On redstar, after its meteoric rise since listing, it went into a trading range around the N8 mark and has been rising again in the last week or so. Now, the candle stick pattern as far as i see it still shows very short days generally speaking, with declining volume.

i am undecided on this one, it is too thinly traded. lets talk tomorrow.

i am being cautious on this one although the RSI and MACD and macd histogram are not bad.

Got this market update in the post today. I guess this backs up the opinions of Pumping and Windywendy a few posts back.

Afribank plc gears towards a superb year end

With barely two months to the end of the current financial year of Afribank Plc, indices from the results and information
on ground all point to one definite conclusion: a bumper end of year result.

In its just concluded public offer in late 2007, the bank made a profit before tax projection of N12.07 billion with a
dividend payout amounting to N6.07 billion. The bank as at the end of its third quarter ended December 31, 2007
had already reached the set target for the full year.

In its third quarter result, it would be recalled that the bank had a pre-tax profit of N11.04 billion which was far
above more that what was projected in the offer prospectus. Based on this and the availability of funds to the bank as
a result of the successful offer, the financial institution might be hitting the N15 billion marks when its financial year
ends in March 2008.

Most investors would want to start taking positions now ahead of a bountiful year as the countdown
to March 31, 2008 has almost begun. The price of the company stock stood at N26.33 at the close of trading on February 15, 2008.

All: Cashcraft don com again o shocked shocked shocked

Just got info from a friend, whose close friend got conned by a cash-crafty rep. She unfortunately is a novice. The rep Uju went to her office telling her to buy either Afroil, First Aluminum or Unity bank. She choose Unity but was told to look at the price appreciation from N2 to N12, hence a better option. Her ordered 300kg and the stock has been losing serious weight since she bought. She's been trying to reach the Uju (Oju Ole(thief)), but she is no longer reachable.

Blueband protect ya sef well well o, before yawa gas. Yes I do have an account with Cashcraft, but this is somewhat manageable, simply because I have made my account officer my friend. The downside is that she still has to operate under the lousy ethics. I was this close to signing their death warrant last year owing to their dubious practices, but a good friend dissuaded me from doing this, coupled with the fact that they would use my account officer as the scape goat ( I couldn't have that).

Last year they didn't trade for about 2 days, why? They were under investigation by the SEC and therefore not allowed to trade. But most of their clients are none the wiser simply because they would be told they could find the stock to buy or impossible to sell!

This year something similar happened. Someone was trying to hide money in stocks with them but the SEC once again stepped in. Stopped them from trading for 1 day.

Since last year they have been experiencing server problems, I'm surprised how long its taken many to notice problems with logging into their account.

One thing is certain from my experiences Cashcraft has some crooked elements in their midst (management/employee), but as this is Naija, this is not so unusual since its a man no man business.

Another thing to be aware of which Napolean has somewhat highlighted, is the fact that most of our brokers are looking out for number 1.

We all need to realise that we are actually in competition with most of these brokers, judging by the experiences we've all had huh embarassed cry sad

When you place an order for a stock they also want, you can be certain their order gets filled first. We are considered last (except in some instances where you have a good relationship with your account officer, who can sometimes influence situations on your behalf).

We all know that buy or sell our brokers make a profit! Better still for them if you hold a stock they want from you. You can be certain that stock will lose so much that their advice is for you to sell at a loss, while they buy at a profit from you and still collect their bonus commission for doing so. I recall reading on this thread where someone got his broker to take off N1m worth of unwanted stock from his account. So who is the unfortunate guy that got this weight dumped on their lap huh Someone has to bear the brunt and it sure ain't the broker (you can bet your last dollar on this).

nuff said wink

We have two classes of forecasters: Those who don't know--and those who don't know they don't know!

February is one of the peculiarly dangerous months to speculate in stocks. The others are July, January, September, April, November, May, March, June, December, August and October!

To All People Interested in CICOs: (especially newbies)

Highly essential to successful trades:

* Good broker:
This is the key ingredient to your successful trades. You need to be able to contact your broker by Phone (mobile and landline), Email, Text messaging and a subsequent contact in case of absence. All the methods indicated are essential. There is greater chance of error without all methods. One will invariably fail and the backup has to be immediate and effective.

To further elaborate, Once you have successfully placed your order, you need verification whether the sale went through or not. Your broker should have a means of contacting you about your buy/sell orders without you having to chase them for this information. If this is not in place, how will you plan for your next order if you don't know the status of the existing one? What is the point of all your research and analysis only to find its pointless owing to an ineffective broker?

Let the gurus in da house please add their contribution

Purely CICO! I've taken position already and will be taking more this week. There are rumors of an impending PO and infact, the linchpins at the helm have started touting the PO, which according to them should happen this quarter. Why Omoyeni was removed – Wema boss
By Ayo Olesin
Published: Monday, 4 Feb 2008

The sidelined Group Managing Director, Wema Bank Plc, Mr. Adebisi Omoyeni, was compelled to proceed on compulsory leave because he denied examiners from the Central Bank of Nigeria and the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation access to the bank’s books, the new helmsman, Mr. John Aboh, has said.

In the first official confirmation of the circumstances that led to the exit of Omoyeni, Aboh, who was appointed Acting Group Managing Director by the CBN about two weeks ago, said at his maiden news conference in Lagos on Friday that the GMD was removed “because he was perceived to be obstructing free access to records.”

