The is one of the annoying part of this business, nah this kind trip dey spoil car shocks, if the trip come get 50% discount nah one dey pain pass come kill morale join

One painful experience years back like 2019, I won't forget was day i carried 3 hefty guys and 1 lady from ShopRite Alausa to Lagos Island with foodstuffs and provisions in large quantity, 2bag of rice, big gallons of grannutdoil.

When I got their to destination and ended the trip, I was crying on the inside. App showed: collect ₦1600 Bolt will compensate you the remaining ₦1200.

Since then excess passenger or excess luggage is not my kind of trip anymore, I do not waste time to cancel and decline that kind of trip

How I can carry 4 people and heavy items in my Booth and be paid ₦1600 on a journey of 25Km and 1hour 15mins. It's demoralising and enslaving, even detrimental to my car. Yellow taxi will not take nothing less than ₦5000 on this trip.

Some drivers who do useless unprofitable trip like this don't maintain and repair cars. They do not know what cost of maintenance is all about.

I took a ride to pasporr ofdice ikeja this morning so I decided to go to Mobil filling station to buy fuel. Afyer buying fuel I got a request to Awolowo way ikeja and the rider was calling to direction so I moved towards coca cola but the map was directing backwards omo na so I turn backwards towards Addas Mall on getting to the traffic light at that Mobile filling station junction tue light turned amber color I didn't want to beat tye light because those police are always around that axis so I break and my two front tires passed the white stop line so the line was inbtw my my front and back tires.

I was waiting for the light to turn green again when rider started calling again and tyen I saw a taskforce van parking in front of me, waiting happen again now I thought to my self.

Two of those SDC abi na CDS guys in uniform walked towards me asking me to wine down, I wine down a little for the one by the right and was askinh him what happened.

He said I passed the white line i should open my doors... I refused... The one on the left was gingering I should open my door I still refused b4 I knew it he when to carry that their spike and waige my tire and ask the other guy to come hold it.

Chai! In my mind i was like which kind wahala b dis this early morning so... Just 2days ago I spent 20k revamping my suspension and filling my shock absorbers me wey broke according to johnchrix

The guy went again and bri g that tire clip and clamp my tire again... B4 you knew it big towing van d9n show... Ha! I don enter this one today!!!

Omo i just unlock my car started shouting to them never to tow my car oooh they wanted to put their chain i moved backward a little, one qas shouting you go spoil your tire oooh... Me, no tow my car ooh... Na so them come enter we clear enter that CMD road... Started negotiating...

Me: 5k dey my wife account but I will need to wait for my friend to send me the 5k to make it 10k.
Okay we go park the car inside this car park, when you have it hand it over to this man then gube him 500 for parking then take go.

That was how they left.

I went to withdraw the 5k I'd in account then went to wait for them to come so i can beg them with the 5k.

Since that morning i didn't see rhese guys, I went to meet baba if they've come baba say no. After like 2hrs baba said they still haven't come but i can hold my car key since I'm not blocking anybody na so baba give me my key.

I started waiting till 4pm and i thought to myself you sure say you nongo japa so? Bros one NIS official don buy cigerette and Goldberg for baba na so baba drink come go inside one dead Alausa staff bus go dey gist with his colleagues...

I just monitor baba, baba don gist forget himself, I first went to ask his boys that collect money at the gate who I'm to settle... Na so I enter my car the boys ran out I gave him 1k ask him to keep tye change and open the gate sharp sharp!! with smiles...

Omo na so I japa ooh... Drove straight to Ogudu... I dey road to my house like this

Drove 10 minutes to this destination, gbenga ashafa ikoyi , the gate tru banana island was locked , I hv to turn round to pass park view only for this woman to be yelling me i should hv waited in front of the closed gate speaking to me with a loud and noisy voice. To be honest I think 10k should be the base/average target for any driver. I started this hustle 2 months ago and any day I work full day because I do this part time (on my off days) I must go home with 10k inside my pocket not Uche’s bolt account balance.

It is now a routine that for every 8500-9000(full tank) fuel I buy I must make 10k three times before I refill. And this is just in Abuja with horrible fare, I believe Lagos should be higher.

There are people who net 20,30 even 40k daily, but these are experienced old timers with a long network of offline clients.

For this business, its good to have proper networks a nigerian could need. Soldier, high rank police, some small area boys (incase na ur area). Lol. And of course, learn to keep ur cool while being disciplined.

Till tomorrow, i still dont know why drivers will fight to collect their money, when u can easily give them a comment they will remember for life, walk them out of ur car and complain to BOLT/UBER. U get paid anyway.

Its always good lessons. Learnt to control my reaction towards everything from ehailing. Cos obviously people will test your patience.

Ride came in, elder woman and daughter. Mama said are you sure u can drive like this? Maybe its the baby face of mine or the small stature. I kept quiet. Next thing she told the woman on phone , “I’m just concerned about this guys driving , not you jare”... meanwhile , I picked her three minutes ago, and we are even in igando general hospital traffic.

As the drama dey increase , i sense she is a troublesome person. She picked someone at the hospital, I politely parked and ask, “the journey is still an hour ma, are you comfortable with my driving or not ma”? Mama said No. i politely ended the trip.

Madam said she must wait in the car to see another ride.

Eyah, sorry ma, i already another ride . Enjoy your day .

Moral of the story:
Not every ride is worth picking, not every action is worth your reaction. Na this hustle teach me that .


By the way, one hour trips showing 2k , 2,500 today. Wetin dey sup?

Maybe because I registered in Lagos though, but my app works everywhere I’ve been to. I even did a trip in Ibadan two days ago on my way to Lagos. There was surge in Owo Road and I set destination to Toll gate. I got 1.9x to Lead City. I have tried Ilorin as well the last time I was there. Dunno if it’s the same thing if you register your drivers app in another state but Lagos state driver can virtually work anywhere within Nigeria I guess. That’s my observation.

On the paper issue, I don’t think Bolt really cares about that anymore. Changed my car recently and I collected ABJ plate number. The guy at the inspection didn’t ask any question on my road worthiness and the likes. Did my inspection last month.

Please, before you accept any trip outside lagos make sure that your car is in good shape.

Last two week, we got 3 ehailing vehicle (2 corolla and one camry 2.2) to ilorin, with my own corolla and a friend 2009 civic for a wedding.

We have 5 vehicle in our convoy, only one of the corolla could get to ilorin and the said corolla could not returned to Lagos on sunday. It finally stopped somewhere around ogbomoso... The civic and my corolla returned.

Most of the vehicles on ehailing now are just scrap, only good for "within lagos"...Once you fire down its a problem.

Please do not accept any out of lagos trip if you're not sure of your car...I dey drive everyday for lagos is not ENOUGH!
