To be sure your catalyst is blocked a trick to do is first scan your car to read codes,after that rev your car while in neutral to go above 4000rpm, if it does go beyond 4000rpm mostly likely your catalysts isn't blocked, if it doesn't then mostly your catalyst is blocked.

Just take your car to painter to shine the head lamps.They would use sand paper to smoothing the hear lamps and then spray paint it . Doing this you would thank me later.

Auto gurus in the house please help me out with this, i checked wify car this morning because its been some days i drove it last only to discover that the dip stick is not showing oil traces when i dip it inside the engine, i tried it like 2 more times i went to start the engine so that i can check on the dash board for any strange sign, i bent down to look for any leakages no traces,but couldn't get any only the top iol sign that briefly showed and dissappeared. Though it's up to 3 months we did the last servicing and we are planning another one this weekend but im worried that no traces of oil on the dip stick until i start the car and checked again before i could see sign on one side of the stick..

Many things can cause increase in fuel consumption, but simple things to check are,
- spark plugs
- air filter(are they clogged up and dirty)
- Ignition coil, does it misfire
- Does your exhaust brings out black smoke
- No catalyst presence
- Are you fans running directly
- faulty O2 sensors.
- Faulty mass air flow sensor.
- Check the vacuum pipe/Lines connection

In all scan your vehicle to know what's wrong and post codes here for assistance.
If you don't have a scanner purchase Bluetooth scanner on online.
Even if your car is a V6 I think #1500 for 40mins( assuming you got the correct calculation right) I think the fuel consumption is on a high side.

Just check and revert back.

My Honda Civic is Consuming Fuel Excessively!!!

Hello guys, please my 4 cylinder, 1.8 engine Honda Civic, 2009 model, is consuming fuel excessively, on a full tank, I'm getting about 15/16 miles per gallon on city and few highway driving, instead of 29/30 as expected.
I get only 200 miles instead of the standard 383 miles on a full tank, which is appalling.

A full tank of 8k will be exhausted after about 3 to 4 trips to and from mainland-island (ikeja-VI), and this is not economical for me at all.
At times, I question my decision on buying the car as I understood that it and Toyota corolla had the best fuel consumption, based on popular opinion, before I purchased it.

I bought the car as Tokunbo with a mileage of over 100k, also, there was no catalyst in it (the pot was empty), so I purchased and fixed a new catalyst for N40,000, this increased the mileage from 200 miles to just 215 miles on a full tank, which is very infinitesimal.

In addition the Check engine light has refused to clear even with the new catalyst replacement, it has been throwing up error code P0420 “Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank 1).

My mechanic is now suggesting a fuel system overhaul, he suggested checking and/or replacement of the fuel pump, air filter, spark plugs, fuel injector and other accessories, which does not go well with me after buying and fixing a new catalyst for 40k.

Please what can be the probable cause of this anomaly auto experts?
I will greatly appreciate your contributions.

For the p420 code struggle with same on my Toyota vehicle... Ur since u just fixed a CAT am guessing they also fixed the O2 sensor that's there too.

I arrived u check the exhaust pipe the whole of it physically, even the tiniest of hole there like a needle punture can throw up a p0420 code.

For the fuel consumption check your fuel trims, you would need a scanner for that. Incase u do have one. Go watch youtube videos on the base line for that. Both long and short term fuel trims.
And also our fuel in this country is not that good so don't get your hopes up concerning fuel saving like that.

Thank you all, it's a very simple fault but technical, the fault was later detected around the brain box, some cables got melted...

Nice detection of the fault am sure it has been resolved... But any ideas on how the cables got melted.

I want to commend Moses also known as mosbus here on Nairaland for fixing my ac issues. I had taken the car to other technicians and they told me my compressor was bad blah blah blah. But when I contacted Mosbus he told me to bring the car to his workshop at isolo in Lagos and he fixed my ac issues without touching my compressor. It turns out my compressor is in tip top shape .
