PoliticsNigeria: Land Of Hope And Despair By Butch Hannan by ojdollars(op): 1:55am On Jul 13, 2015
Nigeria is a country which has major challenges ahead. It now has a population of 183 million people. The population is increasing at about 4 to 5 million on a yearly basis. The median age is 17.8 years. This means that 50% of the population are below the age of 17.8 years old. In basic figures, this number is just over 91 million young people. I am afraid that, for obvious reasons, this is a statistic that scares the living daylights out of me.

Muhammadu Buhari a Muslim from the north has recently come to power through the ballot box. We need to remember that he previously seized power through a military coup. There are already ominous rumblings from the southern part of Nigeria over his cabinet appointments. His cabinet consists mainly of appointments from the north. Do we have another Biafra situation developing? This conflict resulted in the loss of 2 million lives due to famine from the blockade and fighting. I sincerely hope not. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groups which no doubt causes its own number of problems. Is there a conflict in the offing between the Muslims and Christians?

The handling of the abduction of the Chibok girls certainly did not cover the previous government in glory. Their non-action smacked of cowardice and fear of the kidnappers Boko Haram. I was quite frankly disgusted by the effort to recover these girls from their kidnappers. The world will no doubt judge Buhari on the handling of Boko Haram. Has he got the courage to take steps against his fellow Muslims?

Buhari is now in charge of the biggest economy on the African continent. Nigeria is one of the biggest oil producers in the world and yet has constant fuel shortages at home. I have heard that most households have a generator for the somewhat erratic power supply. There is a large unemployment problem with many of the people living below the poverty line. The challenge for Buhari is to harness the wealth generated by oil for the upliftment of the Nigerian people. He really needs to ask where this wealth is going to. It needs to be taken out of the pockets of the greedy few and used for the benefit of the whole of Nigeria.

Nigeria has a massive problem with corruption and bribery. In a survey that was done recently about 45% of the respondents admitted to paying bribes. Transparency International has labelled Nigeria as the most corrupt country on the African Continent as far as bribery and corruption are concerned. Has this practice become embedded as a way of life in this country? Buhari needs to handle this scourge head on. Over time billions has been stolen from the people of Nigeria. Does he have the courage to jail his friends who are involved in this endemic problem?

In conclusion, I believe that Buhari is now in charge of a very volatile situation which could blow up in his face. Is he the leader Nigeria has been looking for? Time will tell!!

PoliticsMr President, The "Honeymoon" Is Over - By Harry Slim Omoakhia by ojdollars(op): 6:08am On Jul 10, 2015
"The risk of a wrong decision is preferable to the terror of indecision"

~Maimonides

I believe every new government deserves a Grace Period. A time frame to overcome inertia, put its house in order, develop a policy statement without undermining prevailing circumstances in the polity. Selecting capable hands to pursue its policies, clean the "mess" of the outgoing administration if any and settle down fully to the business of governance. Within this period, obvious gaffes from the government can be overlooked, they can be spared of strong criticisms and pampered to gain confidence to steer the ship of the nation. These concessions are within the context of "ceteris paribus".

The resurgence of Boko Haram activities with its attendant loss of innocent lives, destruction of properties and fear in the populace has altered the status quo and automatically ended the grace period the new government was enjoying. Issues of Insecurity, Economy and Corruptions were the three major points the APC based its campaigns on. The last administration inability to tackle these issues with the urgency it needed led to its ouster. The inauguration of the new government took place on May 29th, 2015.

Nigerians waited with bated breath to see how the new government would tackle these pressing issues. They hope to enjoy true changes for the first time in 16years of its democracy, but events in the last 42 days has started raising question about the direction of the new government. The inability of the new government to form a cabinet has created uncertainty in the polity. Investors are still watching and waiting; a cursory look at the decline in the stock market gives credence to this fact. The Naira to Dollar rate is at its lowest in the Nation's history. Economically, the nation is on standstill.

Some pundits are of the opinion that the government can do without ministers. They base their argument on the fact that even without a cabinet the government has been running, this argument is laughable. The Nigerian polity is tailored in a way that it can even run on autopilot. There will always be motion, but having movement is what matters. Ministers are needed to coordinate activities in the various ministries in order to bring the policies of a government to fruition. There is a limit to what permanent secretaries can do.

