No body will offer N10,000,000. Listen Youtube had 72 Million frequent users from all over the world. They had been in existence for just over a year, and you cannot imagine what they will be in the next 5yrs and i think Google got a deal. Now Nairaland has maybe 4,000 regular users and 99% are Nigerian. Plus we have an administrator that has rules and regulations up the wazoo!! Including the newest an most ridiculous one that says we must all emphasize our location. I am telling you that even with 100,000 members Nairaland maybe worth N150,000-N200,000 Max!!

Deb

I like your comments and here is what you do. I resisted the status quo when i was in Nigeria in the following ways. I refused to give Bribe at the Airport when i arrived, I refused to give bribe when i was driving on the road, even when i needed something done in a hurry i refused to give bribe. I thing that really stood out for me is that whereever i went Mr.Biggs, Waiting to Board a plane, waiting to get my registration, i did not let anyone jump the line and even if there was not a line, i tried to start one. My point is that where there is no order like the other fellow said, there will always be hardship for everyone.

It is always amazing how these same "Unruly" Nigerians are able to comport themselves once the get here to the west. They stop Urinating on the streets, they stop throwing thrash on the streets, and many even stop spitting. How come we are able to be civilized outside and follow the Laws of other countries, yet we do not abide by ours. And even Foreigners in Nigeria know not to obey the law, because they know everything is about bribing your way thru life. Lebanese in Nigeria act like touts and yet in Lebanon they are civilized. Now why is that?

Hey Deb
I am guessing that the Daystar church is an American church right? I am guessing that is an American church bringing new ideas to the society and congregation they represent.

I have been to Nigeria Every year for the last eight years and i stay minimum of 4weeks each time. People accept the status quo in that country. The feed the "Beast". Bribery and Corruption is rampant because the citizens allow and encourage it. Police boldly collect money in public, and we keep on paying their salaries on the highway. I think we need to compare Nigeria with neighboring Cameroon and Ghana instead of the USA. Nigerians are now emigrating to Ghana for education and prosperity. Now if that does not tell you how much Nigeria has failed, i do not know what will wake us up.

Ghanaians now discriminate and look down on Nigerians because they are flooding their country. Remember Ghanaians used to come and sell bread in Nigeria, now they have gone back to a reformed and refreshed country. How many years did it take Ghana to implement these reforms? I guess Nigeria is a "Special case".

The people absolutely accept the Status Quo. At the airport, Bus stop, Check Point,Universities, Nigerians are bribing their way in public to get ahead. Like sheep we spit, shout, fight at every stop possible, including the House and Senate. We are 46 and should behave like our age. We need to stop making excuses and face the realities of this degrading society. A 46year old country, that claims to be the Giant of Africa, cannot guarantee Light,Water, or Basic Medical care in any part of the country and you claim we are doing well? Save It!!!

Seun

I live in the most diverse Nation on earth, some came by boat, some by air, some came forcefully, but yet nearly all 300 Million are proud to be American Citizens. Seun you cannot criticize government, and then tell us what their role is in the same breath. The government in this young democracy is reflective of the people, and therefore have a DUTY to serve the people. The Government has failed, directly means the people cannot govern themselves. By the way those Marines and soldiers that are dying in Iraq, are not dying for George Bush, they are dying for their Country.

If it is a "TRUE DEMOCRATIC nation like Seun claims, you have to peg the Governments performance to the People's sentiments. If you took a poll of the Electorate in Nigeria today vs in 1986, which set of people would say they are satisfied with the countries direction? Nigeria has Failed because the Mindset of the people is programmed to fail. We do not expect 24hrs light, we have all accepted bribery as a fast tract method of getting stuff done, we do not demand running water, our healthcare services are below par, therefore everyone that has a mosquito bite wants to leave for treatment in SA or Brazil or the UK. This applies to both Private and Government Fatcats. People always tell me that "Network is Bad" when i call Nigeria and experience back to back to back dropped calls. What the Bleep is that all about? All three major Carries are not reliable and the people just accept the status quo. Bottom Line in 40yrs $300Billion has been stolen from Nigeria by Nigerians(WorldBank), yet 75% of the population live on less than a $ a day(UNCHR). If that is a country that is working, then i am glad i left.
PoliticsRe: Why Is Nigeria Not Working? by OldGlory1(m): 5:32pm On Oct 17, 2006
Nigeria is not working and will Never work because of too many damn tribes with competing interest. There is no "I" in the word "TEAM". There is no sense of patriotism, no Law and Order, and rampant acceptable levels of Corruption. That is a recipe for disaster, and that is why we are so Backward.

