In wanton disregard for the rule of law, and a valid and subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun state conducted what he purported to be a Local Government election in the state on Saturday, February 22, 2025. Recently, the otherwise peaceful Osun state has had its peace violently disrupted by Governor Adeleke’s and his Peoples Democratic Party’s stubborn refusal to respect the judgment of the Court of Appeal handed down on February 10, 2025, which effectively reinstated elected local government officials that were sacked by Governor Adeleke’s executive order pursuant to a judgment of a Federal High Court of November 25, 2022, which nullified the election that brought the local government officials into office. To be clear, in its judgement, the Court of Appeal allowed the appeal of the All Progressives Congress (APC) against the judgment of the Federal High Court and held that the suit was incompetent and was struck out, accordingly. In effect, the Court of Appeal nullified the judgment of the Federal High Court and reinstated the sacked local government officials until the expiration of their term of office in October 2025. That is the valid, subsisting and binding legal position on the matter. Following the sack of the local government officials in 2022, Governor Adeleke appointed illegal and unconstitutional “caretaker committees” to run the affairs of local government councils in the state in egregious violation of Section 7(1) of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, which stipulates that “the system of local government by democratically elected local government councils is under this Constitution guaranteed”. It must be emphasized the APC exercised utmost respect for the adverse decision of the Federal High Court and demonstrated mature restraint in the face of Governor Adeleke’s illegal and unconstitutional appointment of caretaker committees in the state while it diligently pursued its appeal against the decision of the Federal High Court that has now been nullified by the Court of Appeal. The APC did not resort to violence or self help in the matter but submitted to the rule of law and the authority of the courts. Why is it so difficult for Governor Adeleke, who swore an oath to uphold and defend the Constitution, to abide by a valid order of the Court of Appeal reinstating the sacked local government officials? Why is the Governor and his PDP vehement on taking matters into their own hands in disregard of a valid judgement of the Court of Appeal? Why is Governor Adeleke so desperate and determined to incite anarchy in Osun state with impunity? And why is the Governor so unaffected by the already tragic loss of lives of innocent citizens of the state in reckless breach of his duty to protect lives and property of all citizens in the state? The purported last Saturday’s fresh election conducted by Governor Adeleke and his PDP is nothing but a disgraceful sham, illegal, unconstitutional and violently contemptuous of the valid and subsisting judgment of the Court of Appeal, and of no effect whatsoever. The exercise was a reckless waste of public funds, and an irresponsible incitement to further violence in an already volatile atmosphere in the state. Governor Adeleke is under constitutional responsibility to respect and uphold the laws of our land, including giving effect to binding court judgements notwithstanding his personal or partisan political wishes or preferences. As he was quick to issue an executive order sacking the local government officials based on the Federal High Court judgment of 2022, Governor Adeleke is under clear constitutional obligation to similarly comply with the Court of Appeal judgment reinstating the same officials. The sensible and democratic remedy available to Governor Adeleke is to exercise his government’s right to appeal to the Supreme Court in the matter. Governor Adeleke bears a solemn duty to protect the lives and property of all citizens of Osun state irrespective of political difference. We urge Governor Adeleke to immediately end his illegal and anti-democratic push for fresh local government election, and abide by the valid judgment of the Court of Appeal in the matter. Breaking news reports of the purported swearing in of “newly elected” local government officials by Governor Adeleke constitutes needless political provocation and a clear renewed threat to the peace and safety of lives in the state. We enjoin local government workers in Osun state to go about their duties peacefully and in line with the authority of the judicially reinstated chairmen and councillors. Further, we call on the Police and other security agencies to remain vigilant and prevent further breakdown of law and order in the state as may arise from Governor Adeleke’s illegal and reckless actions. In keeping with the rule of law, it is our expectation that the Federal Government will make federal allocation for local governments available only to democratically elected and judicially certified local government officials in Osun state. The people of Osun state deserve to live in peace and security. Governor Adeleke must quit his political infantilism, and uphold peace constitutional order in the state. Signed: *Felix Morka, Esq.* National Publicity Secretary All Progressives Congress (APC)

BY MUBARAK UMAR Nigeria is on the cusp of a transformative digital revolution, and the recent partnership with Google could be the catalyst needed to position the country as a global leader in artificial intelligence (AI) and digital innovation. Last week, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu initiated a strategic partnership with Google CEO Sundar Pichai in Paris, France, focusing on five key areas: enhancing scalable cloud infrastructure, equipping the workforce with essential digital skills, fostering AI innovation and research, promoting cloud adoption, and elevating Nigeria’s standing in the global digital economy. This collaboration aligns with the President’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which prioritises economic diversification through industrialisation, digitisation, and innovation. With strategic oversight from the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, and implementation spearheaded by the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Nigeria is poised for a transformative leap into the AI and