Those ones that take time are the ones one should be worried about. . . .

The instant hits often leave indelible marks that last a generation.

Ronaldo on his debut against Bolton, Wayne Rooney against Besiktas or was it Fernebache.

Yorke started slow, ended slow as did countless others.

There are 2 misconceptions: that what we are witnessing is a paradigm ideological shift and that free market economists never countenanced priming up aggregate demand in the event of economic crises.

I guess the fault lies with the conflation of Keynes and Keynesianism rather than the validity of his theory.

On the other hand, I find it hard to imagine Hayek is lying still in his grave at the moment.

The US. economy is not going to fall apart.
Listen the US currency right now should be in shambles due to the sub-prime mortgage crises which is the root cause of the US recession, not oil.

But it is not because the US being the US just creates inflation tax, by producing US treasury bills and keeping there currency high.
The moral of the story is that the US should be in shambles but the the world still just in them and the greenback. They will still remain the power.

Just think about the repercussions if their biggest trading partner China wanted to move into the number one spot?

Things might look really gloomy in the immediate short term,
say for the next two quarters, but I expect the recovery to
be just as rapid if not more so.

Everything hinges on how quickly the American economy recovers
of course, and with all the money that has been thrown into the
economy to tackle first the credit crisis, and latterly as well as in future to
stimulate the economy, I am optimistic the American economy will
have a huge rebound.

The fact is, there is still a lot of money slushing around the world, especially
in the Middle East and other sovereign wealth funds around the world, and
once the apetite for risk returns, high yielding assets and high yielding economies
like Nigeria will suffer a deluge.

So a bit of belt tightening for the next few quarters and the good times will roll again.

SportsAre The Media To Blame For The High Turnover In Football Management? by omitutu(op): 1:56pm On Dec 06, 2008
As Fergie recently noted in an interview, the football manager job
is quite a precarious position in the premier league era. Following
the resignation of Roy Keane, 15 games into the season, and less than
three seasons on the job, he waxed nostalgic for an era where he honed
his art, when it was the norm for a manager to spend close to a decade at
a club.

So what is responsible for this state of affairs?

The embattled Blackburn manager Paul Ince, argues it is the fault of the media.
Perhaps in the hope for a story, or perhaps the flexing of media power, Ince and
many others before him have castigated the press for unsettling club faithfuls, whether
it be at board level or on the terraces.

Do you chaps agree??

Lucabrasi and Kobojunkie

Frankly, I think both of you are on different sides of the same track,
but nonetheless on the wrong track.

You both argue for a bottom up development of Nigeria, a movement
of the masses to emancipate themselves. Where you both depart is
on which of the masses(a bifurcation entirely of both your doing in relation
to this argument) should be at the vanguard of such a change.
Lucabrasi thinks the diaspora should do a lot more as he contests the
Chinese did, while Kobojunkie is all out for local mass self mobilisation.

Both your arguments would be validated, if a masses-influenced explanation
of development can be substantiated. And even the anecdotal evidence does not
support such a view of development.

Take for example China. I do not understand how the economic story is even fractionally
explainable from a diasporic perspective. It is more than mere coincidence that the rapid
economic develpment in China had its genesis in the general reorientation of the leadership
in China after Mao's death and the emergence of Deng Xiaoping as leader.

The disingenuity of China as an example is further compounded when you consider the nature of politics
in China, as it is dominated by the Communist party. Power primarily lies in the hands of a small cadre who
direct economic policy, to disastrous effect under Mao and to miraculous proportions since Mao. If anything,
the Chinese case highlights the helplessness of the so called masses in the face of a recalcitrant elite.

So, any solutions pertaining to development must be approached top down in my opinion. . . . .Any suggestions grin grin

PoliticsObama's Appointments And The Lessons For Nigeria's ''new Guard'' by omitutu(op): 1:15pm On Dec 06, 2008
The left wing have been up in arms so far with every new Obama appointment.
Obama was elected on a clear mandate of change, with the hope the old
guard would be swept away on his election, and subsequently the dissolution of
the pall of partisanship that has clouded Washington the past eight years of the
Bush presidency.

