PoliticsRe: Tinubu Restoring Stability, Hope To Nigeria – Okowa by Ofunaofu: 10:15am On Aug 19, 2025
Mynd44:
Okowa's defection is an indictment on Atiku's leadership and abikity to hold his ranks. It someone who was your running-mate can defect less than 2 years then something is seriously wrong somewhere
Mynd44, With all due respect, attributing Okowa’s defection to a failure of Atiku’s leadership is both intellectually lazy and politically dishonest. Let’s not pretend we don’t understand how Nigerian politics works especially under this calamitous and morálly bankrupt Tinubu administration.

Okowa was arrested by the EFCC on November 4, 2024, in connection with the alleged diversion of over ₦1.3 trillion in oil derivation funds during his tenure as Delta State governor from 2015 to 2023. He was also linked to an additional ₦40 billion LNG fund scandal. Fast forward a few months: Okowa defects to the APC, and surprise the once-vigorous corruption probe goes silent and trashed in a can

So let’s call this what it is: not a political indictment of Atiku, but a classic case of corruption laundering via defection a phenomenon that has become a trademark of the Tinubu APC-led government. Under Tinubu’s watch, the EFCC has become a revolving door for selective justice, where alleged looters find immunity through party loyalty.

If anything, Okowa’s defection is a damning reflection on theTinubu and APC’s credibility, not Atiku’s. After all, when a man facing fraud allegations worth trillions suddenly finds shelter in your party, it's not strength, it’s moral bankruptcy.

You pay either a CBN governor or the DG ten times more than you pay the President. That is just not right. Or you pay him [the head of an agency] twenty times higher than the Attorney-General of the Federation. That is absolutely not right.”

PoliticsRe: Falana To APC, PDP: Prove You’re Not Terrorist Groups, by Ofunaofu(op):
For the APC, it's going to be a difficult task.

The APC includes individuals who are terrorist sponsors, bandits, and killer herdsmen. Within its ranks are also those engaging in electoral banditry, promoting the infamous “snatch it, grab it, and run” strategy as well as electoral terrorism, political thuggery, and ballot box snatching.

Additionally, the party harbors individuals who routinely disregard the rule of law. This includes those involved in the unconstitutional removal of democratic institutions through the imposition of states of emergency not backed by law.
PoliticsFalana To APC, PDP: Prove You’re Not Terrorist Groups, by Ofunaofu(op): 9:25pm On Aug 18, 2025
.....urges FG to act on Canadian court ruling

Human rights lawyer and Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Femi Falana, has challenged the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to prove that they are not terrorist organisations, following a controversial ruling by a Canadian Federal Court which described both parties as entities that have engaged in conduct amounting to terrorism under Canadian law.

Falana made the call in a statement issued on Monday, urging Nigeria’s major political parties to address the serious concerns raised, instead of dismissing the judge’s pronouncements as ignorant or mischievous.

The Canadian judge, Justice Phuong Ngo, made the declaration while dismissing the asylum appeal of a Nigerian, Douglas Egharevba, ruling that Nigeria’s two main political parties — APC and PDP — were “terrorist organisations” because they allegedly use violence, coercion and subversion of democratic institutions in their bid to acquire political power.

Falana noted that the ruling carries far-reaching consequences beyond judicial recognition, stressing that under the Terrorism (Prevention and Prohibition) Act 2022 of Nigeria, terrorism includes the use of violence, intimidation, or coercive tactics with political or ideological motives — actions which he argued have become common features of elections in the country.

It is common knowledge that APC and PDP rig elections and announce fake results with the assistance of armed thugs, police and military personnel,” Falana said, adding that violence, killings and attacks on voters have repeatedly marred electoral processes without perpetrators being brought to justice.

The activist criticised both parties for their immediate reactions to the ruling — with the APC calling the judge “ignorant” and the PDP describing the decision as “mischievous” — saying these responses failed to address the substantive issues raised.

Instead of abusing the Canadian judge, the APC and PDP should urgently adopt legal measures to prove that they are not terrorist organisations,” he stated.

Falana further advised the Federal Government to urgently engage immigration lawyers to intervene in the matter, warning that the ruling could lead to widespread denial of visas or deportation of Nigerians abroad who are members of the APC and PDP.

If the ruling is registered in the United States, United Kingdom, France and elsewhere, members of the APC and PDP may have their visas revoked and may be deported,” he said.

He argued that the federal government’s protest to the Canadian authorities would not reverse the judgment and urged Nigerian security agencies and judges to compel political parties and their members to operate strictly within constitutional and legal boundaries, particularly during elections.