digital innovation. Google’s partnerships have played a crucial role in accelerating digital transformation in various countries. In India, the Google for India Digitisation Fund pledged $10 billion to support digital inclusion, AI research, and cloud expansion, leading to increased smartphone penetration and financial inclusion. Similarly, in Rwanda, Google collaborated with the government to provide digital skills training and AI-driven solutions for agriculture and healthcare. These success stories highlight the potential impact of Google’s partnership with Nigeria, positioning the country as a frontrunner in Africa’s AI and digital transformation journey. Also in South Africa, Google’s investment in cloud infrastructure and digital skills training has empowered businesses and individuals, contributing to the country’s growing tech ecosystem. Additionally, Google’s AI research initiatives in Kenya have focused on developing tools for African languages, demonstrating the potential for Nigeria to leverage similar collaborations to address local challenges. Moreover, Google's AI research initiatives in the United States and Europe have fostered an ecosystem where startups and tech enterprises thrive by utilizing cloud-based AI tools and Google’s AI research labs. Nigeria’s integration into this global digital economy could lead to the emergence of its own AI-powered startups, research hubs, and innovation clusters, further cementing its role in the global technology space. Nigeria’s vibrant startup ecosystem, with technology hubs across the country, is a fertile ground for innovation. The partnership with Google can provide resources, mentorship, and access to global markets through Google’s advanced AI capabilities and expertise. For example, a Large Language Model (LLM) for Nigerian languages could revolutionise education, healthcare, and communication by enabling access to information in local languages. Google’s previous collaborations, such as its work with researchers in Kenya to develop AI tools for African languages, demonstrate the potential for Nigeria to leverage similar partnerships to create impactful solutions. Furthermore, this collaboration will enhance AI research institutions, providing Nigerian researchers and innovators with access to Google’s extensive resources, facilitate the development of AI-driven applications that address national challenges such as healthcare, agriculture, and financial inclusion. AI-powered diagnostic tools can improve disease detection rates, smart agriculture solutions can boost food security, and AI-driven financial services can enhance economic accessibility for underserved populations. Cloud computing is the backbone of digital transformation, and this partnership seeks to enhance Nigeria’s cloud infrastructure to support government and private-sector initiatives. With the growing demand for data storage and computational power, Google’s investment in cloud services and data centers will provide a robust foundation for businesses, startups, and public institutions to thrive in a digitally-driven economy. Kashifu Inuwa, CCIE NITDA’s Director-General, has emphasised the importance of local data centers to ensure data security, compliance, and resilience in the face of global digital disruptions. The integration of off-grid, green energy-powered data centers will further contribute to sustainability while unlocking new economic opportunities. A strong cloud infrastructure will not only facilitate AI research and big data analytics but also drive digital government initiatives, including e-governance, smart city projects, and digital identity management. This, in turn, will improve service delivery, enhance national security, and promote transparency in governance. A skilled workforce is essential for harnessing the benefits of AI and digital technologies. Nigeria’s youthful population, with a median age of 18, represents a significant asset in this regard. However, there is an urgent need to equip this demographic with the digital skills required to thrive in the 21st-century economy. Google’s initiatives, such as the Google for Africa programme, have already trained millions of Africans in digital skills, and this partnership could expand such efforts in Nigeria. This partnership which aims to embed digital literacy into the education system—from primary schools to tertiary institutions, can create a talent pipeline capable of driving innovation and attracting global investments. Programmes focused on AI, machine learning, cloud computing, and data analytics can empower Nigerians to participate in the global digital economy. Cloud adoption is essential for businesses to remain competitive in the digital age. This partnership can empower Nigerian businesses, particularly small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), to streamline operations, reduce costs, and access global markets. Google’s experience in helping countries like Indonesia and Brazil adopt cloud solutions can serve as a model for Nigeria’s digital transformation. For instance, in Indonesia, Google’s cloud infrastructure has enabled businesses to scale rapidly, contributing to the country’s growing digital economy. Similarly, in Brazil, Google’s initiatives have helped SMEs adopt digital tools, driving innovation and economic growth. By replicating these successes, Nigeria can create an enabling environment for businesses to thrive in the digital era. Google’s global network and resources can help Nigerian startups access international markets, attract funding, and scale their operations. Initiatives like Google for Startups, which has supported entrepreneurs in countries like Egypt and South Africa, could be expanded to Nigeria, providing mentorship, funding, and technical support to local innovators. The partnership between Nigeria and Google represents a transformative step toward establishing the country as a global leader in AI, cloud computing, and digital innovation. Nigeria can bridge the digital divide, empower businesses, and create employment opportunities in the digital economy, and define Nigeria’s role in the Fourth Industrial Revolution. With the right policies, strategic oversight, and a commitment to digital excellence, Nigeria is set to reap immense benefits from this historic collaboration, paving the way for a more inclusive and technologically advanced future.

