sign and send false documents to banks and even using the manager’s identity to further the fraud. After Onyema received the money in the United States, he allegedly laundered over $16 million of the proceeds of the fraud by transferring it to other accounts.”

Onyema and Eghagha were indicted on November 19, 2019, on one count of conspiracy to commit bank fraud, three counts of bank fraud, one count of conspiracy to commit credit application fraud, and three counts of credit application fraud.

Additionally, Onyema was charged with 27 counts of money laundering, and Eghagha was charged with one count of aggravated identity theft.

You would recall that in 2014, Diepreye Dikibo, spokesman of the ex-Militant Leaders Forum in the Niger Delta, alleged that Onyema and Kingsley Kuku, former adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Niger Delta Affairs, used funds meant for the amnesty programme to float Air Peace.

Kuku was the coordinator of the project while Onyema was a consultant.

In a statement, Dikibo alleged that Onyema’s Foundation for Ethnic Harmony was one of the biggest beneficiaries of contracts from presidential amnesty programme.

Read an excerpt of the statement from the spokesman of the ex-militant leaders as published on www.thecable.ng 24th November 2019.

Initially, there were rumors that Air Peace, a new Airline whose aircraft have recently been cited at Lagos Airports belong to the First Lady Patience Faka Jonathan. That is all not true. We believe at this moment, that those who churned out the story that the Airlines belonged to the First Lady did so deliberately to hide the truth and to mislead the people.

The truth did not take too long to come out. Business concerns owned by Allen Onyema, a Lagos based businessman, colleague and close confidant of the Special adviser to the President on Niger Delta & Chairman, Presidential Amnesty Programme Kingsley Kuku have not been confirmed as responsible for the Airlines and more to that, Allen Onyema has now publicly confirmed that he is the Chairman of the Air Peace Airlines.

Allen Onyeama’s business outfit handled the demobilization and orientation of former Niger Delta militants which cost billions of Naira to run. Allen Onyema has also been responsible for high valued training contracts (running into billions) in the areas of welding training as well as aviation training for the Presidential Amnesty Programme in countries such as South Africa, The United States and Dubai.

Kingsley Kuku, Allen Onyema with House of Reps Committee Members on the Niger Delta visiting Proclad Academy, Dubai (Where Allen Onyema’s business outfit ICNPD) is training Niger Delta youths in Welding for millions of dollars.

The appointment of Kingsley Kuku as SA, Niger Delta & Chairman of the Amnesty Programme in January 2011, was a huge blessing for Allen Onyema as it gave him automatic access to a monster chunk of the more than sixty billion naira allocated to the amnesty programme yearly.

Two of Allen Onyeama’s NGOs which also double as business outfits are known to be the biggest beneficiary of large value Presidential Amnesty Contracts and we can confirm that none of these outfits has any ties to the First Lady Patience Jonathan.

They include the Foundation for Ethnic Harmony in Nigeria (FEHN) and the International Center for Non-violence & Peace Development (ICNPD).

All the contracts awarded to Allen Onyema and his business run into millions of dollars and are all grossly inflated and over valued in a manner designed to short change the Amnesty Programme and steal the billions of naira yearly allocated to the manage the amnesty program in the Niger Delta.
End of excerpt.

Since her husband, Ex-president Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, was voted out of power in 2015, Patience Jonathan has been dragged to court at least four times by the Economic and Financial crimes Commission (EFCC), with the target of reclaiming both money and properties allegedly acquired with “proceeds of unlawful activities.”

HealthEnugu Conducts Mass Meningitis Vaccination For Children by OEPHIUS(op): 7:39pm On Dec 10, 2019
Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Tuesday, launched the first ever meningitis vaccination campaign in the state, declaring a mass vaccination of children between the ages of one and five.

Speaking at the flag-off ceremony at Abakpa Nike Primary Health Centre, in Enugu East Local Government Area, Gov. Ugwuanyi who stressed the importance of the campaign against meningitis, stated the timing for the campaign was apt, considering that "meningitis is often associated with heat and dry season".

Disclosing that "Enugu State is the first state in Southern Nigeria to fully implement this meningitis mass vaccination," he added that the state came first in the country in Maternal and Child Healthcare indices, according to the recent Lots Quality Assurance Survey, by the National Primary Health Care Development Agency.

