Politics / Magboro Communities Threaten To Boycott Ogun LG Polls Over Dredgers' Activities by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 4:17am On Jul 23, 2021
Not less than 10 communities in Magboro, Obafemi Owode Local Government, Ogun State are set to boycott Saturday Local Government elections.

The leadership of these communities under the aegis of Joint Community Development Associations said in a statement their action was in protest against the activities of sand dredgers in their communities.

According to the statement, signed by all the chairmen of the CDAs, the dredgers have damaged the only road that connects the whole communities to the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The CDAs are Gaun, New Generation Estate, Peace Garden Estate, Teachers Land, Abule-Oko Unity Estate, Araromi, Pathfinders, Ifesowapo and Glory Land Estate.

The statement noted tthe popular Cele-Oke-Ayo Road, which connects all the communities had been damaged by the heavy trucks of sand dredgers that ply the place everyday and night.

Sometime last year one Capital Waves Nigeria Limited and Teejay/Chinese Dredging Companies moved to Ogun River, Gaun town for dredging activities.

According to the statement, over 100 trucks now ply the road everyday and night, causing serious environmental impact and noise pollution in the community.

“Currently the road is in deplorable condition. We cannot drive our cars anymore because of bad road. A few residents who still manage to drive, spend a lot of money to repair their vehicles. Our wives and children have resorted to trekking now because commercial motorcyclists have stopped plying the road,” the statement reads in part.

Speaking on behalf of the joint CDAs, the Chairman of Abule Oko Development Association (CAC/IT/N0140683), Mr. Kunle Adebanjo, said the residents are boycotting the elections to register displeasure with the condition of the road and also to notify the government about the insensitivity of the dredging companies to the plight of the peaceful residents.

He said the road had always been maintained by the joint CDAs for many years until the dredgers came in.

He explained an agreement was reached between the dredgers, the trucks drivers and the communities that the maintenance of the road would be carried out under Corporate Social Responsibility scheme but that the companies had failed to fulfil its own part of the agreement.

However, the CDAs decided to repair the road a few weeks ago, following the neglect by the sand dredgers but the effort was resisted by the companies.

“The Ibafo Police Division invited our members for a dialogue when the dredgers threatened the residents,” Adebanjo noted.

The police advised the two parties to meet with the traditional ruler to resolve the issue and forward the resolution to the division, which had since been done.

It took the intervention of the traditional ruler, the Olu of Gaun, Oba Sunmonu Seidu to maintain peace between the CDAs and the dredgers.

At the peace meeting, the monarch directed the companies to repair the road but up till now nothing tangible had been done to put the road in good shape.

However, the representative of the truck drivers, Alhaji Waheed Balogun has said that his association would discuss with the dredgers on how to fix the road.

He said during the peace meeting that the truck drivers also faced big problem on the road and that they could stop doing business with the dredgers if it would not join the CDAs to repair the bad road.

While reacting to the protest by the residents, the representative of the dredgers who simply identified himself as Alfa said that he would inform his Managing Director on how to fix the road while also adding that the companies had dropped some loads of hardcore on the bad portion of the road.

Politics / Cultists Attack Ogun APC Campaign, Kill Two by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 4:09am On Jul 23, 2021
Pandemonium broke out on Thursday during the local government campaign of the All Progressives Congress in the Odeda Local government Area of Ogun State when cultists clashed, leaving two persons dead .

The state governor, Dapo Abiodun was hurriedly whisked away by the security operatives during the gun duel.

Our correspondent gathered that two cults in the council engaged in a supremacy battle shortly after the governor arrived the campaign venue.

The Chief of Staff to the Governor, Shuaib Salis, reportedly comes from the council.

A source told our correspondent that one of the cultists shot a member of another group in the head.

This development prompted the people to take to their heels while the suspected killer was reportedly shot dead in a reprisal.

Abiodun, after he was rescued, was later seen at another campaign ground for the Abeokuta North to round off the state-wide campaign ahead of the council poll slated for Saturday.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the command was not aware of the incident.

