You people are the ones that need to.check your mentality. You lots never experienced hardship but you want to use that same hardship narration as the reason why President Tinubu should be replaced.

It's same you who never wanted the progress and development of Nigeria just because you don't like the president.

Tell me, is such mentality normal?
So let me get this straight, Nigerians are suffering, prices are skyrocketing, poverty is deepening but the real problem, according to you, is that we’re talking about it? You want us to pretend the hardship doesn’t exist just to protect Tinubu’s image? That’s not patriotism; that’s delusion.

helinus, criticizing failure isn’t hatred it’s accountability. If you loved Nigeria as much as you love defending incompetence, we might actually see progress.
PoliticsNigerians Poorer Now Than 1960 – El-Rufai Tells FG How To End Poverty by Ofunaofu(op): 7:52am On Sep 07, 2025
Former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has insisted that there are more poor Nigerians now than during the country’s independence in 1960.

El-Rufai said if the Nigerian government makes it a priority, it can end poverty like China and India which are in the process of beating the menace.

The key member of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, disclosed this during an interactive session in Owerri, Imo State.

In his speech posted on his X page, the former governor said: “For the sake of our people, we need to have a roadmap for beating mass poverty.

“It is deeply embarrassing that, judging from the population estimate in 1960, there are now more poor Nigerians than there were Nigerians at independence 65 years ago. China has beaten mass poverty, while India is on a path to ending it.

“We too can do it, if we make it a governance priority to move our people out of poverty.”

El-Rufai said Nigeria needs a pragmatic economic programme to move citizens out of poverty.

He noted that rather than create agencies on humanitarian affairs, the Federal government should explore innovative ways of making honest Nigerians more hardworking.

The former governor also dismissed the get-rich-quick syndrome.

He said: “We need an economic programme to achieve this important human goal, a programme that is pragmatic in execution but ambitious in its goal.

“In this regard, what is needed is not new agencies of poverty alleviation or ‘humanitarian affairs’ with a massive bureaucracy, but innovative ways to make honest, hardworking citizens more productive and better-rewarded, while discouraging rent-seeking and other ‘get-rich-quick’ schemes in our society.”

PoliticsJonathan Opens Up On Eligibility To Run Again: I Am Unstoppable by Ofunaofu(op): 7:45am On Sep 07, 2025
•Judge speaks on APC, INEC’s failure to defend suit against ex-president

•Inside court document

The controversy over the eligibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan to join the 2027 presidential race took a twist last week when it emerged that a court had cleared the obstacle to his being sworn in for the third time as president.

Critics had cited Section 137(3) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) which provides that no elected person into public office in Nigeria shall be sworn-in more than twice, basing their argument on the former president’s swearing-in in 2010 after his predecessor, the late President Umaru Yar’Adua, died in office, and 2011 when he won his own election. He left office in 2025 after losing reelection and the Section 137(3) wasn’t law until 2018, three years later, triggering the argument on whether or not the law can apply to him retroactively.

Significantly, some leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are pushing for him to contest on the platform of the party the 2027 presidential election.

Sunday Vanguard obtained the judgment of the Federal High Court Yenagoa which heard the case and the trial judge, Hon. Justice Isa H. Dashen, while reviewing the submissions made before him on May 27, 2022, quoted copiously from the Counter-Affidavit in which Jonathan made his case, saying he could not be legally stopped from participating in presidential election in the future based on Section 137(3) of the Constitution.

Dashen agreed with the former president’s position.

Curiously, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which were both joined as Defendants in the suit filed by two persons who described themselves as APC members (Andy Solomon and Ibidiye Abraham), failed to make appearances despite being served with all the processes, forcing the presiding judge to remark that they agreed with all the facts of the case as pleaded by the Plaintiffs and Jonathan who was the First Defendant.

On this, he noted: “As earlier stated, both 2nd and 3rd Defendants (APC and INEC) did not file any processes in response or reaction thereto despite service of the Originating process on them.

“In the locus classicus case of OYEYIPO VS OYINLOYE (1987) I

NWLR (Part 50) 350, the Apex Court held thus: ‘A Defendant who fails to enter appearance or file Counter-Affidavit in response to the averments in support of the Originating Summons would be presumed to have Demurred and admitted the facts deposed to in the Affidavit filed in support Originating Summons.

