Politics / Yoruba Muslims Blame Goodluck Jonathan For Insecurities In The North by oilPUSSY(f): 10:02am On Dec 18, 2021
Islamic human rights organisation, Muslim Rights Concern, MURIC, has returned the blames of the current killings, kidnapping and destruction going on in the Northern part of Nigeria to former President, Goodluck Jonathan.

The North is boiling with anger over insecurity, with some groups already starting to protest, while the average citizen up north is fuming with rage.

MURIC identified Jonathan’s administration as the real culprits of insecurity in the North and berated politicians who stole money meant for the purchase of arms for the armed forces.

The group warned the North against misplacement of their anger, pointing out that the bastardisation of the almajiri system had not helped.

The group, in a statement distributed to the media on Saturday, signed by its director, Professor Ishaq Akintola, insisted that the current security situation is not the fault of the current administration but that of past leaders.

“Today was born from the wombs of yesterday,” the statement began.

“Little or no effort was made to nip the problem in the bud. The remote causes are the bastardisation of the almajiri system and the proliferation of drug addiction.

“In particular, ex-President Goodluck Jonathan displayed high level aparthy to the problem of Boko Haram insurgency. A glaring example was his self-imposed state of stupor in the first three weeks after the Chibok girls were abducted.

“Jonathan was in power at that time but his attitude to the Boko Haram insurgency was lukewarm.

“Things were so bad that Nigerian soldiers used to turn their heels at the approach of the insurgents.

“Had he acted swiftly, the insurgents would have been apprehended but he dilly-dallied and refused to give the order to pursue the abductors until it was too late.

“The way and manner the $2.1 billion arms money was shared among party loyalists under the watch of the former president left much to be desired. Had that money been utilized for what it was intended, insecurity in the North would have been brought under control at an early stage,” it said.

MURIC also blamed the Bukola Saraki-led 8th National Assembly for virtually holding the hands of President Muhammadu Buhari and ensuring that there was motion without movement in the term of his government.

According to MURIC, the Saraki-led assembly had one aim which was only to frustrate the Buhari administration and ensure that it failed in all its efforts.

The Islamic rights group said the region must know who is responsible for the current insecurity so they can apportion their blames appropriately, pointing to those, according to it, who failed to take prompt action in the heydays of Boko Haram.

MURIC warned the North against blaming Buhari by protesting, adding that the region could destroy itself

Residents of Ayete and Tapa communities in the Ibarapa North local government area of Oyo State have raised the alarm over a looming attack by Fulani herdsmen.
A Save Our Soul (SOS) letter addressed to the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State, Ngozi Onadeko, which was signed by one Adeagbo Taiwo, is titled “lnevitable Attack ls Looming".

According to the letter, herders threatened to attack the communities within seven days, counting from Saturday, October 30, 2021, Street Journal reports.

Taiwo in the letter alleged that 70 Fulani herdsmen, each with an AK-47 rifle on Friday, October 29 came from Ogun State and settled in the Konko community following an attack on a Fulani by one Lukumon Kongo at the Konko area the day before.

"These Fulanis in question promised the people that they are coming to attack Ayete and Tapa within seven (7) days, as from yesterday,” the letter stated.

The letter also recalled an earlier voice note sent to the police commissioner, Oyo State government, Divisional Police Officers of Ayete and lgangan, Department of State Services (DSS), lbarapa North Local Government, the local government chairman and his deputy.

In the voice note, a Fulani man being interrogated warned the people of Ibarapa North local government area to leave the area before the dry season, which starts from October.

Taiwo begged security and government authorities to take the matter seriously and protect lives and property in the communities.

He said “Please sir, don’t handle this report with left hands. Kindly safe life and property.”

Politics / Biafra.See The List Of Of U.N Demands In Queries To Nigeria Over Kanu's Extradit by oilPUSSY(f): 4:32pm On Oct 26, 2021
The United Nations Working Group has asked Nigerian and Kenyan governments to explain how the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu was arrested and subsequently extradited.

The Nigerian government had in June announced Kanu’s arrest and ‘extradition’ from Kenya to continue to face trial in Nigeria.

He is facing charges bordering on treasonable felony instituted against him at the court in response to years of the campaign for the Independent Republic of Biafra through IPOB.

The IPOB leader was granted bail in April 2017 for health reasons but he fled Nigeria following an invasion of his home in Abia State by the military.

However, the United Nations Working Group on arbitrary detention, under the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR), demanded explanations regarding Kanu’s illegal arrest and abduction in separate letters to the Nigerian and Kenyan governments on August 26, 2021.

The UN group noted in both letters that it also sent the British government, and the Nigerian or Kenyan government as the case may be.

The group comprises scholars and experts who specialise in human rights issues and related laws.