Ministerial appointment is also a constitutional requirement. Although, the time frame to make such appointments was not explicitly stated in the Nigerian constitution, but their appointments and importance cannot be undermined. The delay in forming a cabinet has left many in doubt especially political circles; this is also responsible for the many internal wrangling in the polity. Even the secretary to the government of the federation is yet to be named despite its importance.

Today, Boko Haram insurgents who had earlier been routed out of Nigerian territory now carry out simultaneous attacks in the country with impunity leaving death, blood, pains and ruins in its trail, reminisce of the heydays of insurgency. What are the new government security policy and/or marshal plan to end or curtail this resurgence? More often, the presidency releases a statement that the insurgents will be crushed. But then release another statement that they will negotiate with the insurgents.

This flip-flop approach was the path the previous government took and paid dearly for it. The fight against terrorism no doubt requires a multi-disciplinary approach, but without taking a firm decision on how to kill the cancer, we will keep moving in circles. Is the government continuing with the policy of the previous administration? If no, why is the present government retaining the NSA and service chiefs of the previous administration? Suffice to say that the present government criticized their handling of the insurgency? So why still retain them? What has changed? These are the questions in the mind of Nigerians home and abroad.

Other decisions and/or indecision of the present government during the grace period can be excused or rationalized but the security of lives and properties of its citizens, which is its foremost responsibility, can never be overlooked. Boko Haram has ended Buhari's honeymoon. These recent attacks has brought to fore the urgency of having a competent cabinet to pilot the affairs of the nation. Fighting insurgency is not a piece of cake, every hand must be on deck, and every arm and apparatus of governance must function at its highest ebb to achieve meaningful progress.

Finally, President Muhammadu Buhari must realize that he is viewed as the most prepared president in Nigerian's history. Apart from the fact that he has ruled this nation before, he contested for the office of the president four consecutive times. It would have been better if he had lost again and join the league of the "best president Nigeria never had" than to win and fail especially with the huge expectations in the nation. His delayed decisions/indecision is causing a lot of uncertainty in the polity and that is a luxury we cannot afford at this time. We need to know the direction of the new government to guide our expectations and give support where necessary.

May God guide the President

God Bless Nigeria

PoliticsREVEALED: Buhari’s CSO Was “sacked” For Opposing Removal Of DSS Officials by ojdollars(op): 11:04pm On Jul 05, 2015
REVEALED: Buhari’s CSO was “sacked” for Opposing Removal of DSS officials from Aso Rock by ADC

The cold war between Mani Abdulrahman, Chief Security officer to the President and Lt-Col Muhammed Lawal Abubakar Aide De camp to the President. Climaxed yesterday with the transfer of the CSO to Ebonyi state. Mani who is an official of the Department of State Service (DSS a.k.a the Nigerian Secret Police) was head of Buhari personal security even before the General elections that was held in April 2015.

His unceremonious removal yesterday by the New Director General of the DSS, was received with mixed reactions. Contrary to reports on different media on alleged disclosure of his boss itinerary to a former minister as the "chief" reason for Mani's removal, information available to FCT Post indicate that the main reason for his removal was due to inter-agency rivalry in the villa on whom to take over the Body Guard Unit.

Like in most Nations, the Nigerian Secret Police apart from is statutory duties as the nations primary domestic intelligence agency, ais also charged with the protection of the President, Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, State Governors, their immediate families, other high ranking government officials, past Presidents, their spouses, certain candidates for the offices of President and Vice President, and visiting foreign heads of state and government.

It will be recalled that on resumption in the villa, the President's ADC in conjunction with the President security ally who has been rumored to be the next National Security Adviser (NSA) sent signals to officials of the DSS officials to vacate their duty post. This move irked the CSO, who insisted that according to practice, close body protection of the president is the duty of the DSS and asked his men to remain in their duty post hence starting a cold war, which climaxed yesterday with his removal.

With his removal, it is unclear if the President's bodyguard will be replaced with men of the Nigerian Army Intelligence Corps. President Muhammadu Buhari was a former Military Head of State from 1983 to 1985. The DSS is one of the three branches formed from the notorious defunct NSO. It is a department in the Presidency and under the control of the National Security Adviser (NSA).

