Abia State Government, Tuesday, demolished a bungalow being used as a hideout by kidnappers.

The bungalow is located at Eziala Nsulu in Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area.

Commissioner of Police, Janet Agbade led the team accompanied by heavily armed personnel and some top government officials.

Addressing the press before the building was brought down by a bulldozer, Special Adviser to the Governor on Security, Capt. Awa Udensi said the demolition was in line with the Abia State law which prescribes that any building used as a hideout by kidnappers must be demolished.

He said a kidnap syndicate kept their victim in the building before she was rescued.
According to him, the victim, a woman in the company of her husband, had “attended a wedding ceremony at Obingwa a few days ago” when she was abducted by the syndicate.

He said the woman had gone to ease herself when the kidnappers who had mounted surveillance on her pounced on her and raced to the building in the nearby LGA.

The matter, according to him was promptly reported to the police who immediately swung into action.

He said the kidnappers later called in and demanded a ransom of N10 million.

But he said luck ran out on the hoodlums when they were eventually trailed to the hideout following a tip-off and the cooperation of a local vigilante.

He said one of the suspects escaped when police invaded the hideout while three others were apprehended

The victim was also rescued without any ransom, he added.

Capt. Udensi said that the suspects would be prosecuted, adding that capital punishment awaits kidnappers in the state.

He called on landlords to monitor the activities of the occupants of their houses.

Udensi particularly urged landlords who have an unoccupied house to keep a close tab on them to ensure criminals do not use them for their nefarious activities.

Youths of Ihitte/Uboma on Tuesday burnt down the police station in the community following the killing of two siblings by a policeman in the community.

ABN TV gathered that the brother and sister were killed at Isiweke by a yet-to-be-identified policeman.

The angry youths have also dumped the bodies of the victims at the police station, seeking justice.

As at the time of filing this report, all efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer in Imo state, Mr. Orlando proved abortive.

In order to forestall possible breakdown of law and order, security agencies were Monday deployed to the 10 public/grant-aided missions schools caught in hijab controversy in Ilorin, Kwara State capital.

The affected schools include C&S College Sabo Oke, ST Anthony College, Offa Road, ECWA School, Oja Iya, Surulere Baptist Secondary School, Bishop Smith Secondary School, Agba Dam, CAC Secondary School Asa Dam road, St. Barnabas Secondary School Sabo Oke, St. John School Maraba, St. Williams Secondary School Taiwo Isale, and St. James Secondary School Maraba.

The state government had in the wee hours of Monday ordered the indefinite closure of the schools which were billed to resume following the government’s pronouncement that students be allowed to practice their religion, by wearing hijab in Christian schools.

A visit by Vanguard to Bishop Smith’s school, St Anthony school, C&S school, among others showed armed guarded soldiers with pilot vehicles stationed, at the main entrance of the affected schools.

Apart from this, plain-cloth security men were also seen around the schools so as to forestall any unforeseen situation in the area.

Vanguard reliably gathered that some Christian leaders who mobilised students to the affected schools were dispersed by the security operatives, likewise some students who appeared in hijab.

Operatives of the Ilorin Zonal Office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday, March 8, 2021, arrested 37 internet fraud suspects, also known as ‘Yahoo-Yahoo Boys’ in Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State.


The arrest was sequel to series of intelligence reports on the alleged criminal activities of some internet fraudsters operating in the area. Officers of the Commission had carried out series of discreet surveillance on the nature of activities going on in the area which established that the location where the suspects were rounded up is a hideout for fraudsters.

Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) and the Eastern Security Network (ESN) have been warned to steer clear of Benue State.

This followed the recent threat by Kanu to send ESN members to protect Igbo people living in Benue.

Kanu identified Ado and Oju Local Government Areas as places that need the presence of ESN.

In his reaction, Ado Local Government admonished Kanu to stop dragging Benue into “his self-seeking campaign”.

The Chairman, James Oche, told reporters on Saturday that the territorial integrity of the state would never be a subject of Biafra agitation.

He cautioned proponents of Kanu’s “inordinate ideology” in Benue to desist or face the wrath of the law.

On the IPOB leader’s comment about the “abduction” of 3 people, Oche clarified that they were arrested in connection with the murder of an elderly Fulani man, Mohammed Isa.

“It was an act that threatened the security of the area and made the Deputy Governor summon a meeting that was held yesterday in Makurdi with all concerned stakeholders.

“Kanu reportedly issued statements charging Benue Governor to protect ‘IPOB communities’ or he would send Eastern Security Network operatives to do so. He should stop insulting the sensibilities of Benue people.”

The LG boss assured that Governor Samuel Ortom was doing his best in terms of security.

He advised the people to remain calm and support the governor’s commitment to the full implementation of the Anti Open Grazing Law.

Fresh ethnic tension is brewing in Anambra state as four Fulani herdsmen were reportedly shot dead in an attack on a settlement in Ogborji, Orumba South local government area.
The incident which occurred on Saturday, March 6, amid the mounting farmers-herders crisis in the country also saw many cows stolen, Daily Trust reports. Speaking on the development, the chairman of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) Southeast zone, Alhaji Gidado Siddiki, said gunmen entered the camp and started shooting, leading to death.
Many cows were reportedly stolen while four herders were killed in an attack on Fulani settlement in Anambra.
According to him, many corpses were also taken away by the assailants in an attack that saw many cows also killed at the Mohammed Idris Herders’ Settlement.

Men of the Nigerian Police force, Anambra division on Sunday arrested scores of homosexuals in the area in Dunukofia Local Government Area of Anambra State.

It was gathered that, following a tip off, the police raided a hotel in the area where the homosexuals where celebrating a party.

A police source said, “The officers arrested an undisclosed number of them, mostly men of different age brackets.”

An indigene of the community who collaborated the police source said, “The homosexuals were holding a party at the facility when trouble ensued, leading to invitation of policemen from Ukpo Police Division.

“The suspects attempted fleeing from all directions in the hotel when policemen arrived, leading to destruction of ceilings and other items in the facility.

“The suspects were taken to the Police Anti-cult Office in Ukpo for investigations.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Haruna Mohammed, said the report of the incident had not been brought to his knowledge.
