Politics › How PDP Shared N11billion Made From Nomination Forms – Secondus by oluwaSmith1(op): 10:49am On Aug 07, 2015 |
The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday disclosed how the billions of Naira generated by the party during the last general elections was spent. The explanation followed allegations by workers at the secretariat that the National Working Committee (NWC) members shared the funds meant for the general election among themselves. Acting National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus, at a briefing at the secretariat in Abuja said the actual amount was not N12 billion but a little over N11b. The PDP leader said the money was realised from sale of nomination and expression of interest forms nationwide. According to him, “10 percent of the money went to the state chapters, five percent to the zonal chapters and another five percent to local government chapters of the party. “Another 15 percent was expended on assignments by various party functionaries and the rest was used to fund our campaigns. We raised money and we used the money for elections. We don’t need to go into details”. Speaking, Senate Minority Leader, Godswill Akpabio, who led the PDP Senate caucus to the briefing, said the PDP had not choice but reduce staff at the secretariat. Akpabio said: “We can no longer run to the Villa for cash, so we don’t have the wherewithal to maintain that large number of secretariat workers. “The workers should understand that they are in a master-servant relationship in which you cannot force an unwilling master to keep a recalcitrant servant. We are definitely going to downsize”. http://dailypost.ng/2015/08/07/how-pdp-shared-n11billion-made-from-nomination-forms-secondus/

Politics › Bayelsa Guber: Patience Jonathan Dumps PDP, Backs APC Candidate, Sylva by oluwaSmith1(op): 10:22am On Aug 07, 2015 |
Ahead of the December 5 governorship election in Bayelsa State, there are indications that the wife of the former president, Dame Patience Jonathan, has thrown her political weight behind the candidacy of Chief Timipre Sylva, the immediate past governor of the State. Sylva wants to contest the gubernatorial election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). It was gathered that in a meeting convened by Mrs. Jonathan recently, in Otuoke, she read the riot act to members of her group, asking them not to support the re-election of the incumbent governor, Hon Henry Seriake Dickson. Sun reports that the former First Lady prefers Dr. Weripamowei Dudafa, ex-presidential aide to the immediate past president, Goodluck Jonathan and Commissioner for Local Government under Sylva. It was gathered that Mrs. Jonathan directed members of her political group to support the aspiration of Sylva. According to those present during the meeting, when some persons reminded the First Lady that the former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan had openly declared support for Dickson, she told them that Jonathan won’t support Dickson when the chips are down. Among those who attended the meeting, it was learnt were a former acting governor of the state and chairman of the defunct Transformation Ambassadors of Nigeria (TAN) in Bayelsa State, Hon Werinipre Seibarugu, Dr. Dudafa; former Commissioners for Transport and Sports, Mrs. Marie Ebikake and Hon Ebikitin Diongoli, a female politician, Mrs. Remi Kuku and a host of others. http://dailypost.ng/2015/08/07/bayelsa-guber-patience-jonathan-dumps-pdp-backs-apc-candidate-sylva/

DONSMITH123: The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has finalized plans to declare former Executive Director of National Health Insurance Scheme, Olufemi Thomas, over a $2.1 million (about N413million) suspected money laundering case. A source at the commission said the EFCC has been on the trail of the former NHIS boss for weeks after a Bureau De Change operator, Ibiteye Bamidele, named him as the owner of a $2,198,900 cash, recovered from him by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency. Mr. Bamidele was arrested on July 3 at the Murtala Mohammed Airport, Lagos, by officials of the NDLEA. He was then handed over to the EFCC on July 8, for further investigation. After Mr. Bamidele named the health insurance boss as the owner of the money, all efforts by the anti-graft agency to locate Mr. Thomas has been futile. EFCC operatives, our source said, have combed every address associated with the suspect, including his known addresses in Lagos and Abuja. Efforts were also made to locate him at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital in Lagos but that was also not successful. The spokesperson for the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed the intensive search for Mr. Thomas, and the plan to declare him wanted. He also urged anyone with information on the whereabouts of Mr. Thomas to contact the commission or the nearest police station. Mr. Thomas was sacked as CEO of the NHIS on April 28, 2015 by then President Goodluck Jonathan and replaced by Olufemi Akingbade. The real reason for his sudden removal remained unknown. The NDLEA had intercepted Mr. Bamidele, the Bureau De Change operator, while he was carrying US$2,198,900 at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed Airport in Lagos. The suspect, 46, was apprehended on his way to Abuja, the NDLEA said. “Preliminary investigation conducted by the Assets and Financial Investigation Directorate of the NDLEA revealed that Ibiteye’s action is in contravention of the money laundering prohibition act 2011 as amended,” the anti-narcotics agency said in the statement by Mitchell Ofoyeju, its spokesperson. “He alleged that the money belongs to one Dr. Martins Olufemi Thomas, a medical practitioner in Lagos. Investigation conducted by the Agency did not link the money to proceeds of narcotics. “However, a country having insurgency challenge cannot afford to ignore suspicious movement of large amount of money.” In his statement to the NDLEA, before he was handed over to the EFCC, Mr. Ibiteye said that he is a Bureau De Change operator. “I used to work for Ebi Bureau De Change at the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja before I established my company with the name ND&C Global Investment Limited which is yet to be fully registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC),” he said. “One of my clients, Dr. Martins Olufemi Thomas gave me the said amount to take to Abuja. I was arrested by NDLEA officers while checking in the money at MM2 on my way to Abuja.” Ahmadu Giade, NDLEA Chairman, then handed over the suspect and the cash to the EFCC for further action.