“See the recent case of FUTMINA & ORS VS OLUTAYO (2017)

LPELR- 43827 (SC) and CHEVRON (NIG) LTD VS IMO STATE

HOUSE OF ASSEMBLY AND ORS (2016) LPELR- 41563 (CA) where the Appellate Courts confirmed the above position”.

The Jonathan case
Dashen, in his judgment while referring to Jonathan’s Counter-Affidavit in which he made his case, said: “The 1st Defendant’s Counter-Affidavit is of Twelve (12) paragraphs and is deposed to by one Engr. Peletiri John Debetimi who described himself as an Assistant to the 1st Defendant.

“One (1) exhibit marked as Exhibit EKOI was annexed to the said Counter-Affidavit.

“Exhibit EKOI is a copy of the Official Gazette containing the 4th Alteration to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999.

“In summary, the 1st Defendant’s response, as stated in his Counter-

Affidavit, is that he has never been ‘elected’ into the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on Two (2) previous occasions.

“The 1st Defendant stated that the oath of office he took on the 6th of May, 2010 was taken upon his ‘Election’ as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The 1st Defendant further asserted that he took the said oath to complete the aborted tenure of the late President Umar Yar’ Adua.

“The 1st Defendant referred the Court to the decision of the Court of Appeal in the case of CYRIACUS NJOKU VS.GOODLUCK EBELE JONATHAN (2015) LPELR-24496 wherein the Court of Appeal held that the oath of office he took on 6th May, 2010 cannot be taken into account in the interpretation of the provisions of Section 137(1) (b) of the Constitution. “The 1st Defendant, thereafter, stated that he has only been elected to the Office of President once and in year 2011.

“With respect to the provisions of Section 137(3) of the Constitution, the 1st Defendant stated that from Exhibit EKOI (i.e. the Official Gazette of the 4th Alteration of the Constitution), ‘Commencement’ date of the said amendment to the provisions of Section 137 of the Constitution therein contained is said to be ‘7th Day of June, 2018’. “Therefore, the 1st Defendant contended that the amendment introduced by sub-section (3) of Section 137 of the Constitution came into effect and became operational from 7th June, 2018.

“On the basis of the foregoing, the Defendant contended that since he took the first oath of office as President in year 2010 and the second oath of office in year 2011 respectively, the 4th Alteration of the Constitution which took effect from th June, 2018 cannot be applied retrospectively to prevent him from exercising his right to contest for the Office of President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which said right accrued to him since year 2015 before the 4th Alteration to the Constitution was effected.

Three questions
“In his written address, the 1st Defendant formulated three (3) questions for the determination of this Court.

“Whilst the 1st Defendant adopted questions 2 and 3 submitted by the Plaintiffs, he re-phrased question 1 submitted by the Plaintiffs.

“Therefore, the questions submitted by the Plaintiffs and the 1st Defendant are congruent and are not substantially different.

“The questions submitted by the 1st Defendant read as follows:

1. Whether in view of the provisions of:

a. Section 137(1)(b) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered); and

b. Section 137 (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered) (as contained in the 4th Alteration (No.16) Act 2017), the 1st Defendant is qualified to contest for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2023 General Elections.

2. If the answer to 1 above is in the affirmative, then: Whether the

2nd Defendant is entitled to field the 1st Defendant as its presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections.

3. Whether the 3rd Defendant is entitled to disqualify the 1st Defendant from contesting and/or from 2nd Defendant’s presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections.

“Again, at paragraphs 4.00 4.05 of his written address, the 1st Defendant raised a Preliminary Point challenging the locus standi of the Plaintiffs to institute the instant suit.

“I shall deal with this preliminary point whilst considering the substantive Originating Summons.

“On the basis of the foregoing, the 1st Defendant asserted that he is eminently qualified to contest for and/or nominated for election into the Office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“The 1st Defendant therefore urged the Court to discountenance the Plaintiffs’ contentions and answer the questions submitted in the Originating Summons in his favour and against the Plaintiffs and refuse the reliefs sought for by the Plaintiffs”.

