They say when it rains it pours.

So since 3rd of this month Ikeja Electric installed a 3 phase meter for me which I paid for oo. Ever since their initial 100 units was exhausted under 3 days I have not been able to buy credit and use it as it keeps complaining meter not yet activated. I sure madam has spent more than 5k calling their customer care ever since, yet no solution.

Na inside this wahala sun decide to carry him busy body shift base oo. It now casts a house shadow over my panels. When I did the design for panel placement I took time & did the study properly hence my surprise when I noticed shadow yesterday. This has caused the system not to float for over a week now. Even on days the inverter is not used it still doesn't float.

Well, presently there is no immediate plan to get around this conundrum oo. Question is just why we make our own lives deliberately difficult in this country. No be everything be government cos this is a private business that could have just come up with a very simple system of activation instead of this suffering for their customers. Heard every one who collected meters around the time I did have the same problem.
Perhaps you did the calculation at a time when the direction of sunlight had not tilted, to reduce this impact and since you don't rely have space to move things around, you may have to redo S and P array setup by making sure the shadowed panels are put on a separate string from the rest of the panels. Now this will be dependent on the type of CC you use, as you need to work within the acceptable Voc of the CC.

House....Please I need your help, I recently installed solar panels in addition to my previous setup 3.5kva/24v with 4 220ah batteries due to the poor phcn supply. But I discovered that the daily solar generation is low, roughly 3.7kw.
My batteries is yet to be fully charge since installation.
Installed: 6 270w sunpower panels
2 installed facing south due to space constraint, the remaining 4 facing east
60ah 12/24/48v pwm CC. Maximum current have seen on the controller is 23amps
Is their anything I can do to increase the daily solar yield. At least make my Batteries enter float by the end of a day
First wrong choice of CC, an mppt is better. What's the panel array configuration? I hope it's 2s3p and NOT 3s2p as that will significantly affect performance since 2 of the 6 panels has a different orientation.

Finally 270x6 is a little above 1.6kw, some 24v CC are limited to a max of between 1.4kw and 1.6kw (60A CC is actually 1.4kw) so you may be getting limitation based on that as well. In addition, you are doing 2x of your rated panel, I will say it's not too bad but you should achieve up to 3x if setup is right.

Please for those of you who have prepaid PHCN meters, does charging your batteries with the mains deplete your points significantly?
I mean does it consume much units or is the consumption negligible?
Bros consumption can't be negligible o, the higher the charge rate the more kWh depletion you will see on your meter but good thing is that price of electricity is not too expensive

Yeah. Nice. You had that factored in real good.

So that means each cell was 140ah? I always thought they were 280ah straight off.
Each cell is 280Ah and I have 16 of them

Boss na the bug of never ending system upgrades and tweaking I dey talk o.

You had not even told us your upgrade reasons (avoid MPP float bug and increased household loads) when I posted.

But I would still upgrade the MPP firmware to fix the premature float issue than opt for an external control solution as you did.
Yeah assuming the firmware upgrade is available but it's not available for GK the mk has it though. As to never ending system upgrades(well you referred to float in your previous post), I started small hence am enlarging my system gradually, am not sure you bought all your current system in one day but if you did our account balance status vary o. grin
I have reached my destination on storage and this is now an attempt to reach a destination on inverter.

Oga Chris of AWPS is using the native monitoring feature bundled with the inverter I believe. Still I like to roll my own.

If I may dangle a carrot, with MQTT and Modbus TCP it is usually possible to send control commands to the inverter.
Yeah saw some of his nicely done videos, the 8kw video he did off one of his clients site was one of the sources I used to decide on my choice of inverter.

NiyiOmoIyunade:
The bug has bitten deep.
Float bug is actually secondary, not really the main reason. See my other post.

For monitoring, if the inverter supports MQTT out of the box then you can easily use the Paho MQTT available in Python to bang up a script to subscribe the MQTT topics the inverter is publishing and post them to EmonCMS.

It is a relatively trivial thing to do for any half decent programmer esp. if you use the simple forms of subscribe and publish and don't use callbacks.
It's why I ask for experience of current users, mqtt is an option am considering, there seem to be another option to pull data via their app api...will see how it goes.

mank1234:
Why are you moving over to Deye from MPP? Any specific reason?
On the primary reason, I want to do 48v(and higher load capacity) as household demand has increased.

On a secondary reason, I considered going the latest 48v 8kw MPP as an option but the fact that they still left the float bug in there made it unattractive (though I already have a workaround to the float bug and that works fine, I prefer something out of box).
Satellite TV TechnologyRe: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 12:37pm On Dec 20, 2020
Looks like Deye hybrid inverter users will be getting a new member soon and my 24v GK MPP may be up for grabs to the highest bidder as well.

That said, any Deye user here that harvest data from the inverter for emoncms or mqtt should kindly quote me o, I need to prep and get training from Una. wink

Wow honestly the car still has the airfreshener that came with it from Canada. The abro I bought died in less than a week but that particular one still lingers though now fading.
There were 2 of it. The one on the AC vent was removed by the guys in Lagos but those sticks on the mirror are mad.
3 of it actually some black bags wrapped on the AC vent. Wonder where I can get such here.
Nice one, you still kept the number on the screen after that number of months. That's strange grin
I have bought 2 cars from him, not so happy with the first one but the full set of extra tyres compensated while the second one was a bummer.
That said, he needs to work on Comms which is definitely below average

Got a question guys & would want sincere answers.

Why is it that Solar charging is not usually as deeply suited for batteries like mains charging.

Maybe I'm not putting it well but make I break am down. Over the years I've used solar, started with LA & now lithium batteries, I found out batteries charged using solar alone run out faster than those charged with mains. These same batteries though have and fully reflect the battery SOC oo, it's not like something is amiss but they don't just tend to stay the length when being discharged.

Same narrative can be said between mains and gen charging. Anybody has a reason for why this is so?

Now let me blow your mind. Use solar charge your batteries all day and give it shikini 30mins - 1hr of mains to top it up in the night and see it last like say kilode. That is where my confusion lies.
If you charge a 100AH battery to 100% full through either solar or grid, I believe you will get same discharge capacity. However assuming max charge rate set is the same, it could take more time to charge via solar than it will for grid, 2 factors comes to mind based on my observations:

1. Mains charging current will remain constant at a relatively lower voltage, however solar starts it's charging at higher voltage and if your bulk/float settings is not appropriately set then charge rate may suffer

2. Non stable nature of solar or gen(for some) charge current is also a factor
