PoliticsAPC Suspends Senator Echocho Over Anti-Party Activities After Primary Defeat by Ofunaofu(op): 12:27pm On May 28
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Odu Ward 2 of Dekina Local Government Area, Kogi State, has suspended Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, who represents Kogi East Senatorial District, over alleged anti-party activities, days after his defeat in the party’s primary election.

The suspension followed a resolution reached by the Ward Executive Committee at a meeting held on May 26, 2026, according to party sources.

In a suspension letter signed by the Ward Chairman, Shaibu Mohammed; Secretary, Kabiru Mohammed; and other executives, the APC accused Senator Echocho of engaging in actions that could undermine the unity and stability of the party after losing his re-election bid.

The ward leadership alleged that the senator held meetings and consultations with opposition figures and was planning to leave the party following what it described as his “rejection by the party and the people” over an alleged third-term ambition.

The letter said the party could no longer tolerate actions it considered harmful to its electoral strength and internal cohesion in Kogi East.

It also accused Echocho of working against the APC despite serving on its platform for eight years as senator representing the district.

Party officials further alleged that the senator failed to deliver his polling unit during the 2019 and 2023 governorship elections and did not provide strong leadership during key political contests in the state.

Speaking after the suspension was announced, APC chieftain Mallam Nasiru Musa said the decision was necessary to protect the party’s integrity and future in the area.

"After his defeat at the APC primary election, Senator Echocho’s actions became more troubling and openly confrontational to the party. The APC cannot continue to accommodate individuals who work against its collective interest simply because their personal ambitions were not realized,” Musa said.

He added that the senator’s performance over the past eight years had not met the expectations of many constituents in Kogi East.

Some stakeholders and party members in the district commended the ward executives for what they described as a bold move aimed at enforcing discipline and unity within the APC.

The suspension letter stated that the action would serve as a warning to other members whose conduct may threaten the party’s cohesion and electoral strength in Kogi State

PoliticsAPC Aspirant Breaks Down In Tears After Spending ₦10 Million On Imo Primary by Ofunaofu(op): 11:56am On May 28
APC Aspirant Breaks Down in Tears After Allegedly Spending ₦10 Million on Imo Primary — Ticket Reportedly Given to Woman “Who Never Bought Form”

Fresh controversy has erupted within the All Progressives Congress in Imo State after an unnamed aspirant from Ahiazu Mbaise publicly accused the party of rigging its State House of Assembly primary election process.
The visibly emotional aspirant, whose video has now gone viral across X and other social media platforms, alleged that despite spending more than ₦10 million on nomination and expression of interest forms, the party allegedly handed the ticket to another aspirant who never purchased any form.

In the emotional clip, the man lamented what he described as “criminality” within the primary process, claiming that six aspirants paid for forms and participated in the race, only for the ticket to allegedly be awarded to Doris Anyanwu.

According to him, the woman was never part of the original contestants who bought forms for the Ahiazu Mbaise constituency primary.

“This is criminality! I spent over ₦10 million. They skipped all six of us who bought forms and gave it to somebody who didn’t buy anything,” the aspirant cried out in the viral video while displaying his academic degree certificate.

He also alleged that beyond the official nomination and expression of interest fees, aspirants were subjected to multiple unofficial payments and “facilitation” demands throughout the process.

The aspirant vowed not to accept the outcome quietly and called on party leaders to intervene and investigate the matter.

The allegations have triggered widespread debate online, with many Nigerians pointing to the incident as another example of the high cost, lack of transparency, and alleged godfather influence often associated with Nigerian politics.

However, the Imo State chapter of the APC has denied the allegations.
In a statement issued by Prince Uwalaka Chimaroke, the party described the complainant as a “disgruntled aspirant” and insisted that the State House of Assembly primaries were conducted transparently using a direct primary system.
According to the party, all winners emerged through votes cast by accredited party members, dismissing claims of imposition or manipulation.

The incident has nonetheless reignited criticism about the financial burden of contesting elections in Nigeria, where party nomination forms for legislative positions often cost millions of naira.

PoliticsEid Prayers Turn Tense As Worshippers Chant Anti-APC Slogans In Ilorin by Ofunaofu(op): 6:52am On May 28

Worshippers Chant ‘APC, AbdulRahman Went Down’ As Kwara Governor Attends Eid Prayers In Ilorin

Scores of worshippers and residents at the Ilorin Central Eid praying ground on Wednesday erupted in anti-government chants directed at the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, during Eid prayers in Ilorin.

The chants reportedly broke out as the governor’s convoy struggled to navigate through the massive crowd gathered for the annual Eid-el-Kabir prayers in the Kwara State capital.

In a video obtained by SaharaReporters, sections of the crowd were seen and heard repeatedly chanting in Yoruba, “APC wọlé lọ bi awada bi ère,” meaning “APC went down like a joke,” while others shouted that "Ramoni wole lọ b awada bi ere, meaning “AbdulRahman went down like a joke,” a rare open display of political dissatisfaction at a major public religious gathering in the state.

