You are absolutely correct. But, controlling prices does mean abnormal prices and hardship that we face today. Again, use that cement as an example. If we are still important in the face of the current devaluation. Someone was lamenting days ago on Facebook that is ordered/bought an IPhone (I don't know which one) and had to pay over four hundred thousand naira as custom duties on it. Also, another thing: before we condemn Dangote for selling cement cheaper in other countries, find out why Samsung is cheaper in Nigeria compare to Korea. Same reason why Chinese will sometimes subsidise her exporting companies. At least, let him keep the jobs for us. This game is not easy globally. ojeysky: |
Truly. Not only that, but, maybe for the first time, we can earn true forex from crude export. Because, before now, we sell crude, "earn forex", borrow more dollars with the so called "earned forex" from crude, and use it to import petroleum products and pay subsidy. Was that one earning forex? megawealth01: |
You sure? With NNPC as the sole buyer/distributor/monopoly? How I wish we can get rid of NNPC totally in this matter. Let them just wait for the reward of their 7.5% stake megawealth01: |
This is called "close marking" (in a local English). Since they failed in frustrating the DR, and the probable end to their free money on importation and the associated "subsidy", they are giving DR "close marking" and they want to keep Nigeria in captivity by force. I just pity Alhaji Aliko Dangote. He would have built the refinery in another country, if he knew. Is either the bring in another "entagling support/subsidy" and force DR to comply or that refinery collapse like their own. All the recent drama is for that to happen. They want the price to be as high as anything before DR begins rolling out of PMS. So that they can tell bullaba that they new crude to offset some cost. I don't see Alhaji Dangote being able to achieve one of his aims (driving down cost; both direct and indirect). He just have to play along; he doesn't have choice. That investment is huge. Note, Before you accusing Dangote of monopoly or getting undue advantage from government, just imagine how much you would have been buying cement now, if he didn't open up that sector and if we are still importing. Remember how much PMS, Rice, etc were sold before he started producing cement. That will guide you to know how the price would have been Zagee: |

Good to know that ASUU is more powerful than the government. Obviously, ASUU also made the newly created universities "non self sufficient". ASUU has always proposed many ways to fund university. Go and check how ETF came to being. And now politicians have hijacked it using it to fund irrelevant things. It is amazing "how selfish ASUU is", in a country where the take home of a professor is less than 500k. In University like UI where we had to help our professors carry kegs to look for water up and down. Where we had to contribute money to hire generator for months (when there is no reliable power) in order to do analysis and research needed to represent the university in national and international competitions. ASUU IS ALWAYS THE PROBLEM, right? Including the schools that doesn't have ASUU. I end my case here o. This is Nigeria Stock Picks not ASUU or government thread ![]() Raider76: |
But you did not mention why you diagree on ASUU. We always think all about ASUU is salary, which is not so. I did my masters in UI, if not for ASUU struggles and alumni, they wouldn't have had any working equipment. Still I had to send the bulk of my samples to Canada. ASUU strike affected me in the past also (though at master’s level). But that does not me I will blame ASUU for it. I said it then that they shouldn't have called off the strike. Because, I know that our government is irresponsible. By the way, I am not a member of ASUU, and I don't even work in government establishment. More so, I never said the amount was not the true consumption. I only mentioned some of the realities in Nigerian Universities. Because it was as if UNILAG, etc are irresponsible. That was why I mentioned private too. Just to have a view about the affordability. Schools of UNILAG, UNIBEN, UI etc's magnitude should even be consuming more than that if they are affective and are where they should be. Labs, equipments, research, etc consume a lot. Some equipments can not or should not be turned off. Again, my point is affordability who will pay at the end? I deliberately did not respond to the post on the order given to crash food prices. It is also related to this. Government did not give an order to address cost of production. Yet, they want prices to be crashed, I can only laugh in Spanish. Th3y are just playing over our intelligence, because they know prices of food will relatively come down due to some harvest coming in (most of which we don't have storage for). They will now say it is their policy or order that is working. I beg make we leave ASUU and UNILAG matter. We are here for business ![]() Streetinvestor2: |
It seems you have very little or no idea about the initial topic and your comment about ASUU. Are you aware that every penny generated by every federal university is going directly to the TSA ? This includes the 400 naira vehicle sticker (so that you have an idea). Are you aware that every institution in Nigeria is now a revenue generating institution? Are you aware that Crawford University (a private university) paid over 300 million of Naira for the month of May 2024? Are you aware of the outcry of Dr Save a life that pays 20 million naira for a month in just one of his hospital units? Are you aware that one bedroom self contain pays between 15 to 20k per month in band A? I guess UNILAG will be on the band A. Fine, universities should be able to generate electricity on their own. But where is the initial fund? Is it the university where students needs to send samples to Canada, US, SA, etc for analysis, because of lack of equipments? Anyway, I understand your pain, as you latter mentioned. One year is a long time to waste, I agree. But trust me, if not for ASUU push, I wonder where Nigeria universities would have been. Raider76: |
@Laso09 Valid points. @Laso09 and other are valid also. I am still not clear about the dominant force in the Nigerian Stock Market. Still studying, observing, and "gambling". TA, SA, Valuation.... or sentiments and/or manipulations? The peculiarity of each market (NGX, JSE....) will determine which drive controls the market. All drives plays a role, but some are stronger than the other. I know the existence of Nigeria itself defies logic. That is why some conventional economic principles will not work here. Thank God for harvest season, CBN would have hike interest rates to 100% and food inflation would have kept increasing. So, some conventional methods and analysis might not work here. Still looking for what works ![]() Mankind2024: |