He however, promised to get back to our correspondent.

Politics / We Don’t Have Anywhere To Go, We Won’t Relocate – Ogun Flood Plane Residents by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 4:28pm On Jul 21, 2021
Residents of some of the flood-prone areas in Abeokuta, Ogun State, have said they will not relocate until the state government provides alternatives for them.

The state government had given an order to residents of the affected areas to relocate to safer places as flash floods were imminent across the state.

The government listed the areas to include Gbangba, Ijaye, Ijeun-Tuntun, Isale-Oja, Kuto, Amolaso, Ijeja, Adedotun, Ago-Ika, Enugada, Totoro, Onikoko.

Others are Adigbe, Ofada, Magboro, Wawa, Arepo, in the Obafemi Owode Local Government Area; Isheri, Akute, Alagbole in Ifo LGA; and Obantoko, Arakanga river, Ewekoro, Ado-Odo/Ota, Sagamu, Ijebu-East, Ogun Waterside and people living around the Owa River Course and Yemule River Course, in the Odeda LGA.

When PUNCH Metro visited some of the areas on Tuesday, residents expressed displeasure over the relocation order of the government.

A landlord, Wale Rabiu, said, “Where will I go? We do go out when the rain starts and return home when it stops.

“I live here with my wife; the flood does not affect our house despite staying directly beside the water channel because the government once assisted us in clearing the bridge and since then, the water has stopped entering my house.

“I am still staying in my house, where can I go? The government can do anything they like, but they should be ready to help us if they truly want us to relocate.”

Another resident, John David, lamented that people in the area were always troubled whenever there was a downpour.

David said, “I am still staying in this house because there is no money. If the government can assist us, we will leave here; we want the government to help us financially.

“Most of us do not have other options; what we do is that if the rain is heavy, we leave here until it stops.”

A resident, who refused to mention his name and claimed to have been living in his house for over 33 years, said government could not force him to relocate from his property.

He said, “The government said we should vacate from our houses, where did they expect us to go?

“I have been staying in this house for over 33 years. My house was destroyed by flood last year; the government promised to compensate us, only to give me Garri, a mat, and a 2.7-feet mattress.

“As you see this house, 13 people are staying in it. When rain falls, it is God that protects us.

“We went to call them to help us clean the river. When they came, they said people were pouring dirt in the river; how much dirt do you see in the river? Water will not carry us!

“Since last year that they came here, none of them came back. The honourable in our area, Adeyemi, I have gone to his office more than four times. The director of environmental sanitation came to check this place; what is the excuse of government that we can’t see their impact?

“The flood that happened in 2018, what did the government do? They are just shouting that they will compensate us, what is the assistance of government? They are just shouting that rain will fall and we should relocate without doing anything to help us.”

On the rising water level, it was gathered that the Oyan Dam and Ogun River are still above average level.

A visit to the Ogun River in Lafenwa, Abeokuta, revealed that the water was rising at above average level.

The Oyan Dam, according to the management of the Ogun Osun River Basin Development Authority, is rising as the state records rainfalls.

The management said it had started releasing water into the cities in Lagos and Ogun following the high volume of water in the reservoir.

Speaking on the preparation of the state government against flooding, the Special Adviser to the Ogun State Governor on Environment, Ola Oresanya, said the government had embarked on dredging of drainage channels.

Oresanya noted that the government also set up an emergency flood unit to provide immediate service to the people during flooding.

Politics / Why Kemi Adeosun Has No Good Reputation To Protect - Sina Kawonise by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 1:12pm On Jul 18, 2021
Received the following on WhatsApp and it's too loaded not to share. Sina Kawonise went in hard on Kemi Adeosun. Darn!

