TravelVicar Jailed For Wedding Immigration Scam by oncolor(op): 10:23pm On Apr 03, 2012
http://uk.news.yahoo.com/vicar-jailed-wedding-immigration-scam-140801560.html

A vicar has been jailed for four-and-a-half years for immigration fraud after conducting at least 200 bogus wedding ceremonies for illegal immigrants.
The Reverend Brian Shipsides, 56, carried out the "meticulously planned and carefully orchestrated" fake ceremonies at the All Saints Church in east London.
The judge said: "Your important role in this conspiracy was a disgraceful abuse of your calling as an ordained minister of the church.
"This was a conspiracy to breach the United Kingdom's immigration laws by arranging sham marriages.
"These marriages took place in your church. Your church, where you had been the priest in charge for many years.
"There really is no mitigation in respect of this type of offending which undermines UK immigration law, threatens the benefit system and exploits the lives of many vulnerable and desperate people."
The bogus ceremonies were between non-Europeans, mostly from Nigeria, who were married off to Europeans to obtain immigration rights.

TravelRe: Is Old Mrp Passport Still A Valid Identification by oncolor: 4:13am On Nov 06, 2011
princedant:
the MRP is no longer valid for any embassy visa application or travel outside Nigeria since January 1st this year 2011, however, if u still have one thats yet to expire, it can still be used as a form of ID.
That is not true. I renewed my U.S visa on my old MRP Passport at the U.S embassy in Lagos in August 2011 while my E-Passport was still being processed. When I finally got the E-Passport it was blank with no visa, I use the old MRP passport with my visa for getting into the U.S while the E-Passport is just to get out of Nigeria.

While i acknowledge the fact that the Island could be skyrocketing expensive, I really don't believe the story (in the article) about the "friend" chatting up a cute girl from the Island and eventually abandoning the pursuit because the girl happened to be from the expensive neighbourhood because, i know that most guys would be glad to have such pretty (and rich girls) for themselves: so, i don't accept that a person would run away from a girl because she's rich. Period
Same here. That must be an imaginary friend. How can you hit a jackpot and you say you don't want to claim the prize.
Foreign AffairsRe: Libyan Rebels Wary Of Sub-saharan Africans by oncolor: 3:02am On Sep 01, 2011
When countries where evacuating their citizens, Nigeria also evacuated those willing to leave, others chose to stay probably because they felt things where going to get better and they can head on to Europe or find work in Libya. This is a civil war, the regime in control has been toppled, I don;t see how Nigeria as a country or the embassy can be of help at this time, when no one is really in charge of Tripoli, heck even the ambassador is probably not safe if he steps out of his home. The rebels are just running around paranoid targeting any black they see.

claremont:
All those people saying there are African stores everywhere; we all know that the cost of African foodstuffs in these African stores is prohibitive as compared to the cost of these same items in Nigeria. If it were possible to bring a live goat from Nigeria, Nigerians would surely have done it. How an African shop would charge £10 for a tiny tuber of yam the size of my palm is beyond me! shocked shocked
I'm surprised anyone can talk about buying foodstuff from African Stores when someone is coming from Nigeria with all the opportunity in the world to load up on cheap and better quality foodstuff. The African stores sell egusi  and crayfish in such little sachets and so expensive you wonder how they expect you to make a decent soup without emptying your account monthly.
TravelRe: Traveling With Nigeria Food Stuffs by oncolor: 5:07pm On Aug 29, 2011
I don't know about Canada, but the U.S does not allow Egusi that is not blended. You have to make sure all Egusi you are coming with are blended properly, dried and well wrapped.

bobotimi:
Hi All,

What happens to your old MRP passport when you are issued the new epassport?

Are you required to turn the old one in? I'm asking because my current passport contains a US B2 visa valid for a couple of years.

Thanks
You are not required to turn it in, you simply hold the two passports whenever you are traveling. Show the old passport with the US visa when going to the U.S and also the new passport for them to stamp it at point of entry.

@jerryben, it is expensive to fly to africa cos of the cost of jet A1 fuel which is always changing and fluctuating, then the tax charged varies according to country, so your ticket might be cheap but when you add up the cost of fuelling and taxes, YT, YR and others the cost of tickets will rise init?
I don't think that is the reason, it's more of a price and demand thing. The distance between the U.S and Australia is far greater than U.S and Nigeria but you still see cheaper direct flights to Australia compared to Nigeria.

I was quite impressed when I visited Lagos two weeks ago after about four years out of Nigeria, what blew me was the cleanliness of the streets and green everywhere. We need people like Fashola all over Nigeria, If one man can transform chaotic Lagos, then no other governor should have any excuse for non-performance.
BusinessRe: What Happened To The Nigerian Naira 'coin'? by oncolor: 5:50pm On Aug 19, 2011
It was silly to introduce coins in the first place when there was hardly anything you could by or do with 50 kobo or one naira coin. Unlike the western world where you need 25 cents coins for vending machines, washing machines and stuff like that you definitely need coins but in Nigeria it is a different story.

I need you alls take on my decision. I am a "nice" American sweetheart who has traveled outside of this country, but never to Africa. Put me where you are. Where you live. Put me in your culture. I would love responses from both men and women. Help me out."

Continental has merged with United so they are both the same thing now.