PoliticsWarning Graphic: The Marikana Killings, History Repeating Itself by ojdollars(op): 8:01am On Jul 05, 2015
There is a documented history in South Africa, of police brutality. The apartheid regime was known for the atrocities which it committed against the people of this land. The Sharpeville massacre and the June 16 uprising are two examples of what the Police in South Africa were capable of when challenged by ordinary citizens. Many people were hopeful that with the end of the apartheid system, the Police would have done what is expected of them, which, of course, is to protect innocent civilians.

The ANC-led government rose to power raising the hopes of many South Africans, the people of South Africa believed that their lives would improve and they would not see a repeat of the Sharpeville massacre of June 16, 1976, uprising in Soweto. Many people reacted with shock as they witnessed the events of the August 16th, 2012 which is the now infamous Marikana Massacre that took place when the workers at a mine situated in Marikana decided to embark on industrial action, without knowing the fate they would suffer that day. The men who lost their lives could not have predicted that they would have been killed by the Police
that were supposed to have maintained order.

The President decided to initiate a Commission of Inquiry which was led by Judge Ian Farlam with the aim of establishing what happened at Marikana. The loss of lives of 34 miners at Marikana and another 10 could not go unaccounted for. It was important to establish how that a peaceful strike protest embarked by the Mineworkers could result in such a violent loss of life.

We are now in July of 2015 and a 600-page report has been compiled with its findings implicating the Police. The Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega has been ordered by the President to respond to the findings of the Farlam Commission no later than July 31st, 2015. One of the recommendations made by the Commission is that an Inquiry should be held into the fitness of the National and Provincial Commissioners to hold office.

It has been just 21 years since the birth of the new democracy that South Africa now enjoys and it will be interesting to see just how the government will respond to the atrocities committed at Marikana. The government has always wanted to be seen as one that respects human rights, but with its image that has been dented by the incidents of August 16th, 2012 at the Lonmin Mine at Marikana, a lot of hard work is needed to win back the trust and confidence of the citizens of South Africa. The families who lost their loved ones on the day of the massacre will want to know how to move on after suffering such trauma.

“Even the most well executed attack can be ruined if momentum is lost.”

~Sun Tzu

Lack of political will, low morale of troops and inadequate equipment were the major challenges identified as the cause of defeat to the Nigerian Army in the hands of the insurgents. It was disheartening to know that the Nigerian Army that was highly honored and awarded recognition has peace keepers were undermined by what use to be a rag-tag Boko Haram. The news of demise of some soldiers whom I used to call “professional peacekeepers” jolted me to the reality and enormity of the threat in the North East.

These gallant soldiers were part of peacekeeping missions in Liberia, Sierra-Leone, Somalia, Sudan and many other African countries. But unfortunately, these armies were killed by insurgents in their own country. The height of the insurgency was the capture of towns and cities in Nigeria and hoisting of the Boko Haram flags. As a Nigerian citizen, these period was a very difficult and ignominious moment for the nation.

In February 2015, the National Security Adviser (NSA) requested for a 6 weeks postponement of the general elections inorder to carry out the final onslaught of a military operation codenamed “ZamanLafiya”; designed to remove insurgents out of Nigerian territory. However, many criticised the postponement of the election as it was viewed as a plot by the Government to decelerate the momentum of the political campaigns for political expediency.

According to the military leaders, the operation had been planned before the general elections and denied any political undertone. With the support of the locals, the Nigerian Army were able to carry an all round assault on the insurgent’s base with the state of he art weapons that were delivered before the elections to them.

Village-by-Village, Boko haram insurgents were routed. Even the dreaded “Sambisa Forest” was not spared as it was bombarded and captives were set free. The battle cry was #NEVER AGAIN. Never Again shall our land be annexed by insurgents. Never Again shall we watch and allow insurgents to kill fellow Nigerians with impunity.

The morale of the troops was at its highest. Boko Haram insurgents who had controlled about 14 Local Governments in Nigeria were displaced and scattered all over the Sahara desert. Zaman Lafiya was a military success. When the elections finally came, Nigerians in the North East were able to exercise their franchise without fear of attacks by insurgents.

At an interactive session with friends on the success of the military operation, I opined that though Operation Zaman Lafiya helped in routing the insurgents out of Nigerian soil, it was not yet uhuru. Nigeria must sustain the momentum while preparing for the next stage of the insurgency. It is instructive to note that on March 6th 2015, Boko Haram pledged its allegiance to the Islamic State.

