Ileke-IdI:That does not mean you should laugh at an innocent woman brutally murdered in front of her apartment because she is Igbo, leave those sentiments out of threads involving the death of fellow Nigerians like you. That is really appalling behavior. |
Mswati III of Swaziland should not be on that list. Swaziland is a monarchy. |
The U.S has historically being a violent nation, from the days of the wild wild west to present day gang syndrome, its amazing the security forces are able to maintain sanity in the country. |

How feasible is this in Nigeria with no social security number or any way to identify each and every Nigerian, what stops one person from collecting unemployment a thousand times in a month ![]()

Kobojunkie:1. If you say Nigeria has been on the list of emerging economies, you have to state when we started getting on that list. Nigeria had a civil war that ended in 1970, we have been having several dictatorships till 1999, it is only reasonable to use that as a reference point. After about 30 to 50 years from 1999 and we are still in this situation that is when you have a point. 2. I don't know why you're asking that kind of question? are you saying the percentage of graduates from Nigerian Universities and tertiary institutions is less than what we had decades ago? If you are talking about quality of education that is a different thing, but school is school, we have more educated people compared to 10, 20, 30 or 40 years ago. 3. Ibori is on the run, Alams was impeached and several other governors have had one charge or the other against them. During the tenure of Shagari only one governor was known to have been impeached. We have not yet arrived, it is a gradual process, it is only human nature to want things to happen in their life time. We might not get to see the promised land but our children surely will. |
Kobojunkie:I don't know what list you are talking about, we might have been on different lists because of our oil resources which was giving us recognition back then but this is a different analysis, not just oil. Moreover one thing that is different is that the population is becoming more educated and more aware compared to what was decades back, even though there is still rampant corruption, it is not going unchallenged, there have been protests by the youth for basic necessities like electricity which has never happened in the past, coups and counter coups are a thing of the past (the fact that Jonathan could be the president after the whole Yar'Adua fiasco shows some level of political maturity). And even if we have been on the list a decade ago it doesn't mean the analysis is wrong, it doesn't take a decade to achieve this, it takes decades. Just like we have been getting different dates at which China is supposed to overtake the U.S as the world economic superpower, doesn't mean it would not happen one day. |
Buiter has constructed a "3G index" to measure economic progress; 3G stands for "Global Growth Generators" and is a weighted average of six growth drivers that the Citigroup economists consider important: A measure of domestic saving/ investment A measure of demographic prospects A measure of health A measure of education A measure of the quality of institutions and policies A measure of trade openness Using that index the nations to watch over the coming years are Bangladesh, China, Egypt, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Mongolia, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Vietnam. "They are our 3G countries," Buiter said. SOURCE: http://www.cnbc.com/id/41775174 |
It's definitely fiction, it would have been better if they made it into a movie. |
justwise:Thanks a lot Justwise, just wanted to be sure cos I have been getting conflicting info. |
Does the deadline for the E-passport imply that those who do not obtain the passport before April 30th 2011 can not do so afterwards? or does it just mean that you cannot travel with the old passport after April 30th? can someone please clarify this, because I don't intend travelling before december this year so I plan on getting the new E-Passport sometime in June or July. Can I get it then after the deadline? |
Just Voted. hope she wins |
amdman:The link below shows the visa bulletin for the current month, it tells you how long you have to wait. One thing you have to know is that once you apply for permanent residency through your wife's dad, you would not be granted a non-immigrant visa like visiting or student visa, so you have to wait in Nigeria or some other country for about 10 years when you permanent resident card would have been processed before you can go to the U.S. http://travel.state.gov/visa/bulletin/bulletin_1360.html |
It's going to take about 10 years to get an immigrant visa to the U.S if you apply now. The current date on the Department of State Visa Bulletin shows they are processing applications for those that applied before January 01, 2001 for married sons and daughters of U.S citizens (Family 3rd Category). |
9ice was quite popular on facebook with over 300,000 fans, I was browsing through facebook and decided to check up on his page but could not trace it, does any one know why he would remove his fan page? |
Nigeria’s capital Abuja was rocked about two hours ago by a deadly explosion, Saharareporters has just learned. The explosion happened at the crowded “Mammy” market attached to the Abacha Barracks in the Asokoro area of Abuja. Several eyewitnesses said the blast has claimed close to 100 lives and wounded scores more. The yet-to-be-identified device exploded near a fish-frying shop in the bustling market. Saharareporters learned that many of the casualties were soldiers and their family members doing their last minute shopping for the New Year. http://www.saharareporters.com/news-page/breaking-news-another-deadly-explosion-rocks-abuja |
Have you not read about teenagers committing suicide because of bully's, paedophiles and all sorts of creepy people sending them messages through social media and phones? infact parents that don't monitor their kids activities are irresponsible. There are many things teenagers see as just fun that an adult will recognize as sign of trouble, be happy you have such a caring Dad. Remember the saying "Fools rush where Angels fear to thread". |

