PoliticsRe: Insecurity: You’ve The Right To Defend Yourselves – Presidency Tells Nigerians by Ofunaofu: 9:19am On May 21
During Goodluck Jonathan’s administration, Tinubu said, the buck stops with the President on matters of insecurity, and even advised Jonathan to resign over it.

Today, under Tinubu, Nigeria is facing an even worse security crisis, arguably the worst in its history. Suddenly, the buck no longer stops with the President. Tinubu is not taking the same advice he once gave, and Nigerians are now being told by the presidency to defend themselves with lethal weapons.

Never in our history have we had a government so detached from the people and so unwilling to take responsibility.

Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Scam mandate is now a mandate of death.

PoliticsAtiku Unveils Economic Rescue, Security Plans At ADC Screening by Ofunaofu(op): 11:18pm On May 20
Former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, on Wednesday used his appearance before the presidential screening panel of the African Democratic Congress to unveil what he described as a bold economic recovery agenda and a comprehensive security strategy aimed at tackling Nigeria’s worsening economic and security crises.

Atiku appeared before the party’s screening panel in Abuja as part of the ADC’s preparations for its presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued shortly after the exercise by his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, Phrank Shaibu, the former Vice President said the engagement went beyond a routine party process, describing it as an opportunity to present “a practical and urgent pathway” for rescuing the country from economic hardship and rising insecurity.

According to the statement, Atiku told the panel that Nigeria was at a critical crossroads, warning that the country could no longer sustain policies that deepen poverty, discourage investment, and leave citizens exposed to violent attacks.

“He stated that Nigeria cannot continue on the current trajectory where families struggle daily under crushing hardship, businesses collapse under policy uncertainty, and investor confidence continues to erode in the absence of coherent economic leadership,” the statement read.

The former presidential candidate said his economic blueprint would focus on job creation, expansion of the private sector, fiscal discipline, macroeconomic stability, and policies designed to restore investor confidence in Africa’s largest economy.

Atiku also raised concerns over the security situation across the country, citing persistent attacks by bandits, kidnappers, and insurgent groups in several parts of Nigeria.

According to him, “no responsible government can stand by while citizens are slaughtered in their communities and others abducted on highways, farms, and even in their homes.”

He said his proposed security framework would prioritise intelligence-driven operations, stronger collaboration among security agencies, decentralised policing structures, and decisive political leadership in confronting criminal networks.

“At this defining moment in our national life, Nigeria does not need experiments. It needs tested leadership, clarity of vision, and the courage to make difficult but necessary decisions in the national interest,” Atiku said.

“He reaffirmed his unwavering commitment to building a secure, united, and prosperous Nigeria where every citizen can live in peace and pursue opportunity with dignity,” the statement added.

Atiku, who served as Vice President between 1999 and 2007, has remained a dominant figure in opposition politics and has contested for the presidency multiple times. His latest move comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 election cycle, with opposition figures seeking broader coalitions to challenge the ruling establishment

“Ganduje Promised Power-Sharing Formula Before My Defection, But It Was Never Done" — Sen. Ned Nwoko

According to a report by Arise News, on Wednesday May 20, 2026, the internal crisis rocking the Delta State chapter of the All Burgers Congress (APC) has taken a sharper turn as the incumbent federal lawmaker representing Delta North Senatorial District, Senator Ned Nwoko, openly lamented the systemic sidelining of founding party members.

Nwoko warned that the influx of powerful new defectors into the state chapter has triggered a hostile takeover, completely upending internal party democracy and pushing foundational members into political irrelevance.

When asked by the interviewer if the current friction inside the party points to a wider national trend or an impending party implosion, Nwoko chose to focus strictly on the political terrain he knows best.

". I keep telling you that I can only talk about Delta," Senator Nwoko stated emphatically. "The fact is that the legacy APC members have been shoved aside and and the the new guys that came in took over practically everything.".

The friction stems from the fallout of the highly contentious Delta North primary election, where Nwoko claims his victory across the district's 98 wards was hijacked by state-level actors aligned with newly defected political heavyweights.

Nwoko revealed that before making his own transition to the ruling party, top national leaders including former National Chairman Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had explicitly promised that a structural power-sharing formula would protect the interests of both old and new party elements.

"We were assured that there will be some sharing formula, power sharing formula that the state exco [executive committee] will be dissolved and there will be nominations to enable the old APC to get a foothold into the government, but that was never done," Nwoko explained.

WizardOfNG:
I stand to be corrected but I am yet to see confirmation of Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso commending Nigeria and the PBAT government for the take down of ISIS second in command on Nigerian soul.

Additionally, I don't believe the 3 wannabe Presidents have said anything about the successful Nigeria-us Joint Airstrikes that Killed 175 ISIS Fighters.

Is this how to play politics? How can the fans of these guys justify continuing to support their aspiration?

Accuse Tinubu of anything but he always shows up to support what is in the bigger interest of Nigeria.

Atiku, Obi and Kwankwaso will make noise when a pin drops and highlight problems. Yet they are graveyard silent over successes recorded against terrorists.