The Islamic State had earlier sent signals to its members and organisations sympathetic to its cause who cannot come to the Middle East, to carry out attacks in their respective domains. On March 12th 2015, the Islamic State in a statement accepted the pledge of allegiance by Boko Haram raising concerns on the future of war against terrorism in Nigeria.

In a dramatic twist, Boko Haram changed its name to Islamic State in West Africa on April 23rd 2015. The reasons for change of modus operandi were not far-fetched. Having suffered an embarrassing defeat from a now better armed and motivated Nigerian Army, they wanted a leeway and the only option was to become an extension of the most notorious and well funded terrorist organization in the world.

These transition period witnessed pockets of isolated attacks by insurgents. In his inaugural speech, the new president reiterated the resolve of the new Government to tackle the insurgents head on and continue where the outgoing Government stopped. To this end, the Military Command was moved from Abuja to Maiduguri. The move seemed to have stirred the Hornets net as Insurgents went on rampage 24hrs after the announcement, attacking villages and killing helpless Nigerians.

Within a week, over 300 Nigerians were reported dead in the North East from these attacks. The attacks continued almost everyday, raising questions as if we are now back to the heydays of the insurgency. Apart from a press statements condemning the attacks, the new Government has not told the citizens in clear terms how they will contain the new wave of attacks.

10The Military command which was moved to the war front is yet to be fully operational as installation of equipment is still ongoing. The question on the lips of every Nigerian now is “Are we back to scary days of Boko Haram attacks? when will this new attacks stop? What happened to the momentum during the crescendo of Zaman Lafiya? Is this a new challenge? What is the motivating factor for these recent attacks? Who is responsible”?

Boko Haram has killed, maimed, displaced and caused untold hardship, pain to many Nigerians. The New Government promised during their campaigns and inauguration to bring the reign of terror to an end, the resurgence of terrorist activities is a serious source of concern. The Government should be very proactive to face this new challenge and save further destruction of lives and properties. We cannot go back to the heydays of Boko Haram activities. #NEVER AGAIN!

God Bless Nigeria

FootNote; Let me pay special tribute to men and women of the Nigeria Armed Forces and Volunteers of the Civillian Joint Task Force (CJTF) who lost their lives fighting during Operation Zaman Lafiya. May their Patriotic and Brave Souls Rest In Peace. Amen

We are considered to be the rape capital of the world. For some obscure reason South African men appear to be susceptible to committing rape. I do not know whether it is in our genes or there is some other malfunction in our system that triggers the urge to rape. Maybe the men in our country have a serious image and ego problem that they feel that they have to assert their manhood in this manner. No female in this country is safe from the scourge of rape. Children from the age of two months and right up to the age of ninety have been raped. Some are repeatedly gang raped by the rapists. There have been cases reported where ten of these “gentlemen” had their way with some poor unfortunate women. It has been suggested in some quarters that it is a culture thing. I do not think so, it must be extremely difficult being a woman in our country.

In the year 2013/2014 the rape statistics given were just over 46,000. It has been estimated that only 1 in 9 cases are ever reported to the police. This in fact suggests that there were in fact over 400,000 rape cases for this period. The authorities said that they had a conviction rate of about 67% for 6,000 cases brought to court. You do not have to be a mathematical genius to work out this percentage against the reported 46,000 let alone against the 400,000. These are rather sobering and indeed horrifying figures. The bottom line is that there are 40,000 reported rapes which have not been solved for this period. This means that these gentlemen are walking around free in our society.

I believe that there has to be a radical change to our legislation, as far as dishing out justice to these perpetrators of rape is concerned. No bail to be allowed and on conviction a minimum mandatory sentence of 20 years imposed with hard labor, and no possibility of parole. Furthermore the sentencing must include a mandatory castration in one of our state hospitals without any anesthetic procedure. A recording has to be made of the screams while the individual is being castrated. This recording can be given to the rape victim as part of the restorative justice system that is in place. I am sure that she may just enjoy the screams of her rapist. The offending organ of rape needs to be incapacitated, a man without his testicles is hardly likely to get an erection and a load in his joystick to commit rape.

