In a bid to stimulate its economic and tourism potentials, Lagos State is set to host the maiden edition of the Nigeria Beer Festival from September 25 to October 1, 2017. The Lagos State government is collaborating with beer brewers in the country and their counterparts across the globe to create maximum excitement during the week-long fiesta that will climax with the Independence Day Mega Concert to commemorate Nigeria’s independence.


The festival, which will promote responsible drinking among drinking-age (which is 18 years and above) consumers at all its touch points, will be held at the Lagos Atlantic City to give it a carnival atmosphere from Day 1 to the very last second. It will be a gathering of the largest community of beer consumers from across the country and beyond.

The organizers of the Nigeria Beer Festival, On and One Event (001) Limited, said that the Lagos State government, which is passionate about tourism, will provide massive institutional support, particularly security, transport and related logistics.

The event, according to the organizers, will see Nigeria enrol into the league of Beer Festivals around the world, and boost the country’s tourism opportunities. Akinola Oluwaleimu, General Manager of 001, revealed that the world-acclaimedOktoberfest (Beer Festival) in Munich attracts more than 50,000 tourists to Germany every year, while other countries in Europe and the Americas have caught the bug.

“Nigeria Beer Festival will be a carnival week of entertainment, sales and marketing and a gathering of the largest community of beer consumers from across the country and beyond with economic value for the brands and the economy at large,” Oluwaleimu assured.

The Nigeria Beer Festival will provide a fitting ambience to showcase fashion and lifestyle, as well as culture in a carnival atmosphere with various beer brands and other alcoholic drinks in Nigeria connecting with their existing and potential consumers.

This culture touch point is in line with the view of social scientists that that beer is among the symbolic vehicles for identifying, describing, constructing and manipulating cultural values and interpersonal relationships. They classify different alcoholic beverages in terms of their social and cultural meanings.

Historians submit that Beer has always been popular – since times of ancient Babylon and Greece, Mesopotamia and Egypt and is one of the oldest beverages humans have produced, dating back to at least the fifth millennium BC.

Anthropologists and archaeologists also believe that it was a taste for beer, not bread that started the cultivation of barley in around 9000BC, known as the agricultural revolution. Beer didn’t just change the world; historians insist it saved it!

Meanwhile partners of the forthcoming Nigeria Beer Festival are also assured of world-standard facilities as the organisers of the Nigeria Beer Festival have partnered with reputable and qualified architects from Europe to design modular stands to fit into any shape or style desired by exhibitors.

Veteran Yoruba Actress, Kudirat Odukanmi Eluyemi otherwise known as Iyabo Oko has just revealed that she has been seriously ill with a strange ailment which has since been diagnosed to be Stroke since June 2016.



In a recent interview with City People, the veteran actress narrates her ordeal saying, 'I thank God almighty for sparing my life till this moment. The devil tried his best but God showed him that He is truly Alfa and Omega. What happened was that, that very day, after I woke up from my sleep very early in the morning and I attempted to talk, I just found out that I couldn’t talk any longer and I was told it was a partial stroke. She continued to say, 'they tried their best but I couldn’t just talk for months but I still give glory to God that I can now talk properly. I first spent 2 weeks at the hospital and when I got home, it started again and I returned to the hospital. I visited the hospital like 3 times. Kemi Afolabi and Sikiratu Sindodo even saw me because she brought her grandma to the same hospital. Kemi was weeping when she saw me, she took good care of me and she also gave me money. She also said I shouldn’t drown myself in excessive thinking because many have suffered the same ailment and they are nowhere to be found today. After many trials at the hospital, I could still not talk, I was discharged and my son came back from abroad, he rushed me to UK and I spent like one month.'



'I was at home but doctors were coming to treat me. He employed a therapist and after a month, I started talking and my son finally took me to India where everything was perfected. I spent 7months in India receiving treatment at home. I give glory to God almighty that I am now okay. I do exercises frequently, I go out and I do all things, the only difference you will notice about me now is that I am not as agile as I used to be. I have lost a lot of weight and I love it like that because I now keep fit. I was so scared during those trying periods because there were several bad news coming from the industry. As machines become increasingly capable to to do things without supervision and having the abilities to take on some functions just like humans, AI  has become a branch of ICT that will take over  the ecosystem,Nigeria inclusive. We have seen a lot inroad that the AI has made in the areas of banking and electronic learning. Though, sluggishly , unlike what is applicable in other climes, AI is meant to take over many jobs in the country and productivity will increase. Just like the advent of computers, laptop and other ICT devices displaced the conventional typewriter  with a  typist d the conventional personal assistant with digital assistant , so will AI dislodge people. But, there s nothing to be alarmed, the need  align  the country for this is imperative.

