ABUJA, FCT MAY 29, 2025 PRESS STATEMENT *MIDTERM ANNIVERSARY - APC LAUDS PRESIDENT TINUBU’S ACCOMPLISHMENTS* At the All Progressives Congress (APC), when we say that President Bola Tinubu is the President of Progress and has set Nigeria on a road less travelled, we do not mean that this journey, of inter-generational significance, is without delays or bumps along the way. It does not mean that our travel plan and road map is set on an immutable course. It does not even mean that the vehicle in which we are traveling is set on cruise control. It means that our vehicle is set on a certain and determined course of travel - on a road that puts distance between where we are coming from and where we going as a country, and as a people. It is a road filled with renewed hope of infinite possibilities. A road that leads to our long desired destination, a place of more peace, more safety and security and a place of improved and enduring prosperity. But more importantly, we make bold to say that our vehicle of state, under the able, capable, safe and steady hands of our Executive Driver, Leader, and President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, is on the move. Unstoppably and irreversibly - milestone after milestone - on a steady course on the road to our long desired destination - a place of peace, security and enduring prosperity. Our Leader, Mr President, is not the first President of our dear country. But he is the first to break with what had become a stagnating culture of presidential inertia - “kick the can down the road for the next President” - style of leadership and governance. Crippling and vexing national challenges across all sectors of our national life have come under his laser focus, clear prescription and curative treatment. In the face of daunting generational challenges, this President demonstrated political will never before recorded in our contemporary political history. And like a confident surgeon, he has enacted and continues to enact policy reforms skillfully designed to give our country not just a chance of urgent resuscitation but a real shot at rejuvenating wellness. Make no mistake, our great Party and Leader remain conscious of the inevitable and transient elevated difficulties that flagship policy reforms have imposed on our dear compatriots. In all, the best interest and wellbeing of this and future generations remain at the core of President Tinubu’s thinking and top priority. It is against this backdrop that we commend President Tinubu for his bold and purposeful leadership on the occasion of the mid-term anniversary of the administration. Undaunted by the hydra-headed challenges that bedeviled our nation, President Tinubu initiated far reaching reforms - ending fuel subsidy and harmonizing multiple exchange rates - meant to tackle deep structural distortions in the economy that had worsened over decades of token gestures by previous administrations. Despite the transient elevated cost of living impacts of the policies, experts and critics agree that the reforms were inevitable and crucial to stabilizing and positioning the economy for steady and sustainable growth. At midterm, the pall of gloom over our nation has lifted, replaced by a dawn of rebounding optimism and progress. Signs and indications have never been clearer, in our recent history, of a resurgent economy heralding strong prospects of a vibrant and prosperous future for our country. The fuel subsidy and foreign exchange reforms were followed by other important interventions, including the clearing of the burdensome backlog of foreign exchange and Central Bank of Nigeria's (CBN's) Means and Ways debts; crashing the debt servicing ratio from about 98 percent to about 68 percent; overhauling the taxation system; allocating more resources to sub-national governments and granting financial autonomy to local government areas, and other novel initiatives weaved together to strengthen the fundamentals of the economy. The administration’s relentless war against oil theft has helped boost oil production now standing upwards of 1.8mbpd, and surpassing the Organisation of Petroluem Exporting Countries (OPEC's) quota, for the first time in recent history. Massive reforms and investments in oil and gas sectors totaling over $8 billion, improved the ease-of-doing-business in the country, revitalized stock market for enhanced profitability, and attracted foreign direct investments (FDIs) in excess of $50 billion. Not surprisingly, the nation has posted trade surpluses for consecutive quarters since 2023. The historic Gross Domestic Product (GDP) growth of 3.38 percent in Q4 of 2024 has been lauded by both the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the African Development Bank (AfDB) as incontrovertible index of a rebounding economy. In its determination to enhance peace and security across the country, the administration