Higher interest rate should mean higher TB rates, are we heading for 23 or 24% for 364?

Business / Re: CBN Raises Benchmark MPR By 200 Basis Points To 24.75% by ogawisdom(m): 7:54pm On Mar 26
Freethinker87:

Mr Economist.

While I understand the steps taken by the CBN to control inflation, I respectfully disagree with your perspective.

Increasing MPR to 25% means that banks will offer loans at over 32%. This new interest regime will be detrimental to businesses that rely heavily on loans for their operations.

With such high-interest rate, the cost of borrowing will go up, significantly reducing the overall liquidity available to businesses.

This will certainly lead to a slow-down in business operations, entrepreneurship, and consequently the economy like Chief Tinubu promised during the campaign. Nigeria does not have an excess liquidity problem, we're suffering from a FX scarcity.

It is highly unlikely that any legitimate business can survive, let alone thrive, under this condition. FGS businesses are struggling currently, with many multinationals shutting down operations in Nigeria. How much more SMEs?

Instead of mopping up money from the system, providing financial support and grants to businesses and entrepreneurs can stimulate the economy and eventually strengthen the Naira, but No! let's use our scarce FX to sponsor Hajj tourism to Mecca and import foreign SUVs for legislators while the illegitimate President and his wayward son travel in a 70-vehicle convoy.

PPL are borrowing naira to buy USD , this policy will affect those speculators & appreciate the naira.

Curbs inflation, attract foreign investors through goverment securities which helps naira in process.

If you still own a dollar, pls sell.

I dey mad

Bought at 1575 and sold at 1750 since

I think they are aware that PPL borrow naira to buy USD & with high interest rate it has been stopped.

The Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) held their second meeting of the year where they voted to:

- Raise monetary policy rate (MPR) by 200bps to 24.75%.
- Adjust the Asymmetric corridor around the MPR from +100/-700bps to +100/-300bps.
- Maintain the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) of Commercial banks at 45.00%.
- Adjust the Cash Reserve Ratio (CRR) of Merchant banks from 10.00% to 14.00%.
- Maintain the Liquidity Ratio at 30.00%.

What is the implications of all these

You must not have all the money to start but this is too small make it 3 or 4 rooms . Put in 1.5m yearly and you can complete in 3 to 5 yrs

It all depends on finishing, if you want a basic house it will cost way less without all those modern facilities in houses (No pop, tiles only in sitting room, normal wooden doors, normal ceiling, you can cut out alot when on tight budget).

exactly. Turned down anything 17.%. Let's see how next week will look like. I Just hope the law of diminishing returns won't take place as time goes on. It's 18% and above or primary market

It's even unwise to lock down fund in an unstable economy like Nigeria for anything less than 20% for a year.

Liquidity is king in investing, opportunities can always come but only those with liquid investment can take them, this is the secret of the rich.

Ability to buy undervalued assets in the market anytime they come.

They have managed to keep USD below 1600 for over 2 weeks now otherwise USD speculation can deliver 20% in less than 2 months before now.

Let's wait for next auction

It's better to keep fund at 12% that you can withdraw anytime to take advantage of opportunities than lock them at 18% that limits you. It's called liquidity

MMF investors has liquidity but they may not understand.

Secondary market will give you 23.5 fr 257 days as at today's rate.

How my brother my bid even failed as I insisted on 21% at first bank last primary market. Yesterday I tried secondary market at first bank and they are saying 18%

Exactly 💯 I am diverting my money meant for USD speculation already to TB but won't accept anything less than 21%

The way I would compound it is by doing three consecutive Treasury bills, which would take a month plus.

For the first T-bills, I would put the #10 million at 21% (assuming this is the rate) and get #2.1 million upfront.

For the next auction, I would put the #2.1 million at 21% (again assuming a constant rate) and get #441 thousand upfront.

For the next auction, I would put the #441 thousand at 21% (again assuming a constant rate) and get #92.6 thousand upfront. At this point, I would stop and keep the #92.6 thousand.

At the end of the tenures, one year and a few weeks from now, they will start crediting one after the other: #10 million, then #2.1 million, and lastly #441 thousand plus the #92.6 thousand, which sums up to #12.633 million (profit of 2.63 million) . So, by compounding this way, you would make an extra #533 thousand. grin cheesy

Thought about it that way too, nice one

Seems you opted for upfront interest payment. Backend is higher.

How does back end interest work?

Does it compound the interest?

Give example please

Someone help out with this please

If I put 10m in TB @ 22% for 364days

I eat chicken, turkey, and goat meat more, but yesterday I decided to change my regular taste and went to the market to buy this Titus fish. If I can remember vividly, it wasn't sold for more than #400 the last time I ate it, but guess the price is now. It was so sweet, though, and I am not sure if this lady scammed me or sold cheap.

Please drop the current price.

Update... This Fish was sold to me for 5k and the lady was doing like she did me a favour. cry cry
