Don't we have enough scrap buyers in this country? They should sell it to them in pieces. They should at least let us recycle the iron components and use as nails and rods. Or go with the hard but good option; burn it. YES! Or gift it out. Since they frustrated it's privatisation.
Or will it not be better to have saved the more than $25 billion dollars spent on those moribund refineries in the last couple of decades? That is what yoruba people call "agbana" in the life of this nation.
I have less than 20% believe that those refineries will ever function way they should again. I get annoyed anytime I hear about those refineries and Ajaokuta steel/iron company. Because since I was born, no good news from them.

A friend's adjustment of status filing was return due to lack of appropriate fee, that was why I was asking to figure out what was wrong.

The word bunkering means fueling or refueling a ship. We all know how we "use" wordings in Nigeria. That is why I said in Nigeria context. Bunkering (stealing of crude oil) in Nigeria is illegal. I am sure GEJ would have mentioned fueling your ship is legal. He's from Niger Delta, he knows what bunkering means very well.

Interesting!
Doe that mean the NVC timeline is kind of "selective"? That is, it doesn't apply to all categories of applicants in some instances like this?

Because, the current timeline shows they are creating files for Petitions received from USCIS on 11.07.2024.

It seems this timeline does not work for applicants whose country quota has been exhausted. Am I correct?

A friend of mine also belong to this category. He was approved on 3rd June 2024 or so. I was thinking he should have received his welcome letter (from NVC) by now.

InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by olig(m): 12:15pm On Jul 23, 2024
He can't survive with that. Byvthe way, he didn't ask FG to ban importation yet. That is not the current issue.

So, you want him to crash price to compete with importation that benefits from two edged subsidies? How will he cope with that?
Nigerian government is subsidising the importation, and technically, most times the originating country is also subsidising (by removing some taxes on exported product, so that they can produce more and keep their jobs)

Pesuzok:
Dangote should crash the price of pms and send the importers out of business. To me, that is fair competition, but wanting fg to ban import might not really be fair.

Secondly the fg should set a minimum standard on the quality of pms either imported or refined.

Lastly, both the refinery and importers should source for their usd themselves
InvestmentRe: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by olig(m): 7:57am On Jul 20, 2024
This is one of the reasons I doubt if this country can be good again.

At the end, 'they will tie it to low quality crude imported by the Dangote refinery, and they will ban him from imported crude. He will then be at the mercy of the 2 litters sold to him by NNPC'. I guess that is their play book.

Where are the results of the test conducted on the product? They should show us at least three different results. Is it not this country that when you buy petrol today, it is yellow; buy tomorrow, it is colorless; buy next tomorrow, it is brownish....? Some will be smelling like wetin I no know.

Afterall, it is not the same quality of petroleum products they sell in Europe and elsewhere that they sell to us.

SonofElElyonRet:
Dangote Industries Limited (DIL) has condemned an online report criticizing the quality of its products, adding that its refined diesel is 80% superior to those currently imported into Nigeria.

In a statement released by the company’s spokesperson, Anthony Chiejina, on Friday, Dangote Industries Limited called reports of producing high-sulfur diesel “mischievous and aimed at tarnishing our reputation.”

Recall that reports circulating online, made by NMDPRA CEO Farouk Ahmed, claim that local refineries, including the Dangote refinery, are producing inferior products compared to imports.

Reacting to this report, Dangote said the allegation was false, baseless, and mischievous.

What Dangote is Saying
The spokesperson said the refinery is designed to produce top-quality petroleum products that meet strict international standards.

“The false and misleading allegations made by some media outlets that the Dangote Refinery is producing substandard diesel which is why it reduced the price by 37%, is baseless and mischievous.

“Until late last year, diesel imports into Nigeria were up to 7,000 parts per million (ppm) of Sulphur which has been going on for many years. Our diesel is produced currently at significantly lower levels of Sulphur; as such, we find baseless the allegation that the reason for the reduction is linked to quality. What we are producing is 80% of what is being imported into the country.

“Another inaccurate assertion is that Medium Level Sulphur diesel is meant for off-road use. This is a completely false statement as this would have invariably meant that all the imports for the last 20 years have been damaging equipment.

“Thirdly, diesel imports for the high Sulphur grade have been at significantly higher prices until we started operation. If indeed high Sulphur diesel is sold at lower prices how come we never saw the lower prices until now?” the spokesperson said.

Chiejina affirmed that the real reason behind the Dangote diesel price reduction was principally due to the patriotism of the management to the nation as well as prevailing market dynamics of supply and demand.

What you should know

In June, the management of Dangote Refinery accused NMDPRA of aiding the importation of “dirty” diesel and jet fuel into the country.

The Vice President of Oil and Gas at Dangote Industries Limited, Devakumar Edwin, said the indiscriminate licensing from the regulator made it possible for there to be inferior products in Nigeria.

According to Edwin, despite Dangote’s effort to meet ECOWAS standards, the authority gives licenses to traders to import high-sulfur petrol from Russia into the country.

He explained that since the US and UK have issued a cap on Russia’s petroleum products, these products are now dumped in Nigeria’s market by various traders.

In addition, the leadership of the mega refinery also accused International Oil Companies (IOCS) of price manipulation, aimed at undermining and sabotaging the refinery in the market.

Don't mind them. Even those that cam not create just one job are hating him. They have no idea what it takes. He has also suffered failure in many businesses, nobody will talk about that. Only that government favours him. And so whathuh
Some people stills more than amount needed for a refinery, how many people benefited from that?

Nothing cam please Nigerians. Imagine we removed Dangote from Nigerian economy today, where are we going to be? When you remove army and police, Dangote is the highest employer of labour in Nigeria; higher than the clueless government we have.

Another sentiment is that "cement is cheaper in other countries he export to".
That is economics and business. At the end it pays Nigeria, because the job is with us. Only the market is with them. The same way Samsung is cheaper here than in Korea, etc.
I have ordered and equipment from Germany before. I initially thought I could carry it along. Bust doing the calculation, it is cheaper to deliver to Nigeria, than a German address.

When you export, you are "good", when you import, "you bring in some sort of poverty". Why do we think Trump is wanting all American industries back on their soil?

Laso09:
And you think the person that wrote this was not emotional.
To me , nothing is new in what he said, it is all about the old long hatred against dangote by many in the country.
Why didn't ibeto start his own cement production in the country when importation was banned according to some people?
How many private companies got licence for refinery in the country even before dangote? Where are the refineries or is it that dangote also stop their refineries from working?
Dangote definitely is not perfect but most of the allegations against him are also faulty in my opinion.

The questions now are:
1) Did the banks sell all their dollars because the value increased? Or are they supposed to sell all now because they want to pay taxes?
2) Will they pay the dollars investment back in Naira when the dollar investors needs their money?
3) What would have happened if dollars lost its value like Naira. Will the government pay the banks in that case?
4) Why should FX gain taxed separately? When they were all paying taxes before. I am sure they have even paid some taxes on the FX gain already. Because it is part of their profits, on which they pay taxes.
5) Why didn't the government itself do the business; buy and keep the dollars before they devalue the Naira. Because they know ahead. Unlike the banks that is just taking risk; it could have also crashed/crushed them
