Eriokanmi:
Simple and clear. The people's reaction to his death rumour recently is a clear proof that, should he die today, he's going to find it difficult to make heaven. How can the majority be in jubilation over the death of someone, a leader for that matter? If I were Tinubu, I'd be crying like a baby, seeing people react this way while he's still alive. He should just drop his political ambition and begin making things right with God by doing His work.

Please stop that thing you dey smoke not good for your health. Only online IPOD urchins like you are jubilating or did you see any jubilation on the streets of Lagos, Ibadan, Yenogoa, Kano or even Aba?

Autos / Toyota Group Tops Global Auto Sales In 2020 For 1st Time In 5 Years by Olubadan1(m): 11:05am On Jan 28, 2021
NAGOYA
Toyota Motor Corp group ranked top in global auto sales in 2020 for the first time in five years on a robust pickup in sales in China and the United States, overtaking Volkswagen AG of Germany, data showed Thursday.

Toyota said it sold 9.53 million units globally last year, including those sold by its group's mini-vehicle maker Daihatsu Motor Co and truck manufacturer Hino Motors Ltd, down 11.3 percent from a year earlier.

The Japanese auto giant, however, suffered less of an impact from the coronavirus pandemic than other carmakers.

Toyota's global annual sales logged their first decline in five years after they fell sharply in the April-June quarter due to the worldwide economic fallout caused by the pandemic.

However, they recovered in its main markets such as China and the United States from the fall, posting three consecutive months of increase from October, Toyota said.

A Toyota official said the company's aggressive sales strategy, which saw it roll out a series of new models, contributed to relatively solid sales in 2020 compared to other automakers.

"Our sales dropped from a year earlier amid the pandemic, but the decline was limited to some 10 percent level," the official said.

In 2020, Toyota group sold 2.16 million vehicles including minicars in Japan and 7.37 million in overseas markets, while producing a total of 9.21 million units worldwide, down 14.1 percent from the previous year.

Meanwhile, Volkswagen's global sales last year fell 15.2 percent to 9.31 million vehicles.

Total sales of the three-way alliance of Nissan Motor Co, Renault SA, and Mitsubishi Motors Corp, were 7.80 million units, due to its slower sales recovery in its main auto markets including the United States and Europe.

Combined auto sales by the eight major Japanese automakers sank 15.9 percent to 23.49 million vehicles, with all manufacturers posting a decline.

Science/Technology / Japanese Supercomputer Rated World's Fastest by Olubadan1(m): 2:20pm On Jun 23, 2020
A Japanese supercomputer has been declared the world's most powerful for the first time in nine years.

Fugaku, developed by the RIKEN research institute and electronics giant Fujitsu, took first place in a twice-yearly speed ranking that was announced by an international conference of experts on Monday.

The computer is installed at a facility in the city of Kobe, western Japan. It was being included in the world ranking for the first time.

Fugaku outperformed other supercomputers in four of six major categories, including computing speed.

It achieved more than 400 petaflops, or quadrillions of floating-point operations, per second.

That was about three times faster than the US supercomputer that ranked atop the previous list.

Fugaku also took the top spots in three other categories, measuring performance in computational methods for industrial use, artificial intelligence applications, and big data analytics.

RIKEN officials said that Fugaku demonstrated the world's best and most remarkable performance in the major categories. They expressed hope that Fugaku and its technologies will help resolve a range of social issues.

It is the first time a Japanese supercomputer has topped the global ranking since RIKEN's K supercomputer, the predecessor of Fugaku, in 2011.

Supercomputers developed in Japan and the United States dominated the list between 1993, when it first began, and June 2010. They included Japan's Earth Simulator, which held on to the number one spot from 2002 to 2004.

A Chinese supercomputer took the top position for the first time in November 2010, and China ranked number one for five straight years from 2013.

Health / Patients Flee From Isolation Centres In Oyo, Niger, Bauchi by Olubadan1(m): 5:59am On May 07, 2020
Two COVID-19 patients receiving treatment in Oyo State as well as one each in Niger and Bauchi states have fled from isolation centres.

Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde said the two people who ran away in the state tested positive to the deadly virus.

He said 975 samples had been collected for test. The governor said the two fleeing patients brought the number of active cases in the state to 31 instead of 33.

Makinde announced the escape of the patients while giving an update on the state’s COVID-19 figures in a series of tweets on his Twitter handle.

The tweet reads: “We have received more results from pending COVID-19 confirmation tests. The result of one suspected case came back positive on May 03, 2020. The person is based in Ibadan.

“The results of five suspected cases came back positive on May 04, 2020. Four of these five cases are immigrants and the last person is an Oyo State resident.
“The results of five suspected cases came back positive on May 05, 2020. Four of these five cases are travellers from the North and the last one is an Oyo State resident.
“Of the 33 active cases being managed by the state, two have absconded, possibly to their permanent places of residence. This brings the number of active cases in Oyo State to 31.”

The Niger State patient is a woman who absconded from the Minna isolation centre.

Health Commissioner Dr. Muhammed Makusidi spoke on Wednesday on the fleeing patient at a media briefing in Minna, the state capital.

He described the escapee as a confirmed case from Kano, saying efforts were being made to trace her whereabouts and bring her back to the centre.

The commissioner expressed fear over the danger she poses to the state if she is left to mingle with other residents.