The development comes amid growing political tension and intensified realignments ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kwara State.

The political situation in the state escalated as the ruling APC reportedly settled on the Speaker of the Kwara State House of Assembly, Yakubu Danladi, who is believed to be a close ally and political protégé of Governor AbdulRazaq, as its preferred governorship candidate.

Meanwhile, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has reportedly announced former Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Bolakale Kawu, as its candidate for the forthcoming governorship contest.

However, the chants at the Eid ground signal growing frustration among residents over insecurity, economic hardship, governance issues, and internal political divisions within the ruling party.

SaharaReporters previously reported that suspected bandits on Sunday invaded Yashikira community in Baruten Local Government Area of Kwara State, setting the Emir’s palace ablaze and abducting several residents, including women, children and some of the Emir’s wives.

Residents told SaharaReporters that the heavily armed attackers stormed the border community late at night, firing sporadically before launching the assault on the palace and nearby homes.

Sources said the assailants overpowered local vigilantes and operated for hours without resistance as terrified residents fled into nearby bushes for safety.

According to eyewitnesses, the gunmen first attacked the palace, where they reportedly set parts of the building on fire before whisking away multiple victims.

Don’t say it can never happen in the south east, of course it can. Leadership doesn’t just fall from the sky. When you live in a community and actively participate in its socio-political activities, people naturally begin to trust and recognize you. That’s how leadership positions come.

But when you isolate yourself from the socio-political life of the community you live in, don’t expect leadership positions to come looking for you.

Zaccheus Okoro must have actively participated in the community he found himself in, and that is why the people of Ise/Ikere-Ekiti found him worthy of political office, irrespective of his tribe.
PoliticsZaccheus Toyin Okoro Defeats Serving APC Rep Member For Ise/Ikere-Ekiti by Ofunaofu(op): 8:55am On May 27
In a laudable feat, the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ekiti State Chapter, has announced an Igbo man, Zaccheus Okoro, as its Candidate for one of the Federal Constituencies in the State.

Okoro won the House of Representative ticket in Ekiti State during the APC Primary in Ekiti State. If he wins at the polls, he will represent Ise/Ikere-Ekiti South-West Federal Constituency 1 at the Green Chamber.

This however looked strange to several people, who are to come to the reality of an Igbo man winning the APC ticket in a State like Ekiti.

Ironically, he defeated the incumbent Representative Member who is a full son of Ekiti State, and a Military Officer, Vice Marshall Rufus Adeniyi Ojuawo, Rtd.

Locals said Okoro defeated Ojuawo because the incumbent member of the House of Representatives failed to meet the aspirations of his Constituents.

According to them, “Okoro is more accessible. He is one of us. In Yorubaland, once you have been tested and confirmed to possess the omoluabi trait, you can get to the apex of your career. Okoro is found to be reliable, honest and loyal to the values and heritage of Yoruba people.

“The support for him during the primary was overwhelming,” Musa Adekunle an indigene of the town told stated.

Okoro polled 9,978 votes to defeat Ojuawo who scored 1,842 votes during the APC primary.

Another local said, “I can assure you that Okoro will win. He has the support of the entire people of not just his constituency, but the whole of Ekiti State”.

It was gathered that the Traditional Rulers and the State Governor are with Okoro.

According to him, ”Nigeria may be divided along bitter ethnic lines, but the Yoruba should continue to defend its tradition of merit and fairness in political and economic relations.”

Okoro’s mother is said to be from one of the South West States.

PoliticsADC Reacts To Amaechi’s Accusation Of Rigging Presidential Primaries by Ofunaofu(op): 7:53am On May 27
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has urged former Rivers State governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and businessman, Mohammed Hayatu-Deen, to channel their grievances over the party’s presidential primary through established party structures and statutory electoral processes.

Naija News reports that the party said the aspirants should avoid making public allegations while the collation of results from the nationwide direct primary was still ongoing.

The ADC National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, stated this on Tuesday while speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today.

Abdullahi said there was currently no evidence to support claims that the presidential primary was rigged in favour of former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar.

He noted that since collation had not been concluded, it was too early to confirm or dismiss the allegations raised by some aspirants.

Abdullahi stated, “We currently do not have sufficient evidence to either support or dismiss those claims. Since the results are still being collated, we have not observed any clear pattern that would substantiate such allegations.

“At this stage, we do not have enough information to conclusively say whether the allegations are true or false. We expect to have a clearer picture by the end of the day.”

The ADC conducted a nationwide direct primary on Monday to select its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.

Although the party had yet to officially announce final results from all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (ADC) as of press time, early figures showed Atiku leading.

Amaechi was in second position, while Hayatu-Deen was in third place.

Abdullahi said the ADC had established internal and statutory mechanisms to address complaints arising from the exercise.

He urged aggrieved aspirants to use the available channels to seek redress.

ADC Dismisses Factional Claims
The ADC spokesman also reacted to reports of a parallel faction within the party, saying the leadership was not disturbed.