“The federal government should hire immigration lawyers to take urgent action to remove the stigma of infamy contained in the judgment. The collateral damage will certainly affect other citizens since the government of their homeland has been sponsored by two terrorist political parties,” Falana warned.

He called for stronger enforcement of the Electoral Act and the prosecution of election violators, stressing that Nigeria must restore confidence in its democratic processes both at home and abroad.

Politics‘i’m Fit As A Fiddle,’ Akpabio Debunks Rumours Of Ill Health by Ofunaofu(op): 11:06am On Aug 18, 2025
Senate President Godswill Akpabio has dismissed rumours about his health.

Akpabio arrived at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, around 4 a.m. on Monday from London, where he was received at the presidential wing by senators, aides, and supporters.

His return followed widespread social media speculation that he was critically ill and hospitalised in London.

Speaking with journalists at the airport, Akpabio described the reports as false and baseless.

“There’s nothing like such. I’m fit as a fiddle. I only stopped over in London for a short vacation,” he said.

Before his brief stay in the UK, Akpabio attended the sixth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament in Geneva, Switzerland, from July 29 to 31.

He noted that the Nigerian delegation played a significant role in pushing for stronger democratic governance and improved synergy between arms of government.

Looking ahead, the senate president promised Nigerians “robust legislative engagements” when the National Assembly reconvenes from recess.

When it is time to vote Igbo for President, Nigeria won't seek validation from Igbo before electing a pan Nigeria from Igbo extraction to lead Nigeria. Peter Obi doesn't represent that, he is rather a tribal and divisive politician with proven record of vindictive tendency and myopic outlook.

Nigeria can no longer afford to vote a former governor with no single reform and legacy project to his name when he was a governor.
When is that time?

Can’t that time be 2027? Umahi is a member of the APC and is currently the Minister of Works under the Tinubu administration. According to you, he is the best. You can tell Tinubu to be a statesman, not seek reelection, and throw his weight behind Dave Umahi.

WizardOfNG:
Lol. Bloviated nonsense. I am broadly an APC supporter because of PBAT.

Yet, due to the passport I have, I don't even need a visa for short term visits to Canada.

Similarly, many Nigerians who are even APC office holders are getting visas to Canada daily and as we speak. The Canadian Government is still happily and cordially trading with the APC-led Nigeria which is a nation that is her biggest trading partner in Africa.

In whose mind then, except desperados eager to use anything and everything to demarket APC and Tinubu, is the announcement of this judge meaningful or impactful?

The declaration of the judge does not affect the majority of Nigerians needing and gaining visas to Canada daily as their political affiliation does not need to be known let alone such becoming an issue.

Again, I repeat you are operating with petty villager mentality because you are only ungraciously and spitefully mocking an asylum seeker without the intellect to appreciate that this judgement you are making a mountain out of is a meaningless molehill 'victory' in your mind alone.

The judgement you and your co-travellers are celebrating is only relevant to Nigerians in the unfortunate postion of seeking asylum in Canada.
I initially thought your support for the APC was rooted in principles that predated Tinubu’s presidency. But if you're still backing him despite the well-documented allegations of drûg traffickiñg, certificáte fórgéry, and identity inconsistencies, then it's hard not to question the values behind that support. Leaders reflect the standards we accept, and standing by someone with such a tainted record raises serious concerns about judgment and integrity.
PoliticsRe: Labour Party Condemns Saturday’s By-Elections, Raises Concerns Over 2027 Polls by Ofunaofu(op): 8:23am On Aug 18, 2025
WizardOfNG:
Lol. The declaration of the Judge only relates to an application of one individual seeking asylum in Canada. How many Nigerians do you think need the asylum route to visit or live in Canada?

Are all APC Governors, Senators, HOR members, Commissioners, LG Chairmen etal , literally several thousands, being denied Visa to Canada?

In effect, you are only hating on Asylum seekers and you're not even smart enough to note that.

You people and your petty villager mentality. They have thrown you a very dry bone, like a Dog, you now cannot let go of.
This is the same tired propaganda you’ve been regurgitating all over Nairaland like a broken record. The fact remains and it’s not up for debate that APC is a terró.rist organization, and that’s not hyperbole; it’s a reality many Nigerians live with daily and you know it. But because you are paid to defend the APC, you choose to lie to yourself and pretend.

Listen, Yes, the judge’s declaration was in the context of an asylum case, but it wasn’t just about one person it was a legal acknowledgment of the violent and oppressive nature of the APC-led regime. That's a serious indictment. You can try to water it down, but the implication is clear: APC’s name is now stained on the global stage.

