Celebrities / "Lagos Realtors Think I'm A Ho Because I'm Single" - Simi Rants (VIDEO) by officialnaija: 12:48am On Aug 25, 2016
Nigerian songstress, Simi, popular known for hit singles "Jamb Question" and "Tiff" is complaining about how realtors (people that sell houses) in Lagos, Nigeria think that you're a ho if you're a single woman who can afford to buy a house.

I don't know how true this is, but from what I've heard around, I think that it may actually be the case and if so, that's quite sad. What do you think Lagosians in the house? Have you noticed this in your area? Is Simi lying or is just her facing this problem.

Let us know what you think.

Nairaland / General / 20 Nigerians Share Their Most Embarrassing Moments, And It's Hilarious! by officialnaija: 3:21pm On Jan 19, 2016

This whole post is actually really hilarious but the post is long so I'm just going to share the ones I personally found really funny.

Actually this happened to me last month. I attended a weeding with my fiancee and while we were exchanging pleasantries with some dignitaries, as put my hand inside my pocket to bring out my hanky so as to clean my face in that sunny afternoon, out came a big cockroach and everybody stared at me. I was momemtarily flabbergasted and speechless. My fiance did not talk to me for one week b/c of this incidence. - Dereformer

I have been embarrassed a number of times. A guy saw me the other day and he was like, ‘Oh, big lips! Jesus, na the lips wey I dey see for screen be these? Oh my God, see the lips o!’ When he was saying this, a lot of guys were there. And he was just calling their attention to my lips. People around were looking at my lips and they were all laughing. I was embarrassed that day but I just smiled over it and left the place. - Nuella Njugbigbo

Back in my school days, a guy that fancied me took me out to a five star hotel to impress me. Little did i know about their menu and charges back then.I ordered roasted fish and champman, and the bobo was there looking shocked. I didn't realized he took me there to eat chips probably bc he didn't come out with cash. I was busy digging into the fish when he excused himself to the gent. After a couple of minutes i asked the waiter to find him. She told me that he left. Mehn shocked shocked shocked. I had to call ma bro to come and bail me out bc the hotel management ceased my bag - babyme1

My most embarrassing experience happened at the US embassy. As a queen, I went there for the US visa in my full regalia, the dress, the crown, everything. And you won’t believe me, they denied me the visa. It was so embarrassing. I later went back after my reign as Fiona Amuzie and this time they gave me - Fiona Amuzia

My most embarrassing moment was when I had to give a wedding toast. I was mounted on stage giving my speech wearing this all-white suit, shirt, and trouser. Next thing I know, my baby little cousin runs on stage with his tiny cup of hot tea in his hands in an attempt to hug me. Believe me when I say it all happened like a flash: He hugged me, all the tea poured on my trouser, RIGHT IN THE FRONT, that tea was HOT! The front of my white trouser was now brown, MEHNNNN, I just had to get out of there with as little dignity as I had left. That was by far the most embarrassing moment of my life - Jide Okonjo

Since it's Jide Okonjo's blog and he does daily giveaways, he's also currently doing a N100 recharge card giveaway to his favorite commenter so if you have a funny embarrassing moment story too, I advice you to go and try your luck as well.

Romance / What Would You Do If Your Ex Wants You Back (nigerians' Respones!) by officialnaija: 11:18am On Jan 19, 2016

So you guys don't know this but on Thursday I went out on the streets, and asked people what they would do if their ex wanted them back. It was quite scary and obviously I was panicking a bit asking strangers these questions but the responses I got were priceless so without further ado, I would just quote as many people as I can in this post.

See after the jump:

I would tell him to go to third mainland bridge and take a jump. - Ada

I swear na to bath him hot water, he dey mad - Mary

Omo guy, I go take am back. Wetin? I go just use her use her use her, when I don finish with her, I go throway her. She dey crase! - Matthew

What does ex mean? Ex means expired, exchanged, expunged; ex means that bitch is fucking out of my life. I would rather die before I take my ex back I swear - Sanusi

Hahaha, me, my ex. Ha! I would take him back and then pour JIK inside his drink. He must be stupid - Tosin

FOR WHAT? See if you know how my ex-boyfriend treated me you won't even be asking me this question. I would lock him up, yes, I would lock him up. My ex-boyfriend was actually mad, like actually really mad. God forbid he comes back - Lolia

I miss my ex, I would take her back. Our break-up was my fault so yes, I would actually take her back - Steven

Funny you should ask because my ex-girlfriend actually tried to contact me the other day. When she called, I shouted at her and told her never to call my line again. She continued calling so I blocked her number, and next thing her friend was calling me. Long story short, I went to her house and confronted her in person. Now she no longer disturbs me. The girl is a fool - Eric

Mschewwwwwwww, that fool, let him just try it is all I would say - Mary, another one.

That fucking bitch! I'm telling you man, exes are the scum of this earth I swear. They are even worse than rats to me. God forbid exes - Richard

I would take him back, sacrifice him, and use his body for rituals - Veronica

Truth be told I would leave her for my wife. I would just tell my wife her intentions and allow her to do with her as she pleases. - Dotun

My ex-girlfriend can't even possibly make contact with me because her number is blocked, and deleted, and I would never talk with her about anything that has to do with re-uniting even if I ever saw her again. Good luck if she wants to try though - Jide Okonjo

So you tell me, what would you do if your ex wants you back?

The most creative answer today wins N100 free airtime.

I'm Reading!

Celebrities / First-ever Nigerian Daily Giveaway Entertainment Blog Goes Live. by officialnaija: 11:33am On Jan 08, 2016

In case you don't know who Jide Okonjo is, he started blogging sometime in November but then took some time out to establish an online teaching service. Anyway, he is back with a new blog he's calling a "family affair" and discussing as he says, real issues with real Nigerians and topics. The big change though and what is most exciting about the comeback is the fact that the entrepreneur has decided to do DAILY GIVEAWAYS on his site, for little things like wishing him a welcome back as he's doing now or discussing on the topic of the day. Two giveaways are already happening today, on the day of his return, and I have taken the initiative to post the topic of today. Read for yourself:

NIGHTMARES! We all have them, even though we all pray at night and ask God to come against them. Today, let's sit around the fire and share some scary and interesting tales: What Is Your Worst Nightmare...EVER?

I went around and asked some personal friends, family members, and the internet for some of theirs and all I can say is: prepare yourself to pray EXTRA HARD tonight because you are about to read some very very freaky and scary nightmares after the jump:

Let's start with a nightmare I found on the internet:

Of all the terrifying nightmares I had when I was a kid the worst case of night terror I ever experienced was in college.
I was dreaming that I was in my bed (just as I actually was). There was nothing strange at first, nothing to indicate that this was a dream. Then, I had the conviction that there was someone else in the room. I opened my eyes and sure enough, there was someone in the room. He/she was looking out the window, back towards me. I then thought: "this person is the devil." Just as I did, it turned around revealing a, well, a very terrifying face. At that moment I woke up.
I woke up, but of course I was in the same room, lying in the same position and even though I knew I was awake, somehow, I was still convinced that it was still in the room. I couldn't move. I tried to reason myself out of this terror but somehow it made things worse...
What was certainly very enlightening about this experience is that even though I most certainly didn't believe in the devil, and because this had been covered in psych 101, I knew it was a night terror, it was still perhaps the most terrifying moment of my life.

Did that scare you? If it didn't, then you're going to have to see the nightmare my sister had:

My scariest dream ever is a dream I had 3 years ago. A fat black man covered in what looked like powder which made him look white was going around killing people. In the dream, he would go family to family and ask individuals in the family to pick a number.
Each number had a different method by which the man would kill the individual, and if a person refused to pick a number, the person would have to kill his/herself.
The man went family to family and eventually, he came to my own family. He knocked and as we went to answer the door, he came into our home and asked my mother to pick a number.
My mother picked 2, I suddenly woke up!