You are right. But I wonder how arbitrage would work in a centralized space like stock. I know it works and is not difficult with crypto. But here, I hope the person will not end up losing the little value that it has on JSE. @KarlTom This number 2 caught my attention. 2. Registrar Coordination: The company's registrar will handle the cancellation of the shares on the JSE and reissue them on the NGX. My mind is telling me that it will be more or less "selling on JSE and buying back on NGX" with the amount realized at the point of the transaction. Shares are not canceled at an individual's request just like that. It doesn't add up to cancel 20 and give/award 70; who will bear the 50? Ginalex: |

Thank you. Your advise is well taken. But my request/question does mean I am finally illiterate. I mentioned that I hold minimum units of IPO in a couple of stocks. By the way, I got those as an undergraduate student (2006/2007); more of investing. I am a small investment holder with stakes in MMF, crypto and stocks. Saying I am a newbie doesn't mean I don't know anything about finance. Just that i consider most people here more advance thank I am. I have learnt a lot here already since I started following a couple of months ago. That prediction caught my attention because it was similar to my "imagination", which I have not tried. And that was why what informed my response and interest. Like I said, my imagination was not even up to 50%. I am still thinking, and evaluating. I guess asking for more info does hurt. Asking for info or guidance does mean I will just jump into it or beyond my risk appetite. I have seen a lot of recommendations and predictions here. It does mean I will act on all. But if I don't know, how would I ack. Anyway. Let me continue my ready and also keep following the developments on the current page. That is what I have been doing. I guess less than 100 pages to go ![]() Thanks for the great work going on here. God bless you all MARKETJJC: |
Could you also enlighten us the newbies about this? Thank you. Raider76: |
Well said sir. Same reason I will to take the risk if I can get a clue. I will say that I am new in this space (since I invested a negligible amount in 2006/2027 and was out of touch since then). My 10k, 100k, 1m might eventually grow wings and fly away without anything to show, or get spent on what is not so important. If I put 1m and I am able to realise half of your projection, to me, it is not bad at all. Sometimes, we don't win always. I also agree that the most difficult part is to stay disciplined (greed is a beast; but everyone wants more money ). I am following you..... aj8: |

Please how does the narration for the alert of Transcorp dividends look like? Does it look like this: FIP:PRB/BUD INFRASTRUCTURE/TPT Trf to XXXXXXXXXXXX? I just did my e-dividends mandate and did not receive dividends since 2013 or so because of that. This is my first e-dividend. |
2023-2024 backlog at a glance. The backlog has increased since January 1024. The positive (P) and negative (N) attempts to compare 2023 with 2024.

Nice! Even, if (b) happens without addressing (a), it will only technically worsen the case after USCIS approval. Increasing the quota will not ordinarily benefit that rate of processing at embassies. TinFoil100: |