The scourge of rape in our country needs to be faced squarely. Draconian types of crime have to be combated with draconian measures. Our citizens need to realize that their actions have very specific consequences.

As a closing salvo, all convicted rapists to be kept in a separate prison. The warders in this prison must be all women. They must be beautiful, sexy long legged females. The convicted rapists would have twenty years to ponder on their crimes while being looked after by these warders. This would surely be the poetic form of justice!!!

It is just OK. The floor assigned to be used for Passport services and Visa applications is a bit small, and therefore is usually crowded. The staff there are like regular government staff in Nigeria, so do not expect them to go over and beyond to satisfy their customers.

If you want to use their services, visit their website and read the information pages thoroughly, Do not skip any steps, because if you do, and show up at this consulate, the could get rude with you.

Yes, the service is really bad, but we all need to stop complaining and find a way of getting better services. Firstly, it starts with getting the consulate staff some training in customers services and relations, obviously the Ambassador and senior diplomats don't think this is important, hence the bad disgruntled service we get. Secondly, we Nigerians are very impatient and obnoxious as customers, behavior that generally would have been rewarded by an escort out the office by a security officer into a waiting Police car is often exhibited, so I don't blame the Consulate staff for continuing with such bad attitudes. Two wrongs obviously don't make a right, so until we start making complaints to the right office, and we change our attitudes and live by setting the right example, things will remain the SAME!
Tip: Have your originals, copies and required money orders. As soon as you enter any waiting area make sure you collect your tally number and make sure you're noticed by greeting the officer or inquiring if you're in the right place, even if she/he grunts back. On the humorous side, anybody going to Nigeria for the first time, receives a very honest image of what to expect when you get to Nigeria, preventing any culture shock. cheesy

I know its probably more popular to bash the Consulate and it's staff...sorry to disappoint. Was there just today & had a very good experience as has been the case for many I know. Our common denominator....we all carefully read the posted instructions for the services we were seeking and followed them!!! As long as you follow clearly articulated instructions via internet or posted all over the (rather untidy) walls in the consulate, it is a regular efficient and professional experience. Only problem, during my 2.5hrs there, 80% of those who came in had either NOT read the instructions, properly followed them or remained uninterested in following them once explained to them. Rather, they preferred to blame the consulate staff for giving them "wahala". Not true. Mine and several other "minority" voices are proof that if you simply pay attention to the rules (as you have to for similar services around the world), then you'll do just fine. My second time around in 5 yrs. Both positive experiences. Got my passport renewed as promised via DC embassy without any problems whatsoever. Mailed back to me within 10 days. Kudos to the staff, keep up the good work.

I usually like to give the benefit of the doubt. But I must say that I was not all that pleased with the service I received at the Consulate. They were never rude to me. In fact, they were quite nice. But it's still a headache and a waste of time going there to process anything. You take a whole day out of work, child out of school, yet you still have to come back for some stupid reason. I don't get it. When are we ever going get with the program?

Yes, I went to the Nigerian Embassy to simply get my passport, now I followed the instructions on the web site to the T, because I anticipated a bureaucratic nigthmare and boy was I right.

My question is how could the employees of the Nigerian Consulate AKA ( RAT HOLE), receive exceptional customer service, respect and efficiency from the many services they receive by being in the Untied States. Instead, they go back to thier RAT HOLE and deliver sub-par service to their "Citizens". I am disappointed and frankly embarassed by them.

So... My BRODAS if you are going to that RAT HOLE be prepeared to spend all day watching RATS running from room to room being as inefficient as can be, and embarrasing Nigerians as well as Nigeria.

We need to train our folks on how to be civil to others especially in customer facing roles.Though the process for new passport applications seems straight (once you figure out the requirements) the work attitude in the High Commision bothers on a total disregard for applicants - from the cramped and hot waiting room to the lady who was tasked with giving out the issued passports. She was sitting right in front of everyone with a stack of new passports and receiving private calls on her cell without bothering to explain why we had to wait for 30 minutes just to pick up a passport. We can certainly do better than this!

