As someone who was born and raised abroad. My feeling is that it's largely due to the exchange rate. Like many I have family who would be considered either on the richer or poorer ends of the spectrum. The richer one's have no interest in living abroad whatsoever rather they see it as just a place for holiday etc. I would at least 80% of the Nigerian-born immigrants based in the UK I encounter would prefer to live in Nigeria rather than the UK if they could make the "right kind" of money.

Now onto the actual question. It's simple, there is a believe that the system abroad rewards hard work/determination which indeed is most true in comparison to Nigeria. The only thing I would say is there does seem to be a naivety that "abroad=better life". A lot forget there are so many that end up living a worse life than they did in Nigeria, so it's something that needs to be weighed up carefully.

I understand with regards to diversity of nationalities, Nigeria is quite a homogeneous society compared to other countries but I don't think it's that hard to believe that someone who is born and raised in Nigeria to a naturalized Nigerian citizen could be described as a Nigerian, no?

There is issue on that route regarding aircraft availability I believe. During NYSC, not once when I flew from Lagos to Asaba was there not a delay. It's not a very popular route, a good proportion of users are either foreigners, muscians (Dammy Krane & Wande Coal were on one of my flights). These type of journeys are once every 1 or 2 months there it's not as prioritized as other routes I think.

Shocking that they hadn't sorted this issue out months ago. They could have at least had a contingency plan where flights to Benin where considered with coaches completing the last miles of the journey from Benin to Asaba.

4 years ago, whilst serving in Asaba this was a major problem. Government just don't care, weirdly this happens occurs along one of major roads (Okpanam Road, where the secretariat and house of assembly lies). I can imagine this affecting several civil servants that live towards the Okpanam area.

I'm a bit puzzled by some of the responses on this thread. Isn't this a case where two people may not be compatible. Why should she change herself? In fact how can one enter a union where you don't feel comfortable in your skin when with your other half.

This is not new to Nigeria. A similar situation happened to my grandfather in the 1940's! It's the advent of technology and social media that has allowed such stories to reach nationally, making it difficult to know if these things are on the increase. Regardless it's draining to read such callous behavior.

Some of the responses on this thread made me chuckle. Majority of you will bribe, cheat and steal etc as well if opportunity presented itself where you would be in a influential position. Weren't some of these "Rich" folk young like you at some point? Didn't some of them come from poor backgrounds initially, did their humble beginnings stop them?

My biggest issue with Nigeria was the mentality. it's a dog eats dog world. Too much envy and desperation. However there are some fantastic, lovely and God-fearing people in that country and as long as such people exist...Nigeria is worth it. This coming from someone who was born and bred abroad. Having lived in Nigeria for just over a year I sympathize with her frustrations. She was probably just having a bad day when she made that post.

So I've been in Lagos for six months, trying to make ends meet, I got a sales girl job twice and lost them all because I didn't sleep with my boss, sounds funny right? All of a sudden, my cousin and her husband started acting funny towards me, if I cook, they'll say it's tasteless, I fetch water, they said I contaminated it, it now dawned to me that they want me to leave, I called that uncle again, he shouted at me and said that am no longer a kid that I should go sort myself out, that I can even go into prostitution that he doesn't care..
Its like the world is against me

Just wondering but I'm travelling to Nigeria in about a month and would like to access WiFi ideally. Has anyone tried "Red Cheetah"? Does it work relatively well?

The problem is there isn't a large enough retail demand to bring in some of these games unfortunately in Nigeria. Imagine yourself as a video game retailer, in order to get discounts you buy in bulk hence probably 50+ copies for one game potentially. This is difficult amount of games to sell due to the logistics situation in the country (you would probably be limited to intra-state sales) and economy (video games are seen as a luxury good). Only very popular games such as FIFA worth having in bulk to sell. Other's are not financially beneficial to the seller.

I'm currently not gaming much but my first "personal" gaming experience was with the PS1 (my first console). It came with 4 games, Tomb Raider III, Rayman, MediEvil 2 and Army Men: Sarge's Heroes. I quite enjoyed Rayman and Army Men. I had some other gaming memories with friends prior to this as well.

Well yeah! The investors in the business expected it to be like Zynga or Woonga for Nigeria or even Africa but the market didn't turn out the way they expected. I also think they weren't interested in pivoting and just decided to cut short their losses.

2017 Review
Maliyo had a solid year in 2017 with launch of MonaPay and the Maliyo Marketplace. After their comeback in 2016, and my numerous chats with Hugo Obi (Manager/CEO), they seem to look like they've shifted from their previous endevours; making locally relatable mobile games. Hugo has always talked about two major challenges facing the local industry; Discoverability and Monetization, and last year looked like the right time for Maliyo to solve those problems. With the Maliyo Marketplace, Nigerians can now find the hottest mobile games and apps as well as locally relevant content (MadeInNaija category/section). With MonaPay, digital content providers can now accept payment from customers through their mobile airtime. With these two services, Maliyo looks to begin the year with bang.

Sorry Mr ‘quintessential gamer’ but as a NIGERIAN female gamer I can literally prove you wrong to EVEYTHING you have said.

First of all I play minecraft - a lot! Easily one of my favorite pc games. Secondly I’ve played the game cuphead, as well as Journey AND finished it at 100% completion. Thirdly, I use steam often, the last game I played on it was ‘Kindergarten’ and I’ve played various ‘indie games’ on steam.
As for MMORPG I’m a big fan of Neverwinter, World Of Warcraft and Star Trek Online. In regards to COD and Uncharted sometimes I play on the hardest, sometimes I don’t - not everyday stress, sometimes take it easy.

Anyway, I wrote allll that to ask how low your IQ must be to make such a generalising statement?

I think the initial comment was typed in that way, in order to purposely seek a reaction from others!

Anyway it is great to know you've (and a few others) have played various of indie games (*thumbs up*). It's an underrated market in my opinion.
