Politics / Re: 10 Years After: How Do You Remember Abacha? by omoovie(f): 3:49am On Jun 11, 2008 |
I was at school when the news came! Picture all these students quietly seated listening to our teacher Mrs Adeleke (a usually strict lady) teach English. In walks our Math teacher RUNNING, her eyes wide as she shrieks that Abacha is dead! Mrs Adeleke looks stunned for a moment her face showing her neurons working around this information then she launches into, "Aso to ba dara ko ra fo more!" And we go mad and start dancing and jumping on desks like they just announced that every home will receive N1,500,000 as our share of the oil wealth! It's something I will NEVER forget! And please people--- I know it's easy to say, "Ah compared to peeps like Babangida and Abacha, Baba is a blessing!" but let's not be fooled for one minute. Baba is the one that has signed and engendered relations with China signing away whatever meagre dregs are left of our resources to those yellow pawpaw swines that will not blink twice once they are done using us till all that's left is a dead corpse! He's the one under whom many more years of blatant, irresponsible politics has happened who campaigned for another term so he can syphon more money and sign away more things because the one he had done was not enough! Please! Nigeria is forever plagued with leaders that have shit and greed for brains and like another thread mentions I think that shows an intrinsic problem with us as a people. |

This is the Miyavi guy that's my baby daddy! Check out that 1 minute super fast guitar solo! BAD ASS!: [flash=350,350] https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YMsq9qH-4xs&hl=en[/flash] And this is Coheed and Cambria: [flash=350,350]http://youtube.com/watch?v=ycMNBgoWPZg[/flash] The twiddling on the Ibanez guitar gave me an eyegasm first time I saw it! |
Music/Radio / Re: Rock Chick Seeks People With Same Interests In Music by omoovie(f): 4:51pm On Jun 10, 2008 |
NubianQ no way you listen to Rock!! Yay! Did you see my reply on that other thread? I do rock too! I like the metal stuff too - 30 secs (OMG Jared Leto is so beautiful! I didn't think he could also sing!), Coheed and Cambria (soooo underrated! They are sooo frigging good!), POD, My Chemical Romance, 10 Years, Avenged Sevenfold, White Stripes, Coldplay, 3 days Grace (some, not all), Fuel, Creed (of course!), Switchfoot, Staind, Hoobastank, Yellowcard (some, not all) INCUBUS (my all time fave), System of A Down, and much more. I am also really into the Visual Kei scene (That's Japanese Visual Style/shock/anime/kabuki type rock! It's soo frigging awesome!) My favourite artistes are MIYAVI (who I've dubbed my baby-daddy! And weda na this life oh or d one to come oh, me and im mus marry! He's d guy in my profile pic), Gackt (some not all of his stuff), Dir En Grey (some not all), the Gazette, Kagrra, Alice Nine, Judy and Mary, JANNE DA ARC (OmyJah, I love these guys), Acid Cherry and many more. Yayy, I'm not the only crazy Naija babe! Yayyyy!!! Lately though I've been getting into Naija music as well. As well as Ethiopian music (Check out Aster Aweke and Gigi) and Mauritanian (Malouma) and Arabic music in general because I bellydance! I'm soo impressed by the new crop of artistes and a lot of old ones are stepping up their game big time! I want to be in that group of pioneers you know? In a lot of ways I feel Africa esp Naija (because places like Morocco, Ethiopia, Egypt, Algeria, Mali, Senegal and SA have established their sound whereas we are still fresh so to speak) is the last frontier of music! There are all these established industries and sounds in Amer and EU and places in Asia like Japan, Korea and India have established their own sound sotay they are now coming up with fusion and sub genres like neosoul and triphop and all the flavours/subgenres of rock se u get whereas we are still working to build ours! I think that's y groups like Toubab Krewe are going to Africa to learn our ways of playing and creating music. I want to be on the cusp with these pioneers! I want to be right there when it happens as a part of and a pioneer of the genre and the sound of Nigerian and African music. |
Music Business / Re: Software For Making Music Beat? by omoovie(f): 4:15pm On Jun 10, 2008 |
Go here: http://www.fruityloops.com/ The software costs an arm and a leg but it's well worth it. I'm working on it right now making beats for my own studio album to come out later this year. Happy creating! |