POOR SERVICE. Even if you are the very first person there and you don't know anybody, nobody will give you any information until they are done with their friends then they will talk to you. Worst service in the whole world. Even the people working there don't even know what to do. They give you the wrong advice even when you ask so beware, just ask those that are actually processing the application. And the clerks at the lobby are rude and "cranky" like they don't even wanna see their fellow Nigerians. I recommend trying another consulate general. I know I will in the future.

the guards are so rude and unfriendly. The guy in charge yells at you and at older citizens. They are understaffed so I had to go there 4 times. Nigerians misuse power once they have it. Once they leave the embassy they becomes slaves to the white man.

Staff at the embassy are unprofessional especially one Mrs Silver who is fair skin in complexion when attending to my mother.when she asked us to get a $20 money order when asked for the additional fee after paying $112 online she rudely replied "don't you see other people with money order?" as if we knew "her so called other people" purpose to the consulate 07/14/09. people like this tarnish the image of our beloved country.or shouldn't visit nigeria anymore?

PoliticsGoogle Reviews Of Nigerian Embassy, New York - From 40 Nigerians by ojdollars(op): 3:32pm On Apr 30, 2015
Good day my fellow Compatriots, we all voted for the Change and I think we all collectively made the right choice on March 28th of 2015. Below are some reviews of other fellow Compatriots about the Nigerian Embassy in New York - A.K.A The Nigeria House. Your excellency; President-Elect General Muhammadu Buhari, Sir we need a change in our embassies around the world, especially in Asia, South Africa, Canada, United Kingdom and The United States of America. Please hire new people, Nigerians of high reputation in civil service or in the private sector, not by man know man, please we need a change for real.

I have no wahala with the Nigeria embassy. They are ok. I have a MAJOR MAJOR issue with the payment system. it is a pain in the neck when you need to make payment for more than one person or for someone else without same last name. all my complains below is for the payment system.
1) The whole customer service department should be fired.
2) there needs to be another rival payment option other than this innovate. But who am i kidding. this is naija. someone gave the contract to their friend. Who only cares about collecting money and not improving the system/service. To top it off. He outsourced it to cheap labor in India...
3) It takes you hours to get through to the unhelpful customer service department.
4) They do not respond to emails.
5) They give you generic answer after you have given them detailed explanation of what you have done. They cannot think outside the box.
6) They should be able to process payment over the phone if a customer is having problems making the payment online after verifications.
7) Nigeria Embassy need to start accepting money order at the embassy.

It should not feel like a death sentence to get a passport/Visa.

Had a mixed feeling before going there, friends and relatives were not too positive about my mission getting accomplished that same day, that was the same feeling by most of the applicant.
But it turns out the reverse was the case as we were welcome by one Mrs Debie pardon me for the wrong spelling, she was the consulate attachee ,she was professional, great customer service, friendly and motherly caring for everyone.
The bottom line is she and the other employees went beyond and above to make sure we had our passport the same day.
i will surely recommend that new applicants should make there their first chioce but please go with the require paper work.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA

Horrible customer service. The woman who was on the phone on the 5th of February 2015 was absolutely rude, cursed like a drunken sailor, and then cut the phone when I asked for clarification about the renewal of my International passport. It is such a shame that Nigeria spends so much money to employ people of such a low caliber.

So as this is the second time a Nigerian consulate has cost me (the first time was the uber useless canadian one located in ottawa), I feel compelled to write a review.
I went to this consulate to renew a passport that was near expiry since the planned trip to Nigeria which was when it was to have been renewed had to be cancelled due to ebola outbreak (don't get me started on how these idiots knew there was an outbreak a few countries over, months before and didn't start screening if not on a federal level at airports at least by the fracking state governments that had international airports situated in their states).
So i get to this place and the printer is broken, which is fine as these things happen but you'd think they'd have a backup machine given the volume of passports they print or at least have a service contract that ensures a 24hr turn around time, but no. What really gets my goat is that they have a website where you can easily update citizens who'd be coming around for one thing or another on situations like this (setting this up is the most trivial thing you can do in the software/computer infrastructure world), but that would make sense right?
if they had done this once the passports was ready those of us that could and had urgent time-critical things to do with the passports would have come around to pick them up, which in my case has now cost me hundreds of dollars even though the passport was ready in time for what i wanted to do but the yahoos at these place couldn't figure out how to streamline and make a simple notification process available either publicly or privately via email addresses (which was provided during the application process) to the various clients of their services.
By the sword of Ogun and the Palm Oil of Esu, may each and every worker at this consulate who was involved lose hundreds of dollars in the comming weeks and months ...

