Rigging or no rigging is not the issue, Nigeria is not a banana republic. You cannot just take issues into your hands whenever you perceive some wrong doing against you, no country can survive when the rule of law is not followed. In north Africa where there has been a lot of protests we do not hear of people killing people from the presidents village or town, all protests where directed at the leadership. Why is Nigeria's case always different? Justice must be seen to be served, no sweeping under the carpet and saying God will judge or enough is enough. This has happened for far too long, in Jos so many innocent people were murdered for no reason including Youth Corpers and nobody was brought to book. Is it that difficult to find out who the ringleaders of these killings are? you only need some basic police work to find out the ringleaders and foot-soldiers who carry out this dastardly acts but because of politics everything is swept under the carpet. |

Check this website http://www.hotels.com/ You can plug in the address of the Nigerian embassy in New York (828 2nd Ave # 12 New York, NY 10017-4300) and it will show results starting within 0 miles of the embassy and further. If you have a site where you prefer to book your hotels you can get the name of the hotel from this site and book the hotel using your preferred website. |

EzeUche__:I feel you on this, I do not understand why anyone would be so morbid as to type things like this, I can only assume he has some sort of bipolar disorder and it is up to the Mods to do something. |
obong:A post from 2005. Kind of ironic how African countries go in circles. We never learn. There should have been adequate security in the North immediately after the presidential elections. |
Seun:Your details are on the front page. If you click one of the topics on the front-page titled " CPC statement on Post-Election violence in the North" it takes you straight to this page: https://profiles.google.com/seun.osewa/about |
This is really depressing, a young man killed for no reason by deranged illiterates. The sad part is no one will be brought to justice for this heinous crime, life continues as usual and more Youth Corpers will be posted to this same state in the next batch. |
I am getting fed up of hearing about Youth Corpers getting killed in the north, not accidentally but deliberately whenever there is one religious uprising or political issue or whatever the deranged northerners use as an excuse to slaughter southerners. The federal govt does not seem to have any human sympathy at all, just because it is not your kid you think if one person or two people die in a service year it is excusable or forgettable, forgetting that the family members will live with that for the rest of their lives. This has happened not once or twice but almost every year in recent times we hear of some Corpers dying brutally in the north, this is unacceptable. If the Federal Govt cannot scrap the NYSC with immediate effect, they should stop posting southerners to any state in the north where a Corper has ever died for at least 5 years until it can be shown that they are tolerant and not a single southerner dies from any religious or politically motivated crisis. |
For someone who published a book titled "Nigeria: Dancing on the brink" in November of 2010, I would take anything he says with a pinch of salt. How else will you justify your book and improve sales if not to perpetuate the "Dancing on the brink" theory.

