Over 50 persons have lost their lives and over 100 injured in the illegal local mining site at Mayo-Sina, near Nguroje, Sardauna local government area of Taraba State. Despite the rise in number deaths, more persons across the country and neighbouring West African countries are trooping to the area on a daily basis. They are reportedly making millions of money in the area, which is said to have deposits of diamond and other minerals resources. Mayo-Sina is perhaps one of the fastest growing settlements in the world, having being discovered only in January this year. A young man of less than 20 years found a single stone which has earned him N32 million -being the biggest sale, after spending only a few days in Mayo-Sina, popularly known as the ‘Blue Village.’ Our correspondent who spent 18 hours at the site on Wednesday and Thursday gathered that the miners perished when the roofs of deep holes and caves they dug and burrowed into collapsed on them. “You know they continue to burrow into holes like rodents, in search of diamond and other precious stones. When the roof of the cave or surface of the earth fell on them, they suffocated to death before anything could be done,” said one of the miners. Michael Akura, another miner, likened the cause of the deaths of the local miners to “greed.” Akura, 47, said he has seen over 20 persons die, apart from those who died before he arrived at Mayo-Sina to dig for precious stones. He added that the miners were too eager to make money such that they were not ready to take precautionary measures in spite of the deaths. “Many more will still die,” he said. As Akura explained, another report came that four other miners have been trapped. They were removed but two of them looked lifeless. Some labourers removed clothes and were fanning them. One of the miners said they were already dead. Chairman of Sardauna local government council, Dr. David Jedua, said he has written to the state government about the development which he described as illegal mining of minerals. He said he was going to personally visit the site to see things for himself and discuss with the people there. He added that he has provided adequate security in the area to ensure that the people maintain law and order in spite of the illegal mining. Jedua said he has also planned to set up a Quarantine Unit in the site for the people to be tested of the dreaded Ebola virus disease. The council boss however said it was a welcome development since the mining, though illegal, has drastically reduced hunger and unemployment in the area “Coming during my tenure, I see it as one of my achievements or blessings of my administration. The people would have carried arms to terrorise people, but they took to tilling the earth. “I am finding time to go there and see them eye to eye, discuss with them and see how they are faring, especially in terms of security -before the state government will either give them the go ahead or stop them. “At the local government level, the best we can do is to provide security for them. I have asked all the security agencies there: Immigration, Customs, Civil Defence and the police, to take statistics of what is happening there especially on the foreigners going there. “They are to ensure the foreigners have their passports and other necessary papers. You know one has to be very careful in handling miners to prevent them from rioting. All over the world, miners are known to be violent people. “But for now, we are happy with what they are doing because the local mining has boosted our economy and as well reduced the level of unemployment in the land. “The youth who were hitherto idle and men and women who had no source of livelihood have now found a source of living. I thank God; it is one of the blessings of my administration,” he said. Nigeria is just a little close to being out of the nations cup action next year. It is just amazing how some Nigerians would support mediocre coaching decisions from Keshi and his technical teams. Whether we win or not, I would humbly suggest that Amaju Pinnick should go for a foreign coach. You can't run the National team like you run your home, having personal grudges with our best legs. Because they nick names you the big boss, Keshi needs to go. This is not the Nigerian team we are used to, no no no. Keshi has to go for a better and sound technical coach to come in. Enough is enough, football is what unites us. |

Hello Uncles and Aunties, I beg I need una help for here, you guys are really doing a great job on this thread with a lot of information one can't find on the CIC Page. I have a relative who is a Nurse Manager in the US, NY to be precise. She came to the U.S at age 12 or so, went to High School in NY, got her Associate Degree in Nursing and just have 3months to have her BS in Nursing. Please she only has like a work permit, she has reviewed the requirement on the CIC official FSW Page and likewise myself has gone through that page. I just have some question on of her: 1). Is she qualified to Apply from the U.S? 2). Does she need to write the IELTS Exam since she grad from a US High School? 3). Does she need to convert her Associate Degree awarded by a US College by WES before she can apply? Please Note: She has been a Nurse for 7 years, she has the work experience and some other stuff. Please I need guidance on she can apply for this FSW Program. I will be grateful for any vital information that is made available. Thanks to all forumites |