As I have always suspected, the BOPD (Barrels of oil per day) that SHELL and other oil companies report is highly fictitious, this just goes to confirm why they do anything to remain in Nigeria even with all the militant activity in the Niger-Delta. If they have moles all over the ministries, it means they just cook up some numbers to give to the government as oil produced per day without any independent verification, afterall the NNPC officials coming to audit (that is if they even do any) are SHELL moles. |
Friday, 19 September 2008, 16:13 S E C R E T SECTION 01 OF 02 LAGOS 000368 NOFORN SIPDIS DOE FOR GPERSON, CHAYLOCK EO 12958 DECL: 09/18/2018 TAGS EPET, ENRG, PGOV, RS">RS, NI SUBJECT: NIGERIA: SHELL CLAIMS PRODUCTION UNAFFECTED BY RECENT ATTACKS; COMMENTS ON GROWING VIOLENCE IN THE DELTA REF: A. LAGOS 365 B. LAGOS 366 Classified By: Consul General Donna M. Blair for reasons 1.4 (B) and (D ) 1. (S/NF) Summary: Shell's Vice President for Africa, Ann Pickard (strictly protect), said a September 13 attack on a Shell natural gas node in Rivers State may impact the supply of gas to Nigerian Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) plant, but she downplayed the impact of recent attacks on Shell's current oil production. She claimed XXXXXXXXXXXX were behind the militant unrest in Rivers State and that XXXXXXXXXXXX Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi's lack of political connections forced him to fight rather than "co-opt" the militants as the Delta and Bayelsa State governors have done. Pickard asked what the USG knew about GAZPROM interest in Nigeria; and if we had any information on shipments of one to three surface to air missiles to militant groups in the Niger Delta. She alleged that a conversation with a Nigerian government official had been secretly recorded by the Russians. Post believes that the spate of recent attacks may have impacted Shell's oil production more than Pickard is letting on. End Summary. Shell Says Attacks Caused Little Impact to Production Pickard asked for USG information on GAZPROM's interest in Nigeria. She had heard from contacts in the British government that the GON has promised GAZPROM access to 17 trillion cubic feet of natural gas. Pickard said that that amount of gas was only available if the GON were to take concessions currently assigned to other oil companies and give them to GAZPROM. She assumed Shell would be the GON's prime target. She discussed recent press reports of a memorandum of understanding between GAZPROM and the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation and agreed it was likely more flash than substance. In an interesting aside, Pickard told Econoffs that she had recently held a meeting with an unnamed Nigerian minister in the minister's office. Shortly thereafter she said she received a verbatim transcript of the meeting "from Russia." (Comment: Pickard was a little coy on this subject. She did not name the minister and it wasn't clear who gave her the transcript. The implication was that the Russian government was actively collecting on Shell in Nigeria as well as one of Nigeria's ministries. Pickard routinely meets with the oil, gas, and defense ministers as well as top military leaders and senior advisors to the President. End Comment.) Shell Concerned About MANPADS in Niger Delta More : http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/us-embassy-cables-documents/170674 |
The oil giant Shell claimed it has inserted its staff into all key ministries of the Nigerian government, giving it access to politicians' every move in the oil-rich Niger Delta, according to a leaked US diplomatic cable. The company's top executive in Nigeria told US diplomats that Shell had seconded employees to every relevant department and so knew "everything that was being done in those ministries". She boasted that the Nigerian government had "forgotten" about the extent of Shell's infiltration and were unaware of how much the company knew about its deliberations. The cache of secret dispatches from Washington's embassies in Africa also revealed that the Anglo-Dutch oil firm swapped intelligence with the US, in one case providing US diplomats with the names of Nigerian politicians it suspected of supporting militant activity and requesting information from the US on whether the militants had acquired anti-aircraft missiles. Source: http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/2010/dec/08/wikileaks-cables-shell-nigeria-spying This just goes to show the extent to which the problems in Africa are caused by the West. |
Katsumoto:Your option 1 only happens when government gives out free money to all its citizens or majority of its citizens without any corresponding productivity. If govt instead prints this money and uses it to pay for developmental projects then the companies that provide these services go out and hire more workers, they have reduced unemployment, which in turn will give the workers in these companies more purchasing power allowing them to buy more goods which in turn will stimulate those companies producing the goods they are buying to produce more and expand their factories etc. I think it is actually a good thing because you are not just printing money and giving to citizens but developing basic services which would have a multiplier effect on the economy. Like 3kay945 pointed out, what happens when the UN or WORLD BANK or some other foreign donors doll out billions in aid for one project or the other? |
I still don't understand how printing money to construct roads, provide electricity and some basic services will cause inflation. I understand you just can't print money and give to all citizens but surely you cannot go wrong with printing money to pay construction companies to construct roads, bridges and electric companies to provide electricity and water companies to provide water. There are ways to print money that will result in a positive development for the local, state and federal economy. I believe the western world has done this before and still doing it now. |
That article looks really suspicious. Out of all the news media in the US, it is the one that has some sort of relationship with GUSAU that magically uncovered $13,000 per delegate bribe story. Ridiculous! |
I used to have serious ear pain whenever the plane is making its descent until I found a simple remedy that eliminated all the pain. All you need to do is hold your nose with your hand blocking the nostrils and blow air just as you would when blowing your nose, this would force air through your ears freeing up the air passages. Make sure you do this before the plane starts its descent or anytime during the flight you feel the pain. |
hmnn, interesting. you must really be adventurous to venture into South America considering the language barrier. Most people's travels are either to Europe, North America, Australia, It's refreshing to see someone going South. |