As for visas, stop gaslighting. Visa approvals or rejections are not the issue credibility is. The ruling speaks to the character of the party you blindly defend. It doesn’t matter how many governors or local chairmen you list corruption, human rights abuses, and state-sponsored violence, electoral violence of grab it, snatch it and run away with can’t be laundered with political titles.

Also, calling people “villagers” for exposing your beloved party’s rot is classic deflection. Insults don’t erase the truth. APC has failed, and no amount of barking online will clean the blood off its hands.

So chew on that bone you tried to throw,it’s laced with facts.

This sudden love for Soludo is just you being petty. You're not from Anambra State, nor are you a member of APGA. Tinubu and the APC didn’t win Anambra in 2023, and they won't win it in 2027 even if Obi is not on the ballot. APC is simply not a political force in the state. Obi and Soludo are not on the same level in national politics, not today and not anytime soon. Obi is currently the biggest political figure in Nigeria, and one local win by Soludo doesn’t change that. Soludo aligning with the center is about political survival let’s not confuse strategy with popularity.

PoliticsLabour Party Condemns Saturday’s By-Elections, Raises Concerns Over 2027 Polls by Ofunaofu(op): 8:13pm On Aug 17, 2025
The Labour Party (LP) has expressed deep concern over the conduct of Saturday’s by-elections held across 16 states, describing the exercise as a significant setback to Nigeria’s democratic journey.

In a statement issued by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Acting National Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, the party alleged irregularities including vote-buying, electoral violence, and lack of transparency in the process.

According to the LP, the by-elections — conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) — fell short of acceptable democratic standards.

“What transpired across Nigeria in the name of by-elections amounted to a mockery of democracy. From Kaduna to Anambra, Ogun to Oyo and Kano, reports indicated incidents of vote-buying, voter intimidation, and logistical lapses,” the statement read.

The party called for urgent reforms and improved oversight in the electoral process, warning that failure to act may impact the credibility of the 2027 general elections.

“If INEC cannot conduct limited off-season elections with transparency and credibility, it raises serious concerns about its ability to manage a nationwide general election in 2027,” the party stated.

The LP urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to take decisive steps to safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s democratic institutions and processes.

“The credibility of our electoral system is fundamental to the stability of our democracy. It is imperative that the government addresses growing public concern about electoral transparency and security,” the party concluded.

While INEC is yet to formally respond to the allegations, the commission had earlier described the by-elections as largely peaceful and successful, despite isolated incidents reported in some polling units.

PoliticsTinubu Stabilising His Mess – Aisha Yesufu Faults Okonjo-Iweala by Ofunaofu(op): 6:33pm On Aug 17, 2025
Activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised World Trade Organization Director-General, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, over her remarks commending President Bola Tinubu for stabilising Nigeria’s economy.

In a post on X on Sunday, Yesufu questioned why Nigerians should give Tinubu credit for stabilising what she described as an economy he had destabilised.

She argued that the economy has yet to return to the level it was before Tinubu assumed office, adding that the claim of stability would only make sense if the president had inherited a worse situation.

Yesufu said Nigerians were being asked to commend Tinubu for “stabilising his own mess,” insisting the country’s economic state remains far from recovery.

She said: “First of all, she started by telling Nigerians that they should give Mr. Tinubu credit for stabilising an economy he destabilised and has not even taken to the bad state it was in before he came in.

“Give credit to someone that threw the economy into an unprecedented bad state because he was now stabilising his mess? What is the stability being compared to?

“If Mr Tinubu had met the economy worse off and there was now stability, then her statement would make sense. The economy is still not back to where it was when he snatched power from Buhari. Is it? So what credit are Nigerians supposed to give?”

The African Democratic Congress has claimed it won two out of three seats in the state and National Assembly bye-elections in Kaduna State.

The ADC Coalition mobilisation wing, known as ‘ADC Vanguard,’ disclosed this in a terse statement on its X account Saturday.

DAILY POST reports that Kaduna State conducted elections in the Chikun/Kajuru Federal Constituency, the Zaria Kewaye State Constituency, and the Basawa State Constituency.

Reacting to the polls in a statement, ADC Vanguard said on X, “ADC Coalition Dominates Kaduna State, Securing 2 out of 3 constituencies insStunning victory.”

However, official results from the state electoral commission are yet to be released.

Earlier, All Progressives Congress chieftain, Ayekooto Akindele took a swipe at the former Governor Nasir El-Rufai, saying emerging results showed Kaduna people spoke loudly against him.
