What is your target capital base and how long are you giving yourself to hit it.
Whatever it is it should still grow by at least 20% yearly and never static due to inflation and devaluation.

jonnysessy: Yes o. You are very correct. It doesn't make any sense in buying all stocks. There are about 155 stocks on NGX today. I presently own about 30 companies. This really doesn't make sense. I have planning to trim it down to 10 stocks which have rewarded me in dividends and capital appreciation. I am really working on it. If one is heavily loaded in a stock, once they pay dividend you are very happy. Hence, i am concentrating my energy to massively invest in just 10 stocks. My oga Buffett said that over diversification is protection against ignorance. For me no one needs more than 5 solid quality growth stocks especially when your capital is below 100m |
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by ogawisdom(m): 8:08am On Mar 02 |
This is what is called dividend, you will only get reasonable dividend when you concentrate in the right stocks esp with good capital. Quality growth stocks

unite4real: The dividend is not economically free money. It is value neutral. It is a transfer of value from the company's balance sheet to shareholders. After the marked down, investors net position stays the same. Infact with the 10% withholding from the dividend, investors are worse off unless the share price rebounds quickly from the marked down price. Little wonder why even when the dividend looks high, investors still offload their holdings on qualification date.
Nestle did not declare dividend, yet share price did not enter full offer. Bids were still growing after that. If MTN and WAPCO shareholders decides to transfer wealth due to low dividend, it's on them.
For me, any company that declares a very high dividend, I will wait for the divided hunters to drive the price sharply then I exit before qualification. Wait for ellers to push it back,.then re-enter with same fund to increase my holdings.
It is not everyone that is trapped in this dividend love party.
I am waiting for the angry ones to bring Wapco and MTN to my buy zone. The strategy for becoming wealthy (capital growth) is different from the strategy for remaining wealthy (capital preservation). For someone trying to become wealthy capital growth is more important than dividends though one can still get both in some high quality growth stocks. |

Mrexcell: Everybody can't just be mad at the same time there won't be nothing left of nigeria if that happens. To collect your thing from a mad man you must act mad or even more mad, it's that simple. Everyone should not act mad in Nigeria but any one that wants to take power from APC should be more deadly than them otherwise the person should stop wasting time. |
Politics › Re: Hoodlums Attack ADC Office And Peter Obi In Edo State. by ogawisdom(m): 5:00pm On Feb 24 |
Peter obi should quit politics in Nigeria if he cant play it like his opponents in APC. Politics in Nigeria is not for gentle men, its for men willing to take power at all costs like Wike and Tinubu. This is why Tinubu can never fire his most important brutal asset Wike ahead of 2027 no matter what he does.
Obi will never become President acting gentle, even if he wins they will rig him out. |
Family › Re: 50 Years Without An Asset? What Is Your Advice? by ogawisdom(m): 1:41pm On Feb 23 |
Sirchiboy: 50 years without an asset? What is your advice? At 50 you still don't know the meaning of asset. You mean you don't have 1. Good health and sound mind 2. No functional knowledge 3. No marketable skills or services 4. No strategic relationships (family, friends, associates, marriage, children, in laws) 5. Zero networth like no financial capital 6. No income producing asset - stock, land, house, business, investment Do you mean you will score zero over six here. Anyway 50 is not too late so you don't say the same at 60, 65 or 70. Once you are 70 it's over you will become senior citizen. You have 20 solid years to turn things around before you enter retirement. |