The appointment most notably of Hilary Clinton as Secretary of State, the most
high profile Cabinet post, as well as the appointment of prominent Clintonites to
other Cabinet or White house positions has shattered the expectations of not a
few election cycle Obama supporters, who took the Obama mantra for change quite
literally.

But Obama himself has defended his appointments, arguing it is impossible
to rule without the aid of insiders who understand the machinations of Washington.
Such people will better implement his ''change'' policies, better than a Washington
neophyte ever would, whether it be working with Congress to pass legislation or
maneouvering through the bottlenecks of the civil service bureaucracy. Essentially,
loathe them or hate them, the old guard is needed to get things done.

I am especially interested in the implications of this mindset as it applies to the Nigerian
polity. A complaint often heard, especially amongst the so called 'youths', centres on the recycling
of the same old faces responsible for the deplorable state of affairs in Nigeria. Whether it be
those shirking military regalia for the agbada or simply scions of the old guard further cementing
the legacies of their parents.

But surely, there enough parallels to be drawn between the American and Nigerian polity making these
complaints redundant, that is if we apply the Obama rationale. Needless to say, the Nigerian state from
all manner of perspectives is a practical bottleneck. The ethnic minefields, the clash of religions in the North,
the vagaries of geography, the disparities in income and distribution of wealth, the disputes over population
all make ruling the Nigerian state at the bare minimum a daunting challenge, and I would argue, moreso than
leading America.

In the face of these challenges, it would seem superfluous, this argument for the installation of a new guard.
Do we really expect the untried and untested to handle reins laced with such danger? I guess the counter
argument is, hardly anything gets done anyway, and surely a new direction can hardly be worse than this. True
true. Perhaps someone should point that out to Obama as America faces the most '' daunting economic problems
in our history'' tongue tongue

SportsRe: Nba Season '08/09 by omitutu: 11:54am On Dec 06, 2008
Come on guys. . . . .

Why y'all dissing Dirk like this.

I will take Nowitzki over Howard, for now that is. Howard is a
better defender, yes, but his advantage on defence cannot
make up for the advantage Dirk has on offence.

Unlike Rasheed for example, Dirk has a legit inside outside game.
Drive past a big man, or post up against smaller guys.

Howard's offensive game can be downright ugly, as the Pistons showed
in the playoffs last season. His hook shots have no polish, and he wasn't
even able to dominate Jason Maxiell shocked shocked who is almost 5 inches shorter.

Compared with KG, well, I don't think any team would go wrong having either
of the two, although KG would prolly be my choice for his defence, and they are
places on the floor where he is money on the offense.

Chris Bosh, I am liking the more. But he is not the threat from the outside that Dirk
is, neither is he that better a defender.

I mean we could go on and on, but to say Dirk is shyte is far far from the truth.

@A-40

Jason Kidd has never been the prolific scorer wherever he's been.

His primary qualities are in the 'floor general' mode, dishing assists, running
the fast break and, although less in recent years, shutting down the opposing
point guard.

debosky:
Unfortunately this is common in a lot of young couples - you date someone for the attraction, the chemistry, the increased heart rate when you're around them. But often times, you don't get to do other things except boyfriend and girlfriend stuff - dates, romantic dinners and the like.

most of the time, before meeting this 'special someone' you have friends who you've grown together and share interests with - those ones are the ones that truly know you and share your heart.

Sometimes we get lucky and find that person who is already relatively in sync, or we date people we've been friends with first, so the 'normal hanging out' part is already there. In those cases, it's not an issue.

Many times though, the person who drives you crazy is not too crazy about the things you like - after the initial passion dies down, these differences become more evident and break ups usually occur and we wonder 'why did he leave me or why did she leave me? we were so in love'.

relationships are hard work, both parties need to make sure their partners are their very good friends, even if not best friends, and that they share similar passions even if they have others that are not shared. Most importantly, you need to TRY.

One of my gfs LOVED to watch next top model, and it would make me want to break something, but I gritted my teeth and watched it with her, and she appreciated it. Make an effort and you'll reap the benefits later on.
Now why can't I ever write posts like this. . . .