John David, CEO of Data Addict and US Army Veteran, Calls for Ethical Guidelines in Cybersecurity and Surveillance John David, the CEO of Data Addict and a US Army veteran, has called for stricter ethical guidelines in the use of advanced technologies for surveillance and cybersecurity enforcement. Speaking at a private industry roundtable, David stressed the importance of balancing security needs with individual rights to prevent misuse and abuse of power. He argued that surveillance and cybersecurity measures must respect privacy rights and be guided by transparent policies. “Governments should implement clear regulations on data collection and ensure legal oversight to avoid abuse,” David stated. He emphasized that cybersecurity tools should be used solely for protection, not to suppress free speech or target specific groups. David’s remarks come at a time when the rapid advancement of surveillance technologies raises concerns about ethical boundaries. His call for transparency and accountability reflects his commitment to safeguarding both security and individual freedoms. https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2025/02/17/john-david-public-awareness-key-to-reducing-cyberattacks-in-nigeria/

July 2009: Mohammed Yusuf is killed in police custody. His ragtag, poorly organised followers go on a localised rampage in the northeast. Nothing much happens and everyone moves on. November 2009: US request to site a permanent military base in Nigeria is rejected by Umaru Yar'adua. May 5, 2010: Yar'Adua dies under circumstances that still remain unexplained. August 26, 2011: UN building in Abuja is bombed, killing 21 and signaling the sudden change of Boko Haram into an organised, well-funded terror organisation in Nigeria. December 25, 2011: Bombs go off at packed churches during Christmas services in Abuja, Jos, Gadaka and Damaturu, killing dozens and becoming Nigeria's deadliest-ever terror attack. Boko Haram claims responsibility. 2013: Boko Haram goes, in the space of 1 year, from being a scattergun insurgency burning churches, to being a full-on military campaigns that kills both Christians and Muslims, and actually holds territory with their flag, openly taunting the Nigerian military with video messages. 2014: Over 200 girls are kidnapped from a school in Chibok. Borno, Yobe and Adamawa become a full-on warzone as the Nigerian army and airforce deploy fully. 2015: Regime change. 2016: Middle Belt suddenly comes under sustained, unprecedented attack from heavily armed and incredibly well-organised militia who somehow have everything from air support to anti-aircraft guns to chemical warfare capability. Nigerian military deploys there too. 2016: Charismatic cult leader Nnamdi Kanu suddenly emerges as a non-state actor with potential for violence. His 'Radio Biafra' - basically a small youtube channel - suddenly is somehow able to afford sophisticated technology and bribes for MTN engineers to install broadcast transmitters, so it can piggyback on MTN infrastructure and spread his separatist message wider. 2017: Southeast goes up in flames as hitherto peaceful pro-Biafra sentiment turns violent after Kanu is arrested. Nigerian military also deploys fully. 2021: Northwest comes under similar sustained terror activity to Middle Belt from an indeterminate source that is reduced to the euphemism "bandits." Locals report seeing terrorists with military equipment that even the Nigerian military does not have. Curiously, locations known for illegal gold and solid mineral mining generally do not come under attack by these "bandits." Nigerian military is also fully deployed in northwest, making it the 5th out of Nigeria's 6 regions to have active military deployment, after the Niger Delta, Southeast, Middle Belt and Northeast. Only the Southwest is left relatively stable. June 5, 2022: St. Francis Catholic Church in Owo, Ondo State, Southwestern Nigeria is attacked by ISWAP terrorists. Over 40 people die, signalling the start of terror operations and insurgency in Nigeria's last remaining stable region. 2023: Southwestern politician becomes president on 31% of official vote count, having run the most ethnically divisive campaign in Nigeria's history. Election is marred by large scale ethnic violence in the Southwest, which has never happened on that scale before. 2024: Nigeria's economy (with its headquarters in the Southwest) shrinks to just over a third of what it was in 2015. Galloping inflation following wholesale application of IMF recommendations creates widespread social dislocation. The seeds of destabilisation of the Southwest are close to germinating. 2025: Where we are right now. You either see all of these things as standalone events, or you see them as a timeline. Your choice depends on whether you only see what is happening, or you see what is actually going on. https://x.com/DavidHundeyin/status/1890371770550489361?t=bQzvS12WU7YA83E7dICNMg&s=19