Biabeke: My dear this one is different oh! Like I mentioned somewhere on this thread 3 years, 5 years, 7 years kukuma I can understand! D babe senior d guy with double digits. She was not young when she met him and she obviously wants companionship in her older years. Your situation and her own are soooo not the same. amber_ella: Yeah y'all, it's funny the way sheniqua and 2Legit dissected it but really, she made it obvious that the 1st one was purely for papers. |
Culture / Re: American Women That Marry Nigerian Men by omoovie(f): 4:30pm On Jun 09, 2008 |
Blatant: My dear I used to think it was harsh too but let's be realistic! Real life isn't the movie "Prime" and all these women have this fantasy of "How Stella Got Her Groove Back". It may be based on real life but the possibility of that happening is 1 in a million. You can't be wanting to use small boy to flenge den be vexing when they rub porto porto on your face. This goes for the older guys too. The plain and simple truth is that these women are taking advantage of a desperate situation (d guys want to get out of Naija by any means because they need access to better opportunities) to fulfill their own need for companionship and sex in their old age. It's predatory regardless of what guise it wears whether male or female. So me I've started feeling less pity and more irritation and umbrage. |
Culture / Re: Cultural Misunderstandings by omoovie(f): 11:04pm On Jun 06, 2008 |
Whenever my boss calls me I answer, "saah?" It drives him crazy. I've been trying to stop it but it's reflexive. Also, my advisor couldn't stand that I always called her Miss Cornell. She said it made her sound old. I was like, you're almost 60. There is no way I will start calling you Brenda! That's cause for an automatic slap in Naija! |

Culture / Re: Annoying Nigerian Sayings by omoovie(f): 10:33pm On Jun 06, 2008 |
These don't really annoy me sha, they are just ways we express ourselves and I'd rather be unique than borrrrrinnnnggg! Gimme mai g She na/He na --- as in "She na picked up the bowl and took it out. She na washed all her clothes. She na hung her clothes to dry". (Especially in Benin) Any large container you put water into with a wide mouth whether it be rectangular, made of plastic, or metal is called a "basin" All small (4 - 10 liter) containers are called "jerrycans" all those 10 liters or higher are called, "gallons" Septic tank = Soakaway/Suckaway (OR "Soakawhale" like my Igbo friend from Umuahia used to say) Butter can be called Margarine, Margarine can be called Butter All pointing is done with lips and the jaw never with the fingers Every area of your upper limb (the Hand, palm, fore-arm, & arm) is called your hand Every area of your lower limb is called your leg Go and throway the trash instead of Go and throw away the trash OR instead of throw it away we say throway it. |

Politics / Re: National Anthem: Letter And Prayer by omoovie(f): 6:45pm On Jun 04, 2008 |
According to this: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arise_O_Compatriots The national anthem was a group effort and wasn't written by a British woman. Even in primary school, I remember we were taught that the anthem was written by Nigerians. The original anthem we used after independence was written by 2 male Brit expatriates but has since fallen out of use. |
Foreign Affairs / Re: Barrack Obama, Please Pick Hillary If You Want To Win ! by omoovie(f): 6:31pm On Jun 04, 2008 |
Obama doesn't need Hillary. Everybody is dancing around Hillary like this is some election that she had in the bag that was unjustly snatched from her. This is not about a candidate's ego (because that's what pundits, the media and co are catering to), this is about a whole nation. Obama should not be coerced into making Hillary his VP because between her backyard tactics, her unnecessary obstinacy, her continuation of unsightly foreign policies, her humongous ego, her belief that she should have won this campaign without trying and her ardent love and respect for McCain Obama's 1st term in the white house (please father let it not be his last) would be constantly derailed from what he has worked so hard to get people to recognize - change is needed in the white house. He can easily get someone else to be his VP and bring the so-called "blue-collar workers" and women voting on sexist lines to join his campaign and win the election. Personally, I'd rather see Edwards, Bill Richardson or another woman take that spot. I'm even hearing now that W is saying Barack should take Hillary as his VP. What nonsense? The republicans just want to use this term as a, "oh let's have d democrats take over for a year and make sure they are so riddled with problems and lack of cohesion that they appear incompetent then our time will be here again"! E no go work oh! E no go work! Obama 4 president! |