Dele Ogun, your sister, Kemi Adeosun, has no good reputation to protect for the following reasons:

Since the High Court judgment on Kemi Adeosun NYSC certificate scandal, you, Dele, have been putting up spirited defense of your sister, abusing everyone who disagrees with your viewpoint, running down Premium Times who broke the story and those who dared to raise issues with your opinions on the matter as ‘idiots’. In one of your posts, you alleged that some imaginary people “simply wanted to get her out of the office to make way for the one who is mortgaging the country to the hilt, and the best way was to lie through Premium Times”. This is a repeat of your assertion that Kemi was “forced out of office” as Minister of Finance to allow the Buhari government to plunge the country into the debt overhang that has become the hallmark of the federal government Kemi worked for as Finance Minister.

The fact of the matter is that it was Kemi, as Finance Minister, who started Nigeria on the path of its current debt bottomless pit.
According to reports from Debt Management Office (DMO), as of June 30, 2015, Nigeria’s debt was N12.12tn. By December 2017, 30 months after Buhari took over as President and 25 months after Kemi became minister of finance, Nigeria’s debt had ballooned to
N21.73tn, an increase of N9.61tn, or 79.25 per cent over what was inherited. By the time Kemi was forced to resign on September 14, 2018, the country’s debt had further increased to N24.35 trillion. This represents an increase of N12.23 trillion or 100.9 percent of the debt figure inherited.

As “of December 31, 2020, the country’s debt portfolio had risen to N32.92tn. This shows that within a period of 66 months (five and half years), the country’s debt had risen by N20.8tn.” (See Punch, May 27, 2021). Thus, out of the N20.8 trillion debt incurred by the Buhari government as at December 2020, N12.23 trillion (58.8 percent) was contracted during Kemi’s tenure as Finance Minister.

So, Dele, your allegation that Kemi was forced out of office to pave way for unbridled borrowing by the Buhari government has no foundation in fact. When the history of the Buhari government is written in the fullness of time, Kemi Adeosun’s name will feature prominently as a principal figure in the destruction of Nigeria’s economy.

In specific terms, it was Kemi who persuaded the Buhari government to indulge more in external borrowings because, according to her, interests on external debts were lower than local ones. While former President Olusegun Obasanjo achieved the monumental feat of getting Nigeria out of the huge external liabilities - the profile former President Goodluck Jonathan strenuously maintained by keeping external borrowings very low - Kemi Adeosun pushed Nigeria back the precipice of unbearable external debt burden.

Dele, this is not a good reputation for anyone to flaunt!

THE OGUN STATE PILLAGE
Kemi Adeosun became Ogun state Commissioner for Finance in 2011 after I had left office as Commissioner for Information and Orientation. The first thing I realised about Kemi was how easily she lied with figures. A few weeks after she assumed office, she put out a figure of N138 billion as debt left behind by ex-governor Ibikunle Amosun’s predecessor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel. Later on, in August 2011, when she accompanied her principal to Olabisi Onabanjo University to see the devastation left behind by a terrible armed robbery attack on the campus, she told journalists there that the government she served inherited N103 billion debt. This figure got down to N78 billion about six months after. After Ernst & Young accounting firms contracted by the Amosun government to do forensic audit of the state’s accounts finished its work, it was discovered that OGD left a paltry debt of N4 billion after bank reconciliations that yielded to Amosun more than N10 billion refund in excess bank charges and refunds for federal road constructed by the OGD administration.

