theoctopus: Sometimes I dont understand how you people just post things with so much ignorance of government procedure. Do you think GEJ can just order central bank to bring 100 billion just like that? Every expenditure for the year in budgeted. If there is a new project, the FG will have to send a supplementary budget to the NASS for approval. Why cant you guys just understand this simple thing for once. And you cannot be talking about sending a supplementary budget in November can you? We are talking of 2014 budget now, not 2013. I think part of the problem we have in this country is mass ignorance of our government works and it seem deceitful unions and parties always take advantage of that to hoodwink the gullible public
plenty of thank u

12 inches!:
So according what you have posted here, the president can also wake up next year and say that the agreement signed by the minister of education is unworkable. Once beaten twice shy. If the president is truly sincere and has the interests of the students at heart, let him sign the agreement without delay. After all it shudnt take more than 30 secs for him to sign the agreement. Or what is the point of being in a meeting for 13 hrs, coming to an agreement and then now to fail to give the agreement legal backing by signing it.
both d fg and ASUU have sumtin in their sleeves they are clearly hiding...d fg is no fool,or else d document would have been signed

There is a body responsible for it. When you get to an industrial court, you will understand what the president just said! You are the clueless one obviously grin
u took dat foolish and cluess individual to the cleaners, luv that!! sum people are iliterates ,wat d president said is not contradicting d position already taken..
EducationRe: ASUU Dismisses Fg’s Threat To Sack Lecturers by Olril18(m): 10:02pm On Nov 30, 2013
prof.femi:
Hmm, don't be so sure.

Fact is, FG has messed up on this big time. I am definitely for calling off the strike (I have been for a long time). However, Wike is nudging me in the other direction. When the committee of pro-chancellors instructed last week that universities be opened, I was sure I would start lectures from Day 1. But...why Wike/FG felt the need to roil the waters of this issue the way they have, I haven't the foggiest idea.

Although I am a lecturer, I have to say that both FG and ASUU have, at different times, acted stupidly over this strike issue. Most recently, I think ASUU has not shown the proper respect for the Office of the President (forget whether it is GEJ or not). Hence, I was in a queer situation of not knowing which of the two combatants I was angriest with.

Wike has however made my choice easier. I do not respond well to threats. Not when I am 1000% certain of the value I bring to the table. This is not about whether I can be replaced (or how long it will take the system to do so). It is about whether I have options if GEJ sacks me. Believe me brother, I have many options, almost *all* of them better than my current job (or my current country).

Fact is, ignore all the rubbish Wike said about new demands. I kept quiet till I found out exactly what ASUU requested (not demanded) for, and there is NOTHING there that a sincere government should find so difficult to do. I am left with only two plausible explanations: (a) GEJ feels disrespected, and wants to wield the big stick. This would be somewhat understandable, but surprising, given that we are so close to resolving the issue (b) FG has not been sincere all along. After all, if they promised to inject 200B this year, and we are already 3 weeks to the effective end of the year...

I am not totally sure I will refuse to resume; however I can assure you 1000% that if I do, Wike's threat will not be the reason. In fact, his threat is the only reason why I am likely not to resume work.

So I say: Wike, bring it on (and to my students: sorry we live in a shitty country).
u are a rubbish, just like ur fellow and most nigerian lecturers ......u guys(lecturers)are full of corruption..even much more dan d government u.are fighting....how can lecturers in d name of fighting for students kerp us at home for five solid months and be comfortable about it...im baffled cos it is a total joke... .u are just a foolishly biased lecturer..
EducationRe: ASUU Being Lambasted By Fellow Lecturers Live On Channelstv by Olril18(m): 8:49pm On Nov 30, 2013
Luchitec: ASUU is now a big joke….an organization made up many unproductive lecturers. Revamping the universities is not the sole responsibility of the government, these lecturers should contribute too. How? In the West, reputable academics purchase equipment, hire research and student assistants from grants obtained from companies and organizations. In fact, in some universities research grant portfolio and publications are the key determinants for promotion. In Nigeria, some of these lecturers do zero research, deliver archaic/poorly developed lectures and yet they want to be remunerated at par with their colleagues abroad.

Honestly, some of the major proponents of this strike thing have no business being in the university. It beats my imagination how university dons with a plethora of things to do can afford to stay away from their duty post for 5 months! Given the way the Nigerian universities are presently constituted, no improvement will be happening soon even if the government/private sector invests one trillion dollars there. It is about time the government, parents and students should make these eggheads accountable. Enough of this nonsense, there should be a yearly or biannual evaluation system for teaching and research competency for lecturers in place. All those found unproductive after each evaluation cycle should be kicked out.
well said sir...it still beats my imagination seeing some archaic fools supporting ASUU..wen ASUU are infact more corrupt than d goverment they are fighting.

odua son: Thank you very much!at last one right thinking nigerian student, the others brains seem to be in reverse mode.To them ASUU is wicked to demand for a complete restructuring in the nigeria university sector.
They keep screaming they want to go back to school when they are still going to resume in the same shitty schools with dilapitated structures, outdated equipments, congested classrooms and so many other ills in their various universities.
All you educated illiterates should get this into your dull and rusty brains,ASUU is not fighting for increament in lecturers salaries but for the betterment of the nigerian education system,No nigerian university is among the top 5000 universities in the world!!that shows the depth at which the standard of education has fallen in this country. So be supportive and stop being ungrateful to the selfless and fearless ASUU members who are fighting for something you lots are too cowardly to embark on.You students are still going to be the biggest beneficiaries in the longrun.

ikechiozo: ASUU national executives act based on instructions given by the members. As at the time of meeting with the president the standing instruction was to discuss the 2009 agreement, which the government took a new position. The NEC took this new position for the members to agree on, which they agreed and requested the CBN to be a part of it. I hope you understand now!

Mazi_Omenuko: In recent times, we've seen the Association of health workers embark in a strike after FG failed to honor an agreement it had with them. We've seen Nasu embark in a strike due the same dishonorable attitude. You want ASUU to call-off the strike based on the words of this same govt?

Once beaten, twice shy! Let the NLC, TUC, finance minister and cbn governor append their signature on the damn document and schools will reopen.
get out ASUU!!

Jman06: Prof. Faggae is a staunch APC loyalist, the motive behind this ASUU strike is to poison the mind of the public against GEJ's administration so that APC can capitalize on that to score cheap political points as 2015 approaches. It's unfortunate that some politically naive lecturers are not aware of the political undertone behind the prolonged strike.
i completely agreed with u,dz obviously why state universities have been in this strike for long, without those state governors not even attempting to cajole or force those fools back to work...its all to score cheap point against.jonathan..

u are a sham..but from ur post,i can already deduce u are one of those silly lecturers....d funniest thing is people like u are cowards,so sure u wuld be one of those who will resume even b4 gates opened on monday.....ASUU,as an organisation for ur information are bunch of intellectual fools!!!

not evrione depends on cheating ..

i bought all books and read for months like if my life depends on them...scoring 203 was a shocker, knowing that d exam itself,i think i did well,i rememberd sobbing for several days thinking my dream of studying law is gone....ironically i destroyed.d postjamb(scored 79)and still get admission to law....
some people might depends on cheating,d truth is,and let's face it,despite this "education in nigeria has fallen" saying, nigerian students are not that dull, and jamb itself has some glaring problems..
how they were able to compute results of candidates of over 2 million within four/five days remains.a.sort of mystery to me.