Video: NDDC MD Position Sealed – Minister Abubakar Momoh Drops Explosive Statement, Silences Opponents In a dramatic and earth-shaking pronouncement, the Minister of Regional Development has obliterated speculations surrounding the leadership of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), delivering an uncompromising message that the position of the Managing Director (MD) remains occupied and unshaken. During the inauguration of the South East Development Board and the North West Development Board, the Minister fired back at critics demanding the dissolution of the NDDC board , warning them to abandon their fruitless agitation for a leadership change. He sternly reiterated that the NDDC board remains fully functional and does not require any alteration, urging detractors to allow the board to execute its mandate without unnecessary interference. Video: NDDC MD Position Sealed – Minister Abubakar Momoh Drops Explosive Statement, Silences Opponents https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAmaS-xU9x4?feature=shared The Minister dismantled the argument that the current MD had overstayed his welcome, revealing that his tenure had been officially renewed for another four years, effective from October 2023. With an air of finality, he declared that only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu holds the power to terminate any appointment, sending a clear message to those scheming for a leadership change to channel their demands directly to the Presidency instead of peddling false narratives. In a pointed remark, he compared the situation to the North East Development Commission (NEDC), where leadership renewal was executed seamlessly, highlighting that stability is a non-negotiable factor for achieving meaningful development. Taking his revelations even further, the Minister put an end to any speculation regarding the future leadership of the NDDC. He stressed unequivocally that once Bayelsa's tenure is complete, the MD position must rotate among the nine Niger Delta states as mandated by law. With a firm and resounding voice, he categorically ruled out Delta State from immediately producing the next MD, shutting down all premature power struggles and internal maneuverings. Lauding the tremendous strides achieved by the current board, the Minister condemned any attempts to derail the commission’s developmental agenda . He urged stakeholders to prioritize the prosperity of the Niger Delta over political squabbles, warning that infighting and confusion would only stifle progress. As the dust settles on his fiery remarks, one thing is clear—the Minister has drawn a bold line in the sand. The NDDC remains under its current leadership, and any opposition will have to reconsider their motives. He passionately appealed to these skeptics to let peace reign for the Niger Delta and, by extension, other developmental commissions. Watch the video and share your thoughts. https://bushradiogist.com/nddc-md-position-sealed-minister-abubakar-momoh-drops-explosive-statement-silences-opponentsvideo/

Police Parade Gunrunners, Army Impersonators, Kidnappers, Cultists, and Suspect Who Stole ₦2M Worth of Beef The Plateau State Police Command on Tuesday paraded twenty suspects arrested for various crimes, including army impersonation, internet fraud, gunrunning, kidnapping, cultism, and the theft of beef worth ₦2 million. While addressing journalists at the command headquarters in Jos, Commissioner of Police Emmanuel Adesina credited the arrests to public cooperation and intelligence gathering. "Our relentless crackdown on criminal activities has led to the successful apprehension of several suspects and the recovery of arms and ammunition," CP Adesina stated. Kidnapping Case Involving an 11-Year-Old Boy Among the ongoing investigations, the Commissioner highlighted a kidnapping case involving an 11-year-old boy, Tasiu Abdullahi. "On December 16, 2024, around 2 PM, we received a report from one Abdullahi Abubakar of Jos North LGA, stating that his son was missing. Later that day, the boy’s sister received a WhatsApp message from an unknown number, informing her that her brother was being held hostage. The kidnappers initially demanded ₦1.25 million as ransom but eventually settled for ₦150,000, which was deposited into an account provided by them. After receiving the ransom, they sent another message claiming they had released the boy to their neighbor, Haruna Adamu, alias 'Baban Amir,' who picked him up in a green Honda vehicle. However, when the victim’s family confronted Haruna Adamu, an angry mob intervened, nearly destroying his vehicle. Fortunately, our officers from the Nassarawa Gwong division swiftly intervened and arrested the suspect," Adesina explained. Raid on Suspected Criminal Hideout CP Adesina further disclosed that on January 24, 2025, at around 5:30 AM, the command acted on intelligence about suspected criminals hiding in an uncompleted building near the Golf Club in Jos. "Following my directive, the DPO Anglo-Jos led a raid on the location, leading to the arrest of two suspects: David Ishaku, 29, and Moses Bala, 25. Both were found inside the building with two motorcycles," he revealed. Nigerian Army Impersonators Apprehended The police also paraded suspects posing as Nigerian Army personnel. "On January 21, 2025, at about 1:30 PM, we received a report from one Ashom Agwom of Tina, who spotted a man, Israel Bitrus, 23, dressed in full Nigerian Army camouflage. His actions raised suspicion, prompting his arrest," Adesina stated. Armed Suspect Caught at Checkpoint In another operation, police officers intercepted an armed suspect during a routine checkpoint in Pankshin LGA. "Acting on credible intelligence, our officers set up a checkpoint in the Kuka area of Pankshin on January 24, 2025, at around 3:20 AM. During a stop-and-search, two young men approached on a motorcycle. One of them jumped off and fled into the bushes, but we successfully apprehended the other suspect, Terishima David, 28. Upon searching him, we recovered an AK-47 rifle with serial number NR3692 and an empty magazine," Adesina reported. IGP’s Order on Firearm Use by Plainclothes Officers The Commissioner also emphasized that the Plateau State Police Command has fully implemented the directive of the Inspector General of Police, Olukayede Egbetokun, which prohibits officers in plain clothes from carrying firearms. "Our officers are strictly adhering to this order, ensuring professionalism in law enforcement across the state," Adesina assured. The suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. https://kakaakireporters.com/police-parade-gunrunners-army-impersonators-kidnappers-cultists-and-suspect-who-stole-%e2%82%a62m-worth-of-beef/

