I prefer you tell us your opinion (if any) instead of the above. Yet I won't dispute your post bcs of it value sr. I must tell you I am not a practicing engineer/builder but keep on reading/following what people say/do on forum like here. I have read very well where 6" block moulding placed at 45 and I have this done on my site perfectly no single block was broked in the cause of setting it.

Please something has been troubling my mind. I'm currently constructing a three bedroom bungalow with concrete fascia ( parapet). The seasoned engineer handling the project refused to include any pillars on the foundation, saying there is no need.

For the past 2 hours I have been going through different pages of several projects here on this section of nairaland and I cannot say I'm not scared my foundation is without any form of pillars. I don't know if it's because he used 9" blocks on all outside walls.

Please I don't want my house to collapse. Please kindly let me know if there is anything I can still do. Or if the pillars can at this point be included. I'm scared please.

I just filled the foundation with sand. That's the stage the project is at currently.

you wrote that i need 3.1 tonne to 3 bags of cement for 100 blocks.... is this 3.1 tonne of sand or stone dust or both?
35 per bag is okay and clear, just need to clarify the other points.

@bold i think it is actually the opposite, u buy blocks to avoid delay, molding do take sometime

Hello all,

What is the estimated cost savings per block in molding blocks on site vs purchasing specially made blocks?
For the sake of analysis, lets say we need 20k (twenty thousand) blocks and space is available on site to stack it....

1) What is the best unit cost (and savings) we can achieve if we mold compared to buying from the market at btw N200-N220 per block?

2) What are the materials required and quantities to mold 20,000 pieces of 9" blocks on site?

edit: Machine will be used for the molding due to qty required (over 20k) and to get good quality.

With due respect sir, A builder is a Contractor whose job is to construct a civil structure BY employing a necessary workforce :
1. Engineer
2. Workmen (skilled)
3. Labourers (unskilled)
4. Materials
5. Other resources.

But a civil engineer is someone who has acquired knowledge of designing, constructing and maintenance of a structure.

Therefore, just as homeowners, a builder hires an engineer to aid his work with technical or professional aspects.

So, by implication, a civil engineer can be a builder but a builder is not an engineer.

Howbeit, a builder's job description does not include the bone of contention