It noted in both letters that it received information “concerning allegations of enforced disappearance, arbitrary detention, torture and ill-treatment of Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, by Kenyan security officials, as well as his illegal rendition to Nigeria, to face trial for terrorism related charges, which are believed to be linked to his leadership of the ‘Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)’ group. It asked the government to respond to the allegations of Kanu’s illegal abduction, ill treatment and others”.

It noted that as part of the allegations, “In May 2021, Mr. Kanu travelled to Nairobi, Kenya. On 19 June 2021, he went to pick up a friend from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport and was allegedly abducted. For the next ten days, Mr. Kanu’s fate and whereabouts were unknown.

“It was later reported that during his enforced disappearance, Mr. Kanu had been arrested at the airport’s parking lot, by a group of armed men in uniform believed to be Kenyan officials, without warrant or judicial order, who handcuffed and blindfolded him and pushed him into a vehicle. He was then taken to a private house, where he was detained for 8 days and allegedly subjected to torture and ill-treatment. During this period, Mr. Kanu was chained to the floor at all times, regularly beaten with a cloth over his mouth to prevent him from screaming, taunted and called a ‘terrorist Jew Biafran’, denied access to bath and toilet facilities, requiring him to urinate and defecate where he was chained, and was fed bread and water once a day.

“After 8 days of arbitrary detention in Kenya, Mr. Kanu was driven to the tarmac of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, handed over to Nigerian security officials, without any form of extradition or judicial process, and taken aboard a private jet to Abuja, Nigeria. On 29 June 2021, Mr. Kanu appeared before the Nigerian Federal High Court, in Abuja, in handcuffs and leg restraints, and was arraigned, without access to legal representation, based on previous charges brought against him in 2015.”

The UN group, therefore, stated that: “In view of the urgency of the matter, we would appreciate a response on the initial steps taken by your Excellency’s Government to safeguard the rights of the above-mentioned person in compliance with international instruments.”

From the Nigerian Government led by Muhammadu Buhari, it requested that it should “Please provide any additional information and any comment you may have on the above-mentioned allegations.

“Please provide detailed information on the current state of health of Mr. Kanu and the measures undertaken, or forseen, to prevent any irreparable damage to his life and personal integrity and to ensure that he has access to the medications and medical treatment required by his health conditions.

“Please provide detailed information on the circumstances under which Mr. Kanu was arrested, forcibly disappeared before being handed over to Nigerian authorities and transferred from Nairobi to Abuja. Please also clarify any international cooperation measures that may have taken place to arrest and transfer Mr. Kanu and provide any international arrest warrant that may have been issued against him, prior to his arrest.

“Please provide detailed information on the factual and legal grounds of the arrest and detention of Mr. Kanu, as well as formal charges against him, and the legal provisions used to charge him.

“Please provide full information on the period between 19 - 29 June 2021, during which Mr. Kanu was subjected to enforced disappearance, including his whereabouts and the conditions in which he was held, on the informal detention facilities during this period and explain how this is compatible with the international human rights obligations of Nigeria. Please provide information on whether an investigation was carried out into the alleged enforced disappearance of Mr. Kanu during this period of time, and whether those responsible have been held accountable.

“Please provide information on the measures taken to investigate the above-mentioned allegations of torture and ill-treatment perpetrated against Mr. Kanu during his detention in Nigeria and to hold those responsible accountable.

“Please provide full information on measures which have been taken, or which are foreseen, to guarantee the conduct of criminal proceedings by independent and impartial judicial authorities, in full compliance with the norms of due process recognised by international law, and the observance of fundamental safeguards, including unrestrained and confidential access a lawyer, to consular assistance, and to an independent medical doctor, as well as regular contact with his family.

“Please provide information in details of how your Excellency’s Government’s counter-terrorism efforts comply with the United Nations Security Council resolutions 1373 (2001), 1456(2003), 1566 (2004), 1624 (2005), 2178 (2014), 2341 (2017), 2354 (2017), 2368 (2017), 2370 (2017), 2395 (2017) and 2396 (2017); as well as Human Rights Council resolution 35/34 and General Assembly resolutions 49/60, 51/210, 72/123, 72/180 and 73/174 in particular with international human rights law, refugee law, and humanitarian law contained therein.”

Meanwhile, in its letter to the Kenyan government led by President Uhuru Kenyatta, it requested: “Please provide any additional information and any comment you may have on the above-mentioned allegations.

Kanu, and provide any international arrest warrant that may have been issued against him, prior to his arrest, and the authorities who arrested and detained him in Kenya.

“Please provide detailed information on the factual and legal grounds of the arrest and detention of Mr. Kanu, as well as formal charges against him, and the legal provisions used to charge him.