has left no stone unturned in its renewed fight against terrorism and banditry. Thankfully, the massive support for military welfare and funding of the Armed Forces have resulted in the neutralizing of over 13,500 terrorists and arrest of nearly 18,000. With many internally-displaced persons (IDP's) camps being shut down and displaced persons returning to their homelands, and farmers accesing their farms with attendant crash in food prices, Nigeria is, uraguably, safer than it was pre-2023. The President Tinunu-led timely upward review of workers' pay and approval of N70,000 minimum wage and corps members' allowance of N77,000; the introduction of Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), aside over 900,000 beneficiaries of Presidential Loan and Grant scheme, attest to its unwavering commitment to citizens' welfare. Infrastructurally, the administrarion's accomplishments remain awe-inspiring. Aside the fast-tracking of N1.5 trillion road concession projects under the Highway Development and Management Initiative (HDMI), the administration in executing such legacy projects as the 750-kilometer Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway; the 1,058-kilometer Sokoto-Badagry Superhighway; the 486-kilometer Calabar-Abuja Superhighway; the 421-kilometer Akwanga-Jos-Bauchi-Gombe Highway; the 375-kilometer Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Highway; the 107-kilometer Enugu-Onitsha Expressway; the Kano-Kaduna Standard Guage Rail Line, and numerous other audacious projects. In just two years of focused governance, over 270 road projects have been completed. In the critical health sector, the administration has equally left indelible footprints by approving 21 strategic policies with direct bearing on the health of Nigerians; disbursing over N80 billion to revatilize over 8,000 primary healthcare centres (PHCs) across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT); recruiting over 2,500 health workers and retraining of over 60,000; introducing zero tariffs, excise duties and VAT on imported pharmaceutical products; reducing maternal mortality through neonatal maternal reduction initiative (NMRI), including free Ceasarean Section (CS), and more. Besides the massive upgrade of infrastructure at airports nationwide, this administration secured the delisting of Nigeria from the Cape Town Convention aircraft leasing risk list, effectively allowing domestic airlines to access aircraft financing options through dry lease agreement. What is more, Nigeria's global compliance rating was adjusted from 49.5 percent to 70.5 percent under the watch of Mr. President. To enhance food security, the Tinubu-led administration has distributed fertilizers and other farm inputs to farmers nationwide; released 42,000MT of grains across the 36 states and the FCT; established Livestock Ministry; currently working on recapitalizing the Bank of Industry (BOI) and other initiatives aimed at making the agriculture sector more attractive and productive. Empirically, a lot more have been accomplished in the creative; solid minerals; power and energy; oil and gas sectors. Yet, this administration remains focused and determined to serve Nigerians better in the concluding half of its four-year tenure. We applaud our good people for their invaluable understanding and support so far, and crave their continued support for the second half of President Tinubu’s term of office to enable administration unpack the fullness of the Renewed Hope Agenda for the overall good of Nigerians. Signed: *Felix Morka, Esq.* National Publicity Secretary All Progressives Congress (APC)

Abbeytoy:I agree with you—it’s not about politics, but about delivering the dividends of democracy. Wike has done a remarkable job across the area councils, especially in Bwari. In Dutse, there had been no real infrastructural development for years. But Wike came in, cleared the old roads, and built new ones. Now, there are streetlights all the way down to Usman Dam. He’s making a real impact in Abuja. So if I’m to vote based on performance, my vote goes to Wike. |

The exact individual who first coined the word “Naija” from “Nigeria” is not definitively known, as the term evolved informally over time. However, “Naija” gained popularity in the late 1990s and early 2000s, especially among Nigerian youth and in pop culture, music, and entertainment. That said, some credit Nigerian artist Jide Taiwo and others in the Nigerian music and media space for helping to popularize the term, but there's no verified record showing that any one person officially invented it. Naija is seen as a form of linguistic reappropriation — a way for Nigerians to embrace a local, informal, and affectionate version of their national identity, often associated with youthfulness, pride, resilience, and creativity. It differs from "Nigeria," which is more formal and colonial in origin.