Nigerians, put your thinking cap on. PBAT 2027. The way forward. 😎
Maybe put your thinking cap on first. If you did, you’d be asking Tinubu to follow his own advice and resign over the insecurity plaguing this country, the same advice he gave Goodluck Jonathan

Gbajabiamila: 'I Told Him It Would Be Very Cowardly Of Me To Leave A Group Of 37 People' - Elliot

Honourable Desmond Elliot, a lawmaker from Lagos State, has come clean about his role in the impeachment notice against Speaker Mudashiru Obasa. Elliot told Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila that it would have been courageous to stand by the 37 colleagues who had already signed the notice.

In an interview with Channels TV, Elliot discussed the situation, explaining that he had warned the other person that it would be extremely courageous of him to lead a group of 37 people across the river without their support. You know, the president himself has declared that this issue is now moot. I find it strange that my leader is bringing this up now, given the current climate.

The congressman for Surulere 1 made it clear that he still holds Gbajabiamila in high regard, calling him a leader whose advice he has always sought, especially when it came to important House issues and choices.

Gbajabiamila did communicate with him during that period, he stated, but he never asked him to publicly announce that he is not involved in the impeachment move against Speaker Mudashiru Obasa

The north has never voted based on performance. El rifai helped Tinubu during the primaries. If El rufai is so popular, he would deliver kaduna. Badaru delivered Gombe, Yari delivered zamfara, shettima Borno. What stopped El rufai?
Funny how performance suddenly stopped mattering the moment it became Tinubu.

Is Tinubu now a northerner? Or are you still hoping the Muslim-Muslim ticket magic from 2023 will work again?

Anyway, 2027 is close. Reality has a delivery date.

Did Deji travel around the whole sokoto? Is Atiku popular in the north? The north only listens to buhari and no one else. El rifai played no role, he couldn't even deliver his state. Most northern governors are in APC. The most notable politicians up north are in APC. In sokoto, we have Wamakko. In Kebbi, we have Adamu Aliero. In zamfara we have Yari, Sani Yerima with Tinubu. In Jigawa, Badaru and Lamido. In Kano, we have Ganduje, Barau, gov Abba kabir. In kaduna, we have Hunkuyi, Yero and Sambo. Which notable politicians is with Atiku
You lie if you say Nasir El-Rufai played no role in delivering Tinubu 2023. Even Tinubu himself acknowledge his contribution in the early part of his administration. Agreed, he didn’t deliver his own state, but his influence across the North during that election was obvious.

All these politicians you mentioned that you claim are still with Tinubu, can they actually deliver their states for him today?

And more importantly, what exactly will they tell their people Tinubu has done to deserve another vote?

Or are we now pretending Tinubu’s performance over the last three years won’t be a deciding factor in 2027?

Svoboda:
You seem to discountenance the fact that Tinubu is very unpopular, and is increasingly unpopular, not least in the north. He has haemorrhaged votes already. 2ndly, saying that Atiku will lose votes to Gej in the NC is oversimplistic. This is because both have divergent vote bases. Atiku, unlike before, now appeals more to the majority fanatic than the minority liberal Muslim, basically because he is seen as the consensus political leader in the north after Buhari. Is it the fanatics you expect would abandon Atiku and vote Gej? Let me put it this way. Gej hurts Tinubu in the south, but hurts Obi in the north because they both appeal to the non Muslim voters in the NC.

Atiku will floor Tinubu in the Nw and NE. The north will vote skirt and blouse.
Thank you for schooling that fellow.

They still think this is 2023, when Nasir El-Rufai and northern APC governors were galvanizing the North to vote for Tinubu.

I asked him to mention just one notable northern APC leader or governor today who can mobilize the entire NW and NE for Tinubu the way they did in 2023.

Because Nigerians are already paying with inflated fuel prices, transport hikes, electricity tariffs, and unbearable living costs. The least this government can do is show transparent results instead of this talk of paying taxes

Tax Without Accountability Is Ransom”- Dele Farotimi Blasts Government Over Tax Comment

Dele Farotimi has criticized the government’s stance on taxation, arguing that citizens cannot be expected to trust a system that lacks accountability.
His “tax without accountability is ransom” comment sparked intense debate online about governance and transparency in Nigeria.

Human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has reacted to recent remarks attributed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu concerning taxation and national development.

In a statement that has sparked debate online, Farotimi argued that government cannot expect citizens to willingly embrace taxation without demonstrating accountability and transparency in the use of public funds.

According to him, demanding taxes from citizens while failing to account for how previous revenues were managed amounts to exploitation.

“The President is speaking about how citizens should not demand development if they’re unwilling to pay tax but he ignored the fact that he cannot demand tax if he’s unwilling to be accountable,” he said.

He further added:

“If you’re not accountable to those you’re taxing, what you can tax is essentially a ransom.”

His comments triggered widespread reactions on X (formerly Twitter), where many Nigerians debated the relationship between taxation, governance, and accountability