FEELING BITTERED.
Got humiliated by a costumer service representative of the Nigerian Immigration services. I called to reschedule my VISA renewal appointment about an hour ago. I suggested her to send me a confirmatory email for d change in date. She washed me like cloth saying that am telling her how to do her job and hung d phone on me. I regret not recording d conversation. I was skeptical of their Fidelity cos am traveling all d way from Houston. M.A rom Houston.

It was actually a good experience, contrary to what I had heard or was expecting. Mrs. Dibia gave a long but funny speech. I got my passport the same day and I did not even have to beg or cry. Just go there early and make sure you have all the documents stated on the website.

Cheers.

Cannot get anyone on the phone in the NY Embassy. The phone system goes goes in a loop no matter what option you choose. These folks have received my passport. Is this a joke?
Our government should demand they close that circus house if these folks continue to operate that way.

I literally got off the phone with a woman with a british accent so immediately I thought I would be treated with respect. Of course that was not the case at all. She had the most disgusting "why don't you just help yourself" attitude. I know some Nigerians are not the most polite people, from past experiences and because I used to live there, but lord have mercy you do not need to have a job answering phones if you are going to be so disgusting. Your unwillingness to help anyone is so unnecessary. You shouldn't work there and someone should be listening to how you are turning people AWAY . Good job.

Auntie at the visa desk came 30 minutes early to explain the documentation needed. (Which 3/4 of the people waiting did NOT have) The other lady who helped me told me what I needed to process my visa and it was ready the next morning as soon as I hit there which was opening! They actually processed some emergency cases the same day.

Unfortunately, the staff here is under appreciated. I had made an appointment years before as a 19 year-old to find what products I could export to Nigeria and the minister spent over an hour going over the import list and how to navigate the process of doing business in Nigeria.

I love Nigeria House. Ignore the complaints of entitled Nigerians. The staff is small, but they work very hard here.

Haha.. I was actually very surprised that this place was actually smaller than I expected ( better than Nigeria where its to crowded) I also received my passport on the same day, which is a PLUS!!
VERY VERY Good Service.
The People - By people , I mean the customers- can actually be Rude to the people serving them, very impatient. _ which makes the officials seem BAD.
MY ADVICE : If You Want to Get things Done, Get all Your documents READY And patiently wait in line because You WILL be there all DAY. In the END it's worth it. Just be patient.
ALSO > THE people giving bad reviews are part of the reason Nigeria is the way it is.. LOL

Was there 2 weeks ago. The people that work there are incredibly rude, lack respect and are very miserable. They talk to people anyhow and even yell at customers. No organization and if they like you, then move you up in the line. Many people that arrived after me were attended to first and I had ALL of the required paperwork and got there when they opened. They don't even deserve one star.

Thumbs up Nigerian Embassy Newyork.I was really surprised to receive good service.I submitted my application and received my passport the same day.The service was swift and the staff were friendly even taking time out to make the kids feel comfortable. The only negative experience was at the front desk. The lady who collected the application was kind of rude, even though she achieved the job,her tone was wrong. However on average I must say they got it right this time.Let's hope you will keep it up! Good job!

If there was a review less than Poor, that’s the score they deserve. The New York Nigerian Embassy should learn from the Washington Dc Embassy. After so many trials of phone calls someone finally picks up and who is it? A douche bag lady, that calls herself a controller with a fake British accent. By the way she never gives out her name. She is so rude and obnoxious. she tell you she will direct you to the right office but ends up giving you her own opinion, tells you she can tell you what ever she feel like and lets you know you can't do anything about with a threatens to drop the call. And then when you ask her to speak to someone else or what’s her name? Guess what!!! She drops the phone call on you and never pick up. She should be fired she is the only one with that Fake British accent and there are no two of them. I’m not sure how she got that Job. She is a douchebag!!! And a ******* fill in the blanks

My friend, racism is well institutionalised here in UK but pretend to the whole world as if it does not exist here. These people are nothing but pure racists.

Let me share my last experience with you here. A white British guy who was my neighbour threatened me by saying he was going to kill me with a gun within few mins. I didn't take it serious until another parking incident took place. He threatened me again with a gun but before he left, I told him that he was lucky that we are in a country where criminal record exist otherwise, I would have beaten him to stupor.

