texazzpete: You 'admire the patience of the President'? Can someone PLEASE inform this insincere clown that this is a democracy?! The President's patience has nothing to do with anything here. Nigerians are the ones to be commended for tolerating many of the anti-people agenda of the FG.
Why would ASUU call off the strike in the meeting with the President without consulting with the wider body of ASUU? You seem clueless about this system. This is not a gathering of low lifes you can tempt with a brown envelope. The people who met with the President aren't impressed by the glamour of Aso Rock. These are highly educated people we're talking about. You think a meeting with the President was enough to make them call it off there and then?
They want the MOU signed by the Attorney General of the Federation without delay. This is an easy, no-brainer solution. The last time they signed an agreement, the FG went around claiming it was not signed by a permanent secretary. The Senate President claimed the head of the FG negotiation team was not of sound mind.
In short, by casting doubts about the signatories of the 2009 negotiation, the FG brought this stubborn insistence of ASUU for ratification at the highest levels upon themselves. Even a 10 year old can see this. I know you're intelligent enough to see this, so I will conclude (not for the first time) that you have been paid sums of money to propagate this disgraceful opinions on Nairaland.
It's not about paying 200bn Naira in 2013. ASUU needs the assurance that 200bn will be paid in 2014 too, and 2015, and 2016 as agreed. We need that assurance. Failure of the FG to implement this is highly suspicious.
What the heck is this shyte?! Does this deserve a cookie? Sane minds are wondering why it took him 4 months to personally intervene. He had no reason himself to sit at the meeting. There is an education minister who GEJ should have been supervising to do this work. In any sane climate, the Education minister should have been relieved of his job months ago. Bottom line is, GEJ found more use out of the Education minister in battling Amaechi than to actually solve the ASUU strike.
The funds in question are OWED allowances. Owing ASUU already is a form of Governmental theft. Does the FG require cookies for the rare occasion when they do the right thing?
It is called a 'negotiation'. When you are 'negotiating', you keep putting forward offers until a compromise is reached. Have the bundles of N1000 notes put in your pockets clouded your command of the English language?
For all intents and purposes, ASUU has accepted the last compromise offer by the FG. All they require is proper and bulletproof ratification and a signed and sealed pledge that the brave lecturers who have now obtained significant funding for our Universities will not be victimized for this. They should be lauded as heroes, but that is a separate discussion entirely.
I know many on Nairaland are young people, but anyone who is 30 and above here will remember that every single President we've had for well over 2 decades has had to content with ASUU strikes. Abacha, babangida, Obasanjo, Yar'Adua...I'm not sure why you're trying to revise history. Perhaps this is a clear indication that crisp naira notes can cloud the memory?
Can you STOP this nauseating tribal politics here?
PS: Thank God you can never accuse ME of being one of the 'Tinubu dogs' or 'APC sympathizers' as you like to babble on about. I am on record here when I've seriously lambasted the likes of Fashola and Tinubu multiple times. Unlike you, I am a patriot. you are a fool in denial...d questions still remain, did all the rubbish trash uve written here justify that ASUU are right to keep us at home for six months has ASUU ever contributed positively to our university system other than be a striking union?? why has ASUU always been striking over and over the same thing?? they v striked 9 months,6 months,4 months,3 months, can u tell us how this senseless strikes had shaped and improve the university system?? are the fg also the people who teaches with obsolete course outline, demand sex from female and money from males??,used plagarised hand outs??,and being lazy to go to to class and teach...did u recongnised this is also a sort of decay?? is their any assurance since there have been longer strikes, this is going to be the.last??,and in the next year or two,ASUU won't embark on strike again?? can u pintpoint the positives of the previous ASUU strike, other than the fact ASUU soon embarked on another?? have u read the 2009 agreements??,did u see all ASUU selfish demands that outweigh the improvement in infracstructures they claimed they are fighting for?? it surprises me why anybody will be in support of ASUU??d damages they v caused to our university system will take a long time to rectified.. u can blame the fg,but ASUU are not saints either!! |

Orlando Owoh: This is where most of you get it wrong. Yes, FG and ASUU don't lose anything, but the students. Has it occurred to you that it is the students that will benefit more in the long run? Facilities will be upgraded. so myopic, its only foolish apc sponsored people like u that will be in support of ASUU.. d damage ASUU has done to our universities is probably more worse than d govt its fighting...of course faggae will not admit 2 d public d strike has been hijacked by politicians, but let's face it,there is more to this strike that the eye can see.. is it hardly surprising that none of southwest universities controlled by the Apc has even made any attempt to pull out of the strike??, d only one that pulled out is a labour party controlled state... ASUU my foot!! |

Bobandgreat: Yoruba Christians are naturally tolerant but handicapped as well because of their relatives who are Muslims. This is understandable, but they have to realise that these Muslims will not be as tolerant as they are if the table is turned and they can always support it with their Quran. See it this way, to a christian, Family is everything but to a Muslim, religion is everything. This is so because Christianity is a way of life and not necessarily a religion while Islam is a hard core religion that can be manipulated by their leaders. Hence, a Muslim can easily abandon his family if it serves his religion while a christian will see any religion that tells him to abandon his family as false, rather he will continue to pray for his family to change. These people are ur family quite alright, but their allegiance and complete Loyalty lye with their religion and decisions of their religious leaders. You Christians are second fiddle where people of thesame faith with them are concerned. If u like be their mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, uncles, neices, nephews, friends, etc, once u cross lines with their religious leaders or colleagues, u seize to be relevant. I urge u Yoruba Christians to be that daring so that everybody would know when not to cross a line. You are better than these Muslims, why should they be lording their religion all over u people. What has Hijab got to do in a Christian school. If u can not respect the school uniform, then go to an Islamic school. what a biased bastard!!! |

