This thread is a classic! like someone mentioned earlier what is the way forward for ndi igbo? I've always wondered why nigeria isn't as developed as south africa, now i know better. |
am not surprised, there was controversy surrounding his certificates even before he contested the election, it was said then that he dropped out of primary school. hope they kick him out imo deserves better. |
He was my vc too, so sad. Just because he was an active pdp member doesnt mean he rigged. Pls mind ur comments. |
Omenala = Traditional rites (i.e tradition of the land). |
Yeah and am sure if hitler was a nigerian muslim from the north he too would also be seen as a hero today! |
@ Only truth, your in order! I will abide by your decision. Am in owerri now and we are already getting our biafran flags ready! |
Good move, but i suggest Why dont we open only one single thread on that day and call it a condolence registar/order of funeral service? Let all easterners, friends and supporters of biafra visit the thread to sympathise with us, drop words of wisdom, igbo proverbs i.e ilulu. We can also include ojukwu's memorable quotes from yesteryears. And if theres a live tv coverage of his burial, it should be relayed here on nl minute by minute info, with pictures, links etc. |
I wonder why the jtf didnt apply this method in the niger delta(gbamaratu, odi etc), if it was in the south south, by now a whole community would have been raised to the ground. Why should some cases in some regions be treated with kid gloves and others in the south with brute force?! |
Tuesday 25 oct 2011, was a sad day for residents of adaloko road afromedia ajangbadi Lagos, when it was learnt that a barber popularly known as henry died a few days after he was hit on the chest with a magical ring. Trouble started when henry who also doubles as an okada rider, was driving his bike entered into an argument with the local indigens (task force) popularly known as 'omonile' he was said to have splashed water on one of them, a fight ensued and several of them were said to have teamed up to attack him by witnesses, unable to overpower him one of the omonile's who was being bested by henry, ran home and returned with a magical ring with which he used to hit the barber on the chest, causing him to slump instantly, the others fled the scene. Henry was rushed to a private hospital by the police and sympathisers but was referred to LUTH, after a few days there still was no improvement, he could hardly talk or walk. On advice from doctors, he was then taken to The Lords Chosen church, where he remained until he gave up the ghost. Henry was an indigen of Ihiagwa, owerri-west Imo state, he was survived by a pregnant wife and two children. The suspects are still at large. |
This is a very powerful message that reflects what we are still experiencing today. It should be passed on and even studied religiously like the holygrail, @ the op, thanks alot! I've booked marked it. |
If he doesnt sue them after he's released then i'll know his lawyers have only been buying time, since they've remained suspiciously silent, i can only guess buttons are being pressed to see if he can escape his predicament. |
Like someone said earlier, Emeka Anyaoku would make a very good candidate for 2015 elections. The Ohaneze is in order, i support thier non confrontational stance, MASSOB needs to re-invent themselves to suit the general needs and aspirations of the average igbo man, if possible change thier name and remain unconfrontational(though arm themselves so incase when the shit hits the fan, they'll be prepared). |
@ Nda Abagoro, ee mena! Yes We are trying not to make the same mistakes as the ikwerres, Aba and Onitsha people etc. But now our youths are seriously pressuring the elders to release farmlands for sale. Some families in my village have sold almost all thier land, the question we are asking ourselves is if we sell all now when our children grow up where will they build? As of now there are people from the main Owerri municipal who have to go to the outskirts to buy land cause thier fathers left non for them. Another thing that i'm proud of in Owerri are the kind of houses and hostels being built, for as low as 40 grand you can get a self contain apartment/flat wit detachable silver shower head, tiled floor, designer iron doors, dstv connection, steady water supply, its just as though the landlords in Owerri are in silent competition with themselves, even phcn gives relatively steady power supply to most parts of Owerri than Lagos! The previous environmental agency was very strict on matters on drainage, building a house without proper drainage attracts thier wrath. Its difficult to find a face me i face you kind house looking like the ones you find in Lagos. I just hope Rochas will continue to develope the city. And stick to Sam Mbakwe's master plan. |