More serious than the habitual lying by Kemi was her participation and justification of what became known in Ogun state as the regime with unjustifiably high and mind boggling costs of project delivery.
What I wrote in May 2018 captures the pillage by the Amosun government, for which Kemi Adeosun was the treasury keeper for 4 years:
“Besides the normal recurrent expenditure, which has been consistently high under the Amosun Administration, about 90 percent of what remained for capital expenditure has been spent on expansion of very few existing urban roads in a few locations in the State. Out of a total of 2,545 kilometers of state (Trunk B) road across the State, Governor Amosun has spent almost N300 billion to expand a total of 347 kilometers. This represents a paltry 13.6 percent of state roads crying for attention. Virtually all internal (Trunk C) roads in every city, town and village in the State have become impassable. This is the case because all federal allocations to Local Governments (LGs), as well as their Internally Generated Revenues (IGR) are seized by Amosun using the instrumentality of a law he enacted immediately he got into office for what he described as State/LG Projects Joint Account.
Apart from all other sectors neglected due to this mono-focus on urban road expansion which, in real terms, adds little or nothing to the GDP of Ogun State, the real tragedy is the huge debt Amosun will be leaving for all of us and our children to settle in at least the next 30 years.
The incompetence and irresponsibility of the current government are vividly captured in the 2016 Financial Statement of the State published in some national newspapers on December 28, 2017. In that Statement, Ogun State had a total revenue of N114.8 billion. From this figure, FAAC allocation from Abuja was N32.6 billion, IGR N71.5 billion, and others (not specified - most probably short-term loans from banks) N10.7 billion.
From this revenue of N114.8 billion, N70 billion (or 61 percent) went on recurrent expenditure in 2016. While salaries and emoluments took N39.5 billion, overhead costs consumed a whooping N13.8 billion, with debt servicing taking away N16.7 billion (this amounts to N1.39 billion monthly).
From the figures above, it would be seen that only N44.8 billion was available for capital expenditure. To appreciate the level of incompetence and corruption of the Amosun government, I’ll cite two roads that are typical of the road expansion projects executed by it.
1. OGTV-Brewery junction road with a distance of 8.7 km at a total cost of N17.2 billion and per/km cost of N1.98 billion.
2. Sagamu-Benin Express junction/Oba Erinwole junction road at a total cost of N11.87 billion and per/km cost of N1.7 billion.
If the total amount available for capital expenditure in a typical year (as it was the case in 2016) was N44.8 billion, how does anyone justify spending N1.98 billion to expand one kilometer of an existing road with no strategic importance or the potential to boost the local economy? At that rate, it means the whole N44.8 billion could expand a total of only 22.6 kilometers in a budget year out of the 2,545 km Trunk B roads and tens of thousands Trunk C roads needing attention.
Now, the reported costs of the road projects are another matter entirely. The Lagos-Ibadan express road being executed by the Federal Government is 124 km at a cost of N167 billion, which translates to N1.35 billion/per kilometer. While the Sagamu-Lagos end is 8 lanes, the Sagamu-Ibadan portion is 6 lanes. Apart from the width of the FG’s road, the construction is a total overhaul of existing road with massive excavation and very thick concrete and asphalt overlay that are several times the volume and dimension of any of Amosun’s roads. Yet, the FG’s road is far cheaper than what is delivered to us in Ogun state.
The foregoing is the very reason there are no passable roads in the towns and villages of Ogun State outside of the 300+ km in the few urban locations. It is the reason the education and health sectors have deteriorated so badly. It is the reason unemployment is at its worst in the history of the state. It is the reason the 7,334 CDAs and 55,000 cooperative societies in the State receive no attention whatsoever from the government. It is the reason only one out of the 22 so-called Model Schools started 6 years ago is operational. It is the reason the government is owing civil servants 18 months salary deductions and 4 years of backlog in gratuities and pension. It is the reason so many manufacturing concerns in Sango Otta, Agbara, Igbesa, Akute, Ogijo, Mowe and Ibafo axis have shut down and retrenched thousands of workers because there are no motorable roads to their factories. It is the reason agriculture receives no tangible government support and it is the basis of the lie and fraud called MITROS rice. It is the reason all the taps hitherto serviced by public pipe-borne water are dry. It is the reason the whole economic environment of Ogun State is so dreary and mournful.
THE DEBT OVERHANG
In the 2016 Financial Statement referred to earlier, the government reported a total debt stock of N113.2 billion, being internal and external loans. This is partial reporting and concealment of facts. Non-flow debts of liabilities to workers and pensioners, outstanding payments to contractors and suppliers are not included. Informal estimates have it that total non-flow debts are about N150 billion. With the interest-based debt of N113.2 billion, the $300 million (= N109 billion) World Bank loan recently and dubiously approved for Amosun by the National Assembly, the current government will be leaving a whooping N372 billion debt overhang for Ogun residents to sort out for the next two generations. For, if the debt repayment rate remains at the N1.39 billion per month level of 2016, it’ll take a minimum of 30 years to settle the debt at a conservative single-digit interest rate of 9 percent.”