Reiterating the state government’s premium on healthcare delivery for citizens and residents, Gov. Ugwuanyi disclosed that the State Ministry of Health, since the inception of his administration on May 29, 2015, has consistently taken the third position after the Ministries of Works and Education in terms of capital expenditure portfolio provision in the budget.

Noting that his administration is being encouraged by the results it is getting to continue pursuing the goal of a healthy state, the governor revealed that the state government is expecting the visitation of African Regional Certification Committee for Polio eradication "as they adjudged Enugu State, the best performing state in South East Nigeria, in terms of polio eradication".

He said the state has a free pre-natal and anti-natal treatment for women, while general hospitals in various Local Government Areas are being rejuvenated, statistically resulting to an all-time low infant mortality.

Gov. Ugwuanyi further said that his administration is repositioning the Enugu State Primary Healthcare Development Agency for optimum results, adding that the state paid N100 million counterpart fund to enable it benefit from the Basic Healthcare Provision Fund.

His words: "The state provided a take-off grant of N200 million to Enugu State Agency for Universal Health Coverage and a Duplex at No. 12 Colliery Avenue, as office complex for Universal Health Coverage.

"Last month, that is November 2019, Enugu State ensured that the Measles Second Dose Campaign was transferred into our routine immunization exercise".

In his address, the Executive Secretary, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. George Ugwu, commended Gov. Ugwuanyi for his passion, disposition and support to the agency through various interventions and primary healthcare programmes across the state, "especially those that positively and directly impact on the health of the people of Enugu State as a whole, especially women, children and other vulnerable groups in the society".

Dr. Ugwu stated that one of the interventions "worthy of mention is the just concluded introduction of Measles, second dose, into Routine Immunization for children between 15 and 23 months of age" implemented to protect them against measles disease which is one of the major causes of morbidity and mortality in children across the globe.

The Executive Secretary revealed that the acceptance of the introduction of measles second dose vaccine and other related interventions by the people was demonstrated through the high demand for the services witnessed during the exercise.

"Your (Ugwuanyi's) support in this regard was the magic wand that made the difference. I cannot forget Your Excellency's wonderful support for National Immunization Plus Days (NIPDs) and the Outbreak Response (OBR) that was conducted in Uzo-Uwani LGA in order to ensure that our people living within the border communities in the Local Government Areask where the last strain was reported in Kogi are fully protected.

"May I inform our dear governor that Her Excellency, the wife of the Governor of Enugu State, Hon (Mrs.) Monica Ugochi Ugwuanyi, personally launched the grand finale of the just concluded introduction of Measles second dose campaign.

"Her acceptance to personally discharge that responsibility was, indeed, a big morale booster for both health workers and recipients of the vaccines, as well as a demonstration of government’s commitment to the overall health and well-being of the citizens of this State".

In their goodwill messages, representatives of the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and NPHCDA applauded the sustained efforts of Gov. Ugwuanyi's administration in providing healthcare delivery to the people as well as supporting and collaborating with the NPHCA and the development partners in their quest to making the country healthy.

PoliticsAnti-corruption: Ugwuanyi Lauds Buhari, EFCC by OEPHIUS(op):
Gov first to attend our function since 2006 - Commission

Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, on Monday, applauded President Muhammadu Buhari for his administration’s determined fight against economic crimes and corruption in the country.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who spoke at the event commemorating this year’s International Anti-Corruption Day, held at the South East zonal office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in Enugu, also appreciated the genuine efforts of the acting Chairman of the commission, Mr. Ibrahim Magu and his team, in the enthronement of transparency and prudence in the management of public finances.

The governor while acknowledging the contributions of the commission in the South East zone equally commended its zonal head, Usman Imam and his team for “your untiring efforts to sustain zero tolerance for corruption”.

Gov. Ugwuanyi, who made history as the first governor to attend a function of the commission at the Enugu zonal office since its establishment in 2006, thanked the body for inviting him to the event.

The governor, who noted the onerous task before the EFCC, wished the officials God’s abiding guidance and protection and prayed that the commission continues to grow from strength to strength.

In his opening address, the EFCC zonal head, Imam, while disclosing that Gov. Ugwuanyi was the first governor to attend a function at the zonal office since its establishment in 2006 stated that this year’s event was “unique and historic”.