From Yahoo News (US) Nigeria – One of the youngest squads in the tournament that should not be underestimated. Source: http://sports.yahoo.com/news/soccer--usa-draws-into-group-of-death-for-2014-world-cup-173015593.html Group A: Brazil – Host nation is a clear favorite to win it all and was the seed no one wanted to meet. Croatia – Shaky in qualifying and winless in World Cups since 1998; Luka Modric is a shining light. Mexico – Fortunate to qualify after desperate CONCACAF form pushed it to the brink of elimination. Cameroon – Lowest-ranked of the African nations after patchy form over the past year. Group B: Spain – Defending champion started slowly in 2010, losing to Switzerland in first game. Netherlands – 2010 runner-up was somehow unseeded and a team nobody wanted to face. Chile – Struggled early in qualifying but was near perfect late on and will be a real threat. Australia – Fired coach Holger Osieck after heavy friendly defeats and comes in with little momentum. Group C: Colombia – Radamel Falcao heads a deep squad keen to shine after missing last three tournaments. Greece – Not much fun to watch; defensively excellent but short on attacking firepower. Ivory Coast – Eliminated in the Group of Death last time, Didier Drogba’s back for one last shot. Japan – Greatly improved team more than capable of creating some shocks against bigger opponents. Group D: Uruguay – Reached the semis four years ago but survived a qualifying scare this time around. Costa Rica – Qualifying success was built upon outstanding home form, struggles on the road. England – Lacking in confidence and inspiration and comes in with its lowest expectations in decades. Italy – Champions in 2006, awful in 2010, full of talent and believes it can go all the way. Group E: Switzerland – Considered the weakest seeded team but a skillful unit capable of going deep. Ecuador – Clinched a World Cup spot for only the third time and has never gone past the last 16. France – Scraped through with a playoff comeback, hopes to atone for humiliating 2010 campaign. Honduras – Has reached two previous World Cups but has yet to record its first victory. Group F: Argentina – Lionel Messi heads a confident team looking to secure first title since 1986. Bosnia-Herzegovina – The only newcomer in the 32-strong field, highly talented but unpredictable. Iran – Managed just one point from three games in 2006 and failed to qualify in 2010. Nigeria – One of the youngest squads in the tournament that should not be underestimated. Group G: Germany – Third in 2010 and aims to build on positive vibe created by its dominant club teams. Ghana – Knocked out the U.S. in 2010 before being heartbreakingly denied a semifinal spot. United States – Regarded as the strongest team in its pot after topping CONCACAF group. Portugal – Cristiano Ronaldo single-handedly won a tense playoff but has yet to shine at World Cup. Group H: Belgium – Reached first World Cup since 2002 after huge improvement and a superb qualifying campaign. Russia – Finished first in a tough qualifying group that also featured Portugal and Sweden. Algeria – Bottom of the U.S. group in 2010 and one of the weakest teams, at least on paper. South Korea – An easy campaign became nail-biting late on; finally booked place on goal differential. |

@All... Mingling With Jejelady is the best thing that can happen to you as a Nigerian living in Dallas area. We have build a community, a family together with loads of other Nairalander folks. I'm going to be there Live. See you there also. One Love Keeps US Together |
Buhari is the Best President Nigeria has ever Had and will ever have, except God intervene and sends us another better replacement. Is it just me or some other folks right here is seeing what this great Man did? |
@ The All Grammatical and Intelligent Suppose Local Nigerians living in Nigeria... I don't blame you all because you were not in the girls shoes or place of treatment melted to her. I live in Dallas, Texas and the same thing happened to me. This Nigerian Ambassadors or Diplomatic personnel don't give a shit like Mr.President about the plight of Nigerians living abroad. They talk to people anyhow and treat people like they worth nothing. I lost my Passport, got a police report from Dallas PD and called Atlanta after many weeks of communication from back to back on how to get a re-issued passport and finally instructed me to go to San Antonio which is nearly 6hrs away to visit their personnel in an Hotel somewhere in SA... Went there with all the Money Order they demanded I bring along when coming to their intervention, which include penalty for loosing my passport amounting $370usd as the fee and then another $100+ for other fees. And $65 for a fee online and return envelope paid. I spent nearly $600usd. Got to San Antonio and told me that they do not have the Machine to process my Passport that is already in their Database (DB) and only needed to be reprinted as the process of the re-issuing. I explained to them with a very calm voice, pleaded with them that I drove nearly 600Miles from Dallas to this place leaving Biz and work to get there. But all that fell in a deaf ear and they refer me back to Atlanta which covers