@itsmelex, dts how people talk. But u dnt need to listen to them. What i ll advise is ds; whenever u r sitting, watching tv, place him/her on ur laps n let d back n neck relax on ur chest as if he is sitting in a chair watching t.v. Let him sit on u relaxed n comfortable. As tym goes by u ll sit him on d floor in d middle of ur legs spread wide apart to help him learn to sit on his own. U make it a gradual thing. With tym u can decide to place him sitting in a carton (optional). Ensure u have pillows all around him when he's trying to sit on his own

chacha3: Hai mums in the house, my baby boy of six months is given me great concerns,I introduced cerelac(wheat wit milk) to him and I noticed his poo has changed, its now a bit watery and it usually pass tru his diapers and stain his wears, also d color is now sort of greenish instead of yellowish as it was d case. Don't know if d cerelac is d cause or I shud change frm wheat to rice or somtin else. Am tinking of taking him to d hosp even,I just don't know. Any mum wit dat kind of experience? Tanx
chacha3:

we are in d same boat o,but for me I introduced cerelac first hoping to introduce smash irish potatoes but with the change in his poo,I will wait and see how far before I give him anoda food.

u mothers should have sought advice first from ur pediatrician before u started out on wheat cereal. u dont introduce wheat cereal as a first solid instead its rice cereal coz of allergies. its rice i started with for my daughter. even at 7 months i am yet to introduce wheat. i understand it should be up till 10 months. pls dont give wheat for now. get a rice cereal. presently i use frisogold rice and she takes to it well. what i ll advice u to do now is stop the wheat for like 2 days. breast feed and give water(at least minimally). let their system cleanse. then the third day start afresh but with rice cereal. cerelac too has rice with milk, frisogold is also milk based. there are some u ll have to mix with milk like cow and gate. i hvnt used that one before. and pls when introducing new foods, pls wait for 3 days to see how the body reacts. u can also google introducing solids to breastfed infants.also, have in mind some products are sweeter then others.just go with the one u discover suits ur baby for now.
more advice from other mothers pls

shea butter popularly known as ori. If u are pregnant and ur tummy or any part of ur body itches, don't scratch. Instead use ori to rub d itchy area.

@pinky as for d hiccups it's normal. Yoruba people will say 'on fe inu'(dnt knw if i got it) i.e d tummy is expanding. So in a way it a good sign. If u can, breastfeed her when she starts having it. Also, i hv xperienced backpain when breastfeeding, what i did was put pillow at my back, place a leg on the stool n relax while i breastfed. U could try it too.

pinkydaisy: Hello mums,,new in here, had my baby on the 16th of May and to God be the glory. It has been from one problem to the other but all is well now, i can boldly come to this thread to learn more.
My baby didn't poop after the initial 4/5 days of mecomium,,,,,,she finally pooped after almost 11 days, come and see screaming and tears in the little angels eyes ,,,,but God being so merciful, she passed poop and has been calmer since then. People said it had to do with my diet but i have been reading online that it happens most times to most babies.

After her birth, i noticed her eyes were kind of off coloured from what am used to seeing in most new borns and drew the attention of the doctor to it but he kept on insisting it was normal, not until after about 24 hours when i noticed her pee was so concentrated and practically screamed the doctor into having a look at her,,,my sisters when she was tested for Jaundice, it was so high(the normal level of Billirubim for infants is about 2 but my baby's was 12 ) they began treatment for Jaundice with photo-theraphy for about 3 days and nights, i was just crying like a baby watching her under the heat of that light Unclad and alone. Her skin got so burnt and she lost so much weight very fast, you could just see her disapearing right before your eyes, worst of all, my milk refused to flow.
When we were finally discharged, i took my angel home preparing to start motherhood in peace, when it was noticed that the baby had more than the usual opening on her skull,,the Yorubas call it Oka,,hope i spelt it right? and the igbos call it ngbuwaisi,,,,,my dears, come and see panicking, everybody kept on bringing suggestions on how to help the skull cover up fast and sincerely i was at my wits end. i just turned to God in prayer and reminded him that his gifts added no sorrows so why am i jumping from one problem to the other with my gift that he has given me.I cried and cried unto God and finally somehow, i received his grace on what advice to listen to and what to discard.
Presently, my angel is thriving and she even smiles now, funny. She is eating fine and gaining the weight, slowly but surely.

Long and short of this is that every mother knows her baby best and should pay close attention to the child, always ask questions and be ready to sieve the responses you receive, discarding the unnecessary advices without being rude. Most of all,,God alone knows these babies best, always ask him for his grace and guidance on how to take care of your baby and please worry less cos God can not bring you this far to leave you.

IT IS WELL.
It is well o my sister. Yes God wont bring u ds far 2 leave u.
For d 'oka' thing, ds is what i did. I was told to buy oka @ elewe omo (7 for girls). Soak it in a covered container for 3days and after dt use it 2 wash her head when bathing. No drinking o. Then put silverbird in her oil, mayb half in a bottle of baby oil and apply it on her head everytym and cover d head with cap. It closes d head quickly.

@JULICOKA it could also be that the milk duration has expired. u are to use it within 4weeks i.e 28 days not one month. it happened to my baby but not green poop. i just notised she was pooping more than 2 times and got worried though 2 that tym i had stopped using the milk ready to by another so had to hold. i told a nurse friend and she explained that i am supposed to use the milk for 28 days i.e the exact 4 weeks and not one month as i thought. so pls check the milk, when did u open it? and pls breastfeed her very well. she'll be fyn.

mynd u, she could be teething. Children react to changes differently. Augmentin is quite powerful. I v used it b4 as an adult so u have to be careful. Left to me i'd suggest u use savlon when she's having her bath and use ytacan (alone) or any other antifungal cream( mixed with ori). The powder using agnesia. Reason i said powder is it could also be heat rash.

julicoka: pls i need ur advice,am doing EBF without water,my baby wil be five months on 27th of dis months, looking at her she is getting more slim, her skinny is disturbing me so much,i dot know if i should start giving her water ad baby food,ad i dot know if there is somting disturbing her or is her stature.last time i visited dr he said there is nothing with her,pls great mum in d house help me with ur advices thanks
ify's world:
how will not give a 5 month old water all in the EBF. Mind u we live in the tropics, our weather is too harsh. Imagine how much water ur baby looses. Do de calculation urself.