Imam added that the gesture “speaks volumes honestly”, expressing their gratitude to the governor “for being in our midst”.

He explained that “the EFCC celebrates this day with stakeholders because of its God-given mandate of leading the fight against economic and financial crimes and other forms of corruption in the country and indeed, across the continent”.

The Enugu zonal head, who noted that the event was marked simultaneously in all the zonal offices across the country including the headquarters in Abuja, with the theme: “Zero Tolerance For Corruption”, harped on the urgent need for effective collaboration among EFCC, ICPC and other law enforcement agencies in the fight against economic crimes and corruption.

He stressed that “because corruption is not just an act instinctively carried out, but a function of calculating, strategic, self-interested behaviour, the need to tackle it through a behavioral change approach cannot be over-emphasized”.

“Indeed, we are not resting on our oars as EFCC is not just about prosecution and conviction. We have been quite robust in our sensitization and enlightenment mandates”.

The Enugu zonal head therefore called for the support and co-operation of Nigerians, stressing that “fighting corruption requires vigorous and collective participation of everybody including children and especially opinion leaders, civil society organizations, labour, traditional rulers, student leaders, the judiciary and the media”.

Offering candid advice against corrupt practices, Imam said: “Those who have been identified as corrupt among the people must not be given chieftaincy tittles and must consciously be alienated as deterrent to others and for all to know that corruption is anti-people.

“Parents who enjoy the loot of criminalities from their children, who are involved in cyber crimes otherwise known as yahoo-yahoo, must know that a day of reckoning is coming. Do not encourage your children to live above their means, rather instill the virtue of hard work, transparency and accountability in them”.

PoliticsGoodluck Jonathan’s Journey To APC, His Fealty To Buhari And Survivalist Agenda by OEPHIUS(op): 12:56pm On Dec 03, 2019
Who does not love Former President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan? Yes, there are some who do not (the number is growing in recent times), but then, Jonathan is Nigeria’s Obama. Many accord him – despite, true, one or two flaws here and there – the “Hero of Democracy” title in Nigeria, same way they do Barrack. He did not fight the loss in 2015, you saw his human side every time when he talked about his handicaps, we saw the Boko Haram insurgency hurt him, he wrote several books we all love even though the much anticipated book had fall short of expectations as the book did not explicitly explain what truly transpired in 2015 that led to him being ousted in 2015.
Jonathan
in the book of many Nigerians, is the gold standard for a good President. But then, there is a certain Patience Jonathan beside him.

His Wife, Patience Jonathan is loved too by many, her stubborn resistance against appearing a certain way to the general public bought the admiration of many who saw it as a breath of fresh air in the sycophancy-chocked political caucuses in Nigeria. It is also this stubbornness that, behind the curtain, has stained her hands, co-opted her husband in a lot of shady dealings, and has brought her at loggerheads with many people in power, popular among which is her heated spat with former governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transport, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi.

Up to this day, Goodluck Jonathan would tell you he never had any problem with Rotimi Amaechi, but Patience made the former governor to look like he betrayed his people in 2015. No respectable person would tolerate what Patience did to Amaechi, and funny thing is that if Amaechi were to open his mouth to say what he knows about Patience and her husband, nobody will ever regard the two again. It’s that stark.

The just-concluded Bayelsa elections saw David Lyon beat Sen. Duoye Diri with a landslide. The same elections, amid several instances of already written result sheets brought from Aridolf Hotel in Yenagoa (Owned by the Jonathans) a day before the elections to shameful violent displays that give little hope by way of credibility in the future of elections in Nigeria, has sprung up a series of events that make you just wonder what is going on. Those in tune with the political sphere in Bayelsa State know that the chief reason why it seemed Timi Alaibe had no backing, and eventually Douye Diri lost a lot of leverage is the purported falling out between Former President Goodluck Jonathan and Governor Seriake Dickson. There was no falling out. Jonathan had reached the point where Patience’s excesses had begun haunting him so much that he had to make moves that opposed his public image; moves that are threatening his reputation, and a few more to come that place him smack in the middle of scandals you did not know were brewing in Nigeria.

He did what he did, and is doing what he’s doing, for his name and his wife’s freedom. The honest truth is that Former President Jonathan has pledged fealty to President Buhari and the APC. Jonathan is a survivalist who has sold out to keep himself and his family safe. I’ll explain.

The Meeting with President Buhari

Circa, 11th of October 2019; A Meeting of Two Presidents, and the name, “Malabu”.

In 2011, as a former Minister of Petroleum under Military Dictator, General Sani Abacha, Dan Etete facilitated the transfer of payment of $1.1 billion to Malabu Oil and Gas. The Economist reports that only $800 million out of the $1.1 billion was ever remitted to the Nigerian government. $300 million (N108 billion) is missing.

Today, the EFCC has an arrest warrant for Dan Etete, Mohammed Adoke (ex-attorney general), and Eni Manager, Roberto Casula. Another report says that $1.1 billion of the total was siphoned to agents and middlemen. The case has spawned several legal cases spanning several countries, involving Nigerian government officials and senior ENI and Shell executives. Of course, Shell and ENI have denied any wrongdoing. Shell came into this deal in 2001, after a failed illegal attempt in 1999. This deal was finally consummated when President Jonathan was in Power.

The Malabu deal conspiracy has revealed too many players than all the names previously mentioned, and hands are dirty all over the place. The request for President Jonathan to give a statement came first in 2017, and somehow, it died down. Jonathan had to make a trip to the Villa. This trip led to a meeting that was known to have occurred on Friday, 11th October, 2019.

You would recall that the outspoken former governor of Jigawa state, Dr. Sule Lamido had in in an explosive interview with Daily Sun accused the former President of betraying the People’s Democratic Party in Bayelsa because the federal government is “blackmailing him” over malabu issue.

After INEC announcement of APC candidate, David Lyon as winner of the November 16 governorship election in Bayelsa, Jonathan, in what came as a shock to many, received APC chieftains at his residence in Otuoke.

The former minister of Foreign affairs and two term governor of Jigawa said, “I can’t imagine a former president selling his own state to the opposition — to the very party which called him names, which demonized him.

“They are holding him by the balls. Because he (Jonathan) sure knows his problem with Buhari and with this government. And the issue of Malabo, I think, played a key role, I said so. So, the election were won and lost by PDP. PDP history, PDP tradition and Jonathan were behind him. That I can say anywhere because the issue of Malabo is an issue I know very well. I had cause to discuss it with him.

Lamido further explained that, “While he was the president and I was in office, I went and told him about it. I told him and I also gave a radio interview to an FM in Abuja, which Daily Triumph picked, where they said a minister under Jonathan got almost 150 million dollars Malabo scan — Governor Lamido. And when Reuben Abati came to debunk it or to abuse me, I went to Reuben Abati, I know what I am saying, can we go to the Villa, I discussed this with Jonathan. I told him about it. Let us go.

“What I am saying is that obviously because the leadership of the APC and the government are blackmailing Jonathan and I think I can say it anywhere that he traded this for his own freedom.”

The details of the meeting:

Sources within the Presidential Villa have revealed that Goodluck Jonathan needed the EFCC to give his wife some breathing space and himself a clean slate over The Malabu deal and another yet to be revealed major scandal that may eventually drag his name in the mud – (Enter Abdulrasheed Maina and Allen Onyeama, we will give the details of this later). No big deal, this was going to be granted, if he was to do certain things. Politically-motivated quid pro quos are like bread and Coca-Cola in Nigeria. The conditions attached were:

Jonathan and his entire household (Including the corruption ring as our source calls them) would support the APC in all elections in the South South and in Nigeria at large, a proposition easily put forward by GEJ himself and accepted by President Buhari. And if you have been paying attention, you would see the loudness of Jonathan’s silence on key political issues since 2018, he never condemned Walter Onnoghen’s illegal suspension, he never condemned the massive irregularities that took place in the General elections even though he claimed to support Atiku and the PDP, he never spoke against the electoral violence and the heated polity in Rivers State which affected Governor Nyesom Wike, who is very close to him and his wife.

Furthermore, GEJ’s support for the APC candidate in the recently concluded electoral fraud in Bayelsa is another indication of a man clutching for survival.
According to a source, President Buhari’s words were, “The money is too much, just ask your wife and associates to return some,” and indeed some have been returned but that isn’t all in the deal.