He was asked that if its true that most of the demands can actually be achieved without FG through the use of internal generated funds, e.g acceptance fees, pre degree stuffs buh instead he was talking about hostels shits. 2. He was asked what they (ASUU) can achieve with 200B in less than 4weeks to the end of 2013, yet he dodged the question again. 3. The AIT girls saw that those demands he argued that wasn't new where actually new buh He wan change am for them. Etc 4. He was also asked that what is the hope of Nigeria students before this year ends, he yet again didn't answer the question.

paragon40: Sequel to the Vice Chancellor's directive that FUTO students should resume as directed by FG. I wish to condemned a section of online media information on sack of All lecturers in FUTO wish I describe as utterly irresponsible, deplorable, highly unprofessional and unethical antics of certain fringe elements operating in the nebulous sphere of cyberspace who would do nothing less than to persist in seizing every opportunity to unjustifiably malign, impugn, misinform and mislead the general public by cooking and spreading malicious lies and fallacy. FG directed lecturers to sign registers in schools to show that they have resumed. To the best of my knowledge FUTO has not sacked any lecturer. Nonetheless, All Students are expected to return to school. The school management maintains exam must hold this year though the exam may not start on 9th of December, 2013 as scheduled earlier. A new date will be communicated upon students return. Aluta Continua...! Brun'o, (O'bama) S'GF (SUG SECRETARY FUTO) thanks for clearing the air..but tribune should share large part of the blame for starting and pedlling the rumor |

texazzpete: 1. I'm not an ASUU member, and I most likely never will lecture. (unless after I retire I decide to give something back)
2. I don't care about public opinion polls. It lines up perfectly with my summation of the vast majority of Nigerians a 'gutless cowards'. I have lived through tons of NLC strikes over minimum wage, fuel price increase etc. Public opinion ALWAYS swings against strike continuation after just a few days. Look, the FG can make fuel N200 per litre tomorrow and within 2 weeks, people like you will start begging NLC to call off the strike. Happens every time.
Some of us support ASUU in this matter because we have functional brains, and because we love our country. If it means some of you have to sit at home for 6 months so that the Universities will see some improvement, I'm all for it.
I'm flattered! I had thought you only reserved this greeting for your close family members |

texazzpete: Yet another indication that the vast majority of Nigerians are gutless and cowardly.
No. ASUU was 'sabotaged and hijacked' when they would go on strike and resume lectures on the basis of empty promises with nothing signed on paper. Now, they are finally fighting for the right thing. It takes a mentally inept fellow to insinuate that the strike is 'political' or has been 'hijacked'.
It was a national disaster more than a decade ago when our universities started churning out unemployable graduates, when lecture halls had the shoddiest of equipment available, when the conditions of service of lecturers was so poor that only the poorest graduates wanted to stay back to lecture.
I don't get you...is it that you do not truly appreciate how terrible our Universities are now? Is it that you do not see how DESPERATELY our tertiary institutions needs revamping...our labs, hostels, lecture halls etc? Is it that you are blind to see that only a small fraction of the truly gifted graduates stay back to teach others and pass on their knowledge as lecturers?
Well, some of us aren't as blind as you are...and we see that truly, desperate times require desperate measures. Kudos to ASUU!
This is exactly what makes the FG happy. One ignorant fellow supporting an FEC that has ZERO of their nuclear family members studying in a Federal University. All their kids enjoy top-of-the line University education. It must tickle them pink when students in Federal Universities that make do with labs with defunct equipment are 'supporting them'.
You poor, naive fellow. foolish ASUU member,so wat are u trying to prove, dat even if ASUU are fighting for wat is right(according to themselves),that students, should be kept away for six months..common dts a joke....u failed to also answer why universities are now pulling out...doesnt.dat means something is going inside ASUU,dat d public can't understand?.. and finally conduct an opinion poll,ASUU has lost all public sympathy, not because people belive they are selfish like we students do,but because they have pushed their demands to d extreme.... you old fool!!! |

macof: And you have no right to disrespect and claim people are rejected by God.
You are not God, and have never heard, seen or felt God, you do not know anything other than wat people have written in Bible for u.- which is not reliable, and cannot be considered universal truth as it is simply one perspective contradicting all others.
There's more chance of the major Bible doctrines and ur post to be false because a God of the universe wouldn't restrict righteousness to only few individuals and punish those he did not because he didn't fancy them enough to give them such righteousness like Abraham.
all humans are born with consciousness in order to feel(not literally) God, his will exist in everyman.
And people like u who claim Christians are the only God chosen people while others are rejected is simply discrimination similar to racism and disgusting bigotry.
By the way you didn't answer my questions
Wat happens to glorious pagans before Christ who didn't have Yahweh's righteousness? Alexander, Julio Cesar, Cleopatra etc.
And wat happens to those after Christ who didn't know Christ? Your ancestors of let's say 4 generations ago? there is no other race in d world who are as unintelligent as africans,..we are the only race in the world that rejects our own culture and history to absorbed what other races dumped onto us without questioning.....some christians are so shockingly vociferous about their religion that u wondered despite their hypocrisy show on this foreign religion how majority of them are still confounding in poverty..... is their God blind despite all those stupid night vigils? |

Do u know that names don't matter in the spiritual realm? If u like pray in the name of poo, if u are sincere in the presence of Orisha oke he would bless u wit ur heart desire.
The woman's vision is common to any depressed and deluded individual. many have had visions of many Orisha especially when they are going through hard times like the woman.
Truly I tell you, if you pray/swear by Sango it works faster and more effective than Jesus. Many politicians swear by Jesus and Bible yet they steal from the nation freely without consequence, let's see how far if they start swearing by Sopona,Sango or Ogun u will be blessed uncountable times for this.. |