@ beaf, the former governor Ohakim employed sweepers for the roads but Rochas on assuming office sacked them, maybe because it was rumoured that the private company handling the cleaning of owerri is owned by ohakim. @ onlytruth, if you travel along owerri-portharcourt road you'll find towns like umuguma, avu, oforola, obosima, obinze etc these are all on the outskirts(10 km) of owerri and our land was taken(compensated) and planned long ago by previous governments, in some areas of avu where futo lecturers live you can get for about 400 grand, while closer to the express is about 1million, per plot. You need to see the kind of houses being built in some of these areas i mentioned and you would be speechless! President jonathan awarded a contract to expand the express leading to portharcourt so There is a rush now so you better hurry! Avu is the best place to buy land now due to its peaceful and accommodating nature, 50% of the people living in avu are non indigens, most of the corpers, policemen and soldiers who live there have refused to leave, i know some military men and civil servants who now claim imo as thier state of origin cause they've fallen in love with the place even Kanu Nwankwo did the same. My people are not business inclined, mostly farmers and like merryment and alcohol. And you need to see owerri ladies, you'll know that Muna is just a tip of the iceberg.@ beaf, the former governor Ohakim employed sweepers for the roads but Rochas on assuming office sacked them, maybe because it was rumoured that the private company handling the cleaning of owerri is owned by ohakim. Governor Rotimi Amaechi was a beneficiary of a similar kind of judgment, and we were all happy for him. I think all parties should get thier internal politics right, after all it was late President Yaradua who encouraged due process. |
Nigeria is divided, and a huge 100 ft wall is built from end to end with rabid pitbulls, only educated northerners with visa's are allowed into the south! And we discover that dangote, obj and gej were all igbos all along just playing safe ! |
I used to ask my dad how come someone like murtala has an airport named after him when he is responsible for the death of his fellow comrades in arms and civilians at that same airport! It beats me silly, i wonder what went wrong, is it that Nigerians are totally devoid of common sense? Here we have some nairalanders trying to justify genocide in this present day. @ op, yes i want his face removed from the naira, and replaced wit the pictures of the corpers who lost thier lives in the post election violence! |
Am suprised you guys haven't figured this out yet, bokoharam is simply sending out a clear message, that is 'WE DONT WANT PEACE!'. There are no factions, they are simply on a jihad mission where there is no turning back, any talk of peace warrants death! The same thing applies to all bokoharam members and northern muslims. |
Lagos again! we havent gotten over ikufuruji's saga another one has reared its ugly head, well they say trouble comes in three's, i wonder who's next? |
Its a pity that al mustapha has just provided the ammo for bashing from bigots for the next few days, Notwithstanding Lets not lose focus of what we should demand. Al mustapha has to name those involved, and the govt should expose the conspiracy surrounding Abiola's death. |
@ Arosa, i wonder o, imagine a whole sultan reasoning like this, after some will say we should remain in the same country with this cows. |
There has been alot of controversy and arguments on the proposed Islamic banking in Nigeria. I recently decided to research this issue and i came up with quite some shocking discoveries. Does anyone know that even the Saudi Arabian Central Bank that supposed to be the most sharia compliant in the world pays and recieves interest rates on its currency and on bond trades and even fixes interest rates for other Saudi banks?! The Alahli,(The biggest bank in Saudi Arabia) that has branches in the holiest cities of Mecca and Medina charges 22.8% on its credit cards. In the UK the average rate is 15.5%. Why then is Sanusi so eager and bent on promoting Islamic banking in Nigeria? He and other supporters of his cause i.e Chief Lateef Adegbite claim this mode of banking would be of assistance to the poor, let us not forget so soon what happened in the year 2000 when some northern states were about to adopt sharia, they packaged it as an antidote to corruption and guarantor of crime-free existence. It is now 11years since then, has that happened? Are Nigerian Islamic banks more holier than those in Saudi Arabia? Why must we always be hypocrites? Islamic banking has its advantages agreed, but the motive of its proponents is suspicious to me, what has Sanusi and other Nigerian muslims done to help the plight of the poor in thier respective regions? Are there no other forms of banking(non interest or low interest) that can be beneficial to all Nigerians irrespective of thier religions? Must it be given a religious undertone? Believe it or not Sanusi and co have a hidden agenda which is not guite clear to Nigerians now, but notwithstanding we must be vigilant and watch as events unfold. |
Its a pity each time i read accounts of the events before and after the war i go numb. Lessons learned in blood are not easily forgotten, so it beats me silly why we have allowed murderers and coup plotters to rule us for so long. And even put the face of a brutal murderer on our 20 naira note. No one should ask why, or blame the igbos for hating northerners, for "there can be no love where there has been blood". |
