PoliticsWithout Electoral Reforms, Igbo Presidency Will Be Impossible – Ohanaeze by OLADD(op): 12:29pm On Aug 11, 2025
Ohanaeze Ndigbo, apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, has said that without comprehensive electoral reforms, the much-expected Igbo presidency would be impossible.

Ohanaeze said it is compelled by its unwavering commitment to the well-being and future of Ndigbo to address the prevailing political landscape and its potential ramifications for the people, particularly in the context of the forthcoming 2027 polls.

This is contained in a statement issued on Sunday by Ohanaeze’s factional Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and made available to DAILY POST in Abakaliki.

According to the statement, “The prevailing realities, unfortunately, necessitate an honest and unflinching assessment.

Our considered observation reveals that the current vulnerabilities within the electoral system, coupled with the existing political dynamics, present a significant impediment to any opposition candidate challenging the incumbent President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the 2027 elections, unless comprehensive electoral reforms are implemented.”

Part of the statement read: “It is with deep regret that we must acknowledge the uncomfortable truth: the integrity of the electoral process is demonstrably weakened. The systemic loopholes and potential for manipulation within the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) cannot be ignored.

“These weaknesses, if left unaddressed, create an environment ripe for exploitation by those seeking to maintain power, thereby jeopardizing the prospects of a fair and credible election.

“The implications of INEC’s proposed reliance on manual processing and the potential abandonment of the electronically transmitted results, as a substitute for electronic transmission of votes to the INEC portal, further amplify these concerns.

“Such a shift would disproportionately favour those with the means and motive to manipulate the process, ultimately disenfranchising a significant portion of the electorate and discouraging meaningful participation.

“Against this backdrop, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, acting in the best interests of Ndigbo, feels obliged to issue this poignant advisory: any Igbo individual considering a presidential bid in 2027 must, therefore, recognize the inherent limitations of the current environment.

“Engaging in a contest under these conditions, without significant electoral reforms, may prove a costly and ultimately futile endeavor.

“Such an undertaking could not only squander valuable resources but also risk undermining the political fortunes of the entire Southeast geopolitical zone.

“Consequently, Ohanaeze implores prospective Igbo presidential candidates to re-evaluate their aspirations, prioritising the urgent needs of our region, including the pressing challenges of insecurity and economic revitalization.”

Ohanaeze noted that while it acknowledged the constitutional rights of all citizens to pursue their political ambitions, it is equally committed to delivering the unvarnished truth, no matter the personal cost.

The stark reality is this: WITHOUT MEANINGFUL ELECTORAL REFORMS, VICTORY IN THE 2027 ELECTIONS IS EXTREMELY UNLIKELY.

“The potential consequences of supporting an Igbo candidate who cannot defeat the incumbent president are significant. The economic well-being of our people is intimately tied to political stability and fair play.

“The failed presidential bid could expose innocent Igbo traders and businesses to potential vulnerabilities, particularly within significant economic hubs across Nigeria, most notably in Lagos.”

Rebelutionary:
You ended up saying nothing to counter @Timemanager! What has grandstanding in politics got to do with obvious confusion that is plaguing ADC at the moment!

So if like you said " APC was plagued with issues at it's formation, so we should expect same from ADC? Then what's the difference between the ADC and the APC then? You see your life!

Every person that was touted to be a part of the APC formation came out with their "full chest" declaring where they belong not this one that;

Elrufai is SDP/ADC
Atiku isn't sure if he goofed by joining the ADC
Obi is LP/ADC
Amaechi is a parrot!

Your co-travellers would make us believe that all this is a ploy to "confuse" APC, whatever that means.

Then there's the other set that want to force it down our throats that that same "APC confusion talk" from the earlier mentioned camp of the ADC is actually caused by the APC to weaken the coalition!

Hmmm...

Atiku is waiting for governors that want to decamp... grin grin grin I hope you read that line and see how confused the ADC is! Did APC wait for anybody at it's formation, Mr. Student of political history?