“Please provide full information on the period between 19 - 29 June 2021, during which Mr. Kanu was subjected to enforced disappearance, including his whereabouts and the conditions in which he was held, on the informal detention facilities during this period and explain how this is compatible with the international human rights obligations of Kenya. Please provide information on whether an investigation was carried out into the alleged enforced disappearance of Mr. Kanu during this period of time, and whether those responsible have been held accountable.

“Please provide detailed information, where available, on risk assessment carried out by the Kenyan authorities to ascertain the risk Mr. Kanu may incur, including being subjected to torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment as well as arbitrary detention upon his extradition to Nigeria, and how this assessment is compatible with the international standards.

“Please provide information on the measures taken to investigate the above-mentioned allegations of torture and ill-treatment perpetrated against Mr. Kanu during his detention in Kenya and to hold those responsible accountable.”

“This communication and any response received from your Excellency’s Government will be made public via the communications reporting website within 60 days. They will also subsequently be made available in the usual report to be presented to the Human Rights Council,” the UN group added in both letters

Politics / IPOB..United Nations Seeks Explanation About Nnamdi Kanu's Illegal Abduction by oilPUSSY(f): 11:11am On Oct 26, 2021
Any public expression of concern in this regard, will indicate that we have been in contact with your Excellency’s Government to clarify the issue/s in question'.

BY SAHARAREPORTERS, NEW YORKOCT 26, 2021

The United Nations has made “urgent appeals” to the Nigerian and Kenya governments to explain the “illegal arrest and extradition” of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

In the UN document, dated, August 26, obtained by SaharaReporters, the UN said the Nigerian and Kenyan governments should furnish it with details of how Kanu was arrested and illegally brought to Nigeria.

Nnamdi Kanu
In a release sent to SaharaReporters, Nnamdi Kanu’s brother, Kingsley Kanu, said he, working with the lawyers, undertook the interventions to the United Nations, which required the details to be kept confidential for 60 days.

The release is titled, “‘Urgent Appeals’ in the case of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu against Nigeria and Kenya.”

Kingsley said, “Following the extraordinary rendition of my older brother, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, I undertook a number of urgent steps within the realm of the international community, particularly in Britain and the United Nations. I worked quietly with my brother’s Special Counsel, Aloy Ejimakor and the Bindmans (my brother’s lawyers in Britain) on a host of muscular interventions aimed at presenting my brother’s case to the international community and facilitating his unconditional release and bringing the culprits of his illegal rendition to account.

“These interventions were not made known to the general public because the applicable rules, especially that of the United Nations, required them to be kept confidential for sixty days.

“Those 60 days just expired and the United Nations has therefore made public the details of its ‘Urgent Appeals’ to the Nigerian and Kenyan Governments, which were transmitted since 26th August, 2021. It also has made public an acknowledgment it received on 17th September, 2021 from the ‘Permanent Mission of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the United Nations’.

“Both documents are attached to this Press Release. In particular, the said Urgent Appeals states in part that the United Nations is 'alarmed by the alleged torture and ill-treatment Mr. Kanu has been subjected to during his illegal custody in Kenya. If confirmed, these allegations would constitute prima facie violations of fundamental human rights, including the right not to be arbitrarily deprived of liberty, and the absolute and non-derogable prohibition of torture and other ill-treatment under the International Covenant on Political and Civil Rights (ICCPR)”.

UN Issues ‘Urgent Appeals’ to Nigeria, Kenya, Seeking Explanation For Nnamdi Kanu’s Illegal Abduction, Dete... by Sahara Reporters on Scribd

“Further, the Urgent Appeals states that 'The allegations in the case of Mr. Kanu raise serious violations of international human rights law and may cause irreparable damage to his life or personal integrity, which we believe warrants prompt attention. In this regard, we are considering to publicly express our concerns in this case in the near future, believing that the wider public should be informed about the implications of these allegations for the enjoyment and exercise of human rights in Kenya and Nigeria. Any public expression of concern in this regard, will indicate that we have been in contact with your Excellency’s Government to clarify the issue/s in question'.

"Continuing, the United Nations stated that 'While awaiting a reply, we urge that all necessary interim measures be taken to prevent any irreparable damage to the life or personal integrity of Mr. Kanu, halt the alleged violations and prevent their re-occurrence and in the event that the investigations support or suggest the allegations to be correct, to ensure the accountability of any person responsible of the alleged violations'.

“It is important to emphasize that this is just the beginning of more United Nations and other global strong actions that would be seen in the coming weeks. While we await for such actions to unfold, we wish to inform the public that we will remain resolute and relentless in bringing the full weight of the international community to bear on the unconditional release of me brother and leader without further delay.”