BY FRED ITUA A pie in the sky is often used to describe an illusion—an enticing dream that, despite its allure, remains beyond reach. It represents aspirations that are detached from reality, fantasies that refuse to materialize no matter how fervently pursued. The ambition to govern Edo State is, in itself, a noble one. Every qualified individual has the right to aspire to public office. However, ambition must be matched with prudence, and political aspirations should be pursued with a sense of realism. When the electorate has spoken through the ballot, and the mandate has been decisively bestowed, the logical question becomes: at what point does one accept reality and move on? There is a well-known African proverb that says, if you do not know where you are going, at least remember where you are coming from. Since his defeat in the September 21, 2024, Edo State governorship election, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Asue Ighodalo, has remained locked in a desperate and seemingly futile attempt to upend the verdict of the people. His persistent legal maneuvers appear to be nothing more than an attempt to cling to a fading hope, seeking every possible avenue to overturn the legitimate mandate freely given to Senator Monday Okpebholo, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), whom many now hail as the Akpako-messiah. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Senator Okpebholo the winner of the election, having secured 291,667 votes, defeating Ighodalo, who garnered 247,655 votes. In a democracy, elections are won and lost at the polling units, and when the people have spoken, the expectation is that candidates, especially those who claim to be democrats, would respect the will of the electorate. Unwilling to accept the outcome, Ighodalo and the PDP swiftly took their grievances to the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal, challenging the results from 765 polling units out of the 4,519 polling units in the state. However, the tribunal’s proceedings have been anything but smooth, largely due to PDP’s apparent lack of a solid case. The tribunal, initially set up in Benin, was relocated to Abuja due to security concerns, but the change in venue did little to alter the PDP’s approach. Instead of diligently presenting its arguments, the party resorted to deliberate delay tactics, seemingly intent on dragging out the process rather than proving its claims. At the peak of these antics, PDP’s legal team, led by Adetunji Oyeyipo (SAN), sought adjournments on the flimsy excuse that their witnesses had experienced "travel disruptions." “My Lords, this is the reason we are unable to present them today. We urge your Lordships to give us another date. We undertake that on the next date, we will bring as many witnesses as may be convenient for the tribunal.” This statement, however, did not sit well with the tribunal’s chairman, Justice Wilfred Kpochi, who expressed clear displeasure over the PDP’s time-wasting tactics. The tribunal firmly ruled that the party should proceed with its case immediately, as it had been adequately informed beforehand. Even more telling is the fact that, despite initially planning to present a robust lineup of witnesses, the PDP abruptly closed its case on Monday, February 3, after calling only 19 witnesses—a sharp contrast to the aggressive posturing it had displayed earlier. At the same time, the party made unsubstantiated claims that the APC was intimidating its witnesses, yet it failed to present any credible evidence to support these allegations. These inconsistencies raise the question: was the PDP truly prepared for this legal battle, or was it simply engaging in a futile exercise meant to create unnecessary political tensions? Now that the PDP has closed its case against the APC and Governor Okpebholo, one can only hope that the party will allow INEC and the APC to present their defense without further obstruction. Rather than continuing on this path of endless litigation, it would be far more beneficial for Ighodalo and the PDP to reflect on the reasons for their defeat, realign their political strategies, and focus on constructive opposition—one that strengthens democracy rather than weakens it. Ultimately, elections are not won in courtrooms but at the polling booths, and the people of Edo State have spoken. It is time to respect their choice. BY ANTHONY ADA ABRAHAM Sungulani Maxwell Chikumbutso, a self-taught Zimbabwean inventor, recently showcased what he claims to be a groundbreaking energy technology before President Emmerson Mnangagwa. The demonstration featured an electric vehicle allegedly capable of running indefinitely without recharging, powered by Chikumbutso’s so-called “Microsonic energy device.” The showcased vehicle, reportedly a modified Chinese-manufactured car sourced from Alibaba, purportedly harnesses radio frequencies to generate electricity. According to Chikumbutso, this breakthrough technology can be applied to various modes of transport, including helicopters and motorbikes. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ss5g0_4BeDU?feature=shared Defying Physics? Chikumbutso’s claims have shifted over time. Initially, in 2013, he stated that his invention generated power “from air.” More recently, he has described it as a device that converts radio frequencies into usable energy—an assertion that directly challenges fundamental laws of physics, particularly the laws of thermodynamics. His technology has reportedly failed to secure a patent, with authorities rejecting it due to violations of natural physical laws and a lack of industrial applicability. However, instead of modifying or scientifically validating his invention, Chikumbutso says he has opted to treat it as a trade secret. A Story of Conspiracy and Resistance Adding to the intrigue, Chikumbutso has shared a dramatic backstory involving an alleged assassination attempt in Silicon Valley. He claims that he and a business partner were poisoned due to their revolutionary discovery, resulting in his partner’s death. This, he says, prompted his return to Zimbabwe at the personal invitation of President Mnangagwa. Despite the skepticism surrounding his claims, Chikumbutso continues to attract attention from government officials and investors intrigued by the promise of limitless energy. However, without independent verification or peer-reviewed evidence, the scientific community remains unconvinced. The Future of the “Infinite Energy” Device While the Zimbabwean government has not officially endorsed Chikumbutso’s invention, his demonstration before the president suggests interest at the highest levels. If proven viable, the technology could revolutionize energy production. However, until scientific scrutiny confirms its legitimacy, Chikumbutso’s “Microsonic energy device” remains a tantalizing enigma—one that defies physics and fuels both hope and controversy.

Insecurity: FG Opts For Drones To Distribute Drugs In North East Out of the about 1.7 billion people affected globally by Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs), Nigeria contributes about 50 percent to its burden in Africa and 25 percent globally, the National Coordinator of NTDs in the Federal Ministry of Health, Fatai Oyediran, has said. He also said the Federal Government is considering the use of drones for the distribution of drugs in the North East which had been gripped by banditry, kidnapping and other crimes as a measure to tackle the 21 NTDs in Nigeria. Oyediran stated these in his presentation by the Programme Manager, Snakebite Envenoming, NTDs Division in the Ministry of Health, Adebayo Peters at the 6th edition of the global celebration of the NTDs Day declared by the World Health Organisation (WHO) with a mandate to wipe it out in 2030. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MwggpB9SCrk?feature=shared With the theme, 'Unite, Act and Eliminate NTDs as a Catalyst for Global Health and Sustainable Development', the event brought together experts to strengthen the commitment to ending the communicable and non-communicable diseases. Oyediran said, "Over 100 million (two of every three Nigerians) are infected by or at risk of one or more NTDs. It is expected that with investment of ($18,785,902) for five years, Nigeria will achieve elimination of blinding trachoma, (100 percent); 22 States endemic for Onchocerciasis will no longer need treatment." The Technical Assistant to the Minister of Health and Social Welfare, SWAP Coordinating Office, Zaiyanatu Abubakar Umar, said ending the scourge of NTDs is a collective responsibility. She said, "The Collaborative Action Strategy (CAS) is meant to shift ways of working amongst global, regional, and country level partners on key actions, roles, and coordinated approaches at country level. It is designed to add practical but transformative value to Nigeria's existing health campaigns and health care efforts including dealing with Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD). "The strategy seeks to guide partners toward a future state where programs collaborate effectively with each other and with corresponding health services to maximize the impact of campaigns on health outcomes, and ultimately aims to catalyze stronger, more resilient country-led health systems in the long term." The Minister of State for Health, Dr Iziaq Salako, expressed optimism that the NTDs would be a thing of the past in Nigeria by 2030. “The 2021–2030 WHO NTDs Roadmap provides ambitious targets and innovative approaches. Nigeria remains committed to its implementation, focusing on accountability, multi-sectoral integration, and political commitment to ensure sustainability. The fight against NTDs is crucial to achieving Universal Health Coverage, Sustainable Development Goal Three and eradicating poverty", he said. The Country Director of Helen Keller International and Chair, Governmental Development Organisations (NGDOs), Aliyu Mohammed, reaffirmed his organization’s commitment to deepen its support in helping Nigeria eliminate leprosy and other NTDs by 2030 He said, "We have been partnering with the government to tackle these issues, and we are stretching our collaboration to ensure we eliminate all phases of leprosy and other NTDs as part of the broader fight against national poverty.” The UNICEF NTDs National Consultant, Hilary Adie highlighted the critical role of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) in combating diseases including NTDs. “Thank you to the Federal Ministry of Health and the Nigerian government for providing a Clean Nigeria Campaign office to ensure communities become open-defecation-free.” The Country Director CBM Global, Abdulazeez Musa, emphasized the need for sustainable funding, innovative solutions, and a commitment to equitable healthcare for all. “To act now means recognizing that time is of the essence. Delayed action leads to lost lives, diminished livelihoods, and prolonged suffering", Musa said The National President of IDEA Nigeria, Peter Iorkighir, however, regretted that even though leprosy was curable, thousands of Nigerians remain untreated due to unnecessary bureaucratic obstacles. He called for urgent measures to address the prolonged unavailability of life-saving Multi-Drug Therapy (MDT) medications in Nigeria, an act he described as a “human rights violation.” https://kakaakireporters.com/ntds-nigeria-battles-to-meet-2030-target-invests-19-million-to-fight-trachoma/