You all will be alright last last when all this dust settles!
Read my rejoinder to another moniker, you'll find answers to your observations/questions. Thanks.
PoliticsRe: 2027: Atiku Delays ADC Membership Card Collection - Details by OLADD:
Putindbutt:
I don't think anyone has said the contestants had to step down for another person, however, APC was never messy where supporters of each candidate are throwing dirts and bricks at each other, bullying and intimidating one candidate to step down for another or threatening it is either a particular candidate or nothing. APC never had a situation where the key players where delaying their membership of the party or having one leg in APC and another leg in their old party weeks after the merger. So, forget story, you can't even compare. How Sunday go be na from Saturday we go see am. This coalition is a joke, no head or tail, the supporters are even confused as to what's going on.
300years from now, Atiku will still never smell Aso rock, he is not destined to be President, he may keep wasting his dollars, the hawks are preparing their pockets once again to collect as much as they can from him.
Electoral seasons come with different tendencies and intricacies. This is 2025 where social media space has gained more traction than it was in 2015.
As mentioned in my earlier post, why the intra-party wranglings in APC pre and post 2015 elections, did not come to the fore, was largely due to the unanimous desire of almost the entire nation for a new direction and thereafter falling for the change mantra. Only few had dissenting voices at that time.
The only similarity to the 2015 scenarios is the mob action been undertaken by Obi supporters who see him as the messiah the same way Buhari was projected as Nigeria's saviour. That's why they hound, intimidate and abuse other candidates and their supporters all in a bid to place Obi on a competitive edge over the other potential candidates. While it worked for Buhari due to his cult following in the north, a part of the country with the largest number of voters, in Obi's case, he comes from a region with the least voting population. Obi's supporters go to town bragging about his overblown credentials but as far as the numbers and national voting spread are concerned, Obi doesn't have it.

On full ADC membership, you can't blame members of the coalition for been cautious in their individual approaches. Jonathan provided a conducive environment and level playing ground for opposition to thrive but the reverse is the case today. However, I think the coalition will take shape as we approach the 2027 elections.

As for Atiku, I am not a northerner so that you won't accuse me of playing tribal card, as far as the political landscape is concerned today, he's the only one without sentiment or prejudice who tick all the boxes for the presidency. This is a fact, not fiction.

But going by his track record as governor of Anambra State for two terms, I don't even agree that he is qualified not does he possess what it takes to rule equitably.
He has so far not been able to prove any significant record of good performance.
In addition, Obi is autocratic, despotic and undemocratic.
He will set Nigeria ablaze.
Plus his avid supporters will turn Nigeria upside down in no time.
This is what his supporters unrepentantly fail to come to term with. Their abbrasive, uncivil and uncouth mannerisms plagued with mob tendencies stand Obi out as someone who should not be entrusted with power at the Federal level. It's equitable to state capture by non-state actors.
PoliticsRe: Here Are Five Reasons Why Peter Obi Will Defeat Tinubu In 2027 Election by OLADD: 12:07am On Aug 11, 2025
This writer appealed to me as someone who was outside the country or in an isolated enclave and therefore, completely shut out of political happenings in 2023. All the so-called factors congesturessly mentioned were prevalent and conspicuously trailed his campaigns in 2023 yet, he failed to clinch the presidency.

Obi definitely has all it takes and qualifies to rule the nation but there are compelling/militating factors that would continue to prevent his victory at the poll until he steps down from the egocentric pedestal his followers consistently place him.

His only path to the presidency in future (not 2027) is becoming a vice to a formidable northern candidate who'll relinquish power to him at the conclusion of their tenure.

Mark this down (and this is not playing God), Obi will not win the 2027 election as a presidential candidate nomatter the packaging, intimidation or window dressing

TimeManager:
It's quite pathetic that a veteran like Atiku could find himself in this kind of a mess despite years of wealth of experience. He was an active participant during the inception of APC, he saw how everything went smoothly, neither did party was divided among any of the contestants or their supporters leading to the primaries. Buhari, Kwankwaso, Atiku, Okorocha kept one house going into the primaries. No one deployed media tactics to sway sympathy or attention to himself as we're witnessing in this coalition of confusion.
When Tinubu was doing it, they thought it was easy, now e reach their turn to do it, dey no fit. If it's not Panadol, e no fit be like Panadol.

I listened to ADC Chairman in Adamawa, he was saying " mark your calendar, August 6", Lol.

Then he will wait till he is 200years old. Oh poor Atiku!

What a shame, Jonathan being thrown into the picture yet again. So, these political IDPs do not even have a clear cut plan before announcing the coalition, they did out of emotion and unnecessary excitement of having a platform to challenge the President but leaving lots of leakages in their behind. We will be watching where this comedy film ends up.

For more jokes and daily comedy skits, send ATIKU to 121.