NUJ FCT, Nizamiye Hospital Partner For Free Medical Outreach, Praise FG’s Zero Drug Tariff Policy The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), FCT Council, is partnering with Nizamiye Hospital, a private medical facility, to organize free medical outreach in June and during the NUJ upcoming Press Week. This initiative aims to promote public health awareness and provide free healthcare services to journalists within the Federal Capital Territory. This is just as the medical facility commended the Federal government's recently launched zero tariff on pharmaceuticals, saying it would improve access to medicals. During a recent courtesy visit to Nizamiye Hospital in Abuja, the NUJ delegation, led by its Chairman, Comrade Grace Ike, discussed potential areas of collaboration, particularly in health advocacy and community service. The hospital, represented by its Deputy Chief Operating Officer, Mohammed Abubakar, expressed readiness to support the Press Week and series of medical outreaches for journalists “We welcome this kind of partnership,” Abubakar said. “All we need is a formal letter outlining the outreach plan, and we will proceed together.” Abubakar urged the media to highlight the quality healthcare options available locally to help reduce the increasing trend of medical tourism. He also shared the hospital’s successful outreach programmes, which have served thousands of Nigerians in Nasarawa, Katsina, Bauchi, Owerri among others “In Keffi, we treated about 2,500 patients over two days. In Katsina, around 2,250; in Bauchi, approximately 2,700; and in Owerri, about 1,700. Just last week, we attended to about 800 people, including those from neighboring areas who rushed to the venue. We initially planned to see between 1,500 and 2,000 patients. We also left remaining medications at the local facility for continued use,” he explained. Abubakar added, “Our outreach covers multiple specialties including cardiology, orthopedics, pediatrics, gynecology, ophthalmology, and dentistry.” According to him , the outreach programmes are part of their corporate social responsibility to assist the less privileged in the society as well as promote well being of people. He further commended the Federal Government for taking off import tariffs on pharmaceuticals, noting that this policy would significantly improve access to essential medicines. “It’s not all about business but also helping people. For instance we pay so much on electricity and keep our foreign doctors” he added He said medical tourism remains one area the media should tackle and create more awareness on treatments in Nigeria In her remarks, Comrade Grace Ike praised Nizamiye Hospital’s dedication to quality healthcare and its ongoing community support efforts. She reaffirmed the union’s commitment to raising awareness about local healthcare solutions and improving the welfare of its members through strategic partnerships. “We look forward to a stronger partnership beyond this medical outreach. For example, issues like supporting internally displaced persons (IDPs) in partnership with states are not well publicized. Our platform can help amplify such causes across the country, given that we represent all journalists in the FCT,” Ike said. She added, “We also have our own news platform and website, which can be used to further promote these initiatives. This collaboration is just the beginning of a broader partnership beyond the medical outreach.” Both parties confirmed their commitment to working together, with the medical outreach set to be a key highlight of the NUJ FCT Council’s Press Week. This collaboration represents a significant step forward in bridging media and medical advocacy in Nigeria.