You made us victims of your rage and the war you have chosen never to let go - Tuface's brother, Charles Called out Annie Idibia In a heartfelt post shared on his Instagram in 2021, Charlybrave, the younger brother of legendary musician Tuface Idibia, poured out his emotions regarding his strained relationship with Annie Idibia. "I pray for composure as I write this, and I pray for clarity because there is so much to say." Addressing Annie directly, he expressed his disappointment, stating that despite always treating her with love and respect, she has continuously disrespected not only Tuface but also his family, friends, and staff. He cited numerous instances of public humiliation, including altercations at events and even domestic incidents. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rfYFFUSumeg?feature=shared Charlybrave accused Annie of creating unnecessary conflicts, locking out Tuface’s mother during a visit, and attacking his own wife shortly after they lost a child, all because she refused to partake in ongoing battles with "baby mamas" and supposed "enemies." He also questioned Annie’s frequent complaints about financial burdens, pointing out the presence of multiple house staff, a live-in mother, cousin, and brother—all tending to just two children—while painting himself as a villain for merely visiting occasionally. "Do you think my conversations with Inno are always about money? That’s all you think we share as brothers because I’m not a millionaire?" he asked, lamenting Annie’s lack of effort in maintaining a relationship with him despite his gestures on special occasions. Accusing Annie of portraying a false image of love and unity on social media, Charlybrave said she had already decided to make him an enemy, ignoring the efforts of the family to foster peace. He rejected the narrative that the Idibia family was trying to destroy her marriage, stating that they accepted her wholeheartedly but were met with "pre-installed hate." His biggest concern, however, was the increasing violence in her relationship with Tuface. He warned that if things escalated, the consequences could be dire, citing a hypothetical scenario where Annie might harm Tuface over a simple phone call regarding his children. "Have a re-think, Annie. You have made us victims of your rage and the war you refuse to let go, yet you are quick to play the victim. We can’t all agree with you all the time just because your husband is ‘King’ and you are the ‘Queen’ we must bow to." He concluded by wishing her peace, stating that he had done his best to mend the situation but could no longer endure the toxicity. "God knows I’ve tried. Bye."

Halima Babangida Honours Memory Of Late Mother Maryam With Launch of Foundation For Less Privileged The late wife of former Military president, Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida, came alive in Minna on Saturday 18th January, 2025 when her youngest daughter, Halima launched her NGO- the Halymah Ibrahim Babangida Foundation. The memory of Maryam Babangida was honoured at the event which attracted a huge crowd of widows, students and the less privileged who all came in the hope of benefitting from either empowerment programme, scholarship or entrepreneurship support. The Crowd came to the El-Amin University auditorium in Minna as early as 8am even though the event was billed to start by 10am. They included young widows, male and female students and pupils from different schools and communities in Niger State. The advertisement for the event had stated that 300 widows would receive start up capital for business and 500 students would be enrolled for bursary to support their university education. Some school principals were also invited on behalf of 4,000 indigent youths whose WAEC and JAMB fees had been paid by the foundation. The First Lady of Niger State, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago was the special guest of honour while the Emir of Minna, Dr Umar Faruk Bahago, was the Father of the day. The programme started by 10am with the hall filled with women and students who sat in the hope of becoming beneficiaries of Halima’s empathy. Zainab Umar, a 38-year- old widow told THE WHISTLER that her husband died and left her with three young children she could not afford to sponsor through school. “I’m hoping that Halima Foundation will help me so that i can start a business and use the money to train my children,” she said in anticipation. Also, Salim Mohammed,a student of Geography at the IBB University, Lapai, said “I have three other siblings who’re still in school while our father is retired,” adding that getting a bursary from the foundation would be life-changing for him. An elderly widow, Madam Abigael, who said she was informed about the event by a neighbour, also hoped to be among those to benefit from the foundation’s empowerment packages which included cash and other items. Apart from the special guest of honour