-Kiss the truth!
The joke is clearly on you and definitely not on Atiku. From your post, it's obvious you're a poor student of Nigerian political evolution. Contrary to your assertion, the journey to the formation of APC was not exactly smooth or devoid of acrimonies. All the major heavyweights from different blocs if you care to know, grandstood and held tight to their chances of picking the sole ticket till the day of the primaries. None of them agreed to step down for the other. Kwankwasso was about coasting home to victory until Tinubu stepped in and used everything in his arsenal to ensure Buhari's victory.

In a nutshell, APC's path to the presidency in 2015 was largely aided by the mood of the nation and their fathom change mantra which so many gullible Nigerians and non Nigerians alike (the CSOs, local and international media organizations, diplomatic missions, local and international pressure groups, foreign missions etc cheaply felt for.
The nation was unleashed with unprecedented propaganda and falsehoods such as it had never been witnessed in the annals of our history. These are some of the main factors that worked in their favour. Everything was not down to the ingenuities or skillsets of the founding fathers.

As for Atiku, I believe he's destined to rule the nation though the road has been rough. I believe his persistency will surely pay off, God willing.

The Governor conducted LG elections after court delays. EOD. Meanwhile like I said, nothing works without FG. If a governor from the SE can be dethroned and someone else who came last was enthroned, and another governor almost got rigged out if not for the personal intervention of an official, if the Edo governor was believed to be elected without the popular votes, if Rivers state is being remote controlled from Abuja and even the police and courts are being used to interfer in state activities, then the country is in a mess. Things cannot work from the bottom, it has to be cleaned up from the top.
Your concerns are quite germain, just that we are both looking at the solutions from different prisms and I am still insisting that our national rebirth should stem from a bottom-top attitudinal approach.
If you agree with me, every leader was once a follower. Any trait or vice been exhibited at the top (leadership) position actually metamophosed from the base of the pyramid.
In the Nigerian context, a bad-mannered local council chairman would always doubledown on his negative attributes if he becomes a state governor. The possibility of transfering the same baggages to ministerial positions is almost certain as day and night. That's what I am driving at, in all this.

Nothing will work in Nigeria except the Federal Government works. INEC has to work, the judicial system has to work, the police and security agencies have to work, and these are all institutions of the FG. Nothing works except these systems work.
Charity they say, begins at home. Before pointing fingers at deficiencies in the Federal structure, as an individual, you ought to set exemplary leadership qualities at local and state levels.

A governor that failed to conduct local council elections for 8 years but only did so on the eve of his departure from office should not preach the gospel of democracy ethos to me.

Peter Obi is the only Presidential candidate that is ready to take quick decisive action on major issues in Nigeria. He doesn't hide from the press, which is a quality any President should have to constantly reassure the citizens that he understands the reality on ground and has a plan.

Any President who avoids the press creates uncertainty especially with investors who don't want to be guessing what the plan is and how they're being tackled. Without investor confidence, investments and economic growth will slow down and jobs will suffer.

Peter Obi is the President Nigeria needs now.
So, up till now you're still not fed up with these fabulous and unfounded claims that resonate only with those with shrink mindsets.

As an obidient, please advise Obi to apply his ingenuity in creating an investment friendly environment in the southeast as a prominent figure from that extraction and thereafter transform his success story to national limelight.
Let him also use those skills to resolve at micro level, the lingering crisis in LP. Until then, please stop these tales of feeble idiosyncracies.

K1 indeed erred with his behavour on the tarmac but he's human after all.
However, K1 has paid his dues and carved a niche for himself as an iconic musician whose genre is loved throughout the country. He is as successful as Obi in his chosen carrier. The most annoying part is that most of these politicians attacking APC and Tinubu today just left power 2-3 years ago without nothing to show for.

Just because Tinubu govt didn't favour them, they're bitter and 'lambaring' anyhow not because they hv Nigerian masses at heart.

Nigerian politicians are greedy n self centered. All of them. know this n hv peace. ✌️
The same way Tinubu and his co-conspirators didn't give Jonathan breathing space just few years into his administration. Do you know what! Even when Jonathan tried to entrench inclusiveness in our polity by way of making a southwesterner and woman speaker, Tinubu thwarted and sacrificed it on the altar of political expediency.

If you're talking about greed, the only synanimous word in our political lexicon is APC.

And if you think the aggrieved politicians are only speaking because the government policies do not favour them, it's Tinubu that created the avenue for such. If his polices had been pro-masses, maybe the mouths of the opposition would have been shut.
By the way, do the govt policies favour you wherever you're?