this Jurisdiction. I went with an American friend of mine and she just couldn't believe it, tears came out of her eyes for me Hahahaha, she hasn't seen any Nation melting such manner of treatment to Her own Citizen that made it the Nation she is. I didn't do nothing, I just let all that Gas Money wasted, time wasted and some other issues. The Nigeria Presidency needs to step up their Game.. It doesn't cost a $1 bill to call this people to Order, they are your Employees appointed by you and recommended to you by your God Fathers or Senate or House Of Rep Pally. Is just a phone call or an email, for I know that there are many Prominent Nigerians who come to Nairaland everyday and are reading and viewing this thread. It's good you showed some concern and patriotism and opened this thread for your viewing pleasure or to satisfy your curiosity trying to find out why this woman said she would tear up her Nigerian passport. The Maltreatment of Nigerians in Diaspora is too much, they don't even know that they put their own life at risk with such bad attitude, why because Nigerians are cool headed people, do this to an American or an African who has Americanized or Canadianized, they would shoot you and leave you to die in your car from your windshield. Let's treat other folks right, other nations are watching, people expect more from us as a Nation that prides itself as the Giant Of AFRICA with no standard backing the claim. If you're in Govt, please spread the word to your colleagues in the right department and all of that. I will do my best to send this Video and other complaints alike to the Department of Justice, the Nigerian Senate and House Of Rep through online resources that would aid in getting the right addresses. It won't cost a thing, just want the voice of those innocent and Brave Nigerians to be heard. We are people of Love, unity, happiness and progress, we would not let a few take that which bound us together from us. No Matter What Happens... I'M Proud To Be A Nigerian... |

amaboss: From time to time, new Naira notes are pumped into the economy, billions of money spent to improve the face of the Naira notes but little attention paid to how to improve the value of the Naira notes. Someone said "Beauty comes from within." The real beauty of the Naira note is not gotten from improving the face. You treasure what you value, so long as the Naira is not valued, new notes will be pumped to persuade people to treasure it.@amaboss ... You have a valid point, but what happened if you write the Dailies, Channel TV, Vanguard to get your point across to where it needs to really get to? I mean, na so Foreign people they do am naaaa.. Thank you for your Patriotic concern... |
babyosisi: FYI my hubby and I came to the USA two months apart ,and we got our green card the same day@Babyosisi.... Thank you for the Information you dishing you... But please, take it easy, let's live with love... Adults don't aproach matters like this.. You mean well, Emeka mean well.. I beg make una stop the Insult and live united. One Nigeria!!! @Emeka.... Please stop the insult, just be more polite, you are a good material believe me.... Educationally sound, but you must learn to respect others, cause you won't want your past to come hunt you later, ignorance is no excuse... Just apoilogize to everyone you have said one bad stuff to or the other and make peace. |
Ms Nas: And I'm obligated to answer you?Be courteous please.... |
Ms Nas: Just take it easy and let the guy talk for himself. No need bursting an artery defending someone you dunno. Let him come speak for himself, buster@Ms Nas, why the argument and fighting over somebody's post that is intended to inform His own brothers back home that was borne out of love for his country men? By the way, what State do you reside in Ms Nas? |
@Ozo_Emeka God Richly Bless You For This Information You took your time to put out here. @ALL Nairalanders.... You know me by now... I will tell you whole heartedly. What this Nairalander is saying is nothing but the real truth. All He has said is, make a well informed decision before leaving Nigeria for America. This Media is full of Falsehood. This guy has said nothing but truth. No doubt, America has Money, is the most wealthy nation in the world. But the Money goes round the Elite, The Corporations. Being black is a sin here.. I live in Texas so I know what I am saying. The Treasures in America is in a Glass Container, at the sides of it, there is no entrance built for the ordinary man to get in. But on the top, lies the entrance. The only way to get in through the top, is only by the Anointing of God functioning in your life. If by personal wisdom, struggle, strength, hard work, then you will fail like others and be a part of statistic. Living in God's Grace and Presence at all time, is the only Guarantee for Success in America or any other Nation. Look inward, is more easier to Make Money in Nigeria to America. You make $3000usd a month, like $1800 - 2500 Can go for different bills sometimes. I will post survival tactics and ways to live above the struggle in America or any other nation in another Thread very this weekend by God's grace. @Ozo_Emeka, please I would like to get in touch with you, how is that possible? At least we can talk sometimes when you free. I can send you my num and email. Blessings |