According to him, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) recognises the current National Working Committee as the legitimate body conducting the party’s congresses and primaries.

“The party leadership is not disturbed by the claims. INEC is fully aware of who is conducting the legitimate convention of the African Democratic Congress, and under the law, the genuine organisers are clearly recognised,” he said.

Abdullahi said INEC officials had monitored all stages of the ADC’s electoral processes.

“INEC has attended and monitored all our congresses and primary elections across the 36 states and the FCT. Every stage of the process has been fully documented by INEC officials,” he said.

He expressed confidence that electoral officials would continue to be present at the collation centre, adding that the party had no concerns about legitimacy or oversight

Adewole Adebayo: Tinubu Wants To Act As Chairman Of INEC, Part-Time Chief Justice Of Nigeria

Social Democratic Party presidential candidate, Adewole Adebayo, has accused President Bola Tinubu of attempting to interfere in opposition political parties and undermine democratic competition ahead of the 2027 general election.

Speaking in an interview on ARISE News on Tuesday, Adebayo alleged that the president was trying to control activities within opposition parties while also influencing institutions meant to remain independent.

“You can’t be candidate general of the opposition. You have to stick to your own party,” Adebayo said.

“The president wants to belong to every political party, also act as the chairman of INEC, and the part-time chief justice of Nigeria.”

Adebayo made the remarks while responding to questions about reported divisions within the SDP and claims by another individual Akinbola Atanda that he was also a presidential candidate of the party.

The SDP candidate dismissed the claim, insisting that the party did not recognise Atanda as a member or aspirant.

“We don’t know him in the SDP. We don’t know him,” he said.

“Well, I could say I’m the Pope, but I’m not. You see, the Catholics know who’s the Pope.”

Adebayo further accused the Tinubu administration of attempting to weaken opposition parties through alleged political interference.

“I know President Tinubu is the author of all of this drama,” he said.

According to him, the ruling APC was unwilling to allow open political competition.

“The whole idea is not to have competition,” Adebayo said.

“And they want to master that by having pseudo candidates in other political parties and have a coronation.”

He also criticised the conduct of APC primaries, claiming the governing party was only pretending to hold democratic contests.

Federal High Court remands retired General Garba Gololo in Kuje prison over alleged cyberstalking and defamatory video claims.

A Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of retired Major General Garba Gololo at the Kuje Correctional Centre after he pleaded not guilty to a seven-count charge bordering on alleged cyberstalking, defamation and incitement linked to comments about Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Justice Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia adjourned the matter until June 15 for hearing of Gololo’s bail application and ordered that he remain in custody pending the hearing.

Gololo was arraigned by the Inspector-General of Police over allegations that a viral video and Facebook posts attributed to him violated provisions of the Cybercrimes Act and the Penal Code.

The charges stem from a video in which Gololo allegedly claimed that Akpabio said northerners must vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 election or risk being expelled from Nigeria.

He pleaded not guilty to all seven counts.

The office of the Senate President denied the allegation, describing the claims as false and malicious.

Counsel to Gololo, Mohammed Habu, appeared in court on behalf of the retired military officer during the proceedings

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned one Igoin Tokoni Peter before a Federal High Court in Abuja over alleged fraud and impersonation.

Peter was arraigned on Friday before Justice Obiora Egwuatu on a four-count charge bordering on impersonation and obtaining money under false pretence.

The EFCC alleged that the defendant posed as a special adviser to President Bola Tinubu on ICT development and digital innovation.Presidential election coverage

According to the anti-graft agency, Peter allegedly obtained N25.9 million from Dontown Assets Limited under the pretence of securing a cryptocurrency exchange operational licence.

“That you, Igoin Tokoni Peter, sometime between 30th August, 2024 and 30th October, 2025 in Abuja within the jurisdiction of the Federal High Court with the intent to defraud, obtained the aggregate sum of N25,941,787.00,” the charge reads.

The EFCC alleged that the money was received through the account of Smartz Skyward Energy Limited domiciled with Zenith Bank.

The commission further alleged that Peter falsely claimed to be a special assistant to the president on ICT development and digital innovations.

In another count, the EFCC accused the defendant of obtaining N19.8 million from Jeriod Limited under similar pretences.

The anti-graft agency said the offences contravened provisions of the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006. Peter pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

Following his plea, Christopher Mshelia, counsel to the EFCC, asked the court to fix a trial date and remand the defendant in Kuje correctional centre pending trial.

However, in his ruling, Justice Egwuatu granted the defendant bail in the sum of N400 million with two sureties in like sum.

The judge ruled that the sureties must be Abuja residents, while one must own landed property and provide relevant documents, passport photographs and means of identification.

The court also directed that the second surety must be a civil servant on grade level 15 who must provide official identification and passport photographs.

Egwuatu ordered that the defendant be remanded in Kuje correctional centre pending the fulfilment of the bail conditions. The matter was adjourned to July 16, 2026, for commencement of trial