Aboh, however, tried to douse concerns over the health of the bank, stressing that its fundamentals and financials were basically sound.

He said the bank was well within the prescribed minimum capital and liquidity adequacy ratios and routinely met its clearing obligations.

Aboh said that his mandate was to stabilise the bank, ensure that proper management was restored and resolve all corporate governance issues, while the ongoing re-examination of the bank lasted.

He also denied speculations that the bank’s board had been sacked, pointing out that the report of the on-going examination of the bank would be presented to the board on conclusion to enable it take decisions on the next steps forward.

Aboh also put to rest speculations that he was planning to retrench some of the bank’s staff who had been divided into camps for and against the GMD, who was accused of running the 62-year old institution like a personal fiefdom in his two years in the saddle.

He also expressed concern about recent media reports about the bank, which he said, could trigger a systemic failure, pointing out that the entire banking system was inter-linked.

Aboh, who until his present appointment, was Executive Director at First Bank of Nigeria Plc, said that with Wema Bank’s planned public offering was on course, but maintained that the board would decide whether or not to retain the timing, depending on the outcome of current investigations.

He also responded to questions on the alleged role of a former Wema Bank MD, Mr. Tunde Lemo, who is now Deputy Governor, Financial Sector Surveillance, CBN, in the goings on in the bank.

According to him, Lemo’s role is to ensure that the banking system is safe and sound, not particularly at Wema, and that his interest is not different from that of the CBN Governor or other deputy governors.

On Omoyeni’s fate, he said, “If there is any wrong doing, it will be based on hard evidence.”

Omoyeni and the bank’s Head of Financial Control, Mrs. Yinka Onifade, were sent on compulsory leave on January 18, following a deluge of petitions from staff and other stakeholders bordering on “serial breaches of prudential guidelines,” that flooded the CBN and NDIC.

Some of the issues in the examiners will look at, it was learnt, include the mode of sale of Wema Bank shares previously held by the Odua Group; loans administration procedure; contracts award processes; purchase of official vehicles; and a controversial housing grant awarded the GMD.

It was gathered that the examiners would also look at the bank’s transactions with former governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Ayo Fayose, who is currently standing trial on corruption charges.

Omoyeni served as Deputy Governor of Ekiti State under Fayose for three months in 2005.

It was also learnt that some members of staff had accused the GMD of “ethnic cleansing” by appointing Ekiti State indigenes to top positions, mostly head of departments in the bank.

Bank PHB moves into mortgage retail market - The Guardian

LANDLORDS with good titles to their property in prime areas of Lagos, Abuja and Port Harcourt and other major cities of Nigeria are now enjoying an alternative cash facility from Bank PHB using their properties as bait. Bank PHB has given them an opportunity to convert part of their fixed assets to liquid cash to meet their financial needs.

Bank PHB "House Owners Advantage" is an innovative financial product through which property owners can borrow money against part of the value of their property. Speaking recently on the product, Francis Atuche, MD/CEO of Bank PHB said with the product from the bank, "Every Man's home is his pot of Gold."

Speaking further, Atuche disclosed that Bank PHB is leading Nigerians "into another frontier of that promise of good life by bringing an innovative and ground-breaking product. This product offers tremendous wealth creating opportunities for our customers as well as potential customers.

" Many Nigerian banks are making forays into the retail mortgage market having suddenly realised a fact we understood many years ago. For those, who do not know, we were among the first to acquire licenses as Primary Mortgage Institution when we set up Finacorp Building Society Limited. And as masters of the game, we have decided to chart a new course by introducing the Bank PHB "House Owners Advantage."

Explaining further, Atuche said, "House Owners Advantage" is different from mortgage financing, in the sense that it allows those, who own their homes and have legal titles to it, to raise finance out of their property for a fixed period. The finance they have raised can then be used by them to buy new assets or create new investments, grow their wealth and have an even better life."

He advised that it is not financially wise for many Nigerians to own homes and yet remained poor and illiquid. "Bank PHB House Owners Advantage hopes to make those homes more than mere castles. We want those homes to become veritable pots of gold. We want your homes to take care of you." Atuche said.

" What we are offering you in effect is an invaluable opportunity and a lasting solution to problems associated with wealth creation. By allowing you mortgage your own home, we are letting you as they say, eat your cake and still have it by helping you to release wealth tied down on fixed residential assets. By making illiquid assets liquid, Bank PHB is once again empowering you to make new investments in the form of stocks, start a new business venture or even if you so desire, build a new house."

For individuals that desire to benefit from the facility, Atuche revealed that all they need is a house with verifiable legal titles in a select suburb in Abuja, Lagos, Port Harcourt and other major state capitals of the country. The borrower's location whether in Nigeria or abroad and whether they are self-employed or salary earner does not matter. "The most important fact is that you do not have to contribute a single naira to access the refinancing facility of up to N150m."

The Bank PHB "House Owners Advantage" finance is just one of the several products from the Bank PHB stable. Recently the bank rolled out a series of Value Added services that can be obtained from the bank's ATM machines located in strategic branches all over the country.

The bank has successfully implemented the Value Added services of Inter Switch on all its ATM channels across the country.
