tobaseye: Thumbs up. Pastors and self acclaimed men of God will always talk of Malachi 3:6-10 when issue of tithe arise. Why don't they refer to New Testament? Is it only Malachi that spoke about tithe? No. People should stop thinking that it is because they pay tithe that is why God is blessing them. Tithe is for Israel and his discendants as commanded by God in the days of old. |

You and I don't know who will make heaven or hell. That is left for God to judge. Even your pastors, bishop, pope and priest Don't know who will make heaven or hell. |

SnowJay92: Yes. The Levites were the tribe of isreal the priesthood falls on. They had no landed inheritance. All of them cannot be Priest at once, hence the issue of refering them to be poor. The tithe is to be given to them to be presented to God in the temple for him(God) to bless the people that presented them. God also commanded the Levites to pay tithe and their tithe is different from other tribes of isreal. The Malachi 3:6-10 that talked of robbing God in tithe was refering to the priests not sharing the tithes accordingly and keeping some of the spoils for themselves and also not giving their tithe according to how God commanded. Tithe is for the tribes of isreal. You and I are not Israelites or their discendants. Cheers. |

Pidgin2: If you have read my other posts you will see that I am not against paying of tithe, giving offering, donations etc because they are used to run the activities of the temple of God which is the church in New Testament. Talking about if Abraham paid tithe. If you read that Genesis 14 :18-20 of kjv 18. And Melchizedek king of Salem brought forth bread and wine: and he was the priest of the most high God. 19. And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of heaven and earth: 20. And blessed be the most high God, which hath delivered thine enemies into thy hand. And he gave him tithes of all. It meant that Abraham received tithe from mechizedek King of Salem ( Jerusalem). Other editions of bible referred to "he gave him tithes of all" to Abraham giving tithe to merchizedek. The issue I have is that our pastors are not doing according to what God commanded concerning tithing this days. They are after forcing and cajoling you to drop money. Tithe is not limited to money. Tithing is an Old Testament practice just like in aspect of offering. In levictcus, God commanded the priest on how to offer oblation to him. He instructed that the priest should wring the neck of the pigeons and sprinkle the blood round the alter and offer the burnt offering whole to him. That is the same thing our traditionalist I.e native doctors practice. In fact, the bottom line is give in truth, good mind and freely whether offering, tithe, donation without being cajoled. God loves a cheerful giver as the son of God has told us. |

Pidgin2: In the Law, which God gave to Moses, certain statutes required a tithe from every person that belonged to the tribes of Israel (Jacob). They were to set aside a tenth of their crops, herds, and fruit, and then bring their tithe to the Levites; this is how God made provision for the Levites, the lone tribe that comprised the priesthood. The reason God made provision for the Levites is that they were not allotted a land inheritance as their counterpart Israelite brethren were given. So to compensate them (the Levites) for fulfilling their priestly duty, God made provision in the Law in this manner. However, you MUST understand and factor into your consideration is that the Levites, who were the priests, were also commanded by God (in the Law) to pay their own 10% as a tithe. There was also measurable difference between the quality of the tithe that God required the Levites to give versus the quality of the tithe that God required the average Israelite to pay. The average Israelite was allowed by God in the statutes of the Law, to give any one of ten apples harvested, or any one of ten bushels of wheat, or any one of ten cattle, sheep, or goats raised, etc. The tithe required of the Levites by God in the statutes of the law required a much better quality 10%. In fact, the tithe required of the Levites judged according to the top 10%. This meant Levites had to tithe the very best of the best 10% of whatever they had received from the people of Israel. If you read Hebrews 7:4, you’ll find Abraham gave Melchizedek the “choicest goods” as tithe. Talking of tithe. Are you a discendant of the tribes of Israel? You are a Nigerian. |

Pidgin2: Genesis 14:18-20 After his return from the defeat of Chedorlaomer, Abram was met by Melchizedek king of Salem and a Canaanite priest of God Most High, refreshing them with bread and wine and he blessed Abram. The blessing was given to Abram, a very important fact to remember. In response, Abram gave ONE-TENTH (10%) of all the goods of Sodom that were stolen by Chedorlaomer to Melchizedek. Abram did NOT tithe from his own possessions, an essential fact to refute tithing practices in the new covenant. Genesis 14:21-24 The king of Sodom offered to give Abram all the goods of Sodom that were recovered for himself, but Abram refused, taking not one single item, to give honor to Yahweh, lest people say this pagan king of Sodom made him rich. This is a very important point, because Abram took NO INCOME and the tithe he gave to Melchizedek did not come from his goods, but those of the Sodomites and 1/10 of Lot’s recovered goods. |

ndubueze92: Malachi chapter 3 verse 6 downwards is refering to the children of the tribes of Israel and not you and I. Read the chapter very well. Pastors always refer to this chapter especially verse 8 & 9. It is not only Malachi that talks shout tithe. Check levictcus, that is where offering, tithe, donations etc was talked about very well. 1 Like |

