DeLaRue: Great.
The stress the petrol marketers unleashed on Nigeria in the last 10 years or so is unforgettable. Anything to disrupt their greed and stranglehold on long suffering motorists is welcome.
I hope someone will do same thing in other sectors.
Imagine rice that was sold last month for around N70,000 per bag has been hijacked by marketers mopping rice from markets to store only to start selling the same thing for N100,000 after they created the scarcity.
A supplement sold on Amazon for $11 is sold on Jumia for N34,000. How? Pure greed everywhere.
And then they turn around to blame the government. The middlemen and some governors have always been the challenge. |

Kdamilola: Nigerians may not directly eat soybeans, but soybean meal (SBM) is the most important protein source for the poultry industry. It's drastic increase in price, coupled with price of maize, is one of the biggest contributor to current high cost of chicken production.
Also, it's a good source of agricultural export. Brazil generated about US$ 53 billion in 2023 while the United States generated about US$ 27 billion. Nigerians total export in the same year was about US$ 65 billion, app. 70% of which was from crude oil. If we could diversify into this, then, we've got ourselves an increase in export revenue.
Well, it's all hinged on if it works anyway. Nothing ever works. Hopefully, this goes through. I'm very sure it's being cultivated only to be exported...as long as the country pleases the international community, its citizens can to hell |