From the above, it could be seen that before Kemi was pivoted to the federal level by her principal, Ibikunle Amosun, she had become well practiced in the ignoble act of debt entanglement.

KEMI ADEOSUN HEADHUNTED?
Another claim by by Kemi’s elder brother, Dele Ogun, is that she was headhunted to serve Ogun state first and later the whole Nigeria. That term is reserved for outstanding individuals who have made notable marks during schooling, academic accomplishments, professional careers, known notable contributions to public policies, disruption in business, etc. What was Kemi’s position among her class in the UK polytechnic she attended? What academic papers/books did she have to name her name prior to her appointment as Ogun Commissioner? What was her rank in the bank she worked in before coming to Ogun state? Dele, kindly tell us what ground-breaking policy contributions made by your sister as Finance Minister? You claimed that your sister was a victim of Pull Her Down (Phd) syndrome. Of what importance was she to the Nigeria project that some people (beyond her fellow hustlers in the failed government she served) would be sworn to pull her down? From what height? Being Minister? While I understand how destiny-changing being Minister could have been to you in your family, her tenure made Nigeria and Nigerians worse off.

Now, it’s in defence of this your disreputable sister that you think you’re at liberty to abuse those who are superior to you intellectually, in professional attainments and other accomplishments. Dele, what accomplishments do you have as an historian and lawyer to impugn the attainments of Premium Times and the excellent professionals behind the locally and internationally acclaimed publication? The inanities you uttered about the newspaper and those who questioned your prosaic defense of your sister are absolutely beyond you.

There are far more to reveal about the idol of your clan, Kemi Adeosun. My prayer is that you make good your threat to sue Premium Times. In the open court, you’ll learn that, in matters of integrity, dignity and social attainments, your sister is lighter than chicken feather.

Thanks.

Politics / Abiodun Blames FG As Residents Tackle Gov Over Lagos-abeokuta Highway by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 8:46am On Jul 15, 2021
Angry residents of Ado-Odo/Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State on Wednesday stopped the convoy of the state Governor, Dapo Abiodun, demanding explanation for his failure to fix the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos Expressway.

The governor, while pleading with the residents, blamed the Federal Government for frustrating his administration’s efforts at reconstructing the road.

PUNCH Metro gathered that the residents trooped to the Sango-Idiroko highway to express their displeasure over the state of roads in the area.

Another round of protest by angry residents of the state led to the governor’s stopover at the Joju Bypass of the Lagos-Ota-Abeokuta Expressway after the initial protest at the Sango-Idiroko highway.

While apologising for the deplorable conditions of the roads, Abiodun pleaded with the residents to exercise patience pending when his administration would find a solution to the problem.

The governor said he made several efforts to speak with the Federal Government over possible takeover of the roads for reconstruction, adding that he did not get approval.

Abiodun was forcefully stopped while embarking on a campaign tour of the area ahead of the forthcoming council poll scheduled for Saturday, July 24.

Ogun and Lagos states in 2019 submitted a proposal to the Federal Government, seeking the handover of the Abeokuta-Ota-Lagos Expressway for joint reconstruction.

The governor lamented the non-readiness of the Federal Government to speedily attend to the road despite his several appeals for its rehabilitation.

Abiodun said, “I pleaded with them to handover the road to us for rehabilitation, but they refused and insisted that they would do it.

“You can also see the presence of Julius Berger Construction Company at the old Toll Gate axis of this expressway. But we told them to come and fix these failed portions in order to reduce these sufferings, but they wouldn’t listen.

“I will bring the honourable minister of works and infrastructure down here so that he can physically see things for himself. If, however, they still refused to do it, then we will do it ourselves.”

Politics / Nigerian Activist Arrested For Protesting Benin Republic’s Encroachment Released by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 5:52am On Jul 15, 2021
Nigerian activist, Kunle Garb, who was arrested and prosecuted by Benin Republic, has been released.

Garb, in a statement he personally signed on Wednesday, said he was released on Tuesday from the Porto-Novo Prison.

He, however, said he had no regrets over his unlawful arrest and detention by Benin Republic police officers .

Recall that Garb was arrested at Igbokofi market in Yewa-North Local Government Area of Ogun State about three weeks ago.

He said arrested by Benin Republic policemen for resisting their encroachment on the Nigeria land through Igbokofi village.

In his statement, Garb described his arrest and prosecution as unlawful, saying he passed through hell in the Benin Republic Prisons.

He urged the government to take the issue of encroachment seriously and attend to the needs of the people of Igbokofi.

The statement read partly, “I was released on Tuesday. 13th of July, 2021 from Porto-Novo Prison around 8.15pm.

“My fellow country men and women, fellow compatriots, I have no regrets passing through all I went through in the hands of Benin Republic government for Nigeriaif these are speedily executed for Igbokofi people:

“Making Ijoun-Igbokofi road motorable, ensuring the returning of the pillars removed by Benin Rep and replanted to favour their country, instructing all security agencies of Nigeria to have their post in Igbokofi, especially the police.

“Without doing the above, my unlawful arrest and detention will be a waste and I’ll see it as a punishment in vain.”

His wife in message to our correspondent hailed the return of her husband.

Health / COVID-19: Ogun Records 15 New Cases Of The Delta Variant by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 9:03pm On Jul 14, 2021
The Government of Ogun says it has recorded 15 new cases of the new Delta variant of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) within the month of July.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker, made this known in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abeokuta.

She lamented the rise in the number of cases within the month compared with having only two cases in June.

She explained that four patients are currently receiving treatments at one of the isolation centres in the state, which according to her. was practically empty in the last one month.

The commissioner who confirmed that two new deaths were equally recorded, advised residents to adhere strictly to public health and social measures.

“Ogun has experienced a gradual rise in cases with 15 new cases in the last two weeks, compared to two cases in the whole month of June 2021.

“Four persons are currently being managed in the isolation centre that have been empty in the last one month.

“Also, we have recorded two new deaths in the last three weeks,” she said.

Coker said it had, therefore, become imperative for government to curtail the spread of the virus among the people.

This, she said was necessary considering the fact that eight out of 20 local government areas in the state share border with Lagos State with a major international airport.

According to her, the response team at both the state and local government areas are being re-energised for prompt and effective response.

“While NCDC is currently working frantically to ensure surveillance of the Delta variant in the country, Ogun government is re-energising her response team at the state and local government level for prompt and effective response.

“Risk communication is being embarked upon at community levels too and we’re working with the Federal Port Health Authority to ensure passengers are screened at the land crossings in the state.

“Infection, Prevention and Control (IPC) focal persons in our health facilities have been alerted to step up IPC measures, while we have deployed rapid test kits to major secondary and tertiary health facilities to test patients who are to undergo surgeries, patients with symptoms suggestive of COVID-19 and persons who want to know their status,” Coker added.

She noted that the state government would embark on mobilisation for the test at five high-burdened local government areas, which are: Abeokuta South, Ado-Odo/Ota, Ikenne, Obafemi Owode and Sagamu.

She, therefore, urged residents to ensure strict adherence to public health and social measures in place and to avail themselves of the opportunity of being vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus.

From experience, best to let each other know that you can only be friends. I don't mean insinuate it o, I mean sit down and have a discussion about it. It's best if you both go your separate ways. Except she wants to come and meet you there within two years or so

Politics / Ogun LG Poll: Substituted Candidate Drags APC, OGSIEC To Court by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 8:59pm On Jul 10, 2021
Barely two weeks to Ogun State local government elections slated for Saturday July 24, a councilorship aspirant, Mr Osularu Olabanjo Muyiwa has dragged the Vice Chairman, Caretaker Committee of Ikenne local government, Hon Efuwape Olaitan Muhammed, his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) to Sagamu High Court over allegations of substitution of name.