Just like it has been predicted in some of the science fiction movies. As it stands today, the future is here and we have seen machines and computers taking over jobs that was being done by humans. Just like the industrial age,  when machines and industrialization displaced a lot of hands in  farms and factories, today, hands are being displaced in an overwhelming manner.

The substitution of human labour by artificial intelligence and robots is a keenly debated topic. While some claim that a substantial share of jobs is at risk, while others argue that computers and robots will lead to product innovations and hence to unimaginable new occupations. One thing that we must agree is that the AI is here and machines are getting smarter while the humans are getting dumber. The impacts of automation technologies are already being felt throughout the economy. The worldwide number of industrial robots has increased rapidly over the past few years.  The falling prices of robots, which can operate all day without interruption. This has led more efficiency in productions and getting more riskier jobs done without putting any human or animals in a harms way.This can be attributed to the importance of AI  and how it affects our lives.

There is no need to be bothered about job loss here s  has been widely speculated. AI will change the labour landscape the way industrialization changed the way labour and productivity is done. It is already happening, take for instance the average desktop computer, before the invention of the computer, typist was a course of study and a job most people, especially ladies were proud of.  Computers displaced the typist, everybody became a typist, typist lost their jobs and computer programmers, software writers,coders, bloggers, hardware and software engineers and  many other people in the ICT value chain gained jobs. Unlike  during the days of typist, its only the typist, the repairman and maybe the seller of the typewriter had jobs. As it was during those days, so it will be during the time of AI. It is already happening. In the banking industry, banks are reducing their operational  expenditure, staff are laid off and AT and automation has taken over. Today, most ATM  can credit accounts and dispense 24/4,transfers are done via ATM and many other banking duties, thereby  rendering the job of average bank teller redundant. But,efficiency and timeliness come to play with AI, installers,robotics engineers, programmers will gain jobs. Just like the typist of old, some jobs will be extinct, jobs  that risk extinction are; bankers (tellers) some front desk, some teachers, models, in sports (umpires) paralegals and a host of others.

Indeed, in the USA their average number fell from 20 per branch in 1988 to 13 in 2004. But that also reduced the cost of running a bank branch, allowing banks to open more branches in response to customer demand. The number of urban bank branches rose by 43% over the same period, so the total number of employees increased".

The sudden U-turn by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to halt action on efforts by voters in Kogi West to recall Senator Dino Melaye came as a result of the Senate’s decision to probe the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund). After a meeting earlier today, INEC decided to freeze the recall effort, citing legal complications.

From 2007 to 2012, INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, served as TETFUND’s Executive Secretary. His time at the Fund was marked by a series of allegations of corruption against him. “It is not an accident that, once the Senate threatened to investigate TETFund, Professor Mahmood Yakubu’s INEC quickly retreated from the ongoing effort to recall Senator Dino Melaye,” a Senate source told our correspondent.

As recently as last Monday, INEC had been adamant that the process to recall Mr. Melaye was on course. That day, Mr. Melaye’s lawyer, Mike Ozekhome, had submitted legal papers to INEC officials, claiming that an order by Justice John Tsoho that all parties ought to maintain the status quo was sufficient to abandon the recall initiative. Even so, INEC initially maintained that the judge’s pronouncement was not sufficient to halt the process, pointing out that the judge did not agree to grant an interim order to back a cessation of action.

Afterward, INEC began the next phase of the recall that had to do with verification of signatures. However, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu did not hide the Senate’s dismay for the process. In an obstructionist response, he described the process as dead on arrival.

Public pushback against the Senate’s interference was sharp and massive. A senator told our correspondent that, on Tuesday night, Senate President Saraki and other Senate leaders met and decided that, in order to contain the recall, “some rough tactics were called for.” At the end of the meeting, the senators decided that the most potentially effective strategy was to open a probe into TETFUND’s past projects, alleging that contractors had stolen funds there in the past.

Jibrin Barau, an APC senator from Kano State, moved a motion demanding a probe of TETFund. He said that “investigative audit” was required of the contracts awarded by TETFund in the past years.

Twenty-four hours after the Senate move, INEC met and decided to suspend the recall, even though the commission said it was going to seek a vacation of the court order to enable the commission to resume the recall.

However, an INEC official told us that the commission’s leadership was not in the least interested in any effort to overturn the unclear court on which basis the recall was stopped. “We all know that judges are going on vacation and the maximum time allowed from start to finish for the recall would present a legal problem for INEC when the case comes up for hearing at Justice Tsoho’s court on September 29th 2017,” said the source.