@julicoka., pls i beg u continue with the ebf w/o water. it is of great benefit and has nothing to do with weight but more of health. try to google health benefits of bf.it is that water that wont make her take much milk cos it will fill the tummy. i understand bf babies dont gain much weight as formula fed babies. my baby will soon be six months and she is not on the fat side.infact she looks like a 4 month old. my mum, my husband and others were like i must give her water but i refused. she was gaining weight until she was 4 months when she tried to refuse bossom milk which i later realized was teething but in the real sense of it she is very very very healthy. right now she is teething but it isnt weighing her down coz of the bf. A fellow nursing mum said to me it isnt abt weight but the health aspect of it n not just for today but also for the future. and since the doctor said she is ok then she is. so u know what is best for ur baby as a mother, do it.
@ify'sworld. with all due respect, breastmilk is i understand,is 88% water. my mum also said this same thing u said to me and when i tried giving my daughter she almost had diarrhea and i stopped imm. EBF is best without water. babies that are EBF are never dehydrated coz breast milk is water packed with nutrients. they have all they need in the milk.

EFOSA VAL: My 7 months old princess wont eat.its a struggle to get anything into her mouth.she crys so much when its feeding time and watching her so really gets at me cry .i think shes not gaining weight like she should.

from birth she never wanted more of breast milk.i noticed that sucking makes her sleep so instead of feeding she sleeps off, to avoide malnutrition i added formula.

now at 7months its a challenging task for me to feed her.we are also approaching the teething stage and i am so concerned about how her low food intake would affect her teething period

Any help pls would really appreciate the tipssad cry embarassed

she might be teething already. it may be her way of teething but u can take her to the doctor.

jiro: Hello mummies I need some help pls I've been using coconut oil and the chicco baby range on my 5month old since he was born bur for the last month or so he has developed very dry scaly skin around his neck and shoulders. Has anyone experienced such with their baby? I've been told that its dry skin and I should apply more cream. I've done that but there's no change. I need a solution as I want my presidents skin to be glowing and spotless. Also does anyone have a remedy for cough and cattarh in babies?@omogemi pls what's tribact? Thanks a lot

lets take it one @ a tym. Tribact is an anti bacatrial, anti fungal n anti inflammatory cream lyk Funbact-A. I use it mixed with shea butter n coconut oil for my baby.
As for d cough n cattarh remedy do what was told to @julicoka. Put silverbird on ur baby's scalp; that soft spot, a drop or 2 along with baby oil. Rub baby metholatum on the baby's chest, feet and back. U can also rub a lil metholatum on her nose not inside her nostrils o. Use hot compress n baby metholatum on her chest n nose when bathing.

Then for ur baby's skin trouble, try using d coconut oil alone or mix it with sheabutter (ori). Leave d chicco baby range for now. I m suspecting it is 'eela' but not sure.

Any other suggestions from our mothers in da house
Health / Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by omogemi: 10:33pm On Mar 28, 2013
julicoka: how will i know d original silver bird ad will i rub it all over her head or at d front head

i knw there is fake but i myself cant differentiate xcpt by d price. This is coz d tym i went to Lagos Island i wanted to buy but was kinda sceptical coz of d price. The lady was selling @ 250. But d one i am using @ d moment is N500 and its original cos d woman brings them directly from abroad and she gave me assurance on it. Even my mum confirmed it due to the smell.
It is an eucalyptus oil and has a strong/gently minty smell. If u cant mix it with baby oil, u can put a drop or 2 on ur baby's head b4/after applying baby oil. U dont need to rub it allover the head, just on the cradle cap, that soft part of the baby's head that 'breathes'
also u can rub a lil bit of baby menthlatum on her chest, back n feet. , it helps fight catar.
Health / Re: NEW BORN BABIES! Are U A New Mum? Then Lets Discuss Babies Here!!!!! by omogemi: 9:57pm On Mar 27, 2013
julicoka: @demmykay thank u,so i can use on my baby, she is breathing as if she ve catar,i feel it at her back pls wil it stop it.

yes it will. mix with the baby oil. it helps a lot. presently i mixed it with my baby oil. half silverbird with a bottle of oil.i use boots baby oil.be sure its original and becarful when mixing so it doesnt spill allover the place

demmykay: Thanks corrall, I will try to do it over d weekend if time permits. D straining part is not too clear I mean wen its on fire. At boiling point, is it just d oil dat is left or oil nd water Moreso can d oil be use alone or do U̶̲̥̅̊ need to $mix it say with shea butter?

it can be used alone or mixed with shea butter. it depends on ur choice. although during ante natal we were told to use alone, but i mix mine with shea butter and tribact. my baby's skin is 'clean' and fyn.

it is not necesary to back a baby if u have househelp. i dont have one and i need to back her when i see the need to esp if i m going down the road and no one at home.
@julicoka.., u can start teaching her to sit now if she is a girl, boys r later. as for the bow leg, ur baby is still very young for that so i doubt if he has. but i suggest u dont let him rest on his feet for too long when u carry him/her. also r u on multivitamins containing vit D. go to ur peadiatrician and tell him/her ur fears. he could prescribe a multivitamin for u if u are not on any