Anthony Ada Abraham At a time when most startups are focused on monetisation from day one, 7thCare Technology has taken a different route. Instead of charging hospitals for software and hardware, the Nigerian-based startup installs everything from local servers to solar panels free of charge. In return, they enter into a revenue-sharing agreement with their hospital partners. The man behind the movement, Olalekan Ojuko, says the approach is about creating long-term value. “We’re not just here to sell you a product; we’re here to build something with you,” he explains. This commitment to co-growth has earned the company a loyal client base of hospitals that see 7thCare as more than just a vendor. Each hospital receives a full IT makeover, including a suite of digital tools to manage patient records, billing, inventory, and more. Customization is key: the software is tailored to each institution’s unique workflows, and ongoing tech support is baked into the partnership. This infrastructure-first approach is particularly valuable in under-resourced areas where hospitals may lack the budget or expertise to modernize on their own. By removing the initial cost barrier, 7thCare Technology empowers these institutions to leapfrog into the digital age. It’s a model that challenges conventional business wisdom—and it’s working. As the startup continues to scale, it is proving that putting purpose before profit can still yield strong, sustainable returns. https://thesun.ng/digitization-without-borders-7thcare-technologys-global-vision/

Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed, Deputy Threatened To Slap Me In Shettima’s Presence — Foreign Minister Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar Yusuf Tuggar, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, has opened up about a long-standing strained relationship with Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed. In an interview with BBC Hausa published on Thursday, Tuggar recounted a heated incident during Vice President Kashim Shettima’s recent visit to the state. The altercation reportedly occurred on April 19 during a bus ride transporting dignitaries from Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa International Airport to the Emir of Bauchi’s palace. Among the passengers were Tuggar, Vice President Shettima, and other top officials. Following the trip, unconfirmed reports emerged claiming that Bauchi State Deputy Governor, Muhammad Auwal Jatau, slapped the minister after Tuggar allegedly made offensive remarks about Governor Mohammed. Jatau has since denied these allegations. Speaking to the BBC, Tuggar accused Governor Mohammed of initiating the confrontation by interrupting a conversation he was having with the vice president. The minister further alleged that the governor insulted his late father and threatened to slap him. “I didn’t see how he could beat or slap me, so I also stood up to stop him,” Tuggar said. “Then his deputy came from the back of the bus saying he too would slap me, but he couldn’t get close, especially with the vice president right there.” Political Tensions and Future Ambitions Tuggar, a known critic of the Mohammed-led administration, is reportedly eyeing a gubernatorial run in Bauchi State. When asked about his political aspirations, the minister neither confirmed nor denied, stating that he has always spoken out when necessary. He criticized the state’s handling of land allocation, particularly the transfer of farmland and grazing areas to companies under the guise of agricultural investment. “Farmers and herders are losing their lands to companies that later seek loans in the name of development,” Tuggar said. “If these deals were truly beneficial, why hasn’t Bauchi outperformed other states in grain or cattle production? Instead, the situation keeps deteriorating.” Deputy Governor Jatau is also rumored to be interested in running for governor in 2027. Both he and Tuggar hail from Bauchi North — a region yet to produce a state governor since the return to democratic rule in 1999. https://www.facebook.com/Comrstokore/videos/2626356007703270/?mibextid=Nif5oz

The Many Faces of Social Media: Why Your Posts Matter BY ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM Social media is a space where people share their thoughts, personal experiences, and trending topics, especially now, when data costs have skyrocketed, making every post a deliberate effort. Many creators aren’t just posting for monetisation; they do it to inform, entertain, or simply connect and sometimes to.release stress. The Different Types of Social Media Users: 1.The Silent Readers:They consume content but never engage. (Monitoring Spirits)👻🤮 2.The Critics–:They scan posts just to find flaws and react. 🙄 3.The Quick Judges:They don’t read thoroughly but form instant opinions. 😔⚔️ 4.The Comment Section Lurkers: They skip the post and head straight to the reactions for entertainment. 