Freaky right? You haven't seen anything yet. This is my personal favorite and happened to a close friend of mine. I was actually there the morning he recounted the experience to us and my guy was SHAKING that day. Take a read:

The scariest dream I ever had was in secondary school. I attended [retracted] in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, and I lived in a boarding house there. One night while I was sleeping, I dreamt that I went to urinate in the hostel bathroom, and just as I was coming out, I saw an old woman with long grey hair and red eyes looking at me.
Immediately, I ran back into my dorm room and started screaming for help and urging people to wake up but it seems like nobody was hearing me as everybody just kept on sleeping. To my utmost fear, I turned around and the woman was walking slower and slower towards me with a very evil look on her face. I ran. I ran and it seems like I ran for a very very long time but when I finally reached my destination, it was my own bed in my own room which is a very short distance from where I was before.
I lay down there, covered myself fully with my blanket, and closed my eyes hoping the woman would not notice me. I suddenly woke up...but this is where things got very very scary.
I had what I now know as sleep paralysis which is a situation where you're trapped in your body, meaning that your mind is awake but your body is still asleep. I woke up and as I came up from under my blanket, I saw the old woman with her red eyes I can never forget sitting on my bed pressing my chest down. I SCREAMED! I SHOUTED! Jide, I CRIED, but it is like nobody was hearing me at all.
The woman stayed there staring me right in the eye, and suddenly began to open her mouth which seemed to have nothing but black sand inside. I think she was about to bite me. Right as her mouth opened to the fullest and she was just about to come at me, I closed my eyes tightly and the next thing I knew, I was awake awake this time scared and sweating on my bed.
Till this day, that is the most terrifying dream I have ever had in my entire life.

Is that scary or what?! Well, if we are talking about nightmares, I mean, I guess it's only right I talk about my own worst nightmare as well. I don't really remember a lot of my dreams AT ALL! However, the only nightmare I remember, I remember because it's the only time I've ever woken up actually shouting in my bed.

It happened a very very long time ago when I was still in primary school, and it's not even that scary when I recount it, but it was terrifying back then.

In the dream, my aunty whom I love very very much and my father were conniving to kill me. All I really remember is the final part of the dream where I woke up, and I remember that they both tied me up with a long brown tight rope and threw me to the road. I was shouting, screaming, begging, but they both entered into the car and began to drive towards me to kill me.
They began driving, and just when they got to a short distance from crushing me, I woke up SCREAMING.

That is honestly the only dream I remember in terms of nightmares but of course you know I want to hear your own personal worst nightmares/ best dreams you have ever had.

I would constantly update this post as the day goes by with my personal best 10 comments I read, and those 10 people would get N200 worth of airtime on top any network of their choice. This giveaway would extend into tomorrow so if you're reading this on Friday, fear not, you still stand a chance to win N200 airtime.

Celebrities / ‘i’ve Let Go Of All Bitterness And Hate I Felt For 9ice’ |toni Payne Reveals by officialnaija: 10:29am On Jan 06, 2016

Estranged wife of Gongo Aso hit maker, Toni Payne has decided to close old wounds by forgiving 9ice after the two seperated 6 years ago in a messy divorce.

She took to her website to pen an emotional letter to the father of their 7-year-old son, Zion.

“It has been a good 6 years and now I can categorically say I have let go of all bitterness and hate I felt for a man I once loved. It has been an uphill journey but to find myself here is a blessing.

Without getting into detail and backtracking too much, I’ll summarize it as a lot of naivety, a lot of bad decisions, and a lot of untrained media professionals ready to blow things out of proportion.

A man sang a song and for whatever reason known to them, Nigerian Media “professionals” decided to tag it as what it was not, and a lot of Nigerian onlookers decided to help spread it without knowing if it was true or not and unfortunately for me, I was caught in the crossfire. A lot of people formed opinions about me, some even hate me till today for something that was mere fiction. Such is life right?

Till today, I still wonder how things got that far. I wonder how things got so nasty. I wonder how a once beautiful relationship turned so sour so quickly.

These days, we talk – a lot. We talk about what happened and how we got here. These days, we can now joke and laugh about the past. I ask a lot of questions because I really want to understand him and put myself in his shoes. I also hope he understands my every reaction and puts himself in my shoes.

