the tuition fees. Successful candidates will usually be expected to
undertake some teaching support activity in their second and third
years, by agreement with the School concerned.
Candidates may apply for a research studentship in any of the
following areas:
School of Informatics: Computer Science; Information Science;

Studentship Optimisation in reservoir simulation and oilfield operations
Computing Laboratory

Oxford University Computing Laboratory (OUCL) in conjunction
with Schlumberger has received an EPSRC CASE award to fund a D.Phil
studentship for research into optimisation problems arising from the
oil industry. In particular, oil recovery from geological formations
leads to a variety of very challenging, large-scale optimisation
problems. Of increasing interest is the question of optimisation in
the presence of uncertainty. The function to be optimised is
frequently very expensive to compute, and approaches using
less-expensive surrogates are to be preferred. The proposed research
will concentrate on the development and analysis of robust
optimisation techniques for such cases, and on their application to
problems of interest to Schlumberger. The project will be
co-directed by Professor Nick Gould from the Numerical Analysis Group
at OUCL and Dr. Chris Farmer from Schlumberger. Interactions with
other members from both partners are to be expected and encouraged.
The
student will spend time both in Oxford and at the Schlumberger
Abingdon Technology Centre. The research techniques will include
numerical experimentation to try to identify characteristic
correlation structures that might then determine the best
algorithm(s), and theoretical convergence investigations, using
methods from numerical and functional analysis. Training will be
provided both in relevant numerical techniques and on modelling
techniques relating to the oil industry.
It is hoped that the student will spend enough time with
Schlumberger to investigate optimisation in at least two problem
areas; optimisation involving flow through porous media and
optimisation of surface pipe networks with pumps and compressors. The
student will be supported by Schlumberger software developers in this
ambitious project and will be expected to focus on the research
questions rather than on software production. Nevertheless, the
student will be encouraged to develop software.
The studentship is fully funded (at EU fees level - overseas
candidates will need supplementary funding) for three years from
October 2007. Further information on the Numerical Analysis Group and
OUCL can
be obtained from http://web.comlab.ox.ac.uk/oucl/
Selection Criteria
Candidates must satisfy the usual requirements:

http://web.comlab.ox.ac.uk/oucl/prospective/dphil/dphil-criteria.pdf
for doing a doctorate at Oxford. Candidates must have (or be
expecting to receive) a good degree in mathematics or a
closely-related subject. In addition good programming skills are
desirable.
How to Apply: The deadline for submission is 9th March, 2007. To
apply you need to download the University's application form from
http://www.admin.ox.ac.uk/postgraduate/apply/forms/. You will need to
submit references, transcript and research proposal with your
application.
PLEASE SUBMIT YOUR APPLICATION TO:
Mrs Julie Sheppard
Secretary for Graduate Studies
Oxford University Computing Laboratory
Wolfson Building
Parks Road
Oxford OX1 3QD
AND NOT TO THE ADDRESS ON THE APPLICATION FORM
If you have any questions about the applications procedure please

That is way too much, $160 for one nigerian per month to have full internet Acess. I guess there isn't too much competition yet or the people are investing way too much in the hosting process.

Question for naijafan, is this connection LAN or Dial up? do you have any idea?

NUZI:

Thanks Oke. Can you update on how to register as Shell contractor?

i have not affiliation with most of the jobs i post here. They are found from various resources on the internet. I am only doing this for free to create a bridge b/w Nigerian Job seekers and the employers. Though its all for free, its part of my Quality and Business experiment in the JOb market for the 21st century. The feedback from these postings, the party sites linking them and the corporate nigerian offices will help me launch a mega job site for nigeria and hopefully extend the rest of africa by 2010. It will also help Nigeria meet its poverty needs according to the United Nations Set for the country by 2010.

I am a strong beliver in doing something positive to help others. If everyone of us can think positivley like this, our country will be great again just like the days of Nnamdi Azikiwe, the days when one kobo can buy me grand nuts from my local store. This dream of restoration is possible and it most of the changes will depend on the individual contribution of us all to make nigeria great!

Yah,it seems alot but i can earn more ansd as well add value to myself doing something else.Although at times its not all about the money, its about growth, acquiring knowledge and fullfillment.
My friend listen, if you want to go abroad to work and improve that’s a good thing but here are few things to consider:

- The more you make, the more you spend (Its almost very difficult to save)
- Get ready to be in debt for the rest of your life (You must get a credit card)
- The radiology equipment abroad maybe more challenging than the ones your are used to.
- They will not be willing to train you on the tools; you are expected to know them prior to employment.
- You may be required to get medical Certification to work as a radiologist.
- These certification cost quiet high just like in Pham, surgery and more.
- There are corporate world working culture that you can only understand by working there
- Get ready to face working racial discrimination
Family / Re: Like Will Smith, Would You Consider an Open Marriage? by Okeamu1(m): 6:05am On Jan 17, 2007
I will consider open relationship if my wife is ok with it. I have the potential to be sleeping with about 10 women currently, but i can just narrow it down to about 2 girls plus my wife. One thing i wont do is sleep with them when my wife is with me. Only when my wife travels to parents or go on vacation, I will sleep with my side woman.

Again all of these depends on her. If she says no to open marriage. I will bury my rod in her hump for the rest of my life.

Jobs/Vacancies / Keys To Getting Jobs Courtesy Of Arthur Ejiofor by Okeamu1(m): 10:39pm On Jan 16, 2007
Dear Forunmites,

It has become clear to me on why many Nigeria graduates are unemployable.

Feelers coming from the Consultants handling the above Job
openings show that less than 2% of over 250 applications so far
received payed attention to details as advertised.

Alot of people were just forwarding CVs without covering note and
so many others were responding without salary expectations.

Covering note enables the person shortlisting you to know you
better.It is like an application.

If an advertiser says you should write not more than 500 words, you
are atleast expected to get to between 350-400 words describing your
abilities and every other reason why you should get the job.

There would be no need forwarding only your CV or hurrying with
your application letter, when you are specifically required to send in
a covering note. Please take every openings seriously.

Most people that forwarded only their Resumes were not being
considered atall.
This does not apply to this Advert but to any other
advertisement.Pay attention to details and write good English.