Jonathan had also appealed to President Buhari to drop the charges against Colonel Sambo Dasuki, Jonathan’s former NSA, who had been incarcerated since 2015 but this was outrightly rejected by the President who has had a long-standing beef with the former NSA man.
Former pensions boss Abdulrasheed Maina’s name was also thrown into the deal as the case against him is becoming increasingly serious and he may squeal Jonathan’s name as the beneficiary of most his loot as his office was used to fund parts of the 2015 elections.

• Former Petroleum Minister during Jonathan regime, Diezani Alison Madueke’s name was also thrown into the hat. President Buhari picked it up. He is granting the wish to have the EFCC soften up on her. In fact, her charges are almost dropped.

• To support the APC, no matter what his words in the media are and this was immediately reflected in Jonathan’s disposition in the just concluded sham of an elections in Bayelsa where his support was largely tilted to the APC.

Jonathan’s Silence on PDP and support of the APC.

After the sham of an elections in Bayelsa that saw APC emerge victorious, the initial rumor was that he had fallen out with Governor Dickson over the choice of a candidate for the PDP in Bayelsa, a rumor that has largely been proven to be false. Goodluck Jonathan had already pledged to support the APC with his family not just in the Bayelsa elections that just passed, but nationwide.

Truth is, we can’t seem to find any words in the media. Jonathan is not speaking, for a former president and commander-in-chief of the armed forces of Nigeria. If at all he is saying something, it’s very often roundabout in nature. Political correctness is the order of his day these days. This is because since 2015, he has been fighting the battle of his life. He is very afraid to comment on national issues. He did not at all issue any personally signed public statement over the last general elections where Atiku was outrightly rigged out. He did not speak out over the unjust removal of Justice Onnoghen. He did not attempt to release a statement condemning what happened in Rivers State in the last general elections even though he and his wife are very close to Governor Nyesom Wike.

And so the dots are connected, and connecting, and more is being unfolded. It is easy to pity the man, and shame the wife. It is easy to hate his successor and cry foul over the fact that the EFCC really is not independent. It is easy to deride Mama Peace’s front man (who is an APC man now, by the way), and cry each time the US (and the rest of the international community) launches a new probe into Nigeria and Nigerians. It is easy to wonder how much money can take control of a man, how much OPL 245 (Malabu) has outlasted regimes (1998-present) because of money.

The Air Peace and Mama Peace scandal

The Malabu oil scandal is not the only threat on Goodluck Jonathan’s good name, a name he so rightly protects. His wife’s excesses are a part of his problem and this time it comes with a very familiar name in the Sky “Air Peace”.

“Air Peace” is to “Mama Peace” is to “Patience Jonathan” is to “Six Years in Aso Rock Collecting Loot, and Putting Her Husband in Trouble”. Yes, you heard the rumours and they are true.

Recently, the US Department of Justice released a document on the probe into Air Peace, and the $20 million indictment of Mr. Allen Onyeama. This indictment includes 27 counts of bank fraud between 2010 and 2018 (The reign of Air Peace). Over $3 million of the money used to purchase airplanes for Airpeace came from foundations he started. Springfield Avaiation Company LLC never owned the aircrafts sold to Air Peace and the company that allegedly drafted the appraisals did not exist.

The EFCC is clamping down on Mr Onyeama who is just a front and the real owners of Nigeria’s fastest airline, the Jonathans are trying to keep their names out of it, a fealty owed to Buhari must be paid and this debt is simple, an allegiance to the APC.

This explains Goodluck Jonathan’s recent support for the APC and silence on the PDP, a man trying to salvage his name, a man trying to save his family from disgrace, a survivalist who would do anything to not pay for his many crimes financial crimes against the Nigerian people. A man masquerading as a hero so that his name can be used to perpetuate illegality in elections.

This is only the beginning.

The Air Peace saga throws up familiar names in the Goodluck Jonathan administration prior to 2015 who at the directive of Patience Jonathan used the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) and Niger Delta Amnesty office to loot monies and use same to setup Air Peace and then use Mr. Allen Onyeama as a front man for the airline business.

But it’s not just Mr. Allen Onyeama that’s tied to the corruption ring that the Jonathans have setup. In the coming days you will hear the names of one Abdulrasheed Maina, Timi Alaibe, Kingsley Kuku, Alex Badeh, etc.

This web of corruption is so intertwined that it will take only an insider to give the full details of how deep it runs.

More details coming soon…..