The originating court summons dated July 8 and filled on behalf of Osularu Olabanjo Muyiwa by the law firms of Fazaz Segun Daud and Co and Hussein Omikunle and Co was said to have been brought before the court in pursuant to section 36 of 1999 constitution, section 87 (9) of Electoral Acts 2010 as amended, Articles 7, 19 and 21 of APC constitution and paragraph 3, 4A (5) and 6 of the APC electoral guidelines 2014 and order 3, rules 8 and 9 of Ogun State High Court.

Osularu in the affidavit deposed to had claimed to have won the APC councilorship primaries for Ward 5, Iperu Remo held on May 20, 2021 but his name had allegedly been substituted for the first respondent, Hon Efuwape Olaitan Muhammed serving currently as the Vice Chairman, Caretaker Committee of the local government.

Osularu, in the court summon which compelled the three respondents to appear before the court within seven days after being served is urging the court to determine among other things whether it was lawful açcording to section 87 (9) of the Electoral Acts 2010 as amended and APC constitution and election guidelines, his name should have been substituted for that of Hon Efuwape as the APC councilorship candidate for Ward 5, Iperu Remo in the coming local government elections.

The applicant has equally urged the court to give an order nullifying the name of Hon Efuwape as the APC councilorship candidate for Ward 5, Iperu Remo since his selection was not in tune with section 87 (9) of Electoral Acts 2010 as amended as well as APC constitution and election guidelines.

Osularu in the same vein pleaded with the court to order the second respondent, APC to forward his name to the 3rd respondent, OGSIEC while the 3rd respondent must accept, list, publicize and print his name on the ballot paper as the APC councilorship candidate for Ward 5, Iperu Remo in the coming local government elections.

The applicant also urged the court to give an order of perpetual injunction restraining Efuwape from parading himself as the standard bearer of APC for Ward 5 in the coming local government elections while the party and OGSIEC must also henceforth stop dealing with him as far as this subject matter is concerned.

Osularu equally demanded that if at the date the court gives its judgement on this lawsuit, the 2021 Ogun State local government elections had been conducted and the first respondent had won as the APC councilorship candidate for Ward 5 Iperu Remo, the third respondent, OGSIEC must withdraw the certificate of return issued and award same to Osularu as the duly elected councilor for Ward 5, Iperu Remo.

Crime / Three Suspected Cultists Arrested After Initiation In Ogun by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 8:44pm On Jul 10, 2021
Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested three suspected cultists after allegedly forcing a young man to drink blood during initiation rites.

The Police Public Relations Officer in Ogun state, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday.

Oyeyemi said a young man, Celestin Oyebuchi, complained that some people suspected to be cultists forced him to drink blood and tortured him to join their group.

Oyeyemi said Oyebuchi added that he was abducted by three cultists and taken to an uncompleted building for the initiation into their confraternity.

The PPRO said the suspects were arrested on Thursday following a report by the victim, Oyebuchi, that three members of Supreme Vikens confraternity forced him to join their cult group.

He said the complaint was lodged at Igbesa divisional headquarters by Oyebuchi that he was abducted by the trio of Williams Omoori, Edet Godswill and Emmanuel Dimgba.

“On interrogation, the three suspects confessed being members of Supreme Vikens confraternity, they confessed further that they were looking for more members to join them which led them to the abduction of the complainant who may not want to join them through persuasion,” the statement partly read.

Oyeyemi, however, said the Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspects to the Anti-Cultists Section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for discreet investigation.

He added that the Commissioner warned that war against cultism in the state is a continuous one.

According to him, the Commissioner of Police said there is an opportunity for those who want to renounce their membership to do so before the long arms of the law caught up with them.