maimalari:Don't be silly, just because your street voted for Buhari does not mean everyone in Nigeria did |
Looking at the crop of politicians who have been canvassing for our votes, you can hardly find anyone of them (who is not currently holding any position) that is doing any social work, charity, poverty alleviation schemes or some sort of commitment to improving the lives of the people living around them. We all know how much it costs to run a presidential or governorship or even parliamentary elections but yet you do not see what this people have done in their capacity as private citizens to help people in their communities, states or regions. We only hear of one businessman or government official or ex-military types who have accumulated so much wealth yet not even a single significant project they have undertaken in their private capacities to help show that they care for other people apart from their families, yet they claim to be sympathetic to the plight of the suffering masses. The only thing we hear is "when I was the head of state I stamped out corruption" or "when I was the C.E.O of XYZ I implemented this" when that is what is expected in the first place of those positions, it is only failures/criminals that will do otherwise. What we should be hearing also is what have you done since you left office or outside your official position to help people who you claim you are fighting to lead, that will show us how you will use the country's resources to help us further. |
Becomricho: Musiwa,:You also made a mistake, you posted the topic using your wrong self. |
So we are 65th and yet the western media carries on like we are in the top 3 the hatred of Nigeria by the western world is disgusting. |
Kenyy:It is only in Nigeria that a state with desert everywhere will produce 108% turnout of underage voters. |
dem_people:Really? that's crazy! |
I find it hard to believe Buhari thinks he can win GEJ in the SS or SE. I went to primary and secondary school in Jos, and I can say with all assurance that People from Plateau state and the middle belt in general who are mainly Christians identify more with the south than with the north. They see the Hausa/Fulani as oppressors, with all the recent religious crisis that has rocked Jos, which right thinking middle belter will vote for a Hausa/Fulani candidate. |
Good news for those with unexpired Nigerian MRP Passport, the deadline has been extended indefinitely from April 30th, 2011 till further notice due to unforeseen circumstances according to the statement on the Nigerian embassy Atlanta website. I was actually planning on going to the Nigerian embassy in Atlanta to renew mine and decided to check on their website and saw this great news, luckily my MRP passport is valid till 2014 so hopefully I still got a long time to procrastinate. ![]() Source: http://nigeria-consulate-atl.org/site/?p=668 |
tosinaded@:Who makes offering in the church? is it not the congregation? So because he did not make them poor he cannot help bring them out of poverty? Is that what your Bible teaches you? if you claim God blessed him with the money and not the congregation he ripped off their hard earned money then why not use the God given money to help the poor. Even Jesus Christ himself used fish and bread to feed multitude of hungry people, he was not only preaching and transporting materials. You sound as if it is ridiculous to use the Jet for humanitarian service, that shows how brainwashed people can be. A jet bought from people's money used by one man and his cronies and some people actually see nothing wrong in that! |
I understand if Oyedepo and his family are making posts on forums supporting their extravagant lifestyle on peoples money, but I am always surprised when members of his church or followers actually hear stories like this and say he is a Man of God, God has blessed him, God has done this or God has done that, for Christ's sake this dude has all this money because people like you donate money in his church, he does not have any other source of income apart from donations and offerings coming from members of the church, God did not bless him with that he blessed himself with your money! What he is doing is no different from Bernie Madoff who started a Ponzi scheme to enrich himself and his family to the tune of over $50 billion dollars the only difference is that these so called Men of God are using Christianity to legitimize their ill-gotten wealth. Let me ask you supporters of crime one question, if a member of your church has an emergency medical problem or some other disease that can only be treated abroad, will he use that Jet to transport that person abroad for treatment? (I am sure the answer is no). I am bringing this scenario because if you claim he is using the jet to spread the word of God, it could as well be used as a humanitarian aid to help people in need, because Jesus clearly travelled far and wide healing the blind, the lepers and disabled people and not only preaching or transporting preaching materials. |
Ivory Coast strongman says he's not stepping down ABIDJAN, Ivory Coast – Ivory Coast's strongman leader Laurent Gbagbo holed up in a bunker inside the presidential residence Tuesday, defiantly maintaining he won the election four months ago even as troops backing the internationally recognized winner encircled the home. Gbagbo's comments by telephone to France's LCI television came as French officials and a diplomat said he was negotiating his departure terms after French and U.N. forces launched a military offensive Monday. Democratically elected leader Alassane Ouattara has urged his supporters to take Gbagbo alive. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20110405/ap_on_re_af/af_ivory_coast |

This is quite interesting I must say. Takes me back to my Uniben days, so many adventures in my time there. It's good you are recording them as they are happening. Nice ![]() |
The Chinese or Indians did not grow technologically by someone re-inventing western technology in their backyards. They did it by getting their best brains to copy what the west had and providing them with resources and facilities to achieve this. We have to realize that celebrating individuals that re-invent a cruder form of already existing western technology is going to get us no where, the government, big businesses, multi-millionaires and billionaires have to take interest and invest in a technology by getting smart people to work on specific projects. If the government or some rich individuals sponsor 20 first class graduates in engineering or physics for example to china or the U.S to understudy and learn how to make rockets, sets up a facility in Nigeria and arrange for all materials needed to be supplied, we will be manufacturing rockets left, right and center. The problem is not that we cannot make the rockets if we want to, the problem is we do not want to. 500 years ago if you could divide 25/6 by long division, you must be a great scholar or mathematician, but now most people with basic education can do that, same analogy is applicable to rockets today, 30 years ago it was a big deal, but now almost every country that wants to can make rockets from Pakistan to Iran. A well educated Nigerian can easily go to any country that makes rocket and learn it and produce the latest rockets not someone making ancient forms of rockets and we are celebrating like we are lesser forms of humans. |
Its ironic that she has British citizenship herself and found a better life for herself in Nigeria. |

Kilode?!:Thank you very much for those wise quotes. We take too much rubbish from our leaders all in the name of elder, that is why it is difficult to curb all the atrocities committed on the Nigerian state by so called elders and elder statesmen |
Wow! amazing! |
As long as one of your parents is Nigerian and you already have the Nigerian Passport then automatically you're a Nigerian citizen, you don't need any formal application or paperwork filled out. To participate in the NYSC, all you need is to pick the batch you want to serve (Batch 'A' or Batch 'B'), get all the required documents as listed on the website http://www.nysc.gov.ng/forignnysc2011.php and appear at the NYSC office in Abuja and you are good to go. chocobunny:"All foreign trained prospective Corps Members who intend to participate in the 2011 Batch A Orientation course must complete registration on or before 25th February 2011. NO REGISTRATION SHALL TAKE PLACE AFTER 25TH FEBRUARY 2011." This is for those who intend to enroll for Batch A, since you already missed the deadline for Batch A, wait for Batch B which should be sometime later in the year |