For the part of the Plaintiffs, the questions they wanted resolved by the court, according to the judge, are:

1. Whether, in view of the provisions of Section 137(1)(b) and (3) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 (as altered) and the fact that the 1st Defendant had earlier been sworn-in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in 2010 and 2011 respectively, the 1st Defendant is qualified to contest for the office of the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the 2023 General Elections to be organized by the 3rd Defendant (INEC).

2. If the answer to 1 above is in the negative, then: Whether the 2nd

Defendant (APC) is entitled to field the 1st Defendant as its presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections.

3. Whether the 3rd Defendant (INEC) is entitled to disqualify the 1st Defendant (Jonathan) from contesting and/or from being presented as the 2nd Defendant’s (APC) presidential candidate in the 2023 General Elections.

Juxtaposition
Reading his judgment, Justice Dashen said: “Having carefully considered the arguments of the parties, I am of the view that the determination of the application or otherwise of the provisions of sub-section (3) of Section 137 of the Constitution to the 1st Defendant lies on the juxtaposition of the date when the 1st Defendant claims to have acquired his present right to be sworn-in as President and the date on which sub- section (3) of Section 137 of the Constitution took effect.

“The starting point is to acknowledge the fact that sub-section (3) of

Section 137 of the Constitution was not originally part of the corpus of the Constitution. Sub-section (3) of Section 137 of the Constitution was introduced by the 4th Alteration to the said Constitution.

“Although the 1st Defendant attached the Official Gazette wherein this alteration was published as Exhibit EKO I (i.e. Exhibit) to his Counter-Affidavit, this Court is empowered to take judicial notice of the law by virtue of the provisions of Section 122(2)(a) of the Evidence Act 2011. A cursory look at Exhibit EKO1 (i.e. Exhibit) will reveal that the 4th Alteration introduced a restriction with regard to the number of times a person, sworn-in as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to complete the term for which another person was elected, can be sworn-in as President after completing the remainder of the said term.

“Sub- section (3) of Section 137 of the Constitution states that any person who was so sworn-in shall, after completing the term of such other person, be eligible to be only elected to the office of President for a single term.

“Further scrutiny of Exhibit EKOI (i.e. Exhibit) also reveals that the 4th Alteration was enacted by the National Assembly in 2017; however, the ‘commencement’ date for same was expressly set for ‘7th Day of June, 2018’.

“Having the benefit of reading the Official Gazette (i.e. Exhibit ÉKO1), I therefore have no difficulty in holding that provisions of subsection (3) of Section 137 of the Constitution took effect from 7th June, 2018. And I so hold”.

.....Over Demolitions, Vows To Occupy Empty Estates

In a press statement released on Friday, the coalition accused the Minister of pursuing a policy of “land grabbing” disguised as urban development, warning that continued demolitions risk worsening the housing crisis and deepening the suffering of low-income residents in Nigeria’s capital.

Acoalition of progressive and socialist groups under the banner Network of Abuja Left Groups has strongly condemned the recent wave of demolitions being carried out by the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under the leadership of Minister Nyesom Wike.

In a press statement released on Friday, the coalition accused the Minister of pursuing a policy of “land grabbing” disguised as urban development, warning that continued demolitions risk worsening the housing crisis and deepening the suffering of low-income residents in Nigeria’s capital.

The group launched the campaign hashtag #StopWikeLandGrab, and announced plans to mobilise victims of demolitions to occupy uninhabited estates in Abuja, which they allege are owned by politically connected elites.

“We strongly condemn the continued demolition of homes and livelihoods in Abuja by the FCTA, led by Minister Nyesom Wike,” the statement read.

“The recent threat to persist with demolitions… represents a dangerous threat to the welfare and rights of thousands of residents. It will render us homeless and exacerbate the city’s housing crisis.”

The coalition criticised Wike’s characterisation of informal settlement dwellers as "criminals," calling the claim “unsupported by evidence” and “a stigmatisation of the urban poor.”

They argued that the demolitions ignore the root causes of poverty and insecurity in Abuja and instead reflect an approach that prioritises cosmetic urban policies over human dignity and long-term social planning.

“Rather than addressing urban poverty, Wike’s policies appear to criminalise it,” the statement said.