He left but came back few hours later with a real gun this time around. I kept quiet while he was cursing me with the gun in his hand. I wanted to play Stevester Stallion but I thought to myself that o boy, this motherfucker would just pull the trigger and that would be the end. I decided to chill till he left my door.

I went inside and called police about what had just happened. They came with their dogs, helicopters and armed policemen hiding in all the strategic places around his house which wasn't far away from mine.

However, a lady police was taking my report while the rest of the police men were on his ass; searching his place for a gun which they eventually found but unknown to me at that point in time.

Finally, few days after the incident, the police called me that I have to come to Court that the case I have been scheduled to be heard in one of the crown courts. I wasn't happy cos the police told me that the case might take couple of days which would affect my rota at work. I tot about it and I called them back to inform them that I wasn't interested in the case but only to be told that it's mandatory for me to attend cos the case was now btw my neighb our and the state cos gun was involved. At this juncture, i now said to myself that Mo ma gbe oooo.

The hearing date came and trial started. To my greatest surprise, police man in charge started playing games with me by stylishly turning the case against me. O boy, I started calling my friends and church members who are lawyers to seek their advice about my predicament..........

Hmmmmm!!! O boy, they nearly put the whole case on my head oooo if not cos of my lawyer friend and church members who are lawyers by profession.
Please friend, if this story is true. Check my profile and contact me ASAP with more details and I will make sure we publish it here in the States.

FamilyAre Nigerian Women Truely The Most Unfaithful? Vanguard Article by ojdollars(op): 10:55am On Apr 09, 2015
I was doing some research about a whole different topic; Nigeria Steel. When I ran into these article on Vanguard with caption: Marital Infidelity: Are Nigerian women truely the most unfaithful? , this comment by one user, My Mumu Country captured my attention. So I decided to share these with the house to know what everyone thinks about the user's comment below, make we move away from politics small.

Nigerian women are the most unfaithful women in the world. Go to University campuses and see how young girls sell their body for sex. An average teenage Nigerian girl can have ten to twenty boyfriends and sugar daddies. They have one for school fees, one for taking care of hairstyle, one for usual pocket money, one for recharge card phones and latest gadgets, one for paying hostel room fees, one for taking them on vacations, one for shopping on latest wears in vogue and one for general purpose need. They called these boyfriends or Sugar Daddies "Muggus" or "Mgbada". That is "Foolish Ones" or "Cheap Antelope meat". A Nigerian girl can marry a husband twice her father's age due to ulterior motive. If you want to know how bad Nigeria women are, dare take her overseas and specially USA. The divorce rate in America is 35% but 55% among Nigerian married spouse. Once they use their husband's citizen statue to come into USA as an immigrant or "green Card" holder, then the game sets in. They will start quoting "American Laws" as if it was taught to them in Nigerian primary and secondary schools.

The deceitful and unscrupulous ones will start running faster than their shadow in America. On arrival, they use their spouse financial well-being to obtain education specially in the Nursing field, once they secure a good paying job, insubordination in marital affairs kicks in. They start trumping up flimsy excuses to divorce their spouse. Most times, they start keeping opposite sex friends outside marriage and start depriving their husband the natural need of life.(The guys know what I mean). For any slightest of provocation, they will call the law enforcement to arrest their husband. The statue of liberty"American MamaWater" or "Evil Marmaid" donated by France gives freedom of immunity to women and children in the USA.

That woman carrying a torch in one hand and situated in Staten Island was donated by France to corrupt USA. It gives women the torch of Freedom but some women turn the freedom to "Free-Doom". Most ungodly women use it as an advantage against their husband when it comes to marital differences. Most of them want divorce because they have found third party, or want to live a single lifestyle due to promiscuous life-style. It does not matter how many children they have in that marriage. In USA, Igbo women divorce their husband more than any tribe. About seventeen Nigerians have killed their female/wives after been driven to temporary insanity. They say "Temporary Insanity" but the best thing is to walk away from the house and move on with a new life once these women start their "abracadabra" in marriage. Some men try fighting back but end up been the loser. Their financial earning garnished from paying monthly child support and rendered homeless in America. 70% of American men are in jail due to problems with their wives or girlfriends. Yeye de smell for America.