Through all the mess, we never really talked deeply about things. There was too much resentment on my side for me to want to allow him in. There was too much bitterness in my soul to ever want to forgive. I honestly never thought this day would come – that is how angry I was. There is a Yoruba proverb that states “when the ocean rises, you don’t rise to meet it.”

For every action there is a reaction and for every reaction there are consequences. I think sometimes, when you are finally in a good place, it is good to talk. Don’t just leave things like that, reach out to each other and talk about things. It is good for both parties to get closure. It is good to try to understand each other and move on with peace in your heart.

He stands by his reasoning that he never mentioned my name or ever accused me of such, and even though I agree with him that he never accused me of anything, I stand by my reasoning that he still should have defended me against a very wicked rumor. He argues that he felt it would have escalated things, I argue that things got escalated because he did not speak up. We both believed in our decisions at that point. He felt silence was the best answer, I felt I needed to defend myself for posterity sake. At the end of the day, it is what it is. When the noise calms, we still have to deal with each other. When the curtains fall, we still need to have each others best interest at heart.

I am not perfect but I can categorically say I did my best to be a good woman to him. I still do. I believe deep down inside, he knows this. I do all possible best never to speak ill of him publicly – and as far as I know, he does the same for me.

After everything we went through, I always say it is best to keep your private life private. I write this today not to deviate from that but it would be unfair to forgive wholesomely for something that was so “Public” while leaving the impression that I have not. I know a lot of people think I hate him- I don’t!.

I also write this today not to bring up the past but to go on record and let anyone that feels bitter inside know that it only gets better. Trust me, if I can move on from an entire nation thinking I cheated when I did not, you can also forgive whomever hurt you. Just let love and kindness in your heart. Bitterness is a heavy weight to carry and now I feel 100 times lighter.

I believe the younger ones can learn a lot from our errors and most importantly learn about forgiveness. In life, we can only predict what we want from it, we can never ever guess 100% what it will give us. I spent so many years caring what others think till I realized in this life, the opinion of others is just that – an opinion.

I believe I am starting my 2016 off in the right direction. I hope to work on forgiving others who contributed to this chapter in my story. I believe this is a great place to start. At the end of the day, we are family and I am eternally grateful for the grace to see this day.” -Toni Payne

Crime / Sad Tale Of How 20 Yr Old Cross Rivers Mother Sold Her Child For N20,000 (photo) by officialnaija: 10:16am On Oct 30, 2015
Choi! News like this just really saddens me and I'm sorry I have to share it with you all so early in this beautiful morning. Before I get into the news, let me just say that anybody who is going through it right now or living in hard times or struggle, E Go Better! As long as there is life, there is hope.

Mariam Ekanem, who is a 20 year old school drop out from Odukpani Local Government Area of Cross River State, said yesterday in Calabar that poverty and lack of where to stay after she gave birth made her sell her two weeks old baby girl for N20,000.

Hmmm, the story never even start. According to the Vanguard, Maria, who was arrested by the police along five other accomplices, said her boyfriend who got her pregnant, asked her to abort the baby however, a doctor helped her with free antenatal care and food until she gave birth.

According to her. this is another reason that prompted her to agree to sell the baby when arrangements were made to sell.

The gist is quite long, so biko follow the jump to continue:

Paraded along with Maria were a 55-year-old medical doctor, Okokon Offiong Okoho, the proprietor of Evangel Clinic, off 2, Atu Street; a 70-year-old matron of Sadatoe Maternity located at Umoh Street and a nurse at the maternity who allegedly made the plans to sell the girl to an Abuja-based lady who is now on the run.

However, yawa gassed when plans to sell the two weeks old girl was leaked to the police by a Senior Secondary Two girl of NYSC (that na my girl!)

The girl said:
When I came back from school on Monday, Maria told me she wanted to take the baby to the parents of the boy who impregnated her since she can no longer cope with taking care of the baby.

Maria said when they got to Fuller by Inyang Street in Calabar South, they met Mrs Elemi and her daughter in an SUV car, adding that Maria gave the girl to the matron who handed her over to the buyer.