Foreign Affairs / Twitter Loses Immunity Over User-generated Content In India by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 12:39pm On Jul 06, 2021
NEW DELHI, July 6 (Reuters) - Twitter Inc (TWTR.N) no more enjoys liability protection against user-generated content in India as the U.S. microblogging giant has failed to comply with new IT rules, the Indian government said in a court filing.

The statement is the first time Prime Minister Narendra Modi's administration has officially said Twitter has lost its immunity after repeatedly criticising the company for non-compliance.

The dispute and the public spat has raised concern that American firms will find it difficult to do business amid a more stringent regulatory environment.

India's IT ministry told the High Court in New Delhi that Twitter's non-compliance amounted to a breach of the provisions of the IT Act, causing the U.S. firm to lose its immunity, according to the filing dated July 5.

The filing came in a case filed by a Twitter user who wanted to complain about some allegedly defamatory tweets on the platform, and said the company was not complying with the new law that requires appointment of certain new executives.

Twitter declined to comment. The company has previously said it was making all efforts to comply.

India's new IT rules which became effective end-May are aimed at regulating content on social media firms and making them more accountable to legal requests for swift removal of posts and sharing details on the originators of messages.

Technology minister Ravi Shankar Prasad has slammed Twitter for deliberately defying the law and said all social media firms must abide by the new rules.

In recent weeks, as acrimony grew between New Delhi and Twitter, Indian police have filed at least five cases against the company or its officials, including some related to child pornography and a controversial map of India on its career page.

Police in two Indian states have named Twitter India chief Manish Maheshwari in complaints. Separately, the state of Uttar Pradesh has challenged in the Supreme Court a bar on police action against Maheshwari, after a lower court protected him against arrest over an accusation that the platform was used to spread hate.

Crime / Nude Pictures: 25-year-old Arrested For Extorting N7m From Victim by OmoOgunOriginal(f): 10:49am On Jul 02, 2021
Men of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested 25-year-old Adetoro Kazeem for the alleged blackmail and extortion of a woman to the tune of N7m.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

Oyeyemi said the suspect, a resident of Paara Street, in the Alakia area of Ibadan, Oyo State, was arrested following a report by the complainant, Gloria Ogunnupebi.

He said the woman told the police at the Obalende divisional headquarters, Ijebu-Ode, that she received a message from a strange foreign number via a voice note on her WhatsApp, demanding N200,000 or he would upload her nude pictures on social media.

According to her, she sent the said amount to the suspect in order to prevent the caller from exposing her to public ridicule.

She further told the police that the suspect continued to make more financial demands, thereby extorting her to the tune of N7,363,900.

The complainant added that she decided to report when she got tired of the continuous extortion and started contemplating suicide.

Oyeyemi said following the report, the Obalende Divisional Police Officer, SP Salami Murphy, mobilised his crack detectives to go after the suspect.

The PPRO said, “The detectives embarked on intelligence and technical based investigation, and they successfully traced the suspect to his hideout in Ibadan, Oyo State, where he was apprehended.

“On interrogation, the suspect, who confessed to the crime, informed investigators that he had many OPAY accounts with different names through which he received money from his victims.”

Oyeyemi quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, to have applauded the detectives for ‘a well done job.’

He added that the CP ordered an in-depth investigation into the past activities of the suspect with a view to charging him to court as soon as possible.

Lagos State government should stop this unnecessary confusion

Lagos is just handling Mile 2 - Okokomaiko section

The rest from Igbo elerin to seme is been handled by FG!
The contractor handling that section is (WE CONSTRUCTION),they have their yard at Agbara

LAGOS State government should tell us that they have almost complete the section they are handling!

Go and check from Agbara-Badagry the road is worst with multiple checking by men of the NPF under the Area K police command.

But for lagos to be Saying
Lagos-badagry expressway is almost completed is a lie

Let them beg FG to also pressure WE to Finish the section they are handling

Let me get this straight. You are attacking the person that has almost finished his work because the other people haven't done appreciable work on theirs?

Shouldn't you face those ones?

Or the Lagos State Government did is not Lagos-Badagry Road again? Is it Lagos - Abuja Road?