“A government that wants to reduce poverty and insecurity in a sustainable manner will invest in the welfare of its citizens.”

The group also faulted the structure of governance in the FCT, highlighting the appointment-based nature of its leadership as undemocratic.

“It is no surprise that Wike’s approach prioritises short-term political gains over long-term solutions. The FCT deserves a leader chosen by its people, not appointed from above,” the statement noted.

Citing examples from successful slum upgrading initiatives in other countries, the coalition called for inclusive urban planning that integrates the needs of low-income residents, as well as investment in affordable housing, job training, and education programmes.

They further accused the Minister of failing to address pending allegations of land acquisition on a massive scale, alleging that some of the lands acquired rival the size of local government areas.

The coalition backed the Senate’s recent recommendation that demolitions in the FCT be halted unless backed by court orders but insisted that this does not go far enough.

“We demand an immediate halt to all demolitions until the FCTA provides adequate alternative housing solutions for all residents of the FCT,” the group said.

In a bold move, the Network announced its intention to occupy vacant luxury estates across Abuja if demolitions persist, positioning their action as a response to the “commodification” of housing in the capital.

“We reject every attempt to turn houses in Abuja into speculative assets instead of homes for people to live in,” the group declared.

The statement was endorsed by 10 activists and leaders from affiliated civil rights and socialist organisations, including the Revolutionary Socialist Movement, Socialist Workers League, ASCAB, Civil Rights Council, Democratic Socialist Movement, and others..

PoliticsLeave Our Leaders Alone, Face Bandits – ADC Tells Police, Federal Gov’t by Ofunaofu(op): 7:48pm On Sep 06, 2025
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has expressed grave concern over the increasing use of law enforcement agencies to harass and intimidate opposition leaders, while criminal violence continues to devastate communities across the country.

The party condemned the police summons issued to former governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, as well as the attack on the former Attorney General of the Federation, Abubakar Malami’s convoy in Kebbi State, which left many party members injured and terrified.

In a statement signed by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the national publicity secretary of the ADC, the party described these developments as an assault not just on individual politicians, but on Nigeria’s democracy itself. It warned that the Nigeria Police Force had seemingly become a willing tool of political suppression for the federal government rather than a national security department, that is truly focused on rooting out bandits and other criminals across the country.

It added that at a time when terrorists and criminal gangs freely operate in large parts of the North, the Nigeria Police appeared more interested in silencing opposition leaders than protecting citizens.

The ADC said these acts by the police were not isolated, but represent a systematic attempt to criminalise opposition politics, especially in states where the ruling party feels threatened by the growing influence of the ADC.

aremubabs:
There is no time from 1999 to date when we could have made top 10.

You people should stop blaming only APC. Or was it under APC that Christian girls were kidnapped in Chibok? Or Boko Haram were taking territories? Was it APC that conducted the 2007 election which international observers described as the worst election in living memory? Nigeria has always been badly governed right from 1999 or even way before 1999. Corruption. Insecurity. Wastage. Rising poverty. Public service corruption (look at the privatization programme under OBJ-Atiku).
Yes, the classic “Nigeria has always been bad” excuse as if that somehow justifies the current disaster. So because previous governments failed, Tinubu now has a license to be even worse?

Let’s be clear: nobody is denying Nigeria’s long-standing issues. But the whole point of elections is to vote in leaders who will solve problems not recycle suffering and slap a new hashtag on it like #RenewedShege.

Tinubu campaigned on so-called competence, experience, and the myth that he “built Lagos from scratch.” He promised Renewed Hope but what we got instead is Renewed Shege and hopelessness, turbocharged poverty, a currency in free fall, and a government that treats gaslighting like official policy.

And no, Chibok didn’t happen under APC. But under APC, we got Dapchi. We got terrorists who graduated from motorcycles to coordinated prison breaks, mass kidnappings, razed towns, aerial attacks and now even flaunt ransom money on social media.

Today, under Tinubu, insecurity is the worst it’s ever been and Nigerians are being bled dry by economic hardship layered on top of fear.