Logosclose: Offerings and tithes are supposed to be given to the temple of God. The priest will present the offerings and tithes to God to bless the handwork of the offerer and thither. The offerings are for the priest, his family and temple while the tithe are to be shared among the discendants of Levi. Relating it to our generation, the offering is for the church, priest and his household while te tithes are to be used for the poor and less privilege among the worshippers and in the society. Tithing is an Old Testament practice and is not limited to money. It is the one tenth of your proceeds and it is supposed to be given with a good heart and not because you are expecting a miracle or something in return from God. God blesses a cheerful giver. You are not meant to be forced or cajoled to give. If we Christians follow the path of Christ and commandments of God, our world will be a good place to live. |

Nnamdiojukwu: In the bible Abraham, Isaac, Adam, etc did not pay tithe, they only give offering. Tithe was a command God gave to the other tribes of Israel to support the children of Levi. The discendants of Levi were poor, God instructed other tribes of Israel to bring one tenth of their proceeds to the temple to be used for the feeding of the Levites. The issue of the verse in Malachi talking of robbing God in tithe, was the priest of the temples not giving the children of Levi the complete proceeds of tithe. Offering is what is important to God. Give your offering to him in good heart and he will bless you. You can give your tithe to the poor and less privilege because they are the Levites among us. Cheers. 3 Likes 1 Share |

Princewell2012: Videoing her collecting the money can not be enough evidence to show she collected rent from you. She can claim the money people saw in the video is money you owe her for another thing. The best evidence is she writing a receipt or acknowledgment stating the purpose of the money, amount collected, tenancy period, property address and appending her signature. That is what is obtainable in landlord and tenant law. |

F fashrola: On issue of agreement. Lagos state tenancy law 2011 section 3(a),(b),(c) states that agreement can be express or implied, oral, written, partly oral or partly written, for fixed term. Section 5(1) states that any landlord or agent acting on his/her behalf shall issue a receipt upon receipt of rent. Section 5(3) says the defaulter is liable to fine of #100,000. I know our legal system is poor but I pray OP resolves his matter amicably. |

When ever you are going into any contractual agreement with a person, make sure you receive a receipt or acknowledgment in respect to the transaction. When next you are paying her, ask her for receipt or written acknowledgement evidencing receipt of the rent duelly signed by her. Continue to live in the house if you are comfortable living there, but don't forget to collect receipt next time. Thanks Princewell2012: |

My say on this. First, you made a mistake by not signing a tenancy agreement with the landlady. That is aside for now. Secondly, if the receipt given to you has a fixed tenancy period stated on it, you are are covered because agreement can also be oral (parol). If you paid for a full year, you are a yearly tenant and should be given 7days of owners intention to recover possession. Mind you, you are not entitled to 6months notice because your tenancy should be tenancy for a fixed term according to Lagos state tenancy law 2011. In view of the above, your landlady has no other option than to wait for your tenancy to elapse before quitting you unless she wants to use force which is against the law if you know your rights. If she wants to sell her property to another person, she can do so while you are in occupation and you become the new owners burden. To cut the whole thing short, contact a lawyer to write to her on your behalf. She should settle her issue with her estate agent. Thank you 1 Like |

There is no way notice to quit can start to count at the expiration of his payment. Notice to quit either ends at the expiration of the tenancy or extends after the expiration of the tenancy depending on when it is served. If your tenancy ends in December, notice to quit should be served on the first of July. In some cases of a year certain tenancy in accordance to Lagos state tenancy law, you can serve 7days notice to quit instead of 6months notice. They should just beg for time. Some landlords don't go court self. They will just arrange boys or bribe their way, get judgment and throw them out. When they will be thrown out, you people wit be there to save them. trulife: |

Once the caretaker has a proof of service of The notice served on them, it is Valid. He can paste it on their door and snap it. That already is proof of service. They just have to plead for more time to vacate. Eluwilussit: |

You people are illegal tenants already. First whose name is on the notice to quit? If it is the former legal tenant, just know that it will be easy to get judgment against you people. I it is your name, get a lawyer who can help you out. When they start to drag proof of service, tenancy agreement and some other things, the matter will prolong due to several adjournments, by that time you will have ample time to vacate. From the look of things, I think the matter has been going on in court without you knowing. Before you know it, they will get judgment and get execution of judgment and your properties will be thrown out by the bailiffs. You people have two options, get a lawyer to drag the matter a little or vacate. You can't win landlord on his property, even if judgment is in your Favour as tenant, you can never be at rest in the property. |
