bonjelow:
Hello Everyone,
I am a fresh graduate from a reputable Federal Polytechnic in Nigeria, I graduated in 2017 and I am supposed to go for youth service this year (2018 Batch A Corps) which will commence soon. But I have an issue bothering me which I need a good advice on.

Last year 2017 my sister who is in USA for close to 12 years wanted me to come and hustle abroad but it's not easy for youth to go there but through schooling, so she helped me to find a good public University to do Masters, I have done the necessary processing and I have been offered an admission for the Fall Semester starting August 2018, my Visa has also been granted.

The issue on ground now is that I want to have the NYSC certificate, probably if I can runs it as a ghost Corper and get the certificate on my behalf or if an exemption can be possible.

Please I need your sincere advice. Thanks.
please what university is it?? Is it expensive?

Education / Re: "Babcock University Spends 20 Million On Electricity Monthly" - Vice Chancellor by Officialzoe: 7:47pm On Oct 28, 2017
Statsocial:
Vice Chancellor of Babcock University, Prof Ademola S. Tayo has stressed the importance of quality in the running of the institution.

He said the university was not-for-profit, hence its provision for work study programme, endowment funds, among other initiatives, to assist indigent students’ access to quality education.

Prof Tayo, who spoke during a visit to Matori, Lagos State Head Office of The Nation newspaper said: “One of our core values is excellence and we would not compromise. But at the same time, because of the philosophy of quality education, we introduced the work-study programme whereby the indigent but diligent students would use their hands to work so that they can augment part of the fees needed to fund their education.

“They work in the cafeteria, library, etc. They get paid and that has helped many of them. We also have parents’ consultative forum where parents partner with management, so that we have a pool of funds that children who lose their parents while in school can have access to, in order to fulfill their dreams. “We also have the ‘adopt a child scholarship’ where we reach out to our host community. Also, we serve as guarantor for parents to access loans for their children’s education. But most importantly, we believe in frugality. Our university is not-for-profit. Nobody shares one naira. It is ploughed back to make the system work better.”

The vice chancellor, who was accompanied by the institution’s management team noted that the institution was being funded solely with earnings from its bakery, Guest House, water factory and other industries, with only two per cent subsidy from its proprietor, The Seventh Day Adventist Church. He added that the university spent about N20 million monthly on electricity.

Prof Tayo noted that the university’s fees were not too high for the services provided, “as it runs 24-hour power supply and the fees also cover tuition, accommodation, laboratory, among other expenses.”

He said the institution will be graduating its pioneer medical students in December, informing that the students have completed their various degrees.

The Medical School, according to him, was establised in 2012.

He said: “One of the areas of excellence that we want to carve a niche in this country is in the area of medicine, which we started in 2012. We have our accreditations from the Medical and Dental Practitioners Council of Nigeria (MDCN) and National Universities Commission (NUC), International Board of Education, National Postgraduate College and the West African College of Physicians. This December, we will turn out our first graduates in the medical school. They have completed their clinical rotation in India.”

Managing Director of The Nation, Mr Victor Ifijeh pledged the organisation’s support for the educational development of the nation, while stressing the organisation’s dedication to objectivity, fairness, integrity and balanced reports.

He lauded Babcock University for its achievements in the education sector, and its swift rise to global standards.

Responding, Prof Tayo acknowledged The Nation for her growth in its ten years of existence noting that “The Nation is a force to reckon with. Your newspaper is always at the forefront. We want to thank God for the role you have played in shaping the public opinion by your accuracy and the way your news are reported”

Education / Re: "FG Should Give Special Funding To Private Universities"-Alaafin Of Oyo by Officialzoe: 7:53am On Oct 26, 2017
Statsocial:
The Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Adeyemi, has advised the Federal Government to set up a special fund for the development of private universities in Nigeria.

Oba Adeyemi gave the advice on Saturday at the 5th convocation of Afe Babalola University, Ado Ekiti (ABUAD).

Ivy League 300 x 250
“This university is an exemplar in learning and character. It is moulding Nigeria’s future leaders in the best fashion.

“And I believe it won’t be out of place for the federal government to give special intervention funds for private universities,” the Alaafin said.

TheNewsGuru reports that 21-year-old Ahwin Kevin Akporode of Department of Mechanical Engineering emerged the overall best of the 869 graduating students with cumulative Grade Point Average of 5.00.

The university also conferred honorary Doctor of Letters on former Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof Peter Okebukola and an American Philanthropist and President of Project CURE Foundation, Dr Williams Douglas.

Earlier in an address of welcome, founder of the university, Chief Afe Babalola, said the university would not deviate from its focus to bridge the existing gap in functional education in Nigeria by its pragmatic approach to teaching.

He appealed to the federal government to construct a airport in Ekiti, saying such project was long overdue, taking into cognizance the feats achieved by the university and its contributions to nation building.

“We started this university with about 250 students seven years ago, but today, we have 8,000 students here. We were able to achieve this because we deviated from the norm of just going to university to get certificates.

“We also exposed them to skills acquisition in baking, farming, Internet expertise, and other entrepreneurial skills that can make them cope under the present Nigeria’s economy.

“So the type of graduands you are seeing are thorough-bred graduates who can effectively stand on their own, “ Babalola said.

Also speaking at the ceremony, Governor of Ekiti State, Ayo Fayose, reminded the graduands to detach themselves from the erroneous impression that acquisition of university certificates would automatically make their lives better.

“It will be wrong for you to think that people only go to university to acquire certificates: No, it goes beyond that. What university education means is the training of a complete being,” Fayose said.

Receiving the best graduating student award, Ahwin said he dedicated the academic laurel to his sterling parental guide, which he said was outstanding.

“I owe this achievement to my parents. My father’s strict military background and my mother’s guide as a teacher helped me a lot.

“When I got to ABUAD, I also applied the aphorism of our founder, which is industry, determination, learning and character. The combination of all these helped me a lot,” the young graduand said.

Please those that have a Domiciliary account with first bank or any other bank in Nigeria.

How much should be the minimum balance in a Domiciliary account (First bank) in particular?

I've got roughly about $20 remaining in my first Domiciliary account and I've tried depositing about $10 to an online platform but alas my efforts have been futile.

Then I read somewhere that $100 should be the minimum balance. Please how true is that? Need to know urgently

Thank you.