In Bauchi, Deputy Governor Baba Tela, who is also the Chairman of the Task Force Response Committee on Lassa Fever and Coronavirus, confirmed the escape of the patient.

Health / BREAKING: Tinubu Reveals COVID-19 Test Result As Deceased Aide Tests Positive by Olubadan1(m): 3:00pm On Apr 27, 2020
Bola Tinubu, the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has tested negative for coronavirus.

Tinubu in a statement issued by his media office said he took the test following the death of his well-respected and beloved Chief Security Officer, Alhaji Lateef Raheem who tested positive for the virus.

“NCDC medics took the wise precaution of taking samples from his body for testing to actually determine the cause of death.

“Today, the test results are back. The samples tested positive for Covid-19.”

The APC Chieftain while warning that COVID-19 is real and a present threat revealed that one of his aides tested positive.

He said, “Those of us who discount it or claim it is a fabrication do a grave and dangerous disservice to the public well-being. Likewise, those who stigmatise people who may have been stricken by the virus also do a disservice by casting blame on the innocent and discouraging people from taking the COVID test. We cannot defeat this health menace through ignorance or by shaming one another. We can only beat it through transparency, knowledge and compassion. This, we have learned first-hand.

“As a precautionary measure taken soon after the death of Alhaji Raheem, His Excellency Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, his wife, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, and all their aides took COVID-19 tests Saturday, April 25. The results of the tests were returned this morning.

“Test results for both Asiwaju and Senator TInubu were negative.

“The result for one aide is positive, the rest of the staff were negative. The one staff member has been isolated in accordance with NCDC guidelines. Further contact tracing and COVID-19 tests are being conducted by the NCDC with regards to the relatives and possible contacts of that staff member.

He stressed that openness and transparency must be observed if we are to defeat this disease.

”There is no house immune to its entry. Contracting the virus should not bring social or moral stigma any more than contracting malaria or a common cold.

“We cannot overcome this challenge by acting like it does not exist or by trying to conceal that someone may have it due to social shame. The culture of denial is counterproductive and will do great harm in our current situation.

“We must do all we can to contain the spread of the virus and to treat those of us who have been hit by it.

“As you go about your day, we know you must find daily sustenance. Yet, please continue to do all you can to maintain social distance and to take all other public health measures to protect yourself and others. In this way, we all may contribute to halting the spread of this dangerous virus.”

Foreign Affairs / Coronavirus: Immigration To US To Be Suspended Amid Pandemic, Says Trump by Olubadan1(m): 5:30am On Apr 21, 2020
President Donald Trump has said he will sign an executive order to temporarily suspend all immigration to the US because of the coronavirus.

On Twitter, he cited "the attack from the invisible enemy", as he calls the virus, and the need to protect the jobs of Americans, but did not give details.

It was not clear what programmes might be affected and whether the president would be able to carry out the order.

Critics say the government is using the pandemic to crack down on immigration.

Mr Trump's announcement late on Monday comes as the White House also argues the worst of the pandemic is over and the country can begin reopening. The US has 782,159 confirmed cases of Covid-19 and 41,816 deaths.
The US has already agreed with both Canada and Mexico to extend border restrictions on non-essential travel until at least mid-May.

Travel has also been sharply restricted from Europe and China, though people with temporary work visas, students and business travellers are exempted.

It was not immediately clear who could be affected by Mr Trump's decision. The White House has not commented.

In recent weeks, emergency powers have been used to expel thousands of undocumented migrants on the US border with Mexico. The public health measure lets officials override immigration laws, expediting removal processes.

Health / Coronavirus: US To Halt Funding To WHO - Trump by Olubadan1(m): 11:48pm On Apr 14, 2020
US President Donald Trump has said he has instructed his administration to halt funding to the World Health Organization (WHO).

He said the WHO had "failed in its basic duty" in its response to the coronavirus outbreak.

He accused the UN body of not telling the truth about what was happening at the centre of the Chinese outbreak in the city of Wuhan.

Mr Trump has previously accused the WHO of being biased towards China.

The US president has himself come under criticism at home over his handling of the outbreak.

"I am directing my administration to halt funding while a review is conducted to access the World Health Organization's role in severely mismanaging and covering up the spread of the coronavirus," Mr Trump told a news conference at the White House.

"The WHO failed in its basic duty and it must be held accountable," he added.

Foreign Affairs / Japan Population Drops At Record Pace In 2019 by Olubadan1(m): 11:44am On Apr 14, 2020
Japan's population shrank at its fastest pace ever in 2019, with the number of people of working age dropping to a new low, government data showed Tuesday, reflecting the rapid aging of society and low birth rate.

The population fell 276,000 to 126.17 million as of Oct. 1, declining for the ninth straight year and recording the largest annual drop since comparable data became available in 1950, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications said.

The number of people between the ages of 15 and 64 was 75.07 million and accounted for 59.5 percent of the total, the lowest percentage on record for the working-age population.

The population in 40 of the country's 47 prefectures declined, while that in the remaining seven prefectures including Tokyo grew as the trend of people moving to urban areas continued.

There were 35.89 million people aged 65 or older, accounting for 28.4 percent of the total and renewing the previous year's record high. Of these, people aged 75 or older totaled 18.49 million, accounting for 14.7 percent, also an all-time high.

The population of those aged 14 or younger was 15.21 million, accounting for 12.1 percent of the total, a record low.