Right now i'm in imo state at i'm from a neighbouring town, that shares a border with ohaji, and i can give you facts, about this issue. The truth is that fulani herdsmen raped and killed a woman, she was butchered and cut into pieces, this led to a fight with the villagers which caused an increase in the number of casualties. Right now the fight is still going on, to an extent that the deputy governor of Imo state had to visit the village to try and restore calm. The full details as to the number of casualties and on whose side, has not been confirmed yet. The fulani herdsmen are fond of attacking and raping women in farms, very few cases are reported. And for your information Avu, Oforola, Amafu and Ohaji youths have been killing hausa-fulani over the past years for various reasons, though i do not support thier actions 100%, let me assure you all that we are not cowards. I am speaking as a witness who has seen the dead body of a hausa-fulani who was murdered by some youths in my village. Though the reason for his murder was not clear, i guess he must have over stepped his boundary cos my people are very hospitable. Ask anybody from Avu, Ohaji, Egbema and they'll confirm this. I'll keep you posted as events unfold cos its obvious the newspaper people got it all wrong! |
@ ovamboland and simplymee, you guys just read my mind. I posted this same topic in the islamic section and untill now no one has replied/reacted to my post, this shows there is something seriously wrong. Human rights or the constitution means nothing to them. Keeping silent only affirms the fact that they are in support of this evil. |
omenala : DAILY SUN Monday, July 4 , 2011 Iran: Court overturns death sentence for christian pastor. Iran's supreme court has overturned a death sentence handed down to Yusef Nadakhani, a Christian pastor accused of apostasy for having converted from Islam, his lawyer told AFP on sunday, "The supreme court has annuled the death sentence and sent the case back to the court in Rasht(his hometown), asking the accused to repent," Mohammad Ali Dadkhah said. Nadarkhani, now 32 , converted from Islam to Christianity at the age of 19 and became a pastor of a small evangelical community called the church of Iran. He was arrested in October 2009 and condemned to death for apostasy under Iran's Islamic Sharia laws, which however allow for such verdicts to be overturned if the convicted person "repents" and renounces his conversion. After his conviction was upheld by an appeal court in Gilan province in September 2010 , Nadarkhani turned to the supreme court. His wife, who was initially sentenced to life imprisonment, was released on appeal. benodic : @ poster so what does the moslems have to say about this report? i am all ears. Hambolaj01 : Whao omenala : This simply proves that there can be no freedom of worship when a society employs islamic law(sharia law). Lets face the truth, If northern nigerian states embrace sharia law a similar incident is bound to occur. |

@ Jimmysho, u just said my mind. Yet northern muslims claim Islam is a religion of peace. When i was serving as a corper in the north we(corpers) couldn't consume alcohol in public, we had to travel to neighbouring christian villages to drink, and even when we drink at home we had to be discreete to avoid the wrath of the villagers. And yet this country is for all of us. |

This simply shows that islamic law(sharia) is intolerant of other religions. If sharia were allowed to exist in all the northern states of Nigeria will there be freedom of worship for other beliefs? How are we sure that those who choose to convert to Christianity wont be unlawfuly arrested and sentenced to death? Lets tell ourselves the truth on nairaland! Can sharia exist peacefuly in Nigeria without clashing with our constitution and impeding on the rights of individuals?!. |
@ cowboy texaspete, you can discuss this issue till the end of time and Poo wont change. @ Nairalanders, enough talk, this is the time for action, i wish i could printout jamalah's post, translate it to hausa, arabic or any Godforsaken language they understand, then take it back with me to plateau state/the whole northern region and force it down the throats of all northern muslims. The op should try to have it published in the dailies! Education will not completely solve the problem in the north. Justice is the solution to all the problems we're facing in the north and other parts of the country. If northerners are properly dealt with by the law, each time they go berserk, this problem would have long ceased, but the same people who perpetrate this evil will be the ones calling for one nigeria and yet defending the criminality in the name of religion. Enough talk on nairaland, we dont want no peace, we dont want to forgive and forget. What we want is justice, for akaluka and other innocent souls that have been wasted in that region of the country or we split, period! |
Arrant nonsense! They deserve to be wiped out. Where are the northern nairalanders? I'll like to here what alh harem, namfav, mai woteva and of course that crack head called blazay have to say. Thank God yaradua was in power when thier leader was sent to hell, if not these morons would be blaming jonathan and calling for his head too. |
