New HIV drug kills 99 per cent of virus during first human trial

A new HIV drug created by Israeli researchers has passed its first human clinical trial.

At end of the trial, it was discovered that the drug, named Gammora, created by Zion Medical, an Israeli biotech company was capable of wiping out 99 per cent of HIV infected cells in the human body.

According to a statement released by the company and available on PR Newswire, Gammora was able to eliminate up to 90 per cent of the virus during the first four weeks of the trial.




Zion Medical developed the drug Gammora in collaboration with the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the Sirion Biotech in Germany.

The drug is designed to attack and kill the HIV-infected cells in the human body without causing damage to the healthy cells.



In the study, researchers randomly assigned nine participating patients from the Ronald Bata Memorial Hospital in Uganda to receive different doses of Gammora between four to five weeks in July and August of this year.

While the new HIV drug is still in its first stage of exploration, the results have already offered hope that a cure for the dreaded virus is possible.

“Most patients showed a significant reduction of the viral load of up to 90 per cent from the baseline during the first four weeks,” said Dr. Esmira Naftalim, Zion Medical’s head of development.

Am i the only one who feel cheated with the removal of channels 127 and 128 from DSTV bouquet? On November 1st, the management of Mutichoice Africa for reasons best known to them decided to expunge this channels, they gave no reasons nor give replaced it with channels of like substance.
Personally, i have seen no message from Multichoice execept the "important mesage" captions on the channel.
Is there something i am missing? Did anyone get a message from them?

Is the person you are talking about a doctor or an impostor? If he's a doctor, then that's who he is.

No doubt you can request for a female doctor in some places, but if you have an emergency and only male doctors are available, would you rather remain sick or choose to die? In fact in Nigeria, the chances that you would meet a male gynecologist is so high that even when you want to deliver you might meet one.

The best practice would be to have a female nurse for quality assurance.

A doctor is a doctor, either Male or Female, no discrimination. If you have a specific request or preference for whatever reason. Please let them know and I am sure they'll accommodate the request. If they can't, Your money will be refunded and you can use another centre. There is nothing crazy about that part of the process. It is a standard procedure.

Don't get me wrong. All i am saying is WHY CAN'T A MALE DOC ATTEND TO MALE CLIENT (not patients this time) AND A FEMALE TO FEMALES? That's all IoM does; take Med for Immigration/ travel purposes they ain't hospitals hence one would think they should make it part of their standard procudures too to have gender specific docs. Anyway, it's your call and mine, we can pick it up anyway we want.

The good thing is in Lag their are options.

You'll be given another changing gown to UnCloth down to to your undies If it's a male doc and you're female, he'll ask if you want a female nurse to be present. Interesting. Brings back memory of my trip to Schengen territories. In 2012, i had the opportunity to visit Germany (Frankfurt, Pegnitz) Luxembourg, France and Austria all in 7 days!