who sent Hajia Hadiza Maikano to represent her, other VIPs present include Commissioner for Basic Education, Hajia Maimuna Mohammed; Dr Nurudeen Lemu, Mrs Ladi Mustapha and Chairman of Bosso Local Government Area, Hajiya Rakiya Ladidi Bawa. The elder brothers of the founder of the HIB Foundation, Mohammed and Aminu Babangida also came to support their sister. Mohammed, who is the Pro Chancelor of El-Amin University while giving a goodwill message, said the event represented the essence of their late mother who loved education and helping the poor. Mohammed called the Halima “the baby of the house” when their mother died 15 years ago, but said she is now the one carrying on Maryam Babangida’s legacy through the HIB Foundation. The First Lady of the state, Her Excellency, Hajiya Fatima Mohammed Bago, also commended Halima for her initiative. In a speech delivered on her behalf, she said the event reminded her about the “enduring legacy of one of Niger State's finest daughters. Dr. (Mrs.) Maryam Babangida was not just a mother to her children, she was a mother to the entire nation, a visionary who worked tirelessly to uplift rural women and families.” She said it was befitting that it is her daughter who is now “continuing her mother’s journey of compassion and empowerment,” adding that she had “chosen education as her platform, ensuring that young boys and girls, especially those with limited opportunities, can dream big and achieve even more.” The First Lady stated further that the foundation’s scholarship programme complements the initiatives of Governor Mohammed Umar Bago’s administration aimed at providing quality education and reducing barriers, particularly for the most vulnerable in the state. Dr Nurudeen Lemu commended the HIB Foundation and the founder for choosing not to be an onlooker, but an active participant in the service of humanity. He described her effort as similar to the attempt to stop the Titanic (ship in a film by James Cameron) from sinking. He said Halima could choose to do nothing to uplift others, but decided she would do something. In her speech, Halima said her late mother was the inspiration for the project and she decided to launch it to commemorate the 15th year of her passing. “I remember vividly how my mother would sit with rural women, teaching them to read, showing them that knowledge was their greatest asset,” she stated. “As we launch the Halimah Ibrahim Babangida Foundation on this 15th anniversary of her passing, we honour her legacy not just with words, but with decisive action.” She revealed that the foundation launched three groundbreaking initiatives to empower 300 widows and young entrepreneurs, fund WAEC and JAMB for 4000 students, and the establishment of a comprehensive bursary programme for 500 undergraduates. In her journey of compassion and passion for education, she acknowledged the complementary role of her childhood friend, Fatima Dangote. She said, “While my dear friend Fatima Dangote cannot be here physically today, our shared vision remains unshaken. We chose to launch here, where our own journey began, because we believe in the power of roots, in the strength of coming full circle, and in the importance of giving back to the soil that nurtured us. “The Halimah Ibrahim Babangida Foundation stands as a testament to what becomes possible when vision meets action. Our mission – 'Better Education, Better Youth, Better Nation' – is more than a slogan. It is our blueprint for national transformation, one young mind at a time. “Today, we don't just launch a foundation; we ignite a movement. Join us in this mission. Whether you're an educator, entrepreneur, or community leader – there's a role for you in this transformation. “Let history record that on this day, in this place where dreams once took root, we planted a forest of opportunity for thousands to follow.” After the speeches, the guests were invited one after the other to hand over cash and other empowerment items to widows. Some school principals were also handed lists and payment receipts for WAEC and JAMB for selected students numbering up to 4000. Some talented undergraduates also got scholarships

I had a shocking experience yesterday, January 3rd. At around 11:45 pm, I left my phone on the bed and stepped into the kitchen for less than 5 minutes. When I returned, I noticed my window was burgled, and my phone was gone! I immediately dialed my number, but it was switched off. To my surprise, the phone started ringing again around 6 am this morning, January 4th. The thief answered and demanded 30,000 naira in exchange for my phone. He instructed me to meet him at the State Low-Cost Roundabout. When we arrived, he got cold feet, thinking we were trying to trap him. Instead, he asked us to send the money to an OPay account. We took a risk and sent the money. After confirming the payment, the thief switched off the phone again. My friend cleverly added a zero to the OPay account number, converting it into a phone number. We called and spoke to a POS agent, who confirmed receiving the money. We asked him to stall the collector, and he revealed his location - around Gold and Base Roundabout. We rushed to the location and spotted the thief, who took off upon seeing us. We chased him, and just when we were about to give up, a group of footballers caught him. He was nearly beaten up to deathbefore we intervened and took him to the police station. That's a story for another time. Thankfully, I've recovered my phone, and I'm typing this with it. If not, I'd be searching for money to buy a new one! https://www.facebook.com/share/v/18KFYBFrnr/