So please, stop dragging 2007 into 2025 just to deflect from your current messiah’s failures. If Tinubu is truly “the best thing since sliced bread,” then Nigeria wouldn’t be looking and burning like charcoal toast

No president in our history has unleashed this level of hunger, hardship, confusion, and deceit on the people all dressed up as 'economic reforms'. What we’ve gotten is propaganda instead of policy, and poverty instead of progress.

Having failed so woefully and so spectacularly, it’s no surprise that their latest trick is to guilt-trip Nigerians with lines like “let the South finish eight years” or “it’s the South’s turn.” But that playbook is dead on arrival. Even they know it won’t fly.

And Tinubu, of all people, has zero moral ground to preach about a “southern turn.” This is the same man who joined hands with political desperados and power-hungry buccaneers to sabotage Goodluck Jonathan a fellow southerner and deny the South an unbroken eight-year tenure. ....tell Tinubu

Callers on two private radio stations in Calabar have urged President Bola Tinubu to cut down on frequent foreign trips, accusing him of wasting scarce national resources.

President Tinubu spent some two weeks in Japan and Brazil with a very large entourage two weeks ago.

A month before, he was in France and the UK on medical grounds. Today, he flew out to Europe for another two-week holiday.

During early morning phone-in programmes on Sparkling FM and FAD FM, many participants faulted the president’s constant travels abroad, urging him instead to patronise tourist destinations within Nigeria.

One asked: Why can’t the president visit his own village or other states?

“Incessant foreign travels drain the nation’s resources,” one caller said, echoing the sentiments of several others.

Effiom Otu, a caller from Akamkpa, argued that the president has spent more time overseas than in Nigerian states.

“The president hardly visits states or spends a night here. Yet he prefers Europe and other countries for holidays.

We have Obudu Mountain Resort, which he even directed Governor Bassey Otu to refurbish for his use. Let him come to Obudu. It is called our own Camp David, fit for him,” he said.

Similarly, David Imoh from Akpabuyo LGA invited Tinubu to experience nature’s gifts in Obudu, stressing that such a gesture would promote Nigeria’s image.

“If the president holidays here, it will encourage foreign leaders and dignitaries to appreciate what God has given us. But instead, he wastes resources on weekly foreign trips. Can a U.S. president afford to spend two weeks on holiday in another country?” he asked.

Imoh further noted that the money expended on the president’s travels could rehabilitate long-abandoned federal roads in Cross River and Akwa Ibom, including the dilapidated Calabar-Uyo highway.

Chief Akpan Ime from Calabar South also criticised the timing of the president’s trips, saying the economic hardships facing families were worsening as schools prepare to reopen.

“Youths are unemployed, and parents are struggling to raise money for fees and books as schools resume next week. These foreign trips are an insult to our suffering,” he lamented.

I hope you know you can be picked up and asked to provide evidence for this comment.

Remember: "others said it cannot be used to keep you out of prison".
So proving authoritarianism now requires evidence but threatening citizens for criticism doesn’t?

As long as it's not affecting the running of the government, who cares
If the government is running well without him, why are we paying him to lead it? Why is he still in office? We might as well make vacation the official job description.

PoliticsInec’s ‘technical Glitches’ Has Given Nigeria ‘vacation’ President – Dalung by Ofunaofu(op): 8:12am On Sep 05, 2025
Former Minister of Sports, Solomon Dalung, has criticised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s departure to Europe for a working vacation.

Dalung described Tinubu as a “vacation president” produced by the Independent National Electoral Commission’s, INEC, “technical glitches.”

DAILY POST reported that the Presidency had announced that Tinubu departed Abuja on September 4 to begin a 10-day working vacation in Europe as part of his 2025 annual leave.

According to a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Tinubu will spend the period between France and the United Kingdom before returning to Nigeria.

In a post on X on Thursday, Dalung said the outcome of the 2023 elections had left the country with a leader who prioritises leisure while Nigerians face worsening insecurity.

“This is the tragic outcome of INEC’s so-called technical glitches — a conspiracy that has produced a vacation president whose idea of a social contract with Nigerians is sheer entitlement.

“At a time of escalating insecurity, Tinubu chooses leisure in Europe while the nation drifts. Nigeria is on autopilot, navigating turbulence with clueless, sleeping pilots. Lord, have mercy on this country,” he wrote