😂🏃 These are the kinds of people you’ll find online. But here’s the thing: many content creators aren’t posting for profit, they’re doing it for fun, passion, or simply to keep others informed. Whenever I go silent on social media, friends who follow me often reach out via calls or DMs to check if I’m okay. That’s how much your content affects people...even when you don’t realise it. I still remember an Italian artist on LinkedIn messaged me, saying he’d been following my entertainment posts and wanted me to write a piece on him. That recognition felt amazing. There’s also a talented reggae artiste I met on Facebook who now checks on me whenever I’m inactive. He's now a family friend. These connections remind me that social media is more than just a platform, it’s a community. I've had the opportunity to meet lots of international and local personalities who we had interviews, published on LEADERSHIP Newspaper and many other platforms. Whether you post daily or just scroll, social media is a place to unwind, share, and stay informed. If you’re making money from it, great! But even if you’re not, keep expressing yourself, you never know who you’re inspiring, informing , educating or are being motivated with your words. So post, engage, or simply observe, but never underestimate the power of your presence online. Someone out there needs what you share. Okrote4real ©️ https://www.facebook.com/share/p/12GuCwrj31q/

RealityKings1:Low blood sugar, also known as hypoglycemia, can be caused by several factors. Here are some common causes: 1. Diabetes medication – People with diabetes who take insulin or certain oral medications can experience low blood sugar if they: Take too much medication Skip or delay meals Exercise more than usual without adjusting food or medication 2. Fasting or skipping meals – Going long periods without eating can cause blood sugar levels to drop, especially in people with sensitive blood sugar regulation. 3. Excessive alcohol consumption – Drinking alcohol without eating can block the liver from releasing stored glucose into the bloodstream. 4. Certain medical conditions – Conditions like kidney disease, liver disease, hormonal deficiencies (like adrenal or pituitary gland disorders), or insulin-producing tumors (insulinomas) can cause low blood sugar. 5. Reactive hypoglycemia – This occurs when blood sugar drops after eating, usually due to an exaggerated insulin response. It’s more common in people who’ve had gastric surgery or certain metabolic disorders. 6. Medications – Some non-diabetic medications (like quinine, salicylates, or beta-blockers) may also lower blood sugar in rare cases. |

BY DAVID HUNDEYIN I've just come out of a conversation with a contact who is engaged in the Sahel, and the one piece of advise I have for the multiple Burkinabés from media, academia and civil society who are currently being contacted by the usual suspects to lend their vocal and intellectual support to the artificial anti-Traoré bandwagon that Paris and DC are putting together is this: Remember that there is nothing special about you. The same way they're reaching out to you and acting as if they respect you and your work, is the same way they've reached out to many of us across the sub-region. I promise you are not special to them at all. You're just useful. For now. The respect and reverence they are treating you with is the same affected "respect" they have bamboozled us with for 500 years, because they know that nothing gets a black man's pussy wet like receiving "respect" and "honour" from his European overlords. They did the same thing in Nigeria between 2011 and 2015. Every squirrel, antelope, Aisha, Dipo, and Japheth who offered even the mildest criticism of Goodluck Jonathan was immediately carried aloft and paraded around as a champion of this and that by the oyibos. It didn't take them long to figure out that "Jonathan Must Go" was their ticket to what seemed like everlasting favours, treats, and funding from oyibo, and they all started unanimously pushing to oust the president that took Nigeria to #1 economy in Africa and 3rd fastest growing on the planet. Many of these people didn't even dislike Goodluck Jonathan - they just saw that pretending as if Nigeria was being ruled by Pol Pot was their ticket out of poverty and obscurity. Some of them built this career grift in 24 months all the way from Twitter into Chevening scholarships, IVLPs, Mandela Washington Fellowships, speaking appearances in Taiwan, Canadian passports, etc etc. But those were only the lucky few. The vast majority of this demographic got discarded like a used pure water bag immediately the oyibos got their desired regime change. Since they got their regime change, Nigeria has fallen off a cliff from #1 to #4 in Africa, losing over 60% of GDP in just 10 years. I will repeat that for emphasis. While other countries in Africa grew at 2-5% annually over the past 10 years, Nigeria SHRANK by over 60%, and you can now find Nigerians desperately searching for a better life in Burkina Faso, Algeria, Mali, Libya, Tunisia, Liberia, and even Niger which used to hold the title of "poorest country in the world." Most of the loudmouths who helped make this a reality have fallen back into obscurity and poverty. Many of them are in their 40s and 50s now, and they're still busy chasing gigs and hunting for $1000 here, $2,500 there. A few of them did become puppet unicorns, but