chris81964: How do I do that? When you use the highest speed it's equivalent to not saving power. In the case of thermocool inverter AC, h3 is the highest on my 1.5hp and consumes about 1kw of power, with the lowest speed it does about 500w |

BetaTechnicians: does that mean there'll be no need to connect to sonoffs unknown server? (Which is what most people try to achieve with tasmota.) You certainly will need to connect to Sonoff server, that's why internet is required. That said, unless your iot includes camera I don't see any difference with having an AliExpress or Alibaba account. Infact those are even more risky then a eWelink account. |

BetaTechnicians: Due to not having enough time for automation and my use of a "dumb" inverter that can't speak to software, To monitor/control freezer load. I used a timer for time of day but due to uncertainty of sun input too, I had to introduce a 24v dc contactor in series with a battery disconnect module that watches battery voltage. I also got a couple of sonoff basics too and the requirements to flash the tasmota but I've not been pushed to do so yet. If you've got internet connectivity and don't mind using it for your automation then you can for now use the sonoff basic send node-red without tasmota. |

I guess you're using a tasmotized switch; I saw your request for a Sonoff in your past post. I have figured it out thanks to @ceaser and no I am not using the flashed version, I found a way to automate the R2 without needing to flash tasmota. Draw back is that it will rely on internet. Anyone running node-red here that could help a JJC like me . I am trying to make an if statement to toggle a switch off/on based on a specific value from my mqtt. I tried using the switch mode but it didn't seem to be doing the trick. Any pointers or hint will be of help. For now i am only just using the injector to toggle the on and off manually

ceaser: Folks, is it really ideal or worthwhile to have an air conditioner installed in the kitchen? Does anyone here have that in their home?
Sorry it may be a little off topic, but I guess it's still remotely related. I have considered this before as well when the option of heat extractor was not looking promising. If your kitchen size and pocket size fits why not |

adrusa: My point is that batteries in parallel configuration are less susceptible to problem of mismatch than batteries in series, in my experience. I will not put batteries of varying age or capacity in series, but I regularly do that with parallel and I have never observed any penalty in battery longevity. So we are saying the same thing then, i hope the information is entirely helpful to the op that asked the question |

abbeymighty: Hello to the gurus in the house, I have 2.4kva mercury modified inverter, with 220ah tubular bat3 * 2 and 300watts solar panel *2 with 40a cc. My question is can use it to power small 120ltrs thermocool freezer during the day only. Your advise is highly appreciated. Assuming there are no other significant load sure, it will serve and you should still have some juice left in the battery by night |
Satellite TV Technology › Re: Solar Energy, A Complement To FTA by ojeysky(m): 10:11pm On Aug 20, 2020 |
adrusa: I believe the "capacity balance" is a myth. My personal observation is that batteries in parallel will charge and discharge according to their capacities. Because, current, like water will take the path of least resistance, batteries in parallel will charge and discharge according to their need based on internal resistance. This may be contrary to theoretical stipulations, but it is what I have observed over about a decade of interactions with batteries and solar. Of course batteries in series are a different beast. They need to be sufficiently similar in age, chemistry, capacity etc. You seem to disagree with your starting statement but then seem to agree with me in your conclusion (the bold) which is the capacity mismatch in series that I referred, did I miss something? For clarity, no issues with paralleling cells of same capacity (and you can even be good with different capacities in parallel) which is how my current LFP bank is configured (105x2)x 8s |

omotoda: Oga Ojesky, you don't get what the guy did oo.
He has a 24 volts inverter. He connect two 100ah ,12 volts battery in series to the inverter making ,100 ah 24volts.
He now connected a single 100ah 12 volt to one of the 12 volts of the series connection in.parallel.
It was strange to me too but he claims he has been using it line that for over 9 months.
I even spoke to his technician whobvlaims he had done several like that with no issues. I understood it quite well my brother, if you have a 100AH 24v setup and then add another 100AH 12v in parallel to one of the 12v in the 24v series set-up, what you basically have created is 12v 200AH connected in series with 12v 100AH. Yes it will work but it will kill the battery, especially the single 12v 100AH in the series connection as there is no longer capacity balance. Do you get it now Bro? |

omotoda: Attached connection was done on a friends 24v inverter. Is this even possible? Two 12voltscbatteriescin series and one of the series battery connected to another 12volt battery in parallel
I told him he is playing with fire but he claims he had been using it line that for months.
I could take a picture but I attached a sketch So if the battery is 100AH, then it means he has a 200AH 12v connected in series to a 100AH 12v. In that case, the fire he is playing is the one that will turn all his investment on the battery into a waste in near future. |

essegis: Meaning SOC is not a straight trajectory then, where a particular voltage has a representative percentage. Other factors including charging status and amount of load come into play.
Thanks for the explanation. State of charge(SOC) is determined by how much current left or has gone into the battery. You can roughly determine the state of charge of a battery from the no load voltage. |

essegis: This is the part I don't understand from you and Ojeysky anytime you post your emoncms pictures. In this post one picture is saying battery 50.7v but 74% while at another time 49.6v at 81%. I have always thought the SOC curve is a somewhat straight line or I maybe be wrong.
Can you please explain this? At 81% SOC battery was not charging and was on a load of almost 5kw hence the reduction in voltage. As expected, voltage drop is dependent on the amount of load, the depth would be more of it were lead acid At 71% SOC battery was charging hence the reason for higher voltage. |

I run a timer switch on my freezer so it goes off at 5pm but when there is public utility I manually adjust it to be permanently on, unfortunately this is not so optimal as if utility goes off or on days when sun is not smiling and my battery is depleting am forced to head to location of the freezer to switch it back to timer mode or off as the case may be. Sometimes this happens at wee hours. Thanks to @ceaser who triggered my curiosity about Sonoff, so I got the basic recently and now I can easily switch off from any location. Unfortunately I got the R2 version which does not have mqtt option (and I don't yet have the ingredients to flash the device with tasmota firmware) so for now am stuck with on and off from the app. Hopefully in near future it will be integrated with homeassistance when my 4CH R3 version arrives or I get to flash tasmota. Overall as it stands it's an improvement over my previous set-up. On that note, I have a timer switch for sale for anyone interested Edit: I just realized I was acknowledging the wrong handle. So credits to @adrusa

Javid4me: It might help if the inverter ACs are sized correctly with the rooms. The 1 HP is good for small rooms and works well. The benefit is not felt when installed in a large/larger room. Try the 1.5 HP and higher in larger rooms.
The LG versions work very well when sized correctly with the room. I use the 1.5 thermocool inverter AC, initially it was cooling well at L1(lowest speed) but of recent not as much. I am guessing ity probably has to do with the gas level. Overall I will still prefer an inverter AC over the conventional ones. I use both and the surge from conventional AC is just crazy. |