He added that the attempt by Kogi voters to recall Mr. Melaye “has been sacrificed on the altar of Professor Yakubu’s desire to protect himself and his associates from a probe of TETFund.”

What is rabies?
Rabies is a disease transmitted from animals to humans, which is caused by a virus. There are two clinical manifestations of rabies – frantic and paralytic. Frantic rabies is most common form of human rabies.

Early symptoms can include fever and tingling at the site of exposure.

Saliva from an infected animal can also transmit rabies if the saliva comes into contact with the eyes, mouth, or nose.

How does rabies develop in humans?

Washing bites and scratches for 15 minutes with soap and water, povidone iodine, or detergent may reduce the number of viral particles and may be somewhat effective at preventing transmission.

Only five people have survived a rabies infection after showing symptoms, and this was with extensive treatment known as the Milwaukee protocol.

1) Treat every dog bite as if it's rabid, even the one supposedly vaccinated. Every warm-blooded animal including humans can be infected and can transmit rabies. However, all families of dogs and cats and vampire bats are 'specialists' in transmission.
2) The FIRST and MOST IMPORTANT ACTION to take is RINSE OFF THE SALIVA with copious water (best done under running water) for at least 3 min.
3) Better still gently wash with soap or detergent.
4) Bleach agent can also be applied on the wound.
5) Take to a doctor for further treatment including possible vaccination with anti rabies vaccine.

The first time I became aware of me falling sick was in 2007. I was 26 at the time. Since then it has been a myriad of medical troubles.

It has been cycles of malaria, bacterial infections, disc problems and headache. Every night, I take drugs before I could be able to sleep. I always have antimalarials, antibiotics, nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs and muscle relaxants handy. If malaria symptoms occur, I would take antimalarials and there would be improvement within minutes. And would then complete the dosage in 3 days. By fourth day, symptoms of bacteria infection would occur; I would take ciprofloxacin and get relieved within minutes. Once I complete the dosage, headache would strike, and once aspirin is taken, I get well. But I would keep repeating aspirin every night until gastric ulceration sets in. I would then buy omeprasole and cimetidine to treat ulcer. While ulcer treatment is ongoing, malaria would strike again, and I would take antimalarials. If antimalarials don't work, I would know that the symptoms are bacterial and take antibiotic. If there is no relief, I would combine antimalarials and antibiotic and there would be a relief. It has been like this since 2007. I don't go to hospital again because I have grown to know these symptoms and what doctors would prescribe.

For the past 2 weeks, I have been battling 'herniated disc' problem in my lower back. It started the day I bent down suddenly and I heard a snapping sound at my back bone. I started using norflex, calcium supplement and diclofenac. I feel mild relief because I can't stop my daily hustle to rest while the disc heals. If I dont work in a day, I won't eat or pay bills.

Note that I undergo HIV test almost weekly.

I was in an employment of a bank until recently when my employment was terminated.

When I had the job, I took my family welfare as my priory. My wife and our only son were faring good, I always ensure we do not lack the basic necessities. Meanwhile, my wife did not have a job then. All the house upkeep expenses including the cost of running her postgraduate program were on me and I felt comfortable bearing the costs as the breadwinner of the family.

After I lost my job in the bank some month ago, my wife got an employment with the state govt. With her little income, she has been able to assist in bearing some expenses, even she pays for fuelling our car sometimes.

The drama has now started in the house and our marriage is on the verge of breaking up.

Any little issue, my wife will turn it to quarrel, different abuses. Funny enough, she would be referring to the financial supports she has been rendering in the house. This is a woman that did not work at all for 2 years and I was bearing all the expenses with pleasure. Now she had only supported me for about 4months now and she's is misbehaving.

To my surprise, my wife maintains a record in which she records every penny she spends in the house including food items and fuel. With this, she always ask me when will I pay him back.

At the instance of a simple argument/misunderstanding, my wife would be boasting of 'I paid for this, I paid for that....' 'If not for my support since you had problem at work......'

On the screen I saw people running around. Magazines and TV news said that “CHRIST HAD COME.” The screen closed, and Jesus finished by saying, "I will go for a holy people." This was all He showed me. After that, He brought me back here to Earth.

Well, such fakes abound and will increase in number with time in these last days till Jesus returns.

They give God, Jesus, His Church and Christians a bad name / image. On account of such the 'name of God is blasphemed' among who don't yet believe.

If this pastor is indeed a child of God, he must seriously seek God's face for forgiveness as David did and God will forgive him.