the vast majority are back to being absolutely nobody 10 years after they allowed foreign attention and dollars to override their natural caution and stampede them into the 2nd worst ever national mistake in Nigeria's history after the completely unnecessary civil war. Many of them walk around in a constant state of confusion now, unable to understand why their lives are much worse nowadays, and the oyibos who seemingly cared so much about whatever they had to say between 2011 and 2015 are no longer answering the phone or replying messages. If you allow these same oyibos to inflate your egos and use it to push your mouths into parroting their narrative for their own geopolitical goals, the exact same thing will happen to you. Before you allow the thirst for white people's validation and money to shape your responses to the questions they are currently deluding you with, just ask yourself this one question: All those years when Burkina Faso was the deadest country on the planet and Blaise Campaore's regime was shooting Burkinabés dead in the street, where were all these bleeding heart white people? Why didn't they care then? Why do they care about Ibrahim Traoré now? What is this REALLY about? 💡 https://x.com/DavidHundeyin/status/1921216363017687460?t=aDwI_gQ2lFocIxg2fcP-QQ&s=19

Confusion Rocks APC Secretariat as Ganduje, Minister Clash Over Kwankwaso’s Return There was confusion at the secretariat of the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Tuesday as the national chairman of the party, Abdullahi Ganduje and the Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata clashed over the purported planned defection of a former Governor of Kano State, Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso to the APC. While the Minister said Kwankwaso, a former Minister of Defence is no longer attractive in Kano State and is on the way to political extinction, Ganduje said the APC may not reject him because “a friend in need is a friend indeed.” Ata in an interview with journalists after a meeting with Ganduje at the Secretariat of the APC in Abuja, said it was due to his present political predicament that Kwankwaso was struggling to join APC, saying his ‘Kwankwasiya Movement’ was dying in Kano... Jos Prison Inmates Decry Harsh Living Conditions: 'We're Treated Like Animals' Inmates at the Jos Custodial Centre in Plateau State have raised alarming concerns about life inside the facility, painting a grim picture of suffering, deprivation, and alleged abuse by prison authorities. According to sources within the prison, detainees are subjected to inhumane treatment, poor nutrition, and a near-total absence of medical care. “There is no good medical care. Since November 28, 2021, we have been treated like slaves,” one source revealed, describing years of neglect. Reports indicate that prisoners are fed poorly cooked meals, often consisting only of watery beans without meat or fish. Images obtained by SaharaReporters depict meagre, nutritionally deficient portions served daily. https://youtube.com/shorts/c7XKmirwts4?feature=shared Beyond the substandard meals, sources allege systemic abuse, including a lack of clean water, medical attention, and basic rights. “People are dying in Jos Custodial Centre. There is no food, no water, no rights, and no privileges,” one inmate disclosed. A prison official known as “Abude” has also been accused of exerting unchecked control over inmate affairs. “It’s like a family prison now,” a source claimed. “Whatever Abude says, that is what the Deputy Controller of Corrections does.” Allegations of ethnic favoritism within the prison’s administration further highlight deep-rooted issues in the facility’s leadership. Inmate Protest Over Food Cuts in 2024 The deteriorating conditions are not new. On March 1, 2024, inmates staged a protest over proposed food ration cuts. The authorities had planned to reduce rice servings from four times a week to two, replacing them with cheaper alternatives like garri. The decision, reportedly due to rising food costs, triggered unrest during a morning briefing. When inmates refused to return to their cells and began throwing stones, prison staff responded with tear gas and gunfire into the air. Officials later confirmed that no inmates were injured, though some officers sustained minor injuries. At the time, the facility housed 1,064 inmates, including those awaiting trial and individuals on death row. Calls for Reform Amid Denials Despite growing evidence of mistreatment, the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has denied the allegations. Spokesperson Umar Abubakar dismissed the claims, citing a recent 50% increase in the daily food allowance—from N750 to N1,125—and support from NGOs. “The food is much and even stored in a place where only the leader of the inmates has the key. None of our staff has access to that,” Abubakar stated, insisting the complaints were unfounded. Nevertheless, the mounting testimonies from inmates and evidence from within the prison point to a system in urgent need of reform. Human rights advocates continue to call for independent oversight and accountability across Nigeria’s correctional centres.