DONSMITH123: One Amale Pius told an Abuja Grade 1 Area Court that he is ready to commit a suspected fake female corps member that allegedly carted away his over N1 million worth of properties to God.
The court struck out the case of the suspected 25-year-old woman, Anita Ubi Sani, following the withdrawal of the case by the nominal complainant on Tuesday. Anita Ubi Sani of Back of Cathedral Church, Wida, Abuja, was charged with joint act and theft, offences that contradict Sections 79 and 287 of the Penal Code. The Police prosecutor, Igono Icholi, had earlier told the court that the complainant, of Phase 2, Site 1, on February 3, reported at the Kubwa Police Station that the accused, with two others, presently at large, jointly in furtherance of a common intention, went to his apartment and carted away his properties worth N1, 505, 000 without his consent. He said the accused sold the items in an undisclosed place and converted the proceeds to her personal use. According to the prosecutor, the accused was arrested in a DSTV office in Bwari, where she was trying to recharge one of the stolen items, thereby causing him wrongful loss. When the case came up in court, the complainant requested that the case be withdrawn. He said he was touched by God to leave everything to Him.
The Judge, Mohammed Marafa, while striking out the case, asked the complainant to apply for the termination of the case citing his reasons.

Politics › Re: APC Kicks As Tribunal Upholds Aduda, Jisalo’s Elections by oluwaSmith1(m): 8:24am On Aug 06, 2015 |
DONSMITH123: The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has alleged bias in the judgment of the FCT elections petition tribunal, saying it is tired of “cooked judgment.”
An APC chieftain in the territory, Alhaji Musa Tanko Abari, said that the party would appeal the ruling in the upper court, adding: “The same tribunal chairman, who is from Ebonyi State, that dismissed my petition in 2011, when I contested under CPC for FCT senator, is still the same person that passed this judgment again, we are going to appeal the judgment.” The FCT Elections Petition Tribunal headed by Justice Ngene Elvis, Tuesday, upheld the elections of both Senator Philip Tanimu Aduda and House of Representatives member representing AMAC/Bwari Federal Constituency, Zaphaniyya Jisalo, who were elected on the platform of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the March 28 National Assembly elections. The tribunal, in its ruling, dismissed the petition filed by APC’s senatorial candidate, Adamu Sidi Ali, and House of Representatives candidate for AMAC/Bwari constituency, Isah Dara Bwari, for lack of merit. In the four-hour judgment, the tribunal dismissed the case for lacking in merit, saying Adamu Sidi Ali was unable to prove allegations of over-voting he claimed occurred in some polling units. The tribunal also dismissed the petition filed by Isah Dara Bwari, APC, saying that the witnesses he presented were unable to give evidence of irregularities in election. Counsel to the petitioner, Barrister Yakubu Haruna Gana, said he would consult with his client to know the next action to take. Reacting, counsel to the PDP, Chief Karina Tunya (SAN), commended the tribunal for delivering sound and clear judgment, saying the judgment has proven that his clients won the senatorial and House of Representatives elections. Sidi Ali and Isah Dara had taken Aduda and Zaphaniyya to the National Assembly Elections Petition Tribunal in FCT, alleging irregularities in the conduct of the elections on March 28, 2015.