You are tripping!! My point about the Google stock was that it was a smart move for them to acquire Youtube and not for bragging rights. Please check yourself. Google has made a lot of money for their stock holders and therefore we should all assume that the move to buy Youtube for $1.65Billion was the right move. And since the acquisition google stock has risen. You dig?

You are really weak!!! What is the Buying Power of those maybe 10,000 real members of NL. I visit many other sites everyday and it is only Nigerian/African Forums like these that are very restrictive. I will not pay more than N150K. What do you think the Value is? I am not an IT person and therefore i will not be interested in setting up a webpage.I in the Automobile Business and have been very successful at that.

@Admin

Why are words so hard for you? You keep deleting my post. Not Good !!!! If you do not like what people say, you should learn to ignore it and stop being a w**k*!! But again Free Markets are for free people!! Google is a typical Free Enterprise Company and Nairaland.com is one man's mind set. There is a clear difference in approach/Mind set.

Google stock has gone up 6 points since the deal was announced, so i think "Real Investors" are pleased.

What do you think the value of Nairaland.com is? I am curious to know what you mean by "A lot more than N150,000". There are millions of Nairaland.com. How do you valuate it. Why is it personal? Is it because it is only for Nigerians? Please explain the Unique features of the site and why i should pay more than N150K? From a strictly investor stand point, i think the owner of the site, makes the site a lot cheaper, because of too many damn rules.

Youtube, myspace, angieslist and sites like that are successful because they understand that it is people that make the site great, not the owners of the site. And these sites are all global and were all started in some Garage or a Basement. Difference is that a typical Nigerian site Administrator loves the bully pulpit and therefore cannot progress.

Shame on all the Naysayers. I bought Google Stock @ $320 and it is selling for $420 Nasdaq: Goog. That is what you fools said when Rupert Murdoch bought Myspace.com for $600Million. Now myspace.com is now worth $10Billion today. Seun maybe you need to sell Nairaland.com for N100,000 and let a real free marketer show you the potential/power of open minds and free markets.

Because you look at this site like a " personal possesion" instead of a "platform", that is why your mentality and opinions remain stagnant. In other words if Saddam Seun dies, Nairaland.com will die too. You need to learn how to think outside of the box. If the Founders of Google die in a plane crash, Google will be here for the next Hundred years. Yahoo and Microsoft offered in excess of $1Billion for Youtube.com. Are you telling me that all these companies have not made mega profits for their investors? Nigerians need exposure. Seun you claim to be a "Free Marketer", but yet you are really a Soviet Era strong arm economist. Has Nairaland made a profit? What is it worth? I will make you a N150,000 offer to buy you out.

Freethinker!!!

I think you can get a 2000-2001 Nissan Xterra for about $10,000 landed in Lagos Using RORO. I do not think it is wise to put it in a container, it is not worth the trouble. It will not be cost effective either. But the Nissan is a much better vehicle than the Mitsubishi Montero Sport. Go and Test Drive both Vehicles and you will see the difference. But whatever you decide, i hope i was helpful.

Good Luck.

I am sorry i cannot elaborate much, but if i were you, i will go for the Nissan Xterra. It is more reliable and has a better resale value. But also i must say that the Montero Sport has had a bunch of Recalls, and i am sure the market in Nigeria is flooded with Montero Sports that have not been rectified.