You think Alake is a joke to you? Not every minister have that level. And not all governors could meet the president easily especially those against their policies. Remember Benue state and Rivers state during Buhari. JibrinAm: |
Katsina Visit: Alake Gets Governor Lawal’s $5m to broker meeting with President Tinubu, Issue Mining Licenses New information suggests that Zamfara Governor Dauda Lawal gave Mining Minister Dele Alake $5 million. This payment was allegedly for arranging a meeting between the governor and President Bola Tinubu during the president’s visit to Katsina. The President is on a two-day visit to Katsina, during which he will assess the security situation in the state, commission key projects, and attend an event organized by the Katsina state governor, Dikko Umar Radda. Alake allegedly received the funds from Governor Lawal to facilitate a meeting with President Tinubu for the Zamafara State Governor to discuss his defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressive Congress (APC), which recently received several high-profile defectors from other political parties. A credible source in the Government House, Gusau, revealed that “the $5 million payout also covers 15 mining licences that the Minister negotiated with His Excellency (Lawal) during his last visit to the northwest geo-political zone.” The source said both men have remained closely in touch and that Alake has repeatedly acted to convince Governor Lawal that he can be trusted. He held a press conference in March this year to defend the lifting of the ban on mining in Zamfara state, claiming that this was because the security situation in the bandits-plagued state had improved. “We have developed a standard operating procedure for mining in Zamfara, given the unique challenges the state faced previously. This SOP serves as a code for anyone looking to explore or operate in the region,” Alake had stated during the press briefing, which the source now said was held as proof that the Minister will fulfil the deal to hand the 15 mining licences to Governor Lawal. Another source in the Presidency, who does not want to be named because he is not a designated spokesperson, disclosed that Alake has been frantically pressuring President Tinubu’s close aides to schedule Governor Lawal for a private meeting with the President in Katsina State. “He has been pressuring them that there is a need to sustain ‘Hurricane Tinubu’ and that he has the Zamfara State Governor on board to cross over to the APC, but that it was important for Governor Dauda (Lawal) to use the Katsina visit as an opportunity to meet the President and finalise plans for his crossing. “What I don’t know is whether the Minister, Mr. Alake, can pull the meeting off, especially since it became strategically imperative that the gale of defections is better managed after the outcry from the civil society following the defections in Delta state,” he said. https://corruptionreporter.com/2025/05/02/katsina-visit-alake-gets-governor-lawals-5m-to-broker-meeting-with-president-tinubu-issue-mining-licenses/

NUJ FCT Chair Grace Ike Salutes Workers, Demands Press Freedom, Fair Conditions As Nigerians join the rest of the world to mark International Workers’ Day, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Comrade Grace Ike, has praised the hard work and dedication of workers, while also calling for greater press freedom and better working conditions for journalists. In her May Day message, Ike spoke about the struggles many workers — especially journalists — are facing due to the current economic situation. She echoed this year’s theme: "Reclaiming the Civic Space in the Midst of Economic Hardship." “Workers’ Day is not just a time to honour the value of work, but also a time to recommit ourselves to protecting the civic space — a space where every voice matters, where truth is defended, and where rights are respected,” she said. Ike highlighted the tough times Nigerian workers are going through, mentioning the rising cost of living, job insecurity, and limited opportunities. She warned that these challenges not only affect people’s livelihoods but also threaten the very freedoms that support democracy. “The media plays a vital role, now more than ever. Journalists must continue to speak out, hold leaders accountable, and protect the voices of the vulnerable,” she said. “We must defend press freedom, push back against censorship, and fight for fair treatment at work.” She also called on all sectors — from the government to private employers and civil society — to support workers by creating better working environments. “Let’s not allow these economic struggles to take away our rights or silence us,” she urged. “Instead, let our difficulties unite us in building a fairer Nigeria where every worker has a real chance to thrive.” As the first woman to lead the NUJ FCT Council, Grace Ike ended her message with a strong appeal for unity and action. “On this Workers’ Day, I ask everyone — from the government to employers — to stand by us. Let’s protect our freedoms, invest in our people, and turn workers’ sacrifices into real progress for our country.”