She said: “The woman gave Maria N20,000 and asked her to pay the nurse at the Evangel Clinic and use the rest for herself.”

The girl said she became suspicious when the driver of the SUV told the woman with the baby that her husband said she should take her to the airport to catch a flight to Abuja .

“I started wondering why they should take the girl to the airport when the boyfriend to Maria and her parents live here in Calabar,” Maria stated.

Cross River Police Public Relations Officer, ASP John Eluu, who paraded Maria along with the doctor and Matron, said when information got to the police at the Federal Housing Police Station, detectives swung into action and arrested the suspects.

Politics / Market Women In Rivers State Protest Nullification Of Wike's Election (photos) by officialnaija: 5:20pm On Oct 29, 2015
Nna, my market women are not here for any of this oh. Honestly speaking as a Port Harcourt boy, I would tell you that this nullification has only done more harm than good. The state was fine, things were happening, what is this one that they are nullifying kwa?!

Anyway, the market women in Rivers state took to the streets this afternoon to stage a protest over the nullification of the election of the state governor, Nyesom Wike, by the state Election petition tribunal on October 25th.

The women walked from Old Township to the PDP secretariat where they presented their grievances to the PDP chairman in Rivers State, Felix Obuah. These women didn't come to play.

Travel / FAAN Stands Up For Port Harcourt Airport After Its Ranked Worst Airport Globally by officialnaija: 1:00am On Oct 29, 2015
See these people trying to insult my very own Port Harcourt International Airport. The place is going under construction, which kin yeye survey people come survey airport wey dey under construction?

Make I tell you wetin dey happen.

So last week, a survey group called SleepingInAirports.net, which rates airports scored the Port Harcourt International Airport as “the dirtiest and most corrupt airport in Africa.”

Follow the jump to see the full story:

Speaking on the yeye survey, Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) defended the airport stating that the survey failed to take into cognisance the fact that the airport was undergoing a reconstruction and rehabilitation work.

In a statement by its Spokesman, Mr. Yakubu Dati, FAAN said
Our stand is that the said ranking was unfounded as it did not take cognisance of the fact that the Port Harcourt Airport terminal was still undergoing remodelling with some of its terminal operations still conducted in a temporary structure (tent).
Apart from the ongoing remodelling of the existing domestic terminal, from which both international and local flight operations are conducted, construction work is also in progress at the site of the new international terminal, among other projects at the airport.

Better gather those rats FAAN. How dare they?

In case you want, check out the review here

TV/Movies / Who Would Watch Nollywood Movies/tv Shows? by officialnaija: 7:40pm On Oct 26, 2015
This is such a powerful article. I didn't even know Africa Magic and Ebony Life had online services.

See me see trouble o!

So I was telling one of my friends about Jenifa's Diary and how funny it is, and then the guy stopped me and said "Come oh! So you can subscribe for IrokoTV but you cannot subscribe for Netflix, what is wrong with you?"

Ehnnnn! I look the boy well come tell am "Heks! I have IrokoTV subscription, AfricaMagic Go Subscription, EbonyLife VOD subscription + UnityTV subscription because there is something called patriotism and being honest to your country and heritage"

Now I'm not yabbing anybody that watches oyibo programmes, I watch plenty myself...but the fact that this NIGERIAN boy could look me straight in the eye and tell me that investing in my own country is a waste of time and a mistake is something me I no fit take.

By the time I finish with that boy, him mouth close. See oh! If everybody is going to cinema to watch Hollywood Hollywood, nna who would buy our own movies? How will the people making TV shows and movies in Nigeria feel?

I was talking to Blessing Egbe yesterday who is the creator of Lekki Wives and This Thing Called Marriage + the movie "Iquo's Journal" which is in cinemas now, and I asked her..."Blessing, biko why won't there be season 4 of Lekki Wives".

Blessing said to me:
My brother, if I shoot another season, the buyers may not be able to pay for it oh. you spend so much to shoot and they underprice you. So I will go and start shooting tukpetukpe.
Why is this the case? Ha! We really need to support our movie/TV Show industry more oh. Like this e no good, e no good at all. Haba